Title: The Tetchy Teenage Tapes of Felix Kubin 1981-85
Format: LP
Label: A-Musik
Country: Germany
Price: $15.50
Vinyl version w/ different tracks than the CD. Four color cover and innersleeve plus lyric sheet. "The idea for the release came about as I was making a minidisk recording of German electronic music, for my friends of SKIPP label and as a gag mixed in some of earlier pieces on tape. My answer to the question, of what it be, knocked them off their feet: And the high voice & thats YOU? Once they asked me if I had any other material, I sent them a load of pieces, of which they then chose their favorites for a CD. For the planned LP version for A-Musik of Cologne, we followed the same pattern. So different were the results, that this lead to two variations for Tetchy Teenage Tapes. The cut amount from LP to CD lays around the 50%." - A Musik. Highly recommended!

Title: Takt Der Arbeit
Format: LP
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $22.00
"Originally developed as a film score, Takt Der Arbeit is inspired by a handful of industrial and instructional films from the early 1960s until the early 1990s that portray different forms of work. Felix Kubin translates these historic documents into a musical poem of conceptual depth. Takt Der Arbeit - "the beat of work" - is not only serving as a title but also as constructive element in this endeavor. Being hunted down by the ever-accelerated pulse of our reality is an omnipresent issue in capitalist societies of the Western world. Living in times of constant exhaustion, its not only our bodies that have been disciplined by and synchronized to the rhythms of working processes, but also our minds that rage in the tempo of our surroundings. Following an almost analytical effort, Kubin and an ensemble of three percussionists investigate the different qualities and intensities of time that are catalyzed in working processes. While picking up precise temporal and motoric motives of the films, condensing paces and excavating rhythmic patterns, the ensemble maps out an animist choreography, shifting from a time when labor was still relying on bodily efforts to a time when machines and ticking clocks seem to reign and model human perception. While side A is dedicated to procedures that are still based on manual and mechanical movement, side B is inspired by the digital age, marked by invisible processes and subcutaneous pulses that humans internalize. The result is a critical and poetic reflection on the rhythms of our daily life and yet another example of Felix Kubins skills as a composer, placing him in the field of orchestral music. Works commissioned by NDR das neue werk (North German Radio). Personnel: Felix Kubin - organ, electronics, sampler; Miłosz Pękala - vibraphone, xylophone, sampler, percussion, effects; Magdalena Kordylasińska - marimba, percussion, effects; Hubert Zemler - glockenspiel, drums, percussion. Artwork by Stephen OMalley; Engineered by Robert Migas; Mixed by Tobias Levin; Mastered by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin." - Editions Mego.

Title: TXRF
Format: Double LP
Label: Its
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) is a method used to analyze the surfaces of materials by firing extremely flat X-rays. Subsequently, the physicist Joachim Knoth (1941-2004) developed a patent for precise measurement of defects in semiconductor chips. In 10 sequenced-based electronic miniatures, Felix Kubin, who presently consists of dangerous uninsulated powerlines, conducts the TXRF through an acoustical test arrangement. The experiment consists solely of a synthesizer, filter and sequencer. Full-bodied consecutive organisms arise out of which kaleidoscopic iridescent blossoms sprout. At times they appear as acoustic by-products of high energy discharges on an X-ray picture and sometimes as quiescent fluorescent images. Who knows when the experiment will come to an end? Will X-rays break at irregularities? Will transparent ears crawl over fixtures and make laboratory benches corrode? In view of the entire events musical beauty, all these questions are completely unimportant. Felix Kubin is one of electronic musics most dynamic and versatile personalities. A love-child of the home recording era, his various experiments and epithets include radio playwright, composer of Futurist and Dadatronic experimental pop as well as chamber orchestra music, filmmaker, incendiary performer, record label owner, lecturer and curator. He has made artwork in all sorts of fields since the 1980s, after studying media art at the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Enschede, Netherlands and illustration/animation at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. Kubins music is saturated with enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century avant-garde music." -Its.

Title: Antarktis Slow Rock
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.50
"This was the first release, in 1997 by a man named Felix Kubin, before stepping into the world of fame. So riding on this fame its been re-issued with a new mix of the original b-side. The a-side is indeed a slow, rock-rhythm box pieces, with nicely humming organ lines, a sweet little melody. A quasi eastern-Europe feel comes to live in the form of wind blowing over the tundra. And tundras shaking ahead on the flipside, via a casio rhythm and a more up-tempo song. Here to similar eastern Europe feelings float by, in what is a very joyful and up-tempo song. Great to have it back in print." - Vital Weekly.

Title: Teenage Tapes
Format: LP
Label: Minimal Wave
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"Minimal Wave is proud to present Teenage Tapes, an LP of selections from the early tape archives of Felix Kubin. The recordings span his adolescent years, when he was between 11 and 15 years old. He actually began playing music at 8 years old, when he studied piano, organ, and glockenspiel. In 1980, he acquired a Korg MS-20 synthesizer and his recordings took off from there. He began experimenting and recording a variety of tracks, adding his own bizarre lyrics to them. In 1982, he formed a band with Stefan Mohn called Die Egozentrischen 2. In 1984, they played a legendary live show at the Möbel Perdú in Hamburg, a small multifunctional gallery founded in the early 80s by a.o. Claudia Schneider-Esleben, who happened to be the sister of Florian Schneider (Kraftwerk). They were only 15 years old. Although Alfred Hilsberg of the notorious ZickZack label (Palais Schaumburg, Die Toedliche Doris, Einstuerzende Neubauten) had planned to release Felix Kubins early music in 1985, it took another 20 years until the French label SKIPP and the German label A-Musik put out a selection of tracks for the first time. Pressed on 180 gram black vinyl, printed on a heavy matte sleeve and presented with an innersleeve of all lyrics both in German and English text. Six of the twelve tracks on this album have never been released before." -Minimal Wave.

Title: Zemsta Plutona
Format: CD
Label: Omni Recording Company
Country: Australia
Price: $22.00
"Felix Kubin, the nuclear powered horseman of apocalyptic dance music, is back. The manic producer and agitator brings forth a new solo album. Zemsta Plutona strikes through our living room like lightning, leaving scorch marks and enlightened souls. His inciting machinations have multiplied over the past years and there seems to be no end in sight. A master of absurd self-staging, his work blurs the boundaries between sci-fi pop, conceptual chamber music, radio play, theatre and film. He prefers futuristic costumes and experimental haircuts, cultivating a fashion style somewhere between Kim Jong-il and Captain Kirk. But most of all Kubin is a brilliant composer and an errant arranger. The opening track, "Lightning Strikes" sets the path: The rhythm from a distorted human beatbox, enervating synth lines and an operatic chorus result in a Kubin hit par excellence. "Atomium Vertigo" opens the door to a magnetic groove to which Nicolas Ekla (Lem, Les Brochettes) murmurs foggy French negations. "Nachts im Park" (At Night in the Park), on the other hand, sounds like a soundtrack to a modernEdgar Wallace thriller: retro-futuristic computer music, the opposite of easy listening, but flirting with it. Whichever piece attracts you on this timeless album -- the snappy "Flies Without Memory" or the ghostly "Restez en Ligne" -- Kubin forever sounds like himself and always sounds new. An example of something new here is the inclusion of amplified acoustic instruments like drums, trumpet, trombone or laundry rack. In "Piscine Résonnez!" synth-sequences and fanfare sounds wander around while angry French girls yell something about manta rays in the swimming pool. Kubin dedicates himself to the great theme of feeling controlled remotely in "Der Kaiser ist Gestorben" (The Kaiser is Dead). Here, our life is steered by an invisible hand; a commemoration on existentialism and the topos of urban alienation. Mixed by Tobias Levin." - ZickZack.

Format: 7"
Label: Ultra Eczema
Country: Belgium
Price: $8.50
"German FELIX KUBIN was a wonder child making analog synth punk when he was 9 or 10 years old, making beautyful electro acoustic music with KLANGKRIEG in 87, doing several radioplays and music for films, theater and exhibtions etc.. this new 7" has three extremely spastic retarded gogo dance yell songs on it, definatly his strangest work to date, and very different from his recent more "dancy" records such as his banana dance record MATKI WANDALKI (a musik). smelling like a 50s gogo devo like brassband on analog synthesizers and a hairy drumset! it comes in a full colour off set printed cover design by dennis tyfus full of unhappy returtled apples and pears, and a portrait of felix as a dripping pear. for fans of BRUCE HAACK, FRIEDER BUTZMANN, and even MELT BANANA or DEVO." - Ultra Eczema.
