DOYLE , ARTHUR - Egghead

arthur doyle is one of the great instinctual inventors of the american post-fire improv scene. even though he seems to have blown his lungs right off the planet, he still manages to create vastly weird tableaux of spirit, adventure and sound. his newest release is egghead, its a solo and combines his chant-vocal madness with roughshod flute passages that are as primitive as any one-string blues ever recorded by alan lomax. this is from a live tape, but it doesnt sound like it was done on the last tour with the electro-acoustic ensemble, so its origins are a bit mysterious. suffice to say that it plunges deep into the same vein as doyles recent work and should appeal to anyone who continues to believe in ecstatic propulsion. - Byron Coley.
