Whats most intriguing about Trimble may be that for a while he assembled an all-little boy backing band, and while they were not incompetent musicians, their imperfection adds to the vulnerability of Trimbles work (think they are backing him on the A-side here, which is the weirdly wonderful title track). "Its a very rare experience to be sucked into such an honest and fragile universe as Bobb Trimble`s. A space of its own, a musical experience on the other side of what people usually define as proper behavior. Psychedelic folk, real-people music, religious visions. Its hard to label Bobbs music. Life Beyond the Doghouse consists of previously unreleased studio recordings from 1983 and 1986. On side 1 Bobb is backed by his old backingband Violent Reactions from the LP Iron Curtain Innocence from 1980. Six years havent made the music more mainstream. Its so dark and its so lonely. The songs are desperate and have a strange dreamy atmosphere. Bobb is floating like an untouchable ghostlike entity through the darkness. And the voice... scary! Crippled Dog Band on side two is recordings from 1983. Fuzzguitar with adlib phaser. Uncontrolled microphone to all bandmembers. Punkrock attitude from first on. | "The year was 1983, and Bobb Trimble had two then-unrecognized masterpieces to his credit and a lot of confusion and indifference from his fellow travelers in the Worcester, MA "Wormtown" scene. Never one to worry much about appearances, Bobb accepted an invitation to join a group of teenage boys who called themselves The Crippled Dog Band, named after Boopsie, a three-legged canine local. Bobb donned the title of Chief Crippled Dog and led the Band on enthusiastically-received gigs throughout the region. Unbeknownst to almost anyone, they completed a raucous album full of addictive hooks, feedback, teen chatter and video game noises. But soon the Band splintered and Bobb decided to forget about the whole thing, disposing of the entire 500-count LP pressing in an office park dumpster. All of which would be nothing more than a typically weird footnote to the Bobb Trimble legend, except for the fact that The Crippled Dog Band is very different from, but every bit as remarkable and brilliant as Iron Curtain Innocence and Harvest Of Dreams.
