Title: Shake Off The Village
Format: LP
Label: C/Site
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"To call Shake Off The Village Stefan Christensens debut full-length would be a bit of a misnomer. Since moving to solo work in 2015 Christensen has released a slew of full-length cassettes, vinyl EPs and collaborations. However, Shake Off The Village marks Christensens first outing at 12 inches and 33 RPMs. SOTV was recorded in his makeshift studio space, at home and at live shows, over a period of two years. The recordings are weaved together, allowing for only occasional silences, and daringly bridging from tailored acoustic songwriting to blaring all out noise assaults. The record shows a shift in Christensens writing. Many of the full band tracks are culled from hours of improvisation and often bring to mind the fertile Xpressway catalog. While loop driven four-track meditations veer closer to Precious Metal micro-presses, and nimbler guitar tracks show that Christensens songwriting prowess is as profound as ever. The air is heavy on SOTV, as tracks draw inspiration from Christensens daily life – interactions with students navigating a harsh urban experience at the high school where he works, death, longing and his roommates editorial dealings due to the New Haven Registers 25 cent price increase. However tensions are always eased with odes to friends, past and present, and a hopeful bliss one occasionally stumbles upon. Christensen has oft cited names like Galbraith and Shepard as pivotal influences, but their largest inspiration doesnt seem to come in sound, but rather in the way that Christensens music, demands the listeners attention - not to be relegated to the background, the ebbs-and-flows, tensions and quarrels of Shake Off The Village force their way front and center, not to be ignored. A keen observer noted Christensens music as easy listening for those who enjoyed difficult listening and we could not agree more. Limited to 350 copies. Lovingly hand assembled – linocut block printed front covers (no two are exactly alike) with paste-on/hand stamped back covers." - C/Site.

Title: American Pastoral Again
Format: LP
Label: Ever/Never
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
STEFAN CHRISTENSEN has been a staple in the New Haven, CT scene for the last decade, playing in, among many others, ESTROGEN HIGHS, EHRGEIZIG, PERMANENT FEELS and MEDICATION; recording Sex, Worn Leather, Pieces of Fruit; collaborating on the C/Site label and with the venue Popeyes Garage. And while it would seem that Stefan has always lived a sharks life—Ill drown if I stop swimming—it is really only in the last year that he has entered his most prolific phase. All that other stuff has been… practice? In the prior twelve months, Stefan has released two full lengths and a pair of EPs on cassette via the esteemed labels Loki, Night People, and C/Site. American Pastoral Again is the debut vinyl outing from this eponymous artist issued by ever/never records. Channeling Gate, Jim Shepard, Crystalized Movements, and Shakey himself, the twelve minute title track consumes the entire A-side in a melancholic dirge. It is backed by four quick blasts that introduce elements of pop, noise, and more dirge. With varied approaches, Stefans songs are written from a unique and developed voice. A unifying thread through these works is the careful craftsmanship, each song tailored perfectly—knowing when to let it breathe, when to ramp up tension—for the most impact. Had Stefan cut his teeth in a more insular scene, in a more glamorous town, hed have been a hitmaker, but we are thankful that was not the case. As American Pastoral Again demonstrates, he is onto something much more fulfilling and unforgettable." - Ever/Never.

Title: Open Day
Format: 7"
Label: I Dischi Del Barone
Country: Sweden
Price: $10.00
"Following a slew of recent solo releases, this is the first vinyl single from Stefan Christensen, known from New Haven, CT bands like Estrogen Highs and Permanent Feels. Like a one-legged Crazy Horse sort of walking on the Xpressway towards the Twisted Village and stopping by Columbus, Ohio for a minute, these 5 tracks range from Galbraithian over-before-it-began cassette-folk (Open Day) to V-3 like smutty, downer rock (Brass City Dilemma and Braille), accidently scratching a few Precious Metal lathe cuts in-between. Christensen manoeuvres the 4-track recorder like there is no tomorrow, mixing down dirge but at the same time oddly uplifting and smashing songs that are just as immediate as they are life-affirming somewhere in all their distorted and tape-saturated gloom. 200 copies. Black vinyl, white cardboard sleeve with postcard attached, stamped white labels, insert. Plays at 33rpm." - I Dischi Del Barone.
