Wheres Aylers ghosts? I always thought his was the voice of the new testament. Not the guilt and fear and weight that I heard in Interstellar Space, but exhilarating, euphoric. But what was he feeling? Was the love too strong to stand? Staring at the sun. Burning his retina. What did he think hed find at the bottom of the river? A door to another world or just a salvation from this one?
Playing with Peter Jacquemyn in a tiny jazz bar in southern Netherlands. Photos of Dexter Gordon and obscure Dutch jazz dudes on the wall. Barely fit on the stage. Jaspers amp could almost fit on his belt. Somehow, it worked. The audience embraced the emotion, if not the language. Beer helps, it must be said.. Bits of approximated Ayler pieces pop up.
12 Points: a festival presenting young European jazz talent. Amazed to be included, young jazz talent..?! In my daily life I often have the feeling someone will come up to me and say Im very sorry, you are not supposed to be here. Can you please come with me?" But it gives one a sense of urgency. Feeling out of place and insecure. At least you remember why you do it. Because you have no other choice. Because you have to. Why? Who the fuck knows.." -- John Dikeman
