Title: Mil Pluton
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"Èlg is Laurent Gerard. Since 2000, Élg has made a name for himself in the experimental underground performing solo in venues across Europe and the USA and also in the trio Reines DAngleterre with Jo Tanz and Ghédalia Tazartès. Over the years he has built a complex body of work which has been spread amongst reputable labels such as Kraak, SS, Lal Lal Lal, Taped Sounds and Nashazphone. Now, four years since his debut, Tout Ploie, Alter and Hundebiss present Mil Pluton, the second Èlg album on vinyl. In that time, Gerard has knuckled down with a bunch of new gear and built a fresh sound which is difficult to categorize but still carries many of the characteristics of his previous work. One can hear EBM-esque rhythms, scalpel-sharp musique concrète-style editing, dense layers of swampy electronics which open up the same hypnotic spirals that the Èlg of old did. Vocally, Èlg has evolved beyond conventional language and now works with an Esperanto-like form of alien linguistics to front the sonic mass. If your musical interests sit within the realm of outer limits electronics and have been drawn towards the work of Throbbing Gristle, Bernard Szajner, Coil and Tazartes, then look no further. Mil Pluton also features musical contributions from Jo Tanz, Jean-Philippe Gross, Bill Kouligas (PAN), TG Gondard and Jan Anderzen (Tomutonttu/Kemialliset Ystävät). All tracks were composed, recorded and mixed by Èlg in Brussels in 2011, then mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin in December of that same year, and pressed lovingly onto 150 gram vinyl by Alter and Hundebiss in September 2012. Edition of 300 copies, housed in an elaborate fold-out jacket." - Alter/Hundebiss.

Title: Tout Ploie
Format: LP
Label: Kraak
Country: Belgium
Price: $15.00
"We first heard the music of Paris-based Laurent Gérard when he forgot a demo-cdr in the tourvan of Jack Rose last year, and directly became one of our favourite French acts of the moment. él-g makes a strange mix of French ballads and avant-garde song-writing. A pig-headed approach of the French language and ingenious arrangments are the core business of this dude. Tout Ploie is a compilation of both the best tracks from previously released cdrs and new work. él-g appears as a sort of modern day miniature version of Serge Gainsbourg on this debut-lp. The female singer, Charlene Darling, who accompanies him throughout the most part of the record only makes this comparison more apt. Gérard has never been affraid to buy records of Lee Hazlewood and late Fleetwood Mac. He extracted the right ingredients from those records and added some genuine French sensuality. Tout Ploie is the pop album that had to be made for a long time and doesnt fear experiment with guest appearances of e.g. Ignatz, Phil Todd, Mim and Foxy De Man." - Kraak.

Title: Capitaine Présent 5
Format: LP
Label: Nashazphone
Country: Egypt
Price: $29.00
"Monsieur Laurent Gerard, aka ÿl-g, aka one third of Ghedalia Tazartes Reines dAngleterre has been slowly building a little world of his own with several homemade records, cassettes and CD-Rs through the past few years and also through several interesting collaborations. Capitaine Présent is his most intimate project with already 4 volumes released on CD, cassette and DVD. This fifth outing (and first on vinyl) consists of a hallucinogenic promenade inside his psyche. Cut up spoken words, poetry, cosmic standup comedy from the afterlife, synth insanity, make up this, sometimes very eerie, personal release. Edition of 160 copies. One-sided LP." -Nashazphone

"So...a couple years back, one of my favorite French labels -- Le Villain Chien -- released a single by a guy going by the name of él-g. I picked up a few -- record unheard - for our mail order and when they arrived, gave one a spin. The sound was a combination of world-weary French pop and mellow psych. The record lived on the turntable for a few weeks. When the Belgian label Kraak announced it was putting out an él-g album, I said sign me up for some. I got a very small handful and offered them for sale. Of course, one found its way to the record player and what came out of the speakers was one of the best records Id heard in quite a while. Like the 7" I previously dug, this album strode through French pop styles and dreamy psychedelia, but this thing was much better than the seven inch. It had a classic sound. I wasnt alone in liking it. David Keenan of Volcanic Tongue called it Ass-flatteningly great and said it combines the decadent French ballad style of Serge Gainsbourg with warped acid folk settings, industrial electronics and the kinda schizophrenic approach to genre that defines much of Thierry Muller and Philippe Dorays work. Clive Bell at the Wire said él-gsfreak flag is exhilarating. And the few people who got the record from me, wrote and asked for more. After spin number 50, I said to myself, Damn, theres a whole lotta people on this side of the Atlantic that are gonna miss out on this demon, one of the best records of the last five years, me thinks. So I wrote él-g and Kraak and asked if I could do an American pressing and they said Sure good thing and here it is. So what you get is all the above -- with guest performances by the lovely Charlene Darling and Ignatz and Phil Todd of Ashtray Navigations. This edition on S.S. Records was remastered excellently by Paul Gold of Salt Mastering and has a slightly different cover and insert. And it is available at a domestic price." - S-S.
