LOS KNOCK KNOCKS - Procrastination
“Released by Hueso Records in a limited edition of 250 copies.
Both as a visual artist with a past at the academy (his first solo exhibition was inaugurated at the Amigos del Arte gallery in 1995), as well as as a cosmic rocker -garage minimalist self-taught improvisation - see his projects La Banda's (1993) and Jesus Freaks (2004), Diego Hernández (Santiago, 1972), active in both fields publicly and semi-privately since 1992, is one of the iconoclastically multifunctional characters of the panorama relaxedly spread around “collectives of free improvisation rock, electronic and psychedelic” such as A Full Cosmic Sound, Kb Cabala, Watchout!, or more specifically The Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane or False Sir Nicholas, via independent (self) publishing projects such as ETCS Records, BYM, Yellow Moon and the Mutant Production Company, on the more adventurous substrates of what has been summarily termed as the new psychedelia Chilean, which can be seen in this case as the connection between local historical archive reference points from the sixties onwards, such as Los Jaivas, El Polen, or the most bizarre Blops, the musical baggage, between noise rockist classic destroyerConceptual kraut-progressive and a school of autonomous organization in pursuit of practical ends (field recordings in the rehearsal room or workshop, no-fi analog immediacy , recitals / exhibitions made among friends, small or downright minimal editions of an aesthetic and work ethic associated with both art brut and post-capitalist popular mass culture, closely linked to the cassette as a rescued format for home self-production. Thus, from childhood, DH was devouring music, cartoons and books that fell to him between hands, operating handheld tape recorders to record noises and melodies for himself and scratching his school notebooks.
Like Los Knock Knocks, Diego (guitar plus a limited variety of keyboards and effects), has released a self-titled EP , the full-length cassette Digital Garage Days and a seven-inch single taken from that album for the songs A Hit Is A Hit and Crack , published in a run of fifteen copies edited by BYM, which brings us to Procastinar (from the Latin procrastinare: pro , ahead, and crastinus, referring to the future, “the action or habit of delaying activities or situations that must be addressed, replacing them with other more irrelevant or pleasant situations ”), his first foray into full-length vinyl format, and which for "things in life" was a long time waiting for its release, is approachable as a journey from synthesized exotic / lounge resonances to sharply more panoramic-expansive sustainably rhythmic instrumental passages, almost cinematic, with Carlos Santana one moment and Lou Reed the other, in astral travel in a beach rave with T-1000 robots by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in a dark wave plan, in what we could consider a firm step into unknown territory far from convention and with their own well-established personal coordinates." - Hueso Records
