Limited edition of 500 copies. "I began working with Steve Gnitka in late 1975, after an introduction arranged by Scott Newell, with whom I had already been collaborating for a few years. (Primarily playing guitar, Scott was a member of the Ensemble at the time, and, as he was leaving town, recommended Steve as his -¢??replacement-¢?¬ù.) Shih Shih Wu Ai 12/13 marks Steves and my 15th collaborative LP and/or CD, while Scotts work with me has previously been documented on SURGES/SUSPENSIONS, COMME TOUJOURS (Shih Shih Wu Ai 7-9) and KOI/KLOPS (Emanem 4060). I first met Charles Gillett in the late nineties, but it wasnt until a few years later (2002) that we really started getting to know one another and, after being exposed to his distinctive approach to the guitar, began collaborating. Charles work with me has previously been documented on SENILIT-É? (Emanem 4132) and CONTIGUOUS CHUNKS (Shih Shih Wu Ai 11).Stefan Kac and I are both on the faculty at the West Bank School of Music (me for decades; him since 2005). I first heard him play at a benefit for the School that year where he tore through an a cappella realization of Thelonious Monks -¢??Bye-Ya-¢?¬ù. (This event provided him the first exposure to my playing as well; on that evening a short piano solo.) Within a short time we began working together in a variety of contexts.
