Artist: SMEGMA Title: The Smell Remains The Same Format: LP Label: Anarchymoon Country: USA Price: $13.00 |
| "Second in a slow series of 7" reissues, The Smell Remains The Same presents 10 tracks originally released in 1990-95 on 7" by various labels, including the impossible to find ? comp on Cavity Search records. (Literally, the title is ?). The tracks display Smegmas pioneering style of audiophile-lo-brow folk-noise-rock, in their early-middle age when they were surviving through the birth of grunge, alternative, and indie rock." - Anarchymoon. |

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Morass Format: LP Label: Bimbo Tower Country: France Price: $24.00 |
| "Vinyl upgrade for the Live side of Smegmas legendary 1987 Morass cassette. Featuring the line-up of Amazon Bambi, Big Dirty, Dr. Id, Jackie, Ju Suk, Paul and V.D., this one perfectly captures the joyous noise of their bandstand actions. Free jazz firepower is to the fore, with Aylerised horns and Borbetomagus-scale form destruction battling against toy orchestras, power-punking loops, syrupy sludge-jams, garage band instrumentals and usurped avant garde modes. One of Smegmas wildest sides and some of the most fucked-up art-aggro to escape the gravity of the LAFMS." volcanic tongue. (co-released with TANZ PROCESZ) |

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Rumblings Format: CD Label: Hanson Country: USA Price: $10.00 |
|
"Considered by many the kings and queens of American free noise, Smegma have been confusing minds since 1973 when they helped form the Los Angeles Free Music Society. Theyve recorded with everyone from Wildman Fisher to Merzbow and more recently, with noise goons Wolf Eyes. This disc is their first full length in nearly 10 years and also the first to feature vocalist / punk beatnik / Blue Oyster Cult lyricist Richard Meltzer. Rumblings is a sound collage of turntable manipulations, electronics, horns, bells, junk, toys, marijuana, and surf rock band. Smegma have been around forever and show no signs of slowing down. They just hopped off a killer west-coast tour with Wolf Eyes, Rubber O Cement and Comets On Fire where they ripped the skulls off of everyone." - Hanson. Budget price.

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Pigs for Lepers Format: CD Label: Harbinger Sound Country: UK Price: $17.00 |
|
"CD reissue of great 1982 LP includes extra material. Limited to 500 copies. "Pigs For Lepers was Smegmas second longplayer, originally the seventh release on their own Pigface Records imprint back in 1982. This CD is a limited reissue and is U.K. label Harbinger Sounds first shot in an attempt to coherently catalogue Smegmas wayward non-career. The cover features the original picture that was thought in bad taste and upset local printers, as part of an 8 page colour booklet that also includes artwork and photographs from the Smegma archives. An extra track too - Mutant Baby - recorded live in 1979 and featured on an obscure Trap Records compilation from years back. The actual Pigs... recordings span 1962 right up to 1982. This is an excellent introduction to the world of Smegma - a band whose influence has slowly seeped everywhere over the past few decades - ask Nurse With Wound, Wolf Eyes, Merzbow or any of the New Weird America crowd whom would give anything to be as weird as Smegma! To parrot writer Richard Meltzer, youll never hear sound the same way again." -Harbinger Sound

Artist: SMEGMA Title: 33 1/3 Format: LP Label: Important Country: USA Price: $14.50 |
|
This vinyl edition of 33 1/3 is limited to 1000 copies on black, red, red/black split and red & black splatter vinyl. Includes a bonus track only available on the vinyl version. "33 1/3 is Smegmas tribute to their 20th century avant-garde and out-jazz influences. The title is one part reference to the happy revival of passionate vinyl listening in the 21st century and one part celebration of their long hard slog of 33 1/3 years of being one of the most free thinking and original American underground groups. Their focus, ideas and determination has brought them through more than three decades and to this day they remain unparalleled, original and highly influential. 33 1/3 is enhanced with live videos of Happy Holidays live at End Times Festival (with Spencer Yeh and Twig Harper) as well as Grubsteak live at the Three Million Tongues festival in Chicago. Smegma. Seriously. Theyve been at it for so long now that you cant really even say they sound like anyone else. You can only say that others sound like them. Theyre all here on 33 1/3: Oblivia, Ju Suk Reet Meate, Burned Mind, Conroy, Dr. Id. The core group drumming up their influences and pulling off another burning album of magnificent proportions. While Smegma has never really fit in anywhere their influence on the modern avant garde and improvised noise scene is absolutely undeniable. However, its essential to remember that Smegma has never been noise for noises sake. While theyve had two feet firmly planted in avant-garde & free jazz, one must not forget their rock roots as well. For this reason alone theyre bound to not fit in anywhere. Influences aside, no matter how much everyone else sounds like Smegma, you can bet that Smegma is always going to sound like nobody else. Nobody else channels so much energy, effort, influence or sound into their work. They may just be the greatest American band. Ever." - Important. CD also available.

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Mirage Format: LP Label: Important Country: USA Price: $19.00 |
| "With Mirage on Important Records, Smegma again does the impossible. 38 years after reinventing the musical wheel, they have recorded a stunning masterpiece. With four of the original members working together again for the first time in many years, together with many new collaborators, they have kept alive their unique brand of old school primitive, avant/garage music. Running the gamut from the music concrete inspired subtlety, the bombastic mood of the title track, world of my owns frenzied noise/funk jams, that morph past rockn [Eno/Roxy Music era] garage band, before finally slipping into a primitive meditation involving silly voices, toys, record players and such. On the other hand F-85 Turbo Rocket blasts strait to psycho rockabilly heaven and is over before it all sinks in. Also worth mentioning, with its timeless creepy beauty, the front cover drawing/collage sets the stage for this strange journey. Several of the tracks were recorded live at a Smegma House Party in Portland September 2009. LP version includes an exclusive "spontaneous jam." - Mirage. |

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Glamour Girl 1941+ Pigface Chant Format: CD Label: Japan Overseas Country: Japan Price: $16.00 |
|
"A warehouse find of this 1997 CD reissue of vintage gorked-out wahoo, including four bonus tracks. Originally released by Los Angeles Free Music Society in the late 70s, the Glamour Girl 1941 LP and Pigface Chant 7-inch are a bizarre combo of the tape-loops-and-nonsense later perfected by Negativland, the meandering skronk of Jandek or Gate, and the nightmarish hippie meltdowns of the No-Neck Blues Band and their offshoots. Past collaborations include Wild Man Fischer and Merzbow; currently seen with Blue Oyster Cult lyricist and rock critic Richard Meltzer and Stooges sax-man Steve Mackay."

"Another Japanese CD from 1997 by this oblique improv collective. In some ways, just as traditional as a bunch of Sun Ra acolytes, in others more bent than actual acid casualties, Tiromancy splashes down swaddled in rainbow dots, early Playboy chic, laughing gas electronics, conflicting vapors, surround-seep ooze-adelia, and highly agile mental capabilities." - Japan Overseas.

Artist: SMEGMA Title: 30 Years of Service Format: CD Label: Radon Country: USA Price: $14.50 |
| "In July 2003, SMEGMA celebrated their 30th anniversary as a musical collective with a series of concerts featuring STOOGES saxman STEVE MACKAY. These landmark noise spectacles were highly praised, most notably the exceptional performance at The Derby in Hollywood. At the end of the year, the set was recreated in Smegmas legendary Portland, Oregon, studio and painstakingly mixed and manipulated over the course of several months. From their mid-70s work in the LOS ANGELES FREE MUSIC SOCIETY up through last years critically exalted collaboration album with Wolf Eyes, Smegmas influential free honkngibber is like no other." - Radon. |

Artist: SMEGMA Title: Live 1991-93 Format: CD Label: Resipiscent Country: USA Price: $12.00 |
| "Cassettes are hunky-dorky but this release, originally on Smegmas Pigface label, was destined to see the light of lasers. A mad trip that starts out comfy on the couch with your face planted in the boobtube til vacuum nipples suck you headlong into the horny dark. Indecipherable electronics, murderous guitar, scrapey bells, bottomless laughter and language in a surround of percussion, an absolute media nightmare from the creators of psychysterics. No two packages alike, built entirely from recovered urban detritus. Extremely limited copies." |

"The mythical LAFMS collective Smegma really needs no introduction, where would we all be without them? How many bands were so ahead of their time (1973!), and have been for so long, like Smegma have? Well, here they are with a brand new LP of their famous mix of free jazz, industrial noise, improvisation, straight-up weird music so typical of these masters / US freaks. On the opening track, they are riding on the amazing drums of historical member Dennis Duck (of Dream Syndicate) to pay homage to their beloved Link Wray with some devilish surf music! Then get ready for some crazy reeds, Aylerian invocations, electro-acoustic meditations, (shrink) chamber music and moments of pure avantgarde, juxtapositions that only they can get away with: a riot in a farm, strange strings riding the waves, guitar riffs and slides with the seagulls, a bat party in a cave, followed by a hot bath of analog synth bubbles… but simply put, Smegma sounds like nobody else! Cover artwork collage by Ace Farren Ford. Also comes with an insert. Edition of 300 copies." - Ultramarine.
