Artist: CROMAGNON
Title: Cave Rock
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Originally released in 1969, Cromagnons Cave Rock strings together a patchwork of untamed sounds and mental images which perfectly articulate the boundary-breaking psychedelic revolution that was occurring at the time -- musically and socially. Widely heralded as the best freak-out record of all time, Cromagnons Cave Rock is a captivating experience that engages the listener. The album surpassed even the most out there psychedelia of its day, predicting what would soon become the disjointed aural landscapes of Faust and the violent scuzz of Throbbing Gristle. Vivid elements of Cromagnons influence continues to shine in the lysergic rhythms of the Sun City Girls, Nurse With Wound, Ghost, and Animal Collective. Includes insert with the first documented history of Cromagnon." - Jackpot.

Artist: JANDEK
Title: Jandek Vinyl Box Set
Format: Triple LP Box Set
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $80.00
"Three essential Jandek recordings from one of the most respected but least heard artists of our time. Set includes: the outsider masterpiece Chair Beside a Window (1982), the haunting and lonely Six and Six (1981), and the murky, but delicate debut Ready for the House (1978). Jandeks past three decades of intense productivity have created 72 releases, yielded a depth of discussion amongst critics and fans, a feature length documentary, and only a smattering of live performances. Tribute CDs featuring Bright Eyes, Low, Wilcos Jeff Tweedy, and Mountain Goats help to illustrate Jandeks influence on todays artists. No amount of time or experience can prepare a listener for the experience of Jandek. Working in direct collaboration with Corwood Industries, Jackpot Records is thrilled to offer this heavyweight vinyl edition box set for Record Store Day 2013. Limited to 500 hand numbered copies. Includes three exclusive posters and insert." -Jackpot.

Title: Six and Six
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"Originally released in 1981, following a three year gap between the release of debut LP Ready For The House, Jandeks second album Six And Six stands as an incredible document of the formative stages of his cracked genius. Following the astonishingly bleak tone of the first LP, the musical elements are almost catatonic. 9 songs drift by as a series of slight variations on several desolate, untuned acoustic guitar phrases. The meditative, steady music forms a dark backdrop for some of Jandeks more vivid and poetic lyrical thoughts. Universal doom, loner dirges and sea-themed ruminations are all present. This is far and away the core of what was to come, in its most succinct and coincidentally most haunted form. This album was also the first to incorporate an image of Jandek on the cover, both giving a face to the sounds and hinting at what would become a prolific series of incredible, disturbed albums. Vinyl for this album has been unavailable since the initial pressing ran out, and has been sought ravenously by collectors ever since. Working in direct collaboration with Corwood Industries, were thrilled to offer this exact repress, heavyweight-vinyl edition. An astonishingly ghostly album, unlike anything else and also unique to this particular phase in Jandeks evolution, Six And Six is a crucial piece of the puzzle that we can only hope never gets solved completely." -Jackpot

Title: Corridor Of Faces
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"In a genre built on obscured and unsung genius, Corridor Of Faces transcends and stands out as a true psyche masterpiece. Rising above any number of recently unearthed late-60s anglo-pop platters, the sole offering from small town Massachusetts phenomenon Lazy Smoke is a cohesive, solid, classic album in every sense. Ten songs that weave into one-another, painting some beautifully drifty sonic picture as they go. The first remarkable trait of Lazy Smokes sound is the lead vocals uncanny similarity to John Lennon. If that likeness was the whole story, we would have a Beatles sound-alike on our hands, and that would be that. Upon digging just a little deeper below the surface, we instead find a darker tone and a patient, eerie and almost shut-in feeling resonating through the songs. While bands like The Beatles and The Left Banke were singing about love, lament and hallucinated travel experiences, the songs on Corridor Of Faces get sincerely dark right away. Even the seemingly-light teenage love-themed Sarah Saturday shares an undercurrent of on-the-edge uncertainty and dread. Its this undercurrent that calls to mind comparisons to Forever Changes-era Love and the more damaged end of the pop spectrum. Originally privately pressed in MA in an edition of only 500 copies in 1968. Features original cover art, printed inner sleeve with rare photos and band history." -Jackpot.

Artist: MIJ
Title: Yodeling Astrologer
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Yodeling Astrologer (aka: Color By The Number) could be considered an anomaly, a one-off or a miracle of circumstance in the history of psychedelic pop music. Mij, a.k.a. Jim Holmberg was discovered by ESP owners while playing in Washington Square Park in the summer of 1968. His style and persona mesmerized the label heads, and he explained to them a recent auto accident had fractured his skull but left him changed. He perceived sound, color and vision differently and he had funneled this new world of perception directly into his music. All this was enough to warrant getting Mij into the studio to lay down a record of his rambly, cosmic folk songs. The entire album was recorded in three hours, first-takes and impromptu production intact, then pressed up and introduced to the world shortly thereafter. To focus on the yodeling aspect of the Yodeling Astrologer would miss some of the depth of this album. Not just a hippie novelty act of the time, this is a truly thoughtful and somewhat frenzied document. Like Buffy St. Maries Meditations, Linda Perhacs Parallelograms or Cold Fact by Rodriguez, this is an album of sincere folk songs colored with subtle psychedelic touches. Uneasy reverberations and soft echoes glide over Holmbergs breezy songs, creating a consistent sonic environment as spontaneous as it is intriguing. Available on vinyl for the first time since an incredibly limited original pressing in 1969 on ESP Disk." -Jackpot

"Formed in 1967 as a psychedelic electronic duo featuring Dan Taylor on drums and Simeon on a homemade synthesizer consisting of 12 oscillators (and an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second hand electronic junk), Silver Apples quickly gained a reputation as New Yorks leading underground musical expression. Their pulsating rhythmic beats with the use of electronics laid the groundwork for what would become “Krautrock” Silver Apples was released in 1968 and still remains an innovative and revolutionary album. Their highly influential sound has influenced countless bands from Stereolab, Beastie Boys, Blur and more." - Jackpot.

Artist: SKABBS
Title: Idle Threat
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Jackpot Records is proud to present Idle Threat, a collection of never before issued recordings from 1977-78 Lawndale, California punks, The Skabbs. In tandem with the birth of punk, these music obsessed nerds, bored and listless at the end of the 70s, became disenchanted with the increasingly plastic tendencies of modern music. The Skabbs concocted some truly outsider sounds, melding jagged Devo-esque rhythms with lightning-fast technical touches that predicted the Minutemen by a few years. Sadly, the band was cut short in 1979 when songwriter and frontman, Steven Joseph Salazar dies at just 26 years old from a life-long heart condition. In their grief, The Skabbs choose to disband burying Salazars legacy of songs with their sorrow. In retrospect, The Skabbs steadily became a scene unto themselves, making a proto-punk sound guided by a mission to simply make music that sounded less gross than Foreigner. With the exception of being recorded by SST producing genius Spot, The Skabbs were considered too weird for the art crowd and just terrified the hippies." - Jackpot.

Title: The Power In One
Format: LP
Label: Jackpot
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"The Wipers The Power in One became the final Wipers recording. Recorded in 1998 by Greg Sage, all tracks were recorded through vacuum tubes. As with every Wipers LP I would spend many months observing people and their situations to get ideas of what was in their mind and their motivations. This was always where the inspiration would come from for our songs. I would get a glimpse of the future by doing this and it was easy to write songs that would make sense 10 years from then. The Wipers songs and sound has always been a reflection of real life. I would look for raw and powerful emotions to write about, things that would bring a sense and illusion of realism, this would make our LPs more personal to the listener. I got so many songs from just walking the streets of Portland and watching people. - Greg Sage (The Wipers). Re-mastered from the original tapes." - Jackpot.

Title: Dream Sounds
Format: CD
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Dream Sounds may be the closest Nagisa Ni te ever gets to a greatest hits record. And although there are only four tracks on this compact disc (some previously released, but all re-recorded, re-mixed and re-mastered for this special edition), the record clocks in over forty minutes, runs the whole gamut of the sounds and moods of Nagisa Ni tes songcraft over the years, and contains their most moving moments. This full-length record is the perfect introduction to the dreamy and nature-obsessed universe of Nagisa Ni te. Nagisa Ni te is Shinji Shibayama and Masako Takeda are from Osaka, Japan. This is their sixth album." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Yosuga
Format: Double LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"Its been four years since the release of Nagisa Ni Tes previous album Dream Sounds, and now -- after much work -- their seventh album Yosuga has been completed. Jagjaguwar is once again very proud to deliver the bands most recent work to North America and Europe. Yosuga also marks the first time that Jagjaguwar has released a Nagisa Ni Te title on vinyl (not to mention the still popular compact disc format!). The Japanese duo of Shinji Shibayama and Masako Takeda deliver an album that consists of both beautiful arrangements and soft melodies. Yosuga -- the meaning of which refers to the source or grounds upon which the body and mind rely -- is one of Nagisa Ni Tes finest efforts." - Jagjaguwar

Title: City Of Straw
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Crafting a lasting personal aesthetic in the midst of our ephemeral music culture is as rare as it is cause for celebration. With the release of City of Straw Brooklyns Sightings can be counted among the few contemporary bands who have forged a unique voice amongst the racket. Recorded over a number of months in 2009 at The Ocropolis (Oneidas Brooklyn, NY studio), the bands seventh studio album becomes the crucible from which their grandest and most coherent statement finally emerges. Sightings has never presented a particularly welcoming fa?e and their sui generis music has perhaps been passed over by less discerning listeners over the eleven years of their existence, but throughout this they have created a singular body of work appreciated and touted by the likes of Thurston Moore and Andrew WK. Sightings will insist (and we agree wholeheartedly) that at their core they are a rock band working within the context of pop song-craft. As bassist Richard Hoffman told us recently, "I think everyone in the band tries to remember the value of minimalism. Ultimately I think we try to write pop music, where theres no chaff and everything has a place." With a deep reach beyond the spirit of their influence from greats like Birthday Party, Dead C and Jesus Lizard, City of Straw finds Sightings working at the peak of their creative powers and is the perfect re-introduction to one of New Yorks most accomplished bands." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Disciples of California
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"The Skygreen Leopards started in 2001 as a duo, just Glenn Donaldson and Donovan Quinn. Working out of the Hobo Victoria district of San Francisco, theyve since recorded five full-length albums and one EP in their five year history. Over these recordings the band has been given to metamorphosis but has always managed to sound distinctly Skygreen. Their newest album, Disciples of California, continues in the alchemical tradition of change and inward-revolt. On it, the Skygreen Leopards mix pop melodies, minimal country truisms, jingle-jangling Californianism and angular folk with something the band refers to as our horse called Dire Arrow, which roughly translates into family-friendly (sans the American Censorship connotations)." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Gorgeous Johnny
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Its been 8 years since the first The Skygreen Leopards record was released. Since then the boys have maintained their singular aesthetic while managing to dabble with faux-folk, avant garde pop, reverb-drenched lo-fi psychedelia, plastic country and blurry ballads. This latest effort finds them collaborating with Jason Quever (Papercuts) to create a melancholy world overflowing with itinerant dandies, urban streets, suburban teens, and more girls names than I care to count, all set to melodic shuffles featuring harmonies, frail piano, and romantic guitars. As always with the Leopards the rhythms refuse to be bridled, the boys resist the urge to jam, and they wont ever learn to sing properly. This will frustrate the expectations of some. Others will find a sweet shadowy hiding place in these songs -- 3 minutes to hang out with girls who race horses, boys who never learned to dance, and a dirty uncle who steals your cigarettes." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Advent
Format: CD
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Jagjaguwar is excited to reissue Richard Youngs Advent , Youngs very first record originally released in 1990 in the vinyl format on Youngs own No Fans label. Only 300 LPs were released initially. It was then later released on the Table Of The Elements label and quickly went out of print. It became a true underground success story, a critical darling, with Alan Licht, for example, putting it on his minimal top ten list in the publication Halana. Simply put, it is an essential work in the body of work of one of the most important modern day progressive minimalists. Includes a new essay by Richard Youngs. A three-part composition for piano, voice, and ultra-nasty oboe and electric guitar, Advent indicated signs of life in a genre long dormant in the 80s experimental scene. It continues the tradition from [Terry Rileys] Reed Streams on down with gusto. --Alan Lichts Minimal Top Ten List, Halana.

Title: Autumn Response
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"A spartan folk-pop record filled with tinder-box intimacies, composed of some of the shortest songs ever recorded by Richard Youngs. The simplest form of trickery comes from Richard Youngs restrained use of an acoustic guitar, bringing it back to Youngs basics. Twenty-six seconds into I Need The Light, the first track off the album, the listener is confronted with the pivotal element of the record, the drawing line between the hardcore Youngs purists and fairweather fans: the track, like others on the record, features Youngs double-tracked voice splitting in two -- as one overlaid performance veers away from the other. This gesture warrants such a title King of the Progressive Minimalists -- which is often used beside his name by critics -- as the confident inclusion of such an effect grants it legitimacy. Youngs voices slipping away from one another is on par with other intense representations of singularity such as Donald Judd and Malevichs Suprematicist Composition: White on White. Pop is a gesture, a stance, a pose. Autumn Response is a singer-songwriter album, as Youngs fingers slip over the steel strings with little feet and whispery toes, his gently prophetic songs evoke Roger Waters and the folk phase play is sure to appeal to fans of Animal Collectives Sung Tongs." - Jagjaguwar. 2007 release.

Title: Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Make a proper pop album." Thus was the simple dare handed to Richard Youngs from his friend Andrew "Paz" Paine during their weekly Sunday meet-up. Ever the modest master, Youngs said in accepting this friendly challenge that he merely endeavored to capture the "beats and hooks" of contemporary pop. We present the results here as Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits. Among bright, hypnotic loops, Youngs voice finds its inner Bowie. But let it be known: this collection of house-inspired gems displays much more than a capacity for pop emulation. Its a confirmation of Youngs craft and prowess, no matter the terrain. With enviable grace, experimental minimalist Youngs sets his sights on the pop world and claims it as his own. Youngs heretofore unknown love of Pet Shop Boys and the Madchester sound is reimagined via his unique avant sensibility and atmospheric wand strokes. Originally released in 2009 as a very-limited CD-R on Paines Sonic Oyster label, Jagjaguwar is honored to present Beyond the Valley of Ultrahits, remastered and on vinyl for the first time." -Jagjaguwar

Title: Naive Shaman
Format: CD
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The seventh Jagjaguwar release from prolific musician RICHARD YOUNGS, and one of his most personal and intimate efforts to date. Created on a computer at home, the album is a high-density digital song cycle driven by heavy, heavy electric bass guitar. Modal vocal lines combine with throbbing sonics, nonlinear percussion, frosted atmospherics, strangled guitars, and vocals." - Jagjaguwar.

Artist: YOUNGS, RICHARD
Title: River Through Howling Sky
Format: CD
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"If the musical real number line is infinitely dense, then the most recent work of Richard Youngs endeavors to fill in all of the holes on it. River Through Howling Sky is Youngs latest full-length. It returns to the more meditative and drone-y side of his songcraft (circa Sapphie (1998) and Making Paper (2001)), although this is no true devolution: all of his recordings to date have some measure of these qualities. So what is it that sets River Through Howling Sky apart from its predecessors? It is the density on the recording, both intra-spatial and otherworldly. The howling guitar that points unerringly to some imagined horizon line. Throughout, Youngs is the calm and steady wolf, chanting odes to infinity. Expose the ancient Brotherhood of Pythagoras to River Through Howling Sky , and you would find knowing nods, pursed lips, and secret incantations in caves. An unwitting acceptance that not everything is rational or conceptually circumnavigable. Our western tonal system relies on ratios, i.e. strings whacked at particular intervals. Youngs howling guitar and circular chants -- with the help of a spartan amount of percussion and electronics -- may just encompass all the possible ratios and, mystically, more." - Jagjaguwar.

While there they scored a record deal for Angelblood with Capt. Trip, and traveled to Osaka to record an album for Japan Overseas with the Yoshimi and Atari of the Boredoms, joined by in-house musician Yoshida. Recording and recording, only breaking to visit the local Shinto shrine, the ensemble found their sound in a blend of NNCK primitive shaman percussion with the Boredoms penchant for electronically-inspired repetition, Ritas Eastern European vocal eccentricities, and the ocassional strum of the sitar. "As for the album of the second piece "Suishou no Fune", A Duo performance of Pirako Kurenai(g,vo) and Kageo(g,vo) plays a key role. I can listen to the thing which, so to speak, says a standard of "Suishou no Fune" with this album. "Suishou no Fune" digests many gigs broadcasting, and or it is a performance of a style to feel by a meeting place to be completely different, but this CD can find the matrix each time. A song becoming basic and a performance of a guitar rise from chaos clearly. A noise of "Suishou no Fune" is not annoyance and a madman. It is pulse on the physiology the persons wriggling to live. It thinks of the pulse while hearing gigs of "Suishou no Fune". Then, the sound that should not have heard before invades my soul." - Tetsuya Miyata (Japanese modern art and a researcher of thought). Since then, he has carved out his very own unique approach to experimental music, with an unmistakable artisic expression. The new Lp, "Rörelsen mellan rummen", is no exception to this claim. With an astonishing precision and sensibility for details, "Rörelsen mellan rummen" is definately one of his finest moments so far. We are nvited to the inner corners of a musical universe where the dull replicas of todays hollowed out experimental "scene" are left far behind. With intriguing sound collages and tape manipulations, "Rörelsen mellan rummen" takes the formula of the past to even higher levels. With a more crystallized sound than ever, the dense and restrained compositions on "Rörelsen mellan rummen" provides a new milestone in an impressive artistic trajectory. Amph shows a slightly diffrent approach this time, focusing on a less fragmentised and layered sound, creating a more nuanced and varied expression. In their 19-minute piece Nolde they explore new territories, showing a delicate sense for well-crafted sounds and composition.
Arv & Miljö contributes with a conceptual piece, called Bilism, consisting of sounds deriving from traffic and highways. A rather demanding recording adding new and interesting aspects to the project. With a cold and distant sound, Bilism, puts you in the seat of the observer. A recording suitable for multiple rotations!
Released in 220 copies." - Jartecknet.

Title: Vattnet drog sig tillbaka, stenarna blev synliga
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $20.00
“It was two years ago Ättestupa released their last fullength recording. An act that never seemed to fit easily in any rigid stilistic framework. Always evolving and moving into new directions but still somehow managing to keep a distinct feeling and uncompromising approach. Their fourth Lp release doesnt differ from this picture. Still hanging on to a sound that bears the undisputed characteristics known from earlier releases we are exposed for new elements and musical narrative. The new Lp pushes into new territories, moving away from traditional song structures and instrumentations, presenting a distinct and carefully elaborated recording where the two sides constitutes a well integrated totality of stripped down bleakness. The birth of tragedy. Released in 300 copies.” - Jartecknet.

Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet

Price: $20.00
"On their second Lp Enklav presents two longer tracks of raw tape manipulations of concrete sounds. With an uncompromising attitude and a sound that seems to be carved out of stone, these two tracks offers an intriguing and challenging experience.
Recorded in early 2013 by D. Johansson and V. Ottosson. Released in 200 copies." - Jartecknet.

Title: Aristokrat
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $20.00
“HSV is Henrik Söderström, an artist based in Stockholm. After a bunch of brilliant tape releases there is finally time for a proper LP-release, Aristokrat. HSV always had a distinct sound, with a kind of rudimentary feel to it. Even though the rugged lo-fi tape sound from earlier releases is still present Aristokrat has a more coherent and balanced structure. Tape loops are still a prominent feature but are blended with a more extensive use of analogue synths. The six tracks on Aristokrat moves on slowly, without progressing into climaxes, accompanied with the sound of deteriorating electronics. Released in 300 copies.” - Jartecknet.

Title: Tankar & Syner Del 2
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $20.00
"This is the second volume in the series, Tankar & Syner, where Krökta Rum explores worlds beyond the beyond the physical realm. Moving tomards a space where the surreal meets the concrete. In this second volume the subject(s) of transcendence are pushed beyond the liminal space, and the boundaries of the experienced world are slowly dissolving, finally breaking out of a contingent reality.
In Tankar & Syner Del 2, Krökta Rum operates in the same audio landscapes heard on earlier manifestations, even though this volume tends to focus on the abstract dimensions of sound. Released in 200 copies." - Jartecknet.

Title: Nära
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $22.00
“Gothenburgs finest is back with another fullength recording, offering a delicate and puzzling experience, showing new aspects to the audial works of Sewer Election. Chilling oscillating drones and field recordings woven into an intricate mixture, presenting a more personal sound than ever.
Comes with bigger inlay with extensive liner notes by Matthias Andersson. Released in 350 copies.” - Jartecknet.
“Instigated with “Kassettmusik” (iDEAL, 2008) and its suffocating minimalism, carefully elaborated into the brutish musique concréte of “Bristning” (RTB, 2009) to later fully blossom into the crude reel-to-reel odysseys of “Vidöppna Sår” (PAN, 2010) and “Vittra Sönder” (Throne Heap, 2012), “Nära” pretty much feels like the perfect culmination of the Sewer Election explorations of the last five years or so. Perhaps the most laid back and mellow Sewer Election so far, “Nära” blends the now very beautifully executed tape-manipulations with sparse oscillating tones and a heavy but at the same time subtle use of everyday life recordings from the near surroundings.” - Matthias Andersson, Fördämning Fanzine, April 2014.

Title: Félicité Thösz
Format: LP
Label: Jazz Village
Country: France
Price: $22.00
180-gram vinyl. Includes download code. "Magma first released Félicité Thösz in 2012. Dominated by the celestial voice of Stella Vander, it was the bands first studio album since they re-formed in the early part of the century. With lyrics in French (which is not common in the bands discography) as well as Kobaïan, the language invented by Christian Vander, Félicité Thösz is a trip which will lead you from Japan to the Urals via Central Asia, with a detour to pay homage to Tamla Motown. Powerful, hypnotic, and unclassifiable, there has been absolutely nothing like Magma in the last fifty years." - Jazz Village.

The album is the first chapter of Magmas Köhntarkösz trilogy, which also includes Köhntarkösz and Ëmëhntëhtt Ré. Title: Kobaia
Format: LP
Label: Jazz Village
Country: France
Price: $30.00
180-gram vinyl. "In the late sixties, Christian Vander founded Magma and stated his commitment to produce a different kind of music. Released in 1970, Magmas début album Kobaïa succeeded beyond anyones wildest expectations. The groups sound blended diverse influences from Bach to Coltrane to produce a brand new musical style. While the instruments were familiar, they were used in unconventional ways, and the vocals, which called on an invented language, only heightened the otherworldly affect of this revolutionary band." - Jazz Village.

This live recording, which took place in June of 75 at the Olympia Tavern, captures Christian Vander at the top of his artistic game and features a mind-blowing performance from Didier Lockwood, whose violin adds an extra dimension to the profound originality of this superb double album." - Jazz Village.

"Rïah Sahïltaahk is the name of the Kobaïan who left after all the others, despite their disapproval. He thought he was better than anyone else and he was sure he could convert Kobaïas enemies to the Kobaïan spirit. But he failed and left alone for Kobaïa. On the symbolic stop-over planet, Malaria, he has to face the raging elements he thinks he can dominate. With his ship almost sunk, he ends up begging them... to no avail. He will disappear. Drowned, swept away by the frenzied elements. After the noise... silence. At dawn, only a final calm remains, enlightened by the soft beams of the sun in this new day." Recorded and mixed between September 2013 and June 2014 at UZ Studio. 180 gram super fidelity vinyl; includes a digital download for CD master quality .wav files." - Jazz Village.

Title: Hard Luck Soul
Format: CD
Label: Jazzman
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"If musical accomplishment is anything to go by, the members of the Ohio Penitentiary 511 Jazz Ensemble would immediately be given their pardon. Their privately-pressed LP from 1971 is a legend in obscurity, and a master class in what can be achieved in the most trying of circumstances. The 511 Jazz Ensemble was made up entirely of serving prisoners in the Ohio State Penitentiary. It was founded in 1971 to give those prisoners with musical aptitude an opportunity to be productive and creative. Band leader Reynard Birtha was originally from North Carolina, where he played in a band called The Outer Limits before getting into a scrape with the law and being incarcerated by the local sheriffs office. During a stint on a southern-style road gang, he escaped and ended up in Cincinnati, and through a mutual passion for music, he met fellow musician Logan Rollins, nephew of jazz legend Sonny Rollins. They became friends and jammed at local clubs before both ended up in the State penitentiary, for reasons not entirely clear. At the time it was customary for musicians to visit the prison and give concerts, especially during the Christmas period. Reynard remembers renowned musicians such as Art Blakey and Kai Winding giving recitals at the prison. These visits were not only a source of entertainment for the prisoners, but they were also a source of inspiration for musicians like Reynard. He and Logan formed the 511 Jazz Ensemble, incorporating the remnants of the prison Pit Band. Reynard recalls that "the number 511 was the P.O. box address of the prison, and we would perform in the yard during every holiday, while the prisoners marched around and got their food." Both Reynard and Logan had been to music conservatory and could read, write and arrange music as well as play in any musical key, unlike most of the rest of the band, which gave rise to difficulties in keeping the project going. However, with their enthusiasm and perseverance came success, when the visiting Ohio State University Band were so impressed after jamming with the inmates that they returned to make a record. Funding was put forward by a wealthy club owner and his conglomerates from Columbus, microphones and studio equipment were brought in from the outside and the recordings were made in the auditorium of the prison chapel. Unfortunately, as far as the business side of things was concerned, Reynard admits he was "green" and didnt receive any payment for his efforts. In fact, to this day he has not even seen, let alone owned, a copy of the LP, the album which contains his sole recorded output. "All I knew what to do was how to read, write and play music." The Hard Luck Soul LP was the bands only recording, and the group disbanded after the release of Logan and Rollins. The music on the album comprises of four long tracks, each allowing the soloists to express themselves without restriction. Free of chains at the time the music was made, the result is a unique, compelling insight into the freedom that jazz can afford, giving a sense of hope and liberty to free and incarcerated men alike." - Jazzman.

"The name Salah Ragab was best known to jazz fans and record collectors by way of another LP that was recorded with Sun Ra in the early 70s. His album Prism Music Unit with the Cairo Jazz Band was released in Egypt with another by the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble, but perhaps only Salah himself knew of the other songs he had recorded at the time that didnt make it onto these LPs. Hammer, Anvil & Stirrup is the debut album from The Sign Of Four on Jazzman Records and is spread exquisitely across 2x10" LPs in hand-printed sleeves and a digipack CD. Recorded live at Chicken Shack studios in Nottingham, real musical instruments are used to create a swirling jungle of throbbing palpitations, evoking the spaced-out vibes of an unsound mind. Its an infectious fermentation of debauched instrumental chaos, sometimes calming, but often unnerving, that will leave the listener bewildered, wide-eyed and gasping for more. Title: Spiritual Jazz 2: Europe
Format: Double LP
Label: Jazzman
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"Deluxe gatefold double LP version with color inserts and on 180 gram vinyl. As the 60s progressed, cultural and political revolutions occurred both in the U.S. and in Europe. Jazz was both a victim and a savior, with radical developments in the music occurring on both continents. In the U.S., artists took control of their own musical destiny as small labels broke away from the mainstream, expressing new and creative visions of freedom and peace against a backdrop of civil unrest, repression and war. In 60s Europe, the jazz community forged ahead with a different revolution; that of breaking away from mere emulation of their American counterparts. A distinctive, European jazz sound began to develop that combined traditional music from across Europe and around the world with the creative freedom so abundant in American jazz. Over time, the most forward-thinking creative talents of the post-Coltrane European jazz generation crafted and nurtured sophisticated and multi-faceted styles of jazz that were as radical as they were beautiful, giving modern jazz a characteristically European flavor. The music is a heady mix indeed; stirring jazz overtures with orchestra and choir, festival performances recorded live from the grassy heartlands of central Europe, modal montages inspired by pilgrimages to Asia and Africa, experiments in rhythm and sound where modern jazz meets traditional Balkan and flamenco folk music. This is spiritual jazz, European-style. All tracks fully licensed and digitally restored from the original master tapes." -Jazzman.

Title: Spiritual Jazz 7: Islam
Format: Double LP
Label: Jazzman
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"Gatefold sleeve. Esoteric, modal, and progressive jazz, inspired by Islam and recorded between 1957-1988. Songs ancient and divine - the seventh volume of Jazzman Records acclaimed Spiritual Jazz series examines the influence and impact of Islam on four decades of jazz innovation. Through Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali, the civil rights era in America saw African American liberation politics famously associated with Islamic belief. This was not the first time that radical developments in African American cultural life had been widely and famously associated with Islam - that distinction belongs not to political or sporting giants, but to the progressive jazz musicians of the bebop generation. Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey, Sahib Shihab, Gigi Gryce, Idrees Sulieman, Ahmad Jamal, Yusef Lateef; all these legendary jazz pioneers - and countless more - were early converts to the spiritually charged Ahmadiyya school of Islam. Their faith profoundly influenced the music that they made, and the presence of prominent and innovative Muslim musicians at the heart of jazz culture in America has been recognized ever since. The tracks on this collection follow the story of Islam and jazz from the 1950s to the 1980s. Recorded by Muslim jazz musicians, they often draw specifically on Middle Eastern or Islamic music, dream of an esoteric or spiritual Afro-East, or invoke the landscape and sound worlds of Islamic Africa. Spiritual Jazz 7 presents a selection of visionary music - inspired by faith, powered by jazz. Many tracks never before reissued. Features: Maurice McIntyre, Kahil ElZabars Ritual Trio with Malachi Favors & Ari Brown, Pharoah Sanders, Emmanuel Abdul-Rahim, Creative Arts Ensemble, East New York Ensemble De Music, Idrees Sulieman, Jamila Sulieman, Yusef Lateef, Sabu Martinez & Sahib Shihab, Abdelrahman Abdo Elkhatib, Solar Plexus, The Lightmen Plus One, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and Dawan Muhammad. Double LP version comes in gatefold a sleeve with extensive liner notes and pictures." - Jazzman.

Title: Sex at the Maly Trostenets
Format: LP
Label: Järtecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $22.00
"Originally released as a private cassette in 2007 and later re-released the same year on Thorax. After returning to this cassette repeatedly during the years we felt it needed to be presented to a wider audience. Sex at the Maly Trostenets presents two longer pieces of industrial tape loop works with a dry and uneffected analogue song. Never harsh or aggressive but rather focusing on texture and atmosphere. Cold, lo-fi machinery that relentlessly keeps pounding. Always minimal but never boring. The delicate ruggedness of Sex at the Maly Trostenets is simply something you rarely encounter these days. Far away from the contemporary lo-fi genre where lo-fi is not mere a description of recording technique but also embodies an idea of poor musical standards. Recording is retrieved from original tape master making it more detailed and rich in sound than previous releases. Carefully mastered for vinyl. Comes with bigger inlay based on the original cassette artwork." - Järtecknet. Ultra Fuck is Dan Johansson of Sewer Election. Edition of 200 copies.

Format: LP

Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
“Originally released in 1964, My Name Is Albert Ayler is the debut album by legendary free jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler. Recorded in Copenhagen with a Scandinavian rhythm section, this album sets the stage for the sheer brilliance that was to come. Although the backing band plays fairly straight-ahead bop and feels out of place at times, it doesnt detract from the program as a whole, as Aylers singular sound shines through. This is especially true on the absolutely stunning version of "Summertime." An essential piece of the unique Albert Ayler puzzle, documenting one of the most important jazz musicians of the 20th century.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Cages piece, which spans the whole of the first side, was originally composed in 1960, and like many of his pieces, would never be performed the same way twice. It involves the overlaying of transparencies to create the "score", while performers manipulate phonographic cartridges in a variety of ways to create amplified sound. To add to the effect, this particular performance is actually the superimposition of four performances. In all, it is a truly groundbreaking piece of 20th century classical. Wolffs side, while less extreme, is equally innovative, and a window into his particular pointillist vision of music." - Jeanne Dielman.

Artist: DUBUFFET, JEAN
Title: Expériences Musicales 1961
Format: Double LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Italy
Price: $31.00
“Recorded in Venice in 1961 by the French sculptor, painter, and iconoclast Jean Dubuffet, these recordings were originally released in a hyper-limited 10" box set that is all but impossible to acquire. An early progenitor of the avant-garde and musique concrete, Dubuffets recordings nearly defy category and still sound innovative some 50+ years later. Essential and unequivocal recordings from the founder of the Art Brut movement.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Artist: SHEPP & BILL DIXON QUARTET, THE ARCHIE
Title: The Archie Shepp-Bill Dixon Quartet
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Belgium
Price: $23.00
“Jeanne Dielman present a reissue of The Archie Shepp & Bill Dixon Quartet, originally released in 1962. The debut as a leader for both Archie Shepp and Bill Dixon, two formidable members of the free jazz and avant-garde elite. Rounding out the quartet are bassists Reggie Workman and Don Moore, and drummers Paul Cohen and Howard McRae, each on various tracks. While the album undoubtedly swings, this piano-less quartet definitely prefigures the trailblazing free jazz work the two leaders would be involved in for the remainder of the decade, and beyond. An essential piece of early free jazz.” - Jeane Dielman.

Title: Blue York

Price: $23.00
"Jeanne Dielman present Blue York, a collection featuring unreleased tracks from Sun Ras Arkestra from 1963. Herman Poole Blount, better known to the world as Sun Ra, lived more musical lives in his 79 years on this planet (and others) than seems possible. In the 30s he was the most rigorous bandleader in Birmingham, heading the Sonny Blount Orchestra and filling every waking moment with music or philosophical discussions, by the 40s he had moved to Chicago and performed with luminaries such as Wynonie Harris, Fletcher Henderson and Coleman Hawkins. By the 50s he had changed his name to Sun Ra and began performing with longtime Arkestra bandmates John Gilmore and Marshall Allen. By the 1960s, Sun Ras vision of spiritual free jazz was fully formed. This collection focuses heavily on the masterful tenor saxophone of John Gilmore." - Jeanne Dielman.

Sun Ra started his own label, El Saturn (or Saturn), to release his own recordings as well as those featuring the Arkestra backing local R&B and doo-wop groups. Though the genres showcased here are more pop than the world has come to expect from Sun Ra, the vibe and feel is purely cosmic, producing some of the wildest, strangest R&B ever created this side of the sun. Essential early Sun Ra performances and productions, 1954-1958.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Title: s/t
Format: Cass
Label: Jerkwave
Country: USA
Price: $5.00
"Dead Luke is in fact dead, announced last January. This self-titled cassette, released nearly a year ago, was until the announcement his only recorded document. It seems Luke is hungrier in zombification, as he has since released a slew of vinyl and plans for a wealth more. Familiar to the Sacred Bones scene/sound, and released by Florida?s Sky-Fi, the cassette?s thirteen tracks come needled with chintzy synthesizers and dipped in reverb, crashing with an Ariel Pink mad genius, though stuck in some wonderful limbo between painfully simple pop structures and the anti-structure of dark ambient neighbors like Hive Mind and Burial Hex. Drum machines ramble in every direction, and in every configuration; guitars come and go, seemingly tuned then set back down; basslines dread into a funk then relax into broad, warped whir. Vocals are effected until indecipherable, rendering abstract and often obtuse the themes of titles like ?The Thermostat Has Shorted Out?, ?Night Of The Zodiac?, and ?Oh God Make It Stop? - to be read entirely against the music, an often steely gothic of organs, sermoned mutterings, and other loose hairs of modern Americana trash. Strangely it works like magic. Call it ?bright nihilism?." -Jerkwave

Title: Magic Flowers Dubbed
Format: Cass
Label: Jerkwave
Country: USA
Price: $5.00
"A reissue of the ridiculously limited and ridiculously awesome cassette originally released by the UKs great Bum Tapes label. This cassette (originally an edition of 40) brings you more of Psychedelic Horseshits great and completely fucked pop stylings. Featuring the stomper "Catch a Wave" and the re-imagining of Magic Flowers Droned highlight, now titled "Rather Dub." The shining gem on this beaut though is the B-Side. A 10 minute excursion into a Matt Horseshit robotrip titled "Bob Dylans 42nd Annual Report." Beginning with several minutes of outerspace drones that will pressurize your head, it leads to a quiet acoustic folky pop number recorded on top of the chaos. Probably one of my favorite things the Horseshit boys have ever released and now made widely(er) available in America. Edition of 125, pro duped on pink cassettes." -Jerkwave

"With WIZZARD SLEEVE, its so refreshing to hear this druggy, synthy punk delivered by a band that doesnt come off like theyre doing you a favor for sharing their warped genius with you. Theyre legit boneheads having fun, and it shows. Their tune, Setting Fire to Your Loft, ranks among their very best. Also, bonus points for the Calvin and Hobbes pissing on Scion label design. TRUE SONS OF THUNDER are wading in similar waste on their side, their first on vinyl. Featuring a couple high-profile names from Memphis punk elite. TSOTs Butt Bong is a tongue-in-bung noise plod through a total inebriation haze. Spoken vocals a la The Legendary Stardust Cowboy or Ross Johnson, but so fucking absurd you cant help but be impressed. Its booming on AmRep levels, yet falling apart from the moment it begins. Drug-punk rampage spread across two sides. If anything, this record reclaims art-punk from yuppies and brings it back to the punks. Take your wi-fi hummus hobo art space and shove it up your fucking ass." -Mitch Cardwell

"Feted kosmische synthesizer wizards from Cleveland OH, Emeralds, have never had any of their music remixed before. Let alone having the title track from their acclaimed 2010 album reworked (twice) into a floor-filling behemoth by Daphni (aka Dan Snaith aka Caribou). We toured together in 2010 and since then Ive always wanted to play their music in my DJ sets. So I did my own version of this track, says Snaith. Its one of those tracks that whenever I play it I can feel the energy in the room lift. Luckily, Emeralds were equally enthusiastic, and so this unlikely hybrid sees the light of day... or rather, the dark inside of a club." -Jiaolong

Title: The Beethoven Symphonies
Format: 3" CDR
Label: JLIAT
Country: UK
Price: $7.00
"Jliat keeps on pushing the limits of art. The Beethoven Symphonies is a 3" CD with one eight-minute track that can be easily summarized: a low-definition computer voice reads an essay on Beethovens symphonies. The artistic statement resides in the flagrant contradiction between the cheap digital voice, highly artificial, and the analysis of the emotional charge of Beethovens works -- a machine speaks of emotion and the artistically sublime. The listener is surprised at first, then gets the joke and laughs, then gets tired of the gravelly voice. There is no sound treatment, no other sound used, nothing. Just the computer voice and the text itself. Another puzzling release by Jliat." - François Couture, AllMusic.

Title: Sonatas and Interludes
Format: Triple LP Box
Label: John Cage Trust
Country: USA
Price: $152.00
"Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano (1946-48). New recording by Nurit Tilles in a deluxe 3LP (45 rpm) audiophile box set. The release of this limited edition (433 numbered copies) is in honor of John Cages Centennial Year, produced in conjunction with the John Cage Trust. Includes archival material, a 40-page color book with essays, pressed on 200 gram vinyl and slipcase. "If the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 marked the end of the 19th century, then John Cages birth that year represented the start of a new one, musically speaking. Cage created hundreds of works and to my ears Sonatas and Interludes is one, more than any other, that will stand the test of time. Like a Merce Cunningham dance, there is something new to experience with each encounter of this magnificent piece. By my count, there are over 20 recordings of Sonatas and Interludes with each performer (and production and engineering team) bringing something new to the realization. However, this is the first recording of this seminal piece ever presented in a 45 rpm format for the audiophile. It is my hope that listeners will marvel at the breathtaking sonics of the recording, but more than that -- the superlative performance by Nurit Tilles. When Laura Kuhn and I first discussed this project we immediately locked on Nurit. Her preparation and playing is nothing short of magnificent. And as wonderful is her playing, Nurits beautiful spirit comes through with verve in these grooves. A noted filmmaker said there is no history, only historians. This recording is historic." --Anthony B. Creamer III. Performed by Nurit Tilles, piano, at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, Sosnoff Stage March 21-23, 2011. Recording Engineer: Andreas Meyer; Mastering Engineer: Kevin Gray; Creative Direction: Donna Wingate and Naomi Yang." - John Cage Trust. Nurit Tilles has played with Steve Reich (on the original recording of Music for 18 Musicians), David Borden, etc. Very nice packaging designed by Naomi Yang, apparently nominated for a Grammy...

"The music machines of legendary Fluxus artist Joe Jones are a paradox of prepared sounds voicing astoundingly human bursts of free-flight sonic caterwaul. Why is it that a roomful of musicians cant muster the sound of these music machines? The sounds herein could make tears flow like rivers from countless communal bangs. The sounds from this tape are so rare that many historians claim they dont exist. Jones orchestras were debuted on Yoko Onos Fly and he was a curio to the Beatles. Joe Jones left his home in Tucson Arizona, bought some California grass. Not him? Who cares. Bring the Noise." Very highly recommended!

Price: $12.00
"Lajaville revisited: The Billy Boys music is for the visionaries, imagists, symbolists, outsiders and lowbrow. It will survive all the trends. Its in the world but out of this world. Somehow futuristic yet primitive. Lajas eerie and nervous mumble is like a horror version of the late Vince Taylor locked up in a psych ward. This ultra minimalistic electrobilly is backed with a static, almost stoic, beat and its rumbling through the concrete jungle in a shiny black speedoplane heading for tomorrow-land in a silver neon rain. Theres messed up Elvis in his smoking hot blue jumpsuit munching away double cheese burgers with RC Cola. Theres tough looking ladies in latex uniforms and spike heels breathing heavily through their gasmasks. Theres former Finnish President Kekkonen. Bald head gleaming and hes receiving crazy visions behind his big square glasses. Trains, cadillacs, speed. Fingers tapping the leather bound steering wheel. Rural landscape and icy rivers. Nightmares in heat. Homeros would be proud. Tears in the eye of a lonesome man. Future now." - Makke Luojus / 2010AD. Never released, mid-80s solo recordings from Laja Aijala of Finnish hardcore legends Terveet Kadet, as well as Bad Vugums Leo Bugariloves. Weird homemade Suicide/minimal rockabilly electronics. Title: Incredible Hulk
Format: LP
Label: Junior Aspirin
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"A new full length LP by COUNTRY TEASERS frontman BEN "THE REBEL" WALLERS is always something to be savored. The Incredible Hulk is a brooding and brilliant work. Its darkness is punctured by skewed, experimental pop songs. The epic, pitch-black opener "Ambient Pasteman" details childrens TV character Postman Pats relationship problems ("Postman Pat booted out his wife because Postman Pat didnt like his wife") and is followed by the poppier "Cherish" ("we must cherish the drugs we have, for as long as we have the drugs") and the anthemic "Aiming Low, Getting High" (released on 7-inch by Lexi-Disques last year). "Christmas Every Day" is a snapshot of a nightmare-a man talks in earnest about how he celebrates Christmas every day, watching the Queens speech on endless video loops. The voice emerges from monstrous guitar noise and machine gun fire. Wallers satirical brilliance is to the fore with "On My Own"-it has a rather catchy chorus but the lyrics are an interpolation of a popular pedophile joke which then works as an intro for "The Forest"-a psychotic recontextualization of "A Forest" by The Cure. A crackling copy of that record is put on and gets stuck on Smiths familiar vocal "again and again and again"-looping over and over. Is this an acid blast at 60s-80s recycling in the moribund British pop scene, a twisted tribute, or a sick joke? Or all of the above? The Rebel is fucking with us again-thank God. Limited edition of 500 copies. UK import, no exports outside of North America." -Junior Aspirin

"As the essential PERE UBU rhythm section from the 1970s through the early 1990s, SCOTT KRAUSS and TONY MAIMONE collaborated during Ubus early 1980s hiatus as HOME AND GARDEN, where they blazed their own trail of avant-rock-not without some assistance from Clevelands art-rock creme de la creme. "Flim Flam" was originally written by Krauss and JIM JONES (during the sessions that yielded Pere Ubu songs "Come Home," "Kathleen" "Last Will and Testament," and "Fedora Satellite II") although it was never submitted to Ubu for consideration. Its appearance here, with Jones on guitars and keyboards, and KEITH KORNAJCIK handling the vocals and lyrics, is the first. On the flip, "From Blake" showcases the guitar, bass, and sax talents of founding Pere Ubu guitaris TOM HERMAN (who also led the avant-rock power trio TRIPOD JIMMIE with Len Bove). Assembled around LINDA HERMANs performance of a poem by William Blake, the song is a tour de force. Includes free download code." - Jupiterian.

Title: Ragas Of Morning & Night
Format: CD
Label: Just Dreams
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
“At long last, La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela reissue this seminal, hugely influential album on their Just Dream imprint, the legendary recording from 1968 India of Pandit Pran Nath titled Ragas Of Morning & Night. The original studio session was produced in New Delhi, February 1968, by Jimi Hendrix associate Alan Douglas, it features recordings of "Raga Todi" and "Darbari", which showcase Pran Nath at his prime. Pran Naths exquisite control between microscopically fine degrees of pitch can be easily heard in the former. The first two thirds of the piece is performed slowly and delicately, each sinuous line being given careful weight and consideration. When, in the final few minutes, the pace quickens there is a startling sense of unfolding possibilities, almost an embarrassment of riches after the earlier rigour. The second raga follows a similar structure but the tonal center is entirely different; instead of the plaintive almost keening quality of the morning raga, we hear a calmer, more accepting feeling, as though the singer has graciously acceded to what has occurred that day. This time when the tempo picks up its as if the singer has gotten a second wind late in the day and is suddenly full of joyous energy. The effect of Pran Naths quivering lines and immensely complicated vocal arabesques is liberating enough. When he goes head to head with the tabla player for some intricate sparring, ones jaw tends to drop. Ragas of Morning and Night is a wonderful recording and would serve as a fine introduction both to this musician and to this particular style of singing as well.

"He was a living encyclopedia of the ancient traditional compositions," La Monte Young once said. "And he had an extraordinary knowledge of the proper delineation of each raga." Ragas are connected to certain times of day, seasons and other natural and personal associations, and Pandit Pran Nath insisted on performing them at the appropriate times. A living repository of thousands of obscure ragas, many of which have probably become extinct with his death in 1996, Pran Nath devoted much of his later years to teaching. He numbered La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Jon Hassell among his long time students, who were fascinated by pure intonation and microtones and who were pioneers of Minimalism, and through them his unique phrasing and melodic sensibility have filtered into contemporary composition. Additionally, excellent and detailed liners notes by La Monte Young are included.

For a decade and a half, Pran Nath lived in Young and Zazeelas loft for a good part of each year, and the New York night owls were typically required to rise at 3am each day to prepare tea for their teacher, who slept at the other end of the loft. He would then perform his riaz (practice) and give them a lesson - if he chose to.

"He was the head of the household recalls La Monte Young. "We were not allowed to have friends. We had to give up everything - rare ly did we even get to vis i t our parents. He was very protective of us and extremely possessive of us. But we got the reward. The reward is, if you make the guru happy, then you get the lessons." - Just Dreams. Remastered CD edition, 500 copies.

"On this five-song E.P., Brooklyn-based duo Talk Normal drummer Andrya Ambro and guitarist Sarah Register create a nice racket that does a deft job of splitting the difference between harsh sonics and the essential song-oriented structures required of noise rock. Neither a band in which noise is merely a bi-product of a savage attack nor an overtly experimental outfit steeped in this or that high concept, Talk Normal come off as an organic self-contained unit that extracts as much as they can from their explicitly minimal approach. Sure, there are some obvious touchstones here Sonic Youth, Magik Markers, Ut, Teenage Jesus but the songs never feel derivative. Though various sorts of processed sounds work their way in and out of the picture, the bands aesthetic is built on a basic foundation of guitars, drums and vocals. The duo are clearly working within a dark, neo-now wave framework, yet theres some variety, too. They can sound both hyper and dirgey, calling to mind heat-soaked basement shows and cold moldy practice spaces alike. Grinnin in Your Face opens the album and establishes the Talk Normal template, squiggling moans of feedback, a simple lurching riff, and a dual vocal attack all buoyed by frenetic drumming. Eureka then uses a Branca-style guitarscape as foundation for a sing-speak vocal monologue direct from early 80s downtown NYC. Lemonade rides a catchy little groove early on, and then builds to a drum-guitar/freak-out zenith. Perhaps the most curious aspect of these tracks, however, is that despite whatever stabs of sound punctuate the atmosphere, or whatever structural shifts might occur, theres always a simple, repetitive pulse present, not so much an anchor as a telltale heart of suppressed aggression. Even on the sets most distinctive track, the stark finale Rest With Me, theres a tension lurking, played out via a subtle, yet insidious throb. Talk Normal are making their music amidst an increasingly cluttered underground landscape, and the duos seeming intrepidness in the face of that fact shines through. Theyve cultivated their own voice that, when combined with that strange festering energy, should make for solid stuff with each successive release." - Nate Knaebel/Dusted. Released on Little Claws inhouse label. "Mass market" edition of 500 copies, printed covers.

"The Whines 4 song EP paying at 33 is just the thing for this rainy NYC weekday. Maybe they are bringing a little of the overcast Portland to Brooklyn...via the Velvet Underground. It could just be that I saw Adventureland which was really perfect. The music, that time period, first love, getting drunk, mix tapes...everything is really important and at the same time you are completely ridiculous...your world is small and you have no idea whats happening ten feet past your face." -7 Inches Blogspot

"All time godhead monster alert, people! While the Ya Ho Wha 13 tribes psychedelic freakouts and its associated mythos have been much lauded and roundly investigated in hipster quarters over the last several years, there has been a complete absence of discussion about a similar and yet far more advanced spiritual/musical tribe by the name of Arica. Unlike Father Yods teachings though, which were largely limited to those in his tribe, *this* groups philosophy would go on to shape the entire thrust of Alejandro Jodorowskys The Holy Mountain, merely THE greatest motion picture in cinema history. All principal actors appearing in the film were required to undertake a rigorous weeks long preparation in Arica training before filming began. Now add to all of the above this salient detail: despite its American origin, sonically, this is on par with the absolute best krautrock ever recorded! How bout a combination of Dzyan-Electric Silence, Deuter-D, Limbus 4 and the most ethnically tripped passages of Wolfgang Dauners Et Cetera? Does that work for all you heads out there? Side A in particular is getting about as deep "in the pudding" as Ive ever heard any psychonauts venture. Truly...I dont think the vibes coming off this thing could be any heavier unless the sleeve itself had been dipped in a psilocybin bath. Its supernaturally heightened atmosphere is so potently keyed into the cosmos its almost painfully poignant to confront in this age of reduced expectations. I for one am humbled in its presence." - MutantSounds. ORIGINAL copies of this 1971 lp of communal ethno-hippie jams.. Sealed w/cut out holes.

"Possibly the most exciting new band weve seen since moving to the bay area.  Axolotl and Jyrk had an instant bond.  The Ax boys had so much extra material since their Psych-O-Path records debut that it took about a week for these dudes to get us a CDR of some of their best material yet.  I think its better than their debut.  Seriously. These dudes got their chops jamming with the likes of Animal Collective, Black Dice, Mouthus and Double Leopards in NYC before transplanting to the West.  Comparisons to the "NYC PSYCH" sound are not totally unfounded, but Axolotl manage to offer up their own dark cave realm.  Their work reminds me more of "Broken Hearted Dragonflies" and Chris Watson than any New England jammers." - JYRK.

"If any of you are familiar with the Yellow Swans/Axolotl/Gerritt collab CDR, this is a companion.. It was recorded on the same day as the other collab, but it was before we walked over to Gerritts house and told the dude to grab his laptop... we recorded this thing while Karl (axolotl) was still living in oakland in a house that was packed with dark energy... It was Martin Luther King Day and none of us had to work... This, being the first of two sessions, had a really sleepy, early-afternoon vibe that usually hits on a good three-day weekend... The music begins sounding hazy and meditative... Gradually.... things are livened up and the earth starts unfolding... But nothing too rough..... It is a lazy day in the name of a true King afterall....." - JYRK.

"You all may not be familiar with the project, but its William Sabiston of (part-time) Axolotl fame.. Dude is a WILD percussionist whos collaborated with tons of folks, but most recently in a group BULBS.. Im not even sure how to describe this release....... I suppose "freedom techno," a ficticious genre imagined by Roope Eronen, would be some sort of applicable term. William weavs all sorts of percussive sounds; bells, electronic drum pads, synth and acoustic drums into a complex whirl of pulses and clicks that will occasionally congeal into abstract loops, minimalist techno riffs, dub-zones or some sort of cohearance, before whatever beat hes imagined crashes in on itself... Those familiar with Williams solo track on the Axolotl CDR, "Oranur," will have some idea what to expect.. but then, Ive been listening to this thing for months and I still dont know whats happening when I listen to this thing. Limited to 150 copies." - JYRK.

"Piecing this one together meant running deep into the YS haze cloud that was 2005 cassette releases. weve got a bit of all of em on here (23 productions, tone filth, split with Skaters, split with Sex With Girls) and its just a fucking CLOUD. nothing quite as uncompromisingly blissed as Drift, but still totally faded and OMINOUS... More than anything (including the likes of Psychic, and Drift), the tracks on this release have informed the YS sound NOW. Way fewer beats, way more space, WAY WAY MORE SPACE. Tons of drones and zones, weird sounds that I dont even know what made em.. maybe it was the animals in the place we were living/practicing in? maybe it was Gabes power animal rolling out to rock and roll? Unknown. All I know is that there are phantom beasts all over this mess and Im real proud of it! edition of 1000 split release with PacREC" - JYRK.

"We received an anonymous package containing this recording along with an image and a note. The three pieces in this suite were created by processing live radiocoverage of the 2004 presidential election using computer music software. While to some extent, the use of political media materials as source sounds in a work of radical music could be considered pat or outmoded, there was value in this endeavor. The transformative properties of digital signal processing allowed me to uncover the "choral" component inherent in news broadcasts: the anchors form a choir of voices singing in unison, complicit amongst themselves to the authorship whose script they are doomed to read from. The Agency of the newsanchor is limited, or submissive to government and capital, or both. I had concerns that simply processing my radio was not a truly radical platform. That being said, it is an attempt to tear away the fabric of appearances, and some kind of momentary relief was derived from the process. If you dont find this recording sonically or politically persuasive, try using a simple audio processing tool to dissect the media you absorb. You might be more edified by trying the process first-hand." - JYRK. Edition of 50 copies.

"Last time we moved cities, we immediately stumbled onto Axolotl, Thuja and The Skaters.. Now that were back in Portland, theres a lot of familiar faces making totally new sounds.. its not quite the exciting discovery that the totally unknown bay had going for it, but its been great seeing old buddies exploring new territory and to meet new folks who have really made this city their own... Ghosting, along with Ilyas Amhed and Pulse Emitter have all totally got our blood pumping in all sorts of weird ways.. Ghosting drop HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY drones that are extremely dense and constantly evolving at glacial paces, then.. every once in awhile, theyll drop a serious bomb and the piece will take off in all sorts of blissed and baffling directions.. These dudes are practically owning this town right now and this release finds them in TOP form. I cant really recommend this one highly enough. edition of 150" - JYRK.

"The first time I met these dudes, we were playing a show in Vancouver, B.C. and this girl that had been doing yoga on the floor rolled up to me and handed me a CDR with an old pinup playing card sewn to the cover... she said "shes for you... from back when boobs were real...." and then she just rolled off... Shit was totally mysterious.... and the next day, Gabe pulls out his copy of the CDR with this naked dude on it and we put it on... Both of us were totally stunned.. Basically.. it was this CDR by In/Flux called "Hoc-Age." Its total outsider noise if there ever was such a thing.. totally lo-fi and disjointed yelps, guitar skree, lots of unidentifiable things happening... Similar murk to those like The Skaters and Dead C, but the actual identifiable sounds are way different.. maybe something like if the dead C self-titled double disc from a few years back was way more lo-fi and they were super young genderfuckers from canada with a hell of a lot of inspiration and piles of totally shitty gear. "Cryptic Cloak" is a reissue of "Hoc-Age" with additional tracks from the "Metalguests" CDR... (100 copies)" - JYRK.

"As a wee lad.. I would make these treks up to Portland from my smaller home-town down south... Id hit these spots like The X-RAY and THEE O HELL CAFE.. and SUBURBIA.. and catch all these weirdos doing their thing.. I saw Jacike O Motherfucker, Smegma, Daniel Menche.. All the OG motherfuckers here in puddletown..... AND I SAW NOGGIN.. who were probably the LEAST forgiving, MOST PUNISHING slab of skree my virgin ears had heard... SERIOUSLY ROUGH guitar/violin scrapes and feedback.. I still dont have any idea HOW they made all of the sounds they pulled out of those little twigs.... Fast Forward ten plus years, and Im a bit older and making a small racket of my own.. were on tour with Gang Wiz and playing up in bellingham, WA with Noggin.. ALL ARE STOKED. The Noggin bros rock up with no amps and TWO violin cases.. so.. now noggins AS ABRASIVE as ever, but totally acoustic.. Now.. a few years further down the road.. and JYRK is releasing their RETURN to electric playing, which is a great amalgam of their INTENSE electric skree and their acoustic athletics. all smashed up into this lil CDR... edition of 150" - JYRK.

"Man.. one of the first times we rolled down to Oakland, we met up with this dude and his intensely dark steez.. Dude reminded me of my buddies up in Portland who had first told me about "The Temple," which Mr. Sixes calls home.. My friends told me that their show at "The Temple" was one of the most chaotic evenings of their bands career.. tons of smashed glass, fights.... debauch... A fierce mess.. When we finally got to SEE Sixes... or more importantly, when we moved to the bay and got to SEE Sixes a LOT, Dude was REPEATEDLY crushing.. on par with other westen freaks like Wiese and Gerritt.. totally gross intensity.. So.. we bug him to do a release.. and he takes his time.. but... now were finally holding onto this SICK live recording of a set in Seattle from 2005.. Its perfect for JYRK too.. "We love The Skaters..... Seriously.. GREAT dudes. GREAT jams.. We met em about three years ago in San Diego.. When we moved to the Bay, Spencer was camping out in the Mission and holding it down........ It was great reconnecting with the dude and he was wanting to do a YS/The Skaters split tape.. he passed us a double CDR of "OPHA" and "Dark Rye Bread" and we were SOLD. So we did a split tape about six months ago that we sold on our west coast tour with Chuck Bettis that Spencer was along for a bit... We sold all of em on tour and now I find out that the tapes selling on Ebay for $40 or some ridiculous amount. Well.. if you dont mind the digital format.... Heres the music actually made available in a possible-to-order sort of way.... Errr.. The Music?? the YS track is totally odd stumblings and rumblings and the Skaters jam is uber saturated song clatter.. Blissed out scratchings from both units. Back in 200 handmade copies.." - JYRK.

Awhile back, Gabe and I were talking about putting out stuff for our buddies that arent the most obscure bands on the west and Tom was the first on the list.. right up there with Damion Romero, Open City, Loren Chasse......... Total Killers......... Toms a killer..... Umm.. Here hes paired up with Sally from Weird Weeds.. Shes playing guitar too.. and the disc is a totally dense psychic zone out.. probably the heaviest thing from either of these two for ages.. super full and dense guitar bombs. I was totally confounded that I had never seen the dude jam... he was SO GOOD that night in oakland.. jamming a ton of homemade synth gear. I guess Daryls been playing and building synths for YEARS.. So.. I move back to Portland and I keep running into the dude.. EVERYWHERE..
