ZASHIKI-WARASHI - Floor Child
floor child is a collection of field recordings, home assemblies and live documentations organized and mutated by New York based composer and improviser Carter Thornton. Spanning five years and two CDs, this initial release from the fictional collective of Zashiki-Warashi is sewn together with appearances by members of NNCK, Izititiz, Enos Slaughter, Floriculture and TEST. The music shrieks, drones, floats, superimposes unlikely realities and outlines a subconscious narrative inspired by travels ranging from a South Carolina swamp to a Moroccan graveyard. A mix of shortwave transmissions, ukuleles, bowed and plucked strings, distant drums and voices, nearby birds and guitars, chanting crowds and not quite discernable sounds recorded in places as diverse as a Texas parking lot, Harlems Hinthouse, Roulette Intermedium and a Virginia old folks home. Presented in hand painted sleeves. Limited to a pressing of 502. - Conduit Creations.
