Title: Live! In Long Beach (October 30, 1974)
Format: DVD
Label: ID Music
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Crazy video documentation (long thought to be lost) of a live show by legendary L.A./South Bay proto-punk unit, The Imperial Dogs. Recorded at Cal State Long Beach the night before Halloween, 1974, fliers for the event promised "an evening of sex, violence, and public outrage," and this 64-minute DVD delivers the goods. Some people may know The Imperial Dogs from the Unchained Maladies LP that Dave Laings Dog Meat Records issued back in 89. A few may even know the 78 single they released through Back Door Man. But neither of those actually prepares you for the amazing visual onslaught of the band. In a year perhaps best remembered for Terry Jacks "Seasons In The Sun," The Imperial Dogs (fronted by wasted, he-man writer, Don Waller) were blasting out originals like "This Aint The Summer Of Love" (later copped by Blue ֹster Cult) and slamming through Velvets covers as though other people on the planet actually cared. The introduction raps are worthy of transcription, the video transfer quality is shockingly good, the sound is great, and the performance is really amazing. Its almost unbelievable that this kind of ruckus was being created in 74, but it was and the evidence is finally available. The package is hep, too. Lotsa good color photos (like Iggy watching The Imperial Dogs playing at Rodneys English Disco -- the only live band there, ever) and thousands of excellent historical words that will place your ass in the ghettos of Long Beach, CA many, many years ago. Really one of the best, least expected slabs of wild history to come down the pike in many a moon. Let us pray a similarly-styled LP will follow before too long. 64 minutes; Mono; black & white; NTSC format, all region; includes a 20-page booklet with notes and rare photos." - ID Music.

Title: Heavy Rain Returns
Format: CD
Label: Ideal
Country: Sweden
Price: $12.00
"Heavy Rain Returns" is a truly monumental album. Recorded in Bushwick, New York City - its an intense trip into harsh noise and electronic sickness. Carlos Giffoni is maybe best known for his great "Welcome Home" record for Important and his curator skills are infamous through his No Fun Fest in Brooklyn which is the worlds most extreme music festival. Prurient is Dominick Fernow who is operating the Hospital Productions label and shop out of a basement in New York. His albums "Black Vase" and the latest "Pleasure Ground" for Load Records are both highly recommended and loved. Here we hear two of the US-noise scenes absolutely most important creators together - and man, its pure energy hitting you hard. Most copies are in the US so hurry to get your copy. The noise is ON!" - Ideal.

Artist: BISHOP, SIR RICHARD
Title: Intermezzo
Format: LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $21.00
"I met Richard in 2004 on a crazy tour in Australia (Oren Ambarchis last What Is Music?). He was a founding member of The Sun City Girls but he came out to play solo. Instantly we were entranced by his playing, so many beautiful elements of why I love guitar come through in his music and presence, without floating around in genre space at all. Here on the road with Kevin Drumm, Dead C, Residents, Gang Gang Dance, Black Dice, etc., amongst this insane line-up, Richard ended up supporting Pan Sonic and really held it down, as a soloist. A few years later, Peter Rehberg and I (as KTL) were invited to join a tour Richard was doing with Earth. His incredible communication of atmosphere and texture was even more fluid than I remembered -- a real pleasure. If the reason to start a record label is to release the music you are truly enamored by, this is a true example of that philosophy." -Stephen OMalley, Paris 2012.

Artist: KANG, EYVIND
Title: Visible Breath
Format: LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $21.00
"Eyvind Kangs tremendous efforts on Sunn O)))s Monoliths & Dimensions album helped elevate the groups presence to a new level creatively and aesthetically. We were fortunate and perhaps even destined to have this crossing. During this period Kang also premiered the pair of pieces presented on side A of this album, Visible Breath and Monodology. I was fortunate to witness an ensemble concert of these compositions titled Grass in Seattle which featured many of the same amazing musicians wed been working with on the O))) record, notably the most respected elders Julien Priester and Stuart Dempster. Their presence was such an honor and also an unpredictable inspiration due to their incredibly rich lives producing new and experimental music. The Grass recording done at the time lay dormant for many years. Its my pleasure to present these incredible compositions to the world through this humble effort. Side B is a new piece recorded in summer 2011 with pedal steel and cello, a beautiful excursion of harmonics, ghost tones, and integral interpretation titled Thick Tarragon. Delicate, enjoyable and translucent as white fields of grass." --Stephen OMalley, October 2011; Ideologic Organ curation and art direction by Stephen OMalley. Stewart Dempster (trombone); Julian Priester (trombone); Cuong Vu (trumpet); Taina Karr (oboe); Timb Harris (violin); Eyvind Kang (viola); Jessika Kenney (voice); Miguel Frasconi (glass); Cristina Valdez (piano); Steve Moore (electric piano); Susan Alcorn (pedal steel guitar); Janel Leppin (modified cello). Mastered & vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, October 2011.

Artist: KENNEY & EYVIND KANG, JESSIKA
Title: Aestaurium
Format: LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $20.00
"Jessika Kenney is a vocalist known for her haunting timbral sense, as well as her profound interpretation of vocal traditions. Eyvind Kang is a violist for whom the act of music and learning is a spiritual discipline. Aestuarium is a meditation on a psalm of lamentation and the unary tone in the metaphor of salt and fresh water, inspired by Gaelic psalmery, Tibetan notational gestures, and the microtonality of the tetrachord. Recorded on the shore of Colvos Passage in 2005 by renowned engineer Mell Dettmer. Stephen OMalley comments: "Amongst many other amazing pieces Jessika & Eyvind collaborated on SUNN O)))s Monoliths & Dimensions album, Jessika leading the choir on the piece "Big Church" and Eyvind composing the acoustic arrangements for "Big Church" & "Alice." I learned an immense amount about music through these collaborations, specifically the idea of Spectral music through research and discussion/reference points of composers such as Grisey and Murail. Aestuarium is a beautiful piece of minimalist spectral music which has brought great pleasure to my ears over the years." Originally released on CD by Endless Records in 2005. Ideologic Organ curation and art direction by Stephen OMalley, manufactured and distributed by Editions Mego." -Ideologic Organ

Title: The Face of the Earth
Format: LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $21.00
"The second beautiful album by the duo of Jessika Kenney -- a vocalist known for her haunting timbral sense, as well as her profound interpretation of Persian vocal traditions -- and Eyvind Kang -- a violist for whom the act of music and learning is a spiritual discipline. All tracks were composed by Kenney (voice, percussion, electronics) and Kang (viola, setar, electronics)." -Ideologic Organ. "The Central Javanese Wangsalan is a kind of riddle (two lines, twelve syllables each, divided 4 and 8 ), sung by the female vocalist on the gamelan, often using images of natural phenomena alongside descriptions of human characteristics, invoking atmospheres of primordial knowledge, humor, heightened sensation, philosophy, with much hidden wordplay and reference." - J. Kenney. "Tavaf" is based on a ghazal by twelfth century Persian Sufi poet Attar (12th c.). Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin October 2012.

Country: France
Price: $21.00
" (MIG) produced by Pro Arte Foundation for JSC "Klimov" Aviation Engines Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia, September 2011. Recording assistant: Vladislav Petrov, producer: Ekaterina Puzankova. "IBM" tracks recorded at EMS Elektronmusikstudion, Stockholm, April 2012. "ONE" tracks premiered at San Servolo, Venezia, Italy, December 2008 together with Anna Kochs "Scratch Memory." Mats Lindström works as a composer and a musician, often with strains of live electronics. He often works with intermedia, scenic elements and visual arts as a complement to the music, and has worked both with music for concerts, theater and dance as well as radio art and sound installations. Formerly an engineer in the electronics industry, Lindstrom has designed and constructed a number of unique electronic musical instruments and apparatuses. Artist: MOSLANG, NORBERT
Title: indoor_outdoor
Format: LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $21.00
"The deep electric rainforest sound atmospheres that the listener will hear on this record was the tip of the iceberg of a rich and elaborate work process. For over 30 years, Norbert Möslang has made installations, sound performances, and music records that are deeply involved in the hidden world of vibrations to convert them into loud sounds and thick textures. Living simultaneously in spheres of inside/outside, micro-vibrations, spatial structures, underground music venues, art galleries, underwater, glass windows, body movement, precise equalizers, insects, microcosms, and electronic devices, Möslang constructs fascinating, untrammeled worlds of both philosophical and physical power." -Ideologic Organ. "I attempted a Voice Crack gig when I was 21 at an experimental noise festival in Fribourg ... Möslang and Voice Crack opened to me both the ways to experimental noise music as well as sound art performance. When looking through the rear-view mirror, its clear that in the late 70s/early 80s, there werent many artists working with harsh noise -- a list of the classics includes The New Blockaders, Whitehouse and Throbbing Gristle in the UK; Hijokaidan, Merzbow, Incapacitants in Japan; NON, The Haters in the States, among only a few others. Since the break up of Voice Crack in 2002, Norbert Möslang enlarged his practice to cover all noise and experimental practices, from lo-fi Everyday-Cracked-Electronics, saturation/overdrive work, performance and improvisation, field recordings and multi layered ambient noise composition. Through interconnecting, heterogeneous everyday objects; linking the outside sound environment into a quiet art museum by fixing microphones to its windows; filming the underwater Venice canal in order to set off neverending imagery flux, allowing a movie to play its own soundtrack by triggering photo-sensors, Möslang proves to our entire nervous system that the world we inhabit is no more than infinite continuum. To talk about indoor_outdoor specifically, again, Möslangs music drives us from nothing to everything. A field recording in a Swiss harbor is then processed and composed in a studio. The second track hot_cold_shield is a collaborative duo with Toshimaru Nakamura, an influential member of the Onkyokei scene in Japan -- a brutal live improvisation recorded at Manif dart in Québec." -Balthazar Lovay, Deborence, September 2012; Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, October 2012.

Title: S/T
Format: Double LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $31.00
Keiji Haino (guitar, vocals & synth), Stephen OMalley (bass guitar) & Oren Ambarchi (battery). Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, April 2012. "Oren Ambarchi has been an active colleague -- we have collaborated on a number of Sunn O))) projects, and also Sunn O)))-related projects, film scores, tours, meals, etcetera over the years. He brought us to Australia for the first time in 2004, we toured Israel with Attila Csihar as Gravetemple Trio in 2006. Oren introduced us to Haino-san in 2006 when Sunn O))) played the FIMAV festival in Victoriaville, Quebec (Oren was in the ensemble on that tour), in a stinky locker room (the venue was a hockey ring). Had no idea what to expect but a few hours later, he was on stage with us. It was one of those what now moments you never imagine happening, having been a fan/follower of Hainos playing, concerts and recordings over the years. Five years later, somehow, we ended up as this trio. Haino, Oren and I were all in Holland for one reason or another and decided to try it. I played bass for the first time on stage with this group. Maybe it shows but the idea was a power trio backing up Haino-san, with a lot of amplification. We have had the chance to repeat the trio twice again so far, and this recording comes from a concert in Paris, November 2011. Its hard to describe the lessons through real-time communication in music with such a master of form, but needless to say, they were much different than what I was expecting and beyond! Proof again that expectations lead to dead ends. Was a most challenging experience in real-time music. I feel incredibly honored to be part of this trio." -Stephen OMalley.

Artist: PHURPA
Title: Trowo Phurnag Ceremony
Format: Double LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $26.00
"This voyage began in the middle of the 1990s in Moscow, when a group of artists and musicians led by Alexei Tegin and based at the legendary Fabrique of Cardinal Art commenced their studies of traditional ritual music, drifting away from the field of contemporary electroacoustic and industrial music with the intent to delve deeper into the ancient musical cultures of ancient Egypt, Iran and Tibet. The original 2003 line-up of the project that emerged as a result was dubbed Phurpa (one of the five tutelary deities of the Father Tantra in Bon tradition), and all the members have carried on with their research in the field of Bon and Buddhist liturgies up to the present day. Before Buddhism reached Tibet, local people had practiced involved shamanic rites derived from various ancestral cults. Later on, circa the VI-IX century A.D., a conflict between the local tradition, namely, the pre-Buddhist religion of Bon (which originates from Central Asia) and Tantric Buddhism (hailing from the North of India) gave birth to a unique cultural phenomenon known as Tibetan Buddhism, which combines an extensive metaphysical corpus and an advanced philosophical system with pristine ceremonial practices that reach down through many centuries. In the X-XI century A.D., the monastic ensemble came into being. It has got a lot in common with the Chinese court ensembles of the Tang dynasty; nevertheless, the Tibetan ceremonial ensemble has preserved its authenticity and kept a large number of primordial elements stemming from the ancient Tibeto-Burmanese music intact to this day. A typical ensemble usually includes a pair of nga drums, several rolmo cymbals and a pair of gyaling oboes, as well as telescopic dunchen horns, dunkar shells and short wandun horns. One of the unique features of the Tibetan monastic choir is a specific kind of overtone chanting, called "rgyud-skad," or the Tantric voice, which is based on the principle of the singers transmogrification during the so-called "chanting meditation." The ritual Tibetan instruments as used by the ensemble include the following: dunchen, gyaling, silnyen, bub, damaru, kanling, nga, shang. The ensemble adheres to the rgyud-skad tradition of Tantric overtone chanting. Stephen OMalley comments: "Russian group led by the contemporary artist Alexei Tegin take on a traditional and ancient form of Tibetan ritual music by the name of Bon. While many familiar aspects will be revealed to the informed listener, the group PHURPA takes the polyphonic singing style to a lower key and a slower pace. Over the course of 4 LP sides, this meditative listen unveils many spectral illusions and invigorating evolutions in sonic possibilities." Originally released on CD by Sketis Music, Russia, 2008. Ideologic Organ curation and art direction by Stephen OMalley, manufactured and distributed by Editions Mego. Phurpa are: Alexei Tegin, Andrei Grekov, Cheslav Merk, Eduard Utukin and Dmitry Globa-Mikhailenko." -Ideologic Organ

Artist: ROZMANN, AKOS
Title: 12 Stationer VI
Format: Double LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $31.00
"Ákos Rózmann (1939-2005) studied at the Bártók conservatory in Budapest and took diplomas in both composition and organ playing at the Liszt Academy. In 1971, he was given a scholarship to study electronic music in Stockholm. His encounter with the electronic tools was a revolutionary experience for him and was to give a whole new direction to his work. Soon he abandoned composition for acoustic instruments and was later to claim that instrumental music had no future. For several years, he earned his living as an organist at St. Erics Catholic Cathedral in Stockholm, often using recordings of organ sounds made in the dead of the night as a source for his electronic works. Rózmann often preferred monumental forms and several of his most prominent works, such as 12 Stationer (trans. 12 Stations) and Mässa (trans. Mass), grew side-by-side over a long period of time. With a few rare exceptions, the conflict between good and evil was the basic theme in his works. The fight went on continuously in arenas and within power relations that would suddenly change. In Rózmanns imagined world, no room was given to chance. Big powers, luminous or dark, would lie behind the most trivial everyday events. A large portion of Tibetan Buddhism gradually infiltrated his Catholic Weltanschauung, and 12 Stationer, composed between 1978 and 2001, is a musical interpretation of the Tibetan Wheel of Life. The last part of the 12 stations, old age and death, is called the celebrators in Rózmanns version (completed in 2001). When asked what sort of celebration he meant he replied: the merriment you hear is false, it is not genuine, it is empty. Dörr Med Tårar (trans. Door With Tears) from 1988-1989 is unmistakeably an homage to Pierre Henry and the title alludes to Variations For A Door And A Sigh. During one of my last encounters with Rózmann, he told me in depth about how Henrys influence was significant in leading him to choose electronic music. He regarded Le Voyage from the Tibetan Book of the Dead to be the most important pioneering piece in the history of electronic music. Ákos Rózmann showed particular devotion to his work during more than thirty active years. During his lifetime he never sought, nor did he win any mentionable recognition. As a true modernist, he didnt compose with an audience or the critics in mind. His mission was to compose for the future. It was his conviction that the mystical energy for compositional work should derive straight from God. It is a truly great thing to witness the publication of this album." -Mats Lindström, Stockholm, February 2012. "lona Maros (soprano), Miklós Maros, Viveca Servatius (voices), Ákos Rózmann (piano and voice). Composed at EMS elektronmusikstudion, Stockholm, by Ákos Rózmann. Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin May 2011. Ideologic Organ curation and art direction by Stephen OMalley." -Ideologic Organ

Artist: SUNN O))) MEETS NURSE WITH WOUND
Title: The Iron Soul Of Nothing
Format: 2LP
Label: Ideologic Organ
Country: France
Price: $31.00
"Repressed. Finally, available now as double vinyl set, this is a must for fans of both of these legendary sonic travelers: Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter twist SUNN O)))s 2000 album ØØVOID inside-out on Nurse With Wounds dissection table. "In 2007 we commissioned Nurse With Wound to re-work the masters of SUNN O)))s second album ØØVOID to be included as a bonus CD on the Japanese reissue of said album released a year later on Daymare Recordings. We dug up the original 2" reels from the 2000 session, had Mell Dettmer bake the tapes, made the multi-track transfers and sent the drive over to IC studios. The initial brief was to hopefully come up with something in the vein of Nurses legendary Soliloquy For Lilith set (my favorite release of the collective). What was returned was way beyond our expectations, completely transformed and rediscovered material, including highlighting formerly obscured vocals of the legendary Pete Stahl (Scream, Wool, Goatsnake). A vast, creepy sonic journey some part drone/depth of SUNN O))), other part concrete weirdness of Nurse, third part just downright out there in surreality and obscure referencing." --Stephen OMalley; Alchemical dialysis at IC Studio November and December 2007. Procedures executed by Steven Stapleton & Colin Potter. Produced by SUNN O))) & Scott Reeder. Ideologic Organ curation and art direction by Stephen OMalley." -Ideologic Organ

Artist: IRENE MOON/ORTHO
Title: Split
Format: Picture Disc 7"
Label: Ignivomous
Country: US
Price: $7.00
"Though the term musical theater often conjures up horrific images of over-acting and lifes foibles resolved in song form, theres no inherent evil in the concept of combining the two. Lexington, Kentuckys Auk Theater offer simple pantomimes with cartoonish props, set to a soundtrack that combines a warped aural accompaniment with diegetic effects that act as guides for the narrative. Irene Moon, the groups founder, takes everyday activities and social interactions (in this case, a visit to the dentist), magnifying the absurd and surreal, to create her otherworldly scenes. On her side of this 7⿝, a split picture disc with New Yorks Ortho, one must imagine the visual aspects of ⿿Auk Dentist⿝ as clued by the music, though, with Moons penchant for the weaving of samples, electronic noises, and isolated vocal recordings, its hard to pinpoint exactly what could be happening. A ringing phone, the ominous sound of the drill, and a voice-over from what was probably a high school psychology filmstrip offer clues, but, in the end, the music neednt rely on the story, and Moons psychedelic pastiche remains just as hypnotic in its purely aural form. Ortho, capitalizes, it seems, on Moons love of entomology, with their contribution to the disc, with plenty of buzzing and flittering sound. Its not hard to imagine the music as the magnified sounds of insects, with the rapid flapping of wings, scurrying feet, and probing antennae. "Ortho demonstrates how humans would benefit by behaving more like insects⿝ is a title thats almost longer than the groups side of the slab, but its a useful guide when it comes to listening to Orthos buggy noise." - Adam Strohm (FakeJazz).

"Chris Sienko made me want this when he described how for a while he played this record every morning at 7AM when he got up for work and read e-mail. If you know what Sukora does -- ultra-quiet sound stuff -- that might make sense to you. Kinda puts you in that meditative early morning zone, yknow? The cool thing about Sukora is that he doesnt sound like hes doing it digitally at all, just like literally rustling paper a few feet away from microphone. You know how he listed his instrumentation in Muckraker #9: "I use old cassette recorders, paper, destroyed Macintosh, old records players, and something." You can pretty easily miss this LP while its on. In fact, the first time I put it on in the morning before work, the coffee maker alone was drowning it out. Then the heater kicked on and it was all over. So you might wanna find just the right setting in which to spin it. Try it right after the Screaming Mee-Mees!" - Blastitude: Issue 12, 2002.

Artist: KING BLOOD
Title: Eyewash Silver
Format: LP
Label: Ignorant Gore
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Little anonymous fuzz guitar rudiment blowdown from ex-Snake Apartment guitarist Ryland Wharton (also the man behind the excellent Skulltones and Twonicorn labels). As King Blood, he lays down eight instrumental four-trackers rendered over a three-year period, nothing but guitar, bass and cymbal to keep time, and in that space the artist gets real, with simple themes repeated in a noisy, low-rent, yet meditative space. For as thick as these vibes get, the music itself is not necessarily aggressive, which is why these big, billowing songs sound gentle and bluesy and introspective, even in the overblown treatment most of them receive. Early Wooden Shjips or the Purling Hiss LP (and above all, Les Rallizes Denudes) would be good signposts for this album, but without the obvious psych moves like wah-solos and acid burn motifs, or the heavy drumming to keep time; King Blood wants to get you down by volume, and in that it is a drifting, uncompromising, diffuse and very loud success. 100 copies for this world, in paste-on sleeves – a few contain a silkscreened design on Stonehenge paper that was allegedly runoff from a gallery exhibition held earlier this summer. Those are signed and numbered as well. (availability? ask the angels…)" -Doug Mosurock. 1 per person.

Cut in 1975, Birth/Speed/Merging was the bands highest end production to date and their final recorded act. The mood was celebratory, carnivalesque and wholly in the groove. Features the burning classic Black Man & Woman Of The Nile. Remastered from the original source tapes. 180 gram virgin vinyl pressing." -IKEF

"There were spirits in that recording studio! I remember a feeling of spiritual strength while we were recording! Images and sounds reverberating off the walls! - Idris Ackamoor. Though only a year had passed in the time between the fierce abandon of Lalibela and 1974s King Of Kings, it signaled a monumental shift for the band. By 1974, the core Pyramids continued their musical odyssey with their Lalibela collaborators -- percussionists Hekaptah, Marcel Lytle and saxophonist Masai -- while welcoming drummer-in-exile Donald Robinson back to the Pyramids Midwestern American family. Inspired, the group set to shape a set of compositions that most fully realized -- in form, feel & reflection -- their African passage. On a spring day in 1974, the Pyramids went into a remote 16-track studio called Appalachia Sound Recording hours from Antioch in Chillicothe, Ohio -- the site of ancient native Indian burial mounds -- and, with no less intensity than before, cut a warm and infectious spiritual jazz masterpiece -- King of Kings -- in a day and headed back to Antioch that night. Exact repro of the ultra-rare private issue LP on the bands Pyramid Records label. Remastered from the original source tapes. 180 gram virgin vinyl pressing." -IKEF

"We were playing music to burst out of our bodies. Extremely free! Extremely intense! -- Idrissa Ackamoor. The Pyramids came together in the feverish expat climate of Paris & Amsterdam in 1971 where the three Antioch classmates -- Idrissa Ackamoor, Margo Ackamoor and Kimathi Asante -- hooked up with drummer Donald Robinson and began to flesh out their own brand of musical freedom, but it was the subsequent pilgrimage back to Africa that proved to be the young musicians creative awakening & truly set their brand of spiritual jazz apart from the pack. Cut just months after their return to Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1973 with kindred players jumping in on the session, Lalibela is an urgent, beautiful & massive two track suite of propulsive Afrodelic cosmic earth groove. Title: Backworld
Format: LP
Label: Ikuisuus
Country: Finland
Price: $19.00
"Second album from Belgian synthscaper Hans Dens, following up the highly acclaimed Future Life LP from 2010 (Aguirre Records). While being rooted in the Belgian underground alongside acts like Orphan Fairytale and Dolphins Into The Future, Innercity brings a more dystopic and bleak approach to the table with its monotonous and rhythmic set of sounds. 6 tracks. Recorded August 2010 in Antwerp. Mastered by Viktor Ottosson. Edition of 300 copies. Co-release with Release The Bats." - Ikuisuus.

"[Innercity] reflects biological diversity in spirit form, beautifully shifting from one amorpha to the next via repetition and mutation, like spirits basking in the Coptic glow of life before consciousness." - Daniel Lopatin, Oneohtrix Point Never.

Title: Puheluja Pimealta Puolelta
Format: LP
Label: Ikuisuus
Country: Finland
Price: $22.00
"Cream, Traveling Wilburys, Humble Pie, Susi-Unto... all supergroups have their stories to tell. Jussi Lehtisalo (Circle, R䴴 Lehtisalo, Pharaoh Overlord, Steel Mammoth etc.) got to know Janne M䫩-Turja and Raine Liimakka - the elastic rhythm section of Can Can Heads and Valse Triste - a couple of decades ago, but it is only now with Susi-Unto that they have ended up making music together in the same band. The original idea for the trio was to play some punk but the end product is something far more rough and multi-faceted. Puheluja pime䬴䠰uolelta was recorded during one intensive weekend. The album is harsh on the surface and frayed at the edges, but may contain traces of surprising sensitivity - crushing brutality meeting tranquil vocal melodies, the beauty meeting the beast. Puheluja pime䬴䠰uolelta is only available on 12" vinyl. Susi-Unto has plans to record some more music before the end of the year. Co-released by Full Contact, Ikuisuus & Karkia Mistika. 142 copies." - Ikuisuus.

"More mysterious electro-acoustic Finnish psych-folk. Dont hear too many lyrics on this one, but as would be expected, the titles are all in the native tongue, so Im not sure whats going on. But as with Kemialliset Ystavat and similar artists, theres a playful mix of broken-sounding synths, acoustic instruments, bird calls, small percussion, and plenty of other exotic sounds. For whatever reason, side 2 grabbed me a lot more than the first. I think its a little more straightforward, rhythmically, and theres also more of a Boards Of Canada distorted childhood memory vibe to it. Its quite pretty. As a whole, though, the album isnt quite as energetic, schizophrenic or densely constructed as Kemialliset Ystavat, but its definitely worth checking out if youre into that style." - Paul Simpson, Foxy Digitalis.

Title: The Red River
Format: LP
Label: Immune
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"The Red River is the fourth solo offering from Portland, Maines Micah Blue Smaldone and the first to be released on Chicago label Immune. Heres what Micah has to say about it: Rather than construct a thick frame of reference for this new album, Id prefer to describe simply where Ive come from in the past few years, and then let this music speak for itself. My first solo effort, 2003s Some Sweet Day, was a collection of ragtime and country-blues, a fervently authentic homage to great influences -- John Jackson, Blind Blake, Robert Wilkins, etc., who all helped me through some tough times. 2005s Hither and Thither was much more internal, an urgent telling of germination in a harsh climate. This new one reaches a little further both into the past and the future. The title is borrowed from Red River Blues, an old chestnut that goes which way, which way do that blood red river run? From my back window home to the rising sun. I suppose this is the big theme of the album - Never fight evil as if it were something that arose totally outside of yourself. It is simple faith in the goodness of people, the depth of love, and the infinite wisdom of nature, which allows for this path to be cut with patience, humility, and an eagerness to share. So let this album be a little way-mark, and never a hitching post." -Immune.

The Ring of the Rise continues Micahs relentless efforts to mine future truths from the past, this time hauling out a slab of marble spanning the 1950s through the 1970s, veined with slapback echoes, plate reverbs, tube equipment, and hefty old American iron. The sounds are both new and familiar, tugging at a collective consciousness particular to our era, where the past clamours for reconciliation with the future. Includes download card." -Immune.

Title: Neon Pibroch
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Astral Social Club is the current project of Neil Campbell, formerly of Vibracathedral Orchestra, Sunroof!, A Band and many more. Campbell has been active since the early 80s, and The Wire magazine has said that, along with his friends Richard Youngs and Matthew Bower, he provided the map co-ordinates for much of what passed for a post-punk UK underground during most of the 80s and 90s. Campbells approach as Astral Social Club could be seen as both a continuation and a refutal of his work with Vibracathedral Orchestra - a continuation in that it continues the quest into the unknown stellar regions of improvised drone-based music, and a refutal in its espousal of most of the elemental organic rock modes that made that band so special. The focus here is more on alien electronics and overloaded loop disorientation." -Important.

"Live At Muryoku Muzen Temple is limited to 500 copies. This is the companion release to the Astro CD titled The Echo At The Purple Dawn, released on Important Records. Astro, of course, is the analog/space project of Hiroshi Hasegawa of the legendary Japanese group, C.C.C.C. This limited vinyl-only release was created using ring modulator and vocals which are rare these days in Astro recordings. Cover art designed by Important. Astro is Hiroshi Hasegawas solo project. He is a founding member of the Japanese noise group C.C.C.C. Born in 1963, Hasegawa began his improvisation with his voice and drums. In 1990, he built the group C.C.C.C. around the concept of improvised mass-noise with a very loud sound. Members included Mayuko Hino, Ryuichi Nagakubo, Fumio Kosakai. Hasegawa began his solo unit Astro with analog synthesizers in 1993 and continued playing in C.C.C.C. Though C.C.C.C. is no more, Hasegawa has continued with Astro and his numerous collaborations drifting between dreamy, spaced-out bliss and full-on waterfalls of beautiful noise." - Important

Title: Tones/Zones
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Bitchin Bajas is the solo project of Caves Cooper Crane. Coopers skillful use of melody within his elastic electronic tones is matched by his ability to mix it all (much like he does with Cave) so that theres a lot of sound but even more space and separation between the sounds. Tones/Zones was pressed in an edition of 500 copies. Through some sort of cosmic serendipity, Important is releasing Tones/Zones at the same time as J.D. Emmanuels classic Wizards LP from 1981. There are some interesting parallels between Tones/Zones and Wizards. Both artists have a firm grasp of sound without wading too deeply into the blissful waters of new age melody. Both used an organ and a similar assortment of analog synths and both used the same Tascam reel-to-reel tape machine for their recordings. Though nearly 30 years separate, theyre both generously offering you the opportunity to dive deeply into their own private tones & zones. Enjoy." -Important.

Artist: BLACKSHAW & LUBOMYR MELNYK, JAMES
Title: The Watchers
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"The Watchers is a historic collaboration between Lubomyr Melnyk and James Blackshaw. These new pieces are being released as a CD/LP with material exclusive to each format. LP is pressed in an edition of 500. I first met Lubomyr Melnyk at a festival called Hea Uus Heli in October 2008. We were both scheduled to play that day and I was very excited to see him perform. Before the show I bought several LPs from him and mentioned as much. Lubomyr (more than modest and courteous, as he always is) asked me what I was doing at the festival and I replied that I was also performing at the festival a little later, to which he responded "Ill come and watch you," before being ushered into the hall to play one of the most staggeringly sonorous and beautiful sets Ive ever heard. It was overwhelming, full of pathos and I left the hall with those incredible overtones hanging in my ears for hours. A couple of hours later, I was onstage when I glanced up and saw Lubomyr, true to his word, stood in the audience watching me attentively. I felt incredibly nervous. Its not everyday you get to play for someone who has greatly inspired and influenced your own music. After the show, I packed up my guitar and came out to meet the crowd. The first person who greeted me was Lubomyr: friendly, full of enthusiasm and keen to hear about my music, my processes, the way in which I made music. Yet again, I was overwhelmed - for very different reasons. "You have invented continuous music for guitar!" We all met at the Vortex Jazz Cafe around midday. We set up, Lubomyr at the grand piano, me directly facing him with my 12-string guitar and began. I would retune at random between songs and together we would find interesting chord progressions, hints of melodies and ways in which to weave those immense overtones that Lubomyr is able to generate on the piano with those of my guitar. No more than two takes per song. Improvisation, spontaneous composition, whatever you want to call it. Either way, it truly felt as if the piano and guitar were as one -- inseparable, parts of a bigger whole, a means by which for two people to make one sound. It never felt forced and never less than engaging. Lubomyr was always humble, jovial and open to ideas. The whole session lasted six hours." -James Blackshaw, October 2012.

Title: Holly EP
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"British composer-guitarist James Blackshaw returns with this limited edition 12" EP. The two intimate and introspective pieces collected here were written and recorded during the first three months of 2011, during a break after an intense year of touring and the release of his eighth album All Is Falling. In many ways, these songs more closely resemble his earlier work, with swirling, cyclical acoustic 12-string and nylon string guitar (a first for Blackshaw) being the focal point of the compositions. Charlotte Glasson also contributes some beautifully restrained clarinet, saxophone, flute and violin playing to the proceedings. There are echoes of French Impressionist composers Satie, Debussy and Ravel in the song Holly, while Boo, Forever even sees a nod to the Takoma guitarists which first enthused and inspired him to start fingerpicking a decade ago, but - more than anything - the sound is unmistakably Blackshaws own and ranks among some of his finest and most beautiful work yet." - Important.

Title: O True Believers
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"When UK native James Blackshaw plays his 12-string, something spiritual takes place. This unassuming 23 year-old is transformed into a guitar god whose name belongs alongside the likes of Jack Rose, Steffen Basho-Junghans, and Glenn Jones. Making instrumental, solo, acoustic music that remains consistently interesting and moving is a difficult task. Yet, time after time, Blackshaw hits out of the park, constantly breaking boundaries in what could be conceived as a somewhat limited medium. O True Believers is the latest in a string of impressive releases, all with their own mood and inspiration." - Important.

Artist: BRETHREN OF THE FREE SPIRIT
Title: The Wolf Shall Also Dwell With The Lamb
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
"Brethren of the Free Spirit are guitarist/composer James Blackshaw and lutenist/composer Jozef van Wissem. Named after a cult of 13th-century Northern European religious heretics, this duo play with an appropriately zealous intensity. It consists of 4 long circular compositions in which the duo employ all methods of contemporary performance styles to free the lute and merge the two instruments. Intentionally recorded in mono, its occasionally impossible to tell the two instruments apart. Perhaps thats just what makes this duo so successful -- the players and the instruments become unified in historical references to the musics of both the ancient lute & contemporary acoustic guitar." -Important

Artist: CARTER & ROBERT HORTON DUO, TOM
Title: Lunar Eclipse
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Lunar Eclipse was culled from over 30 hours of recordings taking place, inadvertently, on the equinox, lunar eclipse and winter solstice of 2004.The duo of Tom Carter (Charalambides) and Robert Horton sound as if they are channeling the natural power of these significant calender days into the music. They both noticed something special was happening during the initial recording session when they looked at a clock and realised that theyd been playing for over 5 hours. Throughout the album Carter slowly plays louder and more powerfully than usual over drone-master Robert Hortons organic & electronic chimes, drones, jangles, dangles and splendor. The result is a vast, expansive sound cavern full of hidden melody, slow drones, textured tribal gong and hidden mystic rhythm." - Important.

Shots At Infinity 1 (the CD) is comprised of recordings from various basements in the northeastern USA from late 2007. Tom Carter is a guitar player best known for his work with acclaimed psych-drone iconoclasts Charalambides. Since 2000, however, he has become increasingly active as not only a solo artist but as a collaborator. He has performed with improvising musicians as diverse as Thurston Moore, Jandek, Tetuzi Akiyama, Matt Valentine, and many others, as well as being a key member in groups like Badgerlore (with Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance), Friday Group, Mudsuckers (with Robert Horton and the Yellow Swans), and Zaika (with Marcia Bassett of the Double Leopards and Hototogisu). Carters solo work covers a lot of territory, but latter-day sightings show him to be concentrating on looped guitar drones of immensely stacked beauty, with heaps of psychedelic melodic content missing from the repertoires of many noise and drone bands. His influences include everyone from LaMonte Young to David Crosby."-Important

"Limited edition of 400. Handmade letterpressed covers. Deceh is a fine drone quartet utilizing traditional ethnic drone instruments as well as vintage analog synthesizers. This record was recorded on a centered room microphone as the group sat in a perfect square around it. This method of recording perfectly captured the focused intimacy of the moment, complete with the crackling bellows of an ancient harmonium. Bringing strict discipline, control and patience, theyre able to achieve densely transcendental focus in their work. Imagine taking three notes from Terry Riley and stretching them out into pulsating 20 minute sublime pieces. An obvious reference point might be the Yoshi Wada Earth Drones reissues but somehow even more transcendent. Fine drone. Acoustic & analogue. Deceh." Title: Retreat, Return, Repose
Format: Triple CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $46.00
"Edition of 1000. This deluxe three CD set presents Elehs Retreat, Return, and Repose together for the first time. The LPs were originally available via Important Records mailorder only. Retreat is a collection of exploratory sound assemblages put together during a cabin sojourn. New timbral richness, tonal expansion and deep synthesis make these pieces rather different from previous work. Return reflects on time away. Repose contains only one piece, the final recording of Circle Two: Coastal Rotation for Dune Loop which was debuted at 2010s Mutek festival in Montreal. This piece completes the Retreat/Return trilogy with Repose and is intended to stand very much on its own. Rain on your hood. Your heart beats. A beach break roaring in the distance. Isolated pines are played by the wind. A fine spot for repose. You turn around and head home." -Important.

Title: Empty Summer Endless/Feel Free Installation
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
Second pressing. "Split release including a new twenty minute piece from Eleh and the installation version of Duane Pitres beautiful new composition, Feel Free. Letterpressed jackets. Feel Free is a new composition by Duane Pitre that currently has three possible manifestations: solo performance, group performance, and sound installation. At the core of all of them is the pillar of the work, an open yet orderly system whose intention is to produce potentially infinite variations of self-generating rhythm and melody. This system is created in part by a Max/MSP patch, designed by the composer, which consists of two (unprocessed) sound sources: guitar harmonics and simple-timbre electronic tones (in the solo/group versions, the latter are performed by the composer). Where the solo and group versions find the work following a sequence of movements (each embodying a varying feeling) that consist of different pitches and rules/methods for the group to execute them, the installation version (which occupies a side of this record) is void of any performers and is meant to embody a certain stillness. And while the listener may become familiar with what seem to be recurring patterns, no sounds are ever looped, but are rather continually moving forward, yet still remain suspended." - Important.

Title: Mind Of No Mind/Event Locations
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"Numbered edition of 500. Jackets letterpress printed at 43rd Parallel Letterpress. Split release between Ellen Fullman & Eleh. By examining the waveform produced by the Long String Instrument through a spectrum analyzer, I have observed that every overtone of the fundamental being played is represented nearly equally through the entire range of hearing. Just intonation, a tuning system based on pure ratios, lends itself to a consideration of not only precise tuning of fundamental frequencies, but in addition, precise alignment of the resultant matrix of relationships among the upper partial tones. Strings vibrate in mathematical subdivisions of the total string length. As the performer moves through these subdivisions or nodal points, while bowing with rosin-coated fingertips, partials associated with that location emerge. Thus, musical events on my instrument can be aligned in time and space to coincide with specific overtone combinations." -Ellen Fullman

Title: The Beauty Of The Steel Skeleton/Drifting Depths
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
Numbered edition of 760. "Important Records is quite pleased to be presenting this split release consisting of two new drone works from Pauline Oliveros and Eleh. Oliveros, an early American minimalist who has pioneered the technique of deep listening, has created a new work exclusively for this release. Drifting Depths is a new improvised piece made on a harmonica being processed through Paulines Expanded Instrument System. Elehs side, also exclusive to this vinyl only release, is super slow melodic drone full of stillness, tension and relief. Vinyl only, handmade and handassembled, letterpressed jackets. Limited edition. A central figure in post-war electronic art music, Oliveros is one of the original members of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (along with Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender, Terry Riley, and Anthony Martin), which was the resource on the U.S. West Coast for electronic music during the 1960s. The Center later moved to Mills College, where she was its first director, and is now called the Center for Contemporary Music. Oliveros often improvises with the Expanded Instrument System, an electronic signal processing system she designed, in her performances and recording. Eleh was formed to specifically to pay tribute to early experimental minimalist pioneers especially La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros and Charlemagne Palestine. Using an enormous vintage modular analog synthesizer, a battery of glowing HP tube test oscillators and occasionally guitar/piano, Eleh creates highly minimal and deeply spiritual pure analog drone music with emphasis on the physical ultra-low end. "Essential limited edition 180 gram vinyl release, pressed in an edition of 500 copies. Letterpressed jackets. Beautiful drone compositions from two kindred musical entities. Elehs pure analog drones are a perfect compliment to Sun Circles ecstatic high volume compositions. Elehs track is a slight departure from the sub-sonic bass heavy drones of their first two records. This time around, theres more emphasis on a glistening shimmer paying tribute to the natural beauty of a winters day. Recorded using vintage modular analog synthesizers and glowing tube oscillators, Eleh pays tribute to 60s minimalism. Sun Circles Important debut is psychoacoustic minimalism meets psychedelic maximalism. Ecstatic high volume drones, long-form trance music and peace noise. "With so much being made of current practitioners of the kosmische/New Age vibe, heres your opportunity to hear an original. Copies from the original pressing rarely surface and even the 2007 repress (which sounded quite thin) commands quite a fee on internet auction sites. This straight analog pressing sounds as close to the original master tapes as you can get. 500 made. Pressed at RTI." - Important. "Wizards was my first deep trance electronic music album. This album was inspired by Terry Riley , one of the earliest people ever to compose and perform long, extended, cyclic pieces in the electronic format. This music was composed and performed in 81 and 82. I consider this album my best work. The instrumentation is three Sequencial Circuits PRO-1s, Crumar Traveler One and a Yamaha SK-20, all real time recording to a Teac 4-track reel-to-reel. I mixed the four tracks to a Teac A-7300 Master 2-Track tape recorder using a DeltaLab DL-2 to create the delay track. In 2006, I used a Tascam 34B 4-track to remaster all my master tapes to digital master of 196 KHz/24 bit .WAV files using Soundforge 8 software. The original Wizards LP was published in the Summer of 1982 with the black and white cover. The initial tracks had no names and were called Movements I-V. Several years later sales had slowed down. In an effort to improve sales we tried the color cover and I created names for each track..." - J.D. Emmanuel.

Fahey creates a stark, naked sound which is 100% Fahey at its core. Title: The Mill Pond & Collected Paintings
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"The Mill Pond was originally released in 1997 as a double 7" that went immediately out of print. For its 10th anniversary, were issuing it on compact disc housed in a deluxe letterpressed jacket and including an extensive booklet collecting John Faheys paintings for the very first time. Limited edition. On this release, Fahey uses heavy reverb, electric slide and feedback to create an eerie mood. He gets a bit of help from Jeff Allman, who recorded the songs and adds some electronic noise in spots, and from Scott Colburn, who mixed the tracks, but this record is all Fahey. The Mill Pond is all over the place stylistically, so it should confuse those who try to pigeonhole Fahey into any one category. The Mill Pond further proves that there is only one category into which he fits: truly innovative guitar genius. Four ecstatic, lo-fi grabs for the ring of eternity, recorded in Faheys Oregon hotel room. Containing the first graspable evidence of Johns throat-singing abilities, this represents the merging of the bull and the china shop. The crudity of the electronics and the delicacy of the stringwork makes for a wonderful match." --Byron Coley

"Out of Norway comes the most exciting noise LP Ive heard to date. These two women romp thru stimulating noise compositions fresh and clean w/ a distinct Scandinavian frost. But theres always an undercurrent of warm embrace, sweet and masterful. -- Thurston Moore. Already an incontestable figure of the Scandinavian music scene, Maja Ratkje follows the release of her stunning first solo album, Voice (Rune Grammaphone), with Fe-Mail. A compulsive musician who, beside her main activity as part of all-female avant-garde free-improvisation quartet Spunk, is, at only 29, a lecturer in composition at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, a world-renowned contemporary composer, an impressive singer and accomplished musician. Together with fellow Spunk-ette Hild Sofie Tafjord, Ratkje improvises with analogue electronic gear, samplers, voice, harmonica, and miscellaneous acoustic instruments to shape a more defined and delicate, if such a word can in any way define the realm in which Fe-mail evolve, series of soundscapes." - Important.

Price: $21.00
"Limited edition of 300 copies in a heavy stock screen printed jacket. Numbered. "A Zamuro is a dark South American vulture of great size. Zamuro is also a solo composition piece for portable synth and analog filter. Side A on this LP is a live realization of this piece recorded at the Compound in San Francisco in 2006 (mastered by Lasse Marhaug). Carlos composed and performed this piece live on several tours in the U.S./Europe/Japan all throughout 2006 and 2007, if you saw him live in those two years, this is the piece he performed. This was the most complete version of it that made it to tape. Side B is a studio piece recorded live on a much larger modular synth, based around the same theme, but with structural and tonal variations not in the original composition. This is pure psychedelic electronic music. Cover illustration by Megan Ellis. Screenprinted at Monoroid." -Important

Title: Floating Japanese Oof! Gardens of the 21st Century
Format: Double CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Floating Japanese Oof! Gardens Of The 21st Century was originally released on the De Stijl label in 2005, spread out over 3 LPs in hand glued packaging featuring colorful prints of Matthew Bowers compelling artwork. To date, this remains a singular release in the Hototogisu discography. The original press info from the always interesting De Stijl label says it all: The Hototogisu is one of several pieces of Japanese cuckoo. Since the song of the Hototogisu traditionally signaled the arrival of Japanese summer, it was as eagerly awaited as the trimming of La Monte Youngs nose hairs. The text of this piece likens the long-awaited first notes of the bird to the arrival of ones lover. The compositions on Floating Gardens are mainly narrative in style and more dramatic in character than Anthony Moores drooping bamboo shaft. However, also contained are light and lyrical pieces which will touch the sentiments of the people of this time as deeply as Terry Rileys toes are dug in the sand. The package is impressive! A kaleidoscope of color as flamboyant/indulgent as Charlemagne Palestines brandy-sogged teddy bears and when Floating Gardens meets your gaze, youll be as bug-eyed as Phil Glass." - Important.

Title: Ghosts of the Sun
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"The Hototogisu masterfully create a dense sediment of Teutonic drone with the thickest layers of guitar, vocals and electronics. The Hototogisu are obviously seasoned sonic travelers, featuring the seminal legend Matthew Bower (Skullflower, Sunroof!) and Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards). Ghosts Of The Sun is one enormous composition, nearing two hours in length, unfolded and nailed together in seven movements. Starting with a slow drone electronic crawl and climaxing with crackling bone percussion buried howls of haunted minds, Ghosts Of The Sun cries out from beneath an earthquake of guitar feedback and distortion. Ghosts Of The Sun compresses eternity, from the creation of humanity to its own destruction, into seven parts on one double album. This is epic and total sonic overload, by way of The Hototogisu." - Important.

"Limited edition of 700 copies. Double LP pressing housed in a gatefold jacket. Being a Nabokovian and visceral garden of delights, a musical evocation of memory and desire spread over four sides of vinyl. The sound is conjured forth from dark wells to be birthed, twisting and screaming in silver winds. Recorded at Black Dirt Studios, over an intensive three-day period of hermetic isolation, while snow blanketed the surrounding fields, this work is both more detailed and conjures a heavier, more brooding occult atmosphere and sound, than any previous Hototogisu release." -Important

Title: Around The World With Henry Jacobs
Format: Double CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Absurd folklorist Henry Jacobs returns with a selection of rare interviews, odd loops, sales pitches, early synthesizer demos, an ether-infused evening, and more! Produced in San Francisco and New York City, Around The World With Henry Jacobs is a travelogue that continues the story begun with The Wide Weird World of Henry Jacobs, mixing archival material from the 1950s with recent improvisations by Jacobs. Guests include Stan Freberg and Dr. Irwin Corey, with Alan Watts returning for a visit, too. Also included is special bonus disc -- First Night, one of the true gems from the collection. Recorded in February 1957 by Henry Jacobs on the opening night of the Poetry/Jazz Series at The Cellar in San Francisco, this unique document captures the first time Kenneth Rexroth and Lawrence Ferlinghetti read their poetry to jazz in this very intimate setting. In contrast to Fantasy Records Poetry Readings in the Cellar, you feel yourself a part of the audience here, moments punctuated with a register ringing, muted conversations, laughter, and clinking glasses. Includes Rexroth reading Between Myself And Death and She Is Away, and Ferlinghetti reading The World is A Beautiful Place." -Important.

Format: CD/DVD
Label: Important

Price: $17.00
"2010 repress, originally released in 2005. Henry Jacobs is a sound artist and improviser par excellence. His influential recordings as well as collaborative projects resonate with an irreverent sense of humor and a love for musics of the world. From the early 1950s into the 1970s, Jacobs experimented with tape music, staged the early surround sound and visual spectacle Vortex (with artist Jordan Belson), and developed an array of absurd characters that would pop up as crank callers, relaxation coaches, or upside-down smiling instructors. A contemporary of Ken Nordine and Lenny Bruce, Jacobs honed an individual style that was droll and laid-back but winked at you at the same time. On his recordings for Folkways, World Pacific, and Fantasy, as well as on his private label MEA, the world of Jacobs is an audio collage that embraces many cultures and sensibilities. This CD/DVD collection pays homage to Jacobs creative play, presenting recovered and restored audio as well as rare animated films that will give you a taste of this mans special talents." - Important.

"More than seventy years since his death in 1937, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan retains his reputation as one of the greatest singers India ever produced. Possessed of an elastic, honed voice that poured out like mercury, he influenced generations of singers including Mohammed Rafi, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, and Pandit Pran Nath. Born at the end of the 19th century to a family of musicians that extended back in time for centuries, his art was formed in the culture of the courts of the maharajas under British colonialism but was changed by his genius and imagination and a life marked by sacrifices for love, unsatisfied ambition, abandonment and heartbreak. "The new LSD March album, Under Milk Wood, is their first full length since 2007s Constellation Of Tragedy for Important Records. With grace (in the rock sense), style, humor & the perfect touch of heavy riffage this tremendously unique and original recording is a classic of the new Japanese underground. Recorded at Black Snowflake Studios in Japan, Under Milk Wood is a fascinating ghostly rock album full of clean untreated restraint, as a grounded calm compliments Takahashi Ikuros drumming. It isnt until midway through the record that the heavy riffage begins to slowly become buried beneath the white blizzard blanket that is the remainder of the album. Much critical praise awaits this fine album and its likely to become your favorite snow-storm record, too. Let the electric snow fall." -Important

Any mention of Major Stars tends to send some scurrying for the most obscure psychedelic references, but one need look no further than the Who or Cream to find the primary ingredients of melodic songwriting combined with an over-the-top instrumental assault. As a few noticed, the title of their last album Return to Form wasnt entirely intended to be tongue-in-cheek. Their music seems to be more psychedelic era than psychedelic, and they themselves like to just be thought of as a Rock group (early 70s capitalization intact). But there has always been something different about their arrangement of common influences compared to their contemporaries, and over the past fifteen years they have developed a loyal base of followers who seem to quite like the way they put things together. So Major Stars continue to put it together, like on this one: Decibels of Gratitude, from them, to you." - Important

The fourth release in our simultaneously released four part Bardo Pond related vinyl set. We Suishou No Fune and Alasehir played in East Coast tour of one week together again in the autumn, 2007. During the autumn concert tour, we had felt like that Moon always chased us. I started to look for where the moon was unawares when we visited each town. I have strongly remembered that the moon was full and very clear cut one night in Boston. The night was very pleasant and let us relax. Michael, John and Jason had a good conversation comfortably, looking at the moon. Kageo and myself also enjoyed the night to be just eased under the moonlight. I believed that we, Suishou No Fune and Alasehir could be one band under this special moonlight. The next day, I spoke my wish to perform music in one band to the members and we, all fall in each other in Providence. Therefore, the Japanese and American band named Moon Phantoms based on the concert tour with the full moon. And Moon Phantoms made the concert tour in the East Coast of the U.S.A. and had recording in Spring, 2008. Then we made this album. -- Pirako Kurenai of Suishou No Fune." - Important

"Follow This House by Mouthus is a companion piece to their 2005 full length for Important titled The Long Salt. Picking up right where The Long Salt left off, Follow This House is a record chock full of manic bad mood energy, crunching resin-soaked jams and hundred year-old instrumentation emerging from the soggy mire only to be slowly pushed back in by poison clouds of delayed-out vocal groan. Mouthus are on a stated mission to incorporate new sounds and new instrumentation into their recordings. Never repeating themselves Follow This House is less fractured and more minimal, embracing the Mouthus sludgefest like a settling foundation." - Important

"This album is a return to more abrasive and heavy Mouthus territory after forays into acoustic instrumentation and, yes, a Fleetwood Mac cover on their recent Troubleman full-length. Free/tribal percussion spatter n clatter duels with endlessly mutating three chord sludge-riffage beneath thick, poison clouds of delayed-out vocal groan.  Truly CHOCK full of manic bad-mood energy but maybe psych-droney and resin-soaked enough for the new crop of crunchier noise-heads to nod to as well.  Electric guitars strung with duct tape and drums equipped with hundred-year old heads are jettisoned into deep space and dynamited, combusting so vividly that the after-images soak our retinas with mandalas of interwoven earthworms and beer funnels for hours afterwards." -Important

Format: CD

Country: USA
Price: $13.50
Pete Swanson & Gabe Salomon (Yellow Swans), Tom Carter (Charalambides) & Robert Horton. "Swamp noise drone. Feedback is layered like mud on the carcass of song structure. Robert uses primitive cassette manipulation as well as digital processing to thicken the sound into a swamp. Think Credence Clearwater Revival without the one chord they knew. On three of the songs, Pete uses his analog reel-to-reel wall-of-sound processing apparatus. Longjaw Mudsuckers was inspired by a mid-eighties cassette where Merzbow mixed John Hudaks nature sounds into a screaming mass of sonic debris. Robert recorded a stream after the huge New Years Day storm and Pete plugged it into his system, making it sound at times like a stream, an ocean, and robots whispering mechanical secrets. This CD contains some of the first recordings of Tom Carters circuit-bending. Individual attributes of Gabe Mindels guitar roar, Tom Carters ebow laptop whirl, and Horton s clanky homemades merge into the mud stew. Driving the swirl are samples of boogie woogie piano, riffs from the session, and pounding drums." - Important.

As the idea for the tour came together, Keenan unfortunately had to step out for personal reasons. CSY graciously accepted to take his place, and what was originally to be an acoustic Babi Music cover band became the electro-acoustic behemoth The New Monuments. Title: What??
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"What?? is a focused and grounding work produced by Swedish composer Folke Rabe in 1967. From his interest in sound phenomena and harmonics Rabe was able to make one of the most deep, moving pieces of sustained sound generated in this formative era of minimalist electronic composition. Initially reissued on Dexters Cigar in 1997 and now available on Important with expanded packaging including archival materials furnished by the composer. Amplified infinity." - Important. "My interest in the makeup of various sound phenomena began many years ago. The basic physical preconditions were familiar to me, but I wanted to experience the components of the sound with my hearing. I attempted to hear into the different sounds in order to grasp the components that made them up. I experienced how the overtones in a tone sounding on the piano change slowly as they die away. I also attempted to grasp the brittle arpeggio of formants that arises when a vowel is slowly changed at a particular pitch. I also tried, as far as possible, to train my hearing to tease out the complex processes that occur at the origin of sound... About 85% of the material is made up of electronically generated tones, which however are never present in their static, original form. Each partial has been specially treated in itself, which can at times yield a very rich result. What?? was created in the late summer of 1967, and was realized by me in the electronic studio of the Swedish Radio. The piece was presented for the first time in the same year as part of a collective evening performance (Signery) in the Stockholm Radio Hall by Jan Bark, Bo Anders Persson and myself." - Folke Rabe.

Title: Attention Patterns
Format: Double LP/Book
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $36.00
"Attention Patterns is a 2 LP set featuring new and archival compositions by Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue, Yoshi Wada and Sun Circle, as well as a 48-page booklet containing interviews with the composers and related texts. This release brings together composers with shared affinities for long, slowly unfolding durations and unconventional, harmonic approaches to tuning. Each has contributed a full LP side to the compilation. Edition of 600. Pauline Oliveros Horse Sings from Cloud (Encore) is a live performance from 1977 that finds her at her most distilled, performing alone with her justly tuned accordion and voice. Eliane Radigues electronic work Biogenesis, from 1973, uses her ARP synthesizer and recordings of human heartbeats as its main constituents and is the only piece included on the LPs that has been previously released. Sound artist and instrument builder, Yoshi Wada, appears with Reed Modulations, a new work for harmonium, audio generators and bagpipe, made in collaboration with his son, Tashi Wada. Greg Davis and Zach Wallace, better known as Sun Circle, have contributed For Yoshi Wada, an ecstatic and fitting tribute with its oddly tuned free reed drones and percussion. The accompanying booklet includes several of Oliveros Sonic Meditations -- verbal scores that formed the basis for her concept of Deep Listening -- and interviews with Radigue, Wada, and Sun Circle, as well as an in-depth article on collaborating with Radigue by cellist Charles Curtis. Attention Patterns was compiled by Che Chen (whose other outings as anthologist have included the no longer extant, O Sirhan, O Sirhan, a zine that counted Henry Flynt, Bruce McClure, Sir Richard Bishop, Sublime Frequencies, Jessica Rylan, Animal Collective, Deerhoof, Jorge Boehringer and others among its featured) and is a co-release between his new imprint, Black Pollen Press, and Important Records. "Nice box of great-sounding unreleased recordings from Schnitzlers vault. No recordings dates or additional information is included, but this is "cold, electronic sound" at its best."-FE. "Trigger Trilogy consists of three discs each selected from hundreds of hours of Schnitzlers private recordings. Each represents one of the few unique approaches that Schnitzler takes to recording, each uniquely identified and defined by Schnitzler. Within each of these recordings one can hear how Schnitzler influenced a generation of artists not only in Germany but in the world around and how hes brought those sounds into the modern day. Its also apparent in these recordings that Schnitzler is thoughtful and enlightened, a total pioneer floating freely in a world of sound. Trigger One consists of what Schnitzler calls his Solo Voices or Solo Electronics. This particular recording happens to be rhythmically-based electronic work. Recognizing that in traditional music the melodic line is subordinate to the ensemble leaving it no true impression of its own, Schnitzler has liberated the solo voice in his own music and given it its own vocation as noise, tone and sound. Trigger Two is what Schnitzler refers to as Free Concert Mix Solos. Trigger Three, the final disc in the Trigger Trilogy, is a Con-Cert. "-Important.

Country: USA
Price: $14.50
This vinyl edition of 33 1/3 is limited to 1000 copies on black, red, red/black split and red & black splatter vinyl. Includes a bonus track only available on the vinyl version. "33 1/3 is Smegmas tribute to their 20th century avant-garde and out-jazz influences. The title is one part reference to the happy revival of passionate vinyl listening in the 21st century and one part celebration of their long hard slog of 33 1/3 years of being one of the most free thinking and original American underground groups. Their focus, ideas and determination has brought them through more than three decades and to this day they remain unparalleled, original and highly influential. 33 1/3 is enhanced with live videos of Happy Holidays live at End Times Festival (with Spencer Yeh and Twig Harper) as well as Grubsteak live at the Three Million Tongues festival in Chicago. Smegma. Seriously. Theyve been at it for so long now that you cant really even say they sound like anyone else. You can only say that others sound like them. Theyre all here on 33 1/3: Oblivia, Ju Suk Reet Meate, Burned Mind, Conroy, Dr. Id. The core group drumming up their influences and pulling off another burning album of magnificent proportions. While Smegma has never really fit in anywhere their influence on the modern avant garde and improvised noise scene is absolutely undeniable. However, its essential to remember that Smegma has never been noise for noises sake. While theyve had two feet firmly planted in avant-garde & free jazz, one must not forget their rock roots as well. For this reason alone theyre bound to not fit in anywhere. Influences aside, no matter how much everyone else sounds like Smegma, you can bet that Smegma is always going to sound like nobody else. Nobody else channels so much energy, effort, influence or sound into their work. They may just be the greatest American band. Ever." - Important. CD also available.

With four of the original members working together again for the first time in many years, together with many new collaborators, they have kept alive their unique brand of old school primitive, avant/garage music. Running the gamut from the music concrete inspired subtlety, the bombastic mood of the title track, world of my owns frenzied noise/funk jams, that morph past rockn [Eno/Roxy Music era] garage band, before finally slipping into a primitive meditation involving silly voices, toys, record players and such. Heavy lyrical emotion transcends linguistic barriers and Pirakos blown-out fuzzy free-dream guitar work is an alternate universe psychedelic Japanese shoegaze. The breath and quality of Kouheis work was apparent across these three releases and his compositions for this split LP serve to create connections between his beat based work and his more abstract soundscapes. Kouheis most recent solo work was just released by Skam. Asmus Tietchens contributions to contemporary electronic music is immense. Title: Ex Patris
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"Limited to 500 copies. The title Ex Patris (From The Fathers) plays on the idiomatic baroque lute compositions presented here which emulate the classical repertoire. It also refers to this almost forgotten instrument, which was passed on by the fathers. The aim is to bring back and liberate the lute. The four compositions on Ex Patris form a circular narrative of interlocking repetitive melodic series. The follow up to Important release It Is All That Is Made kicks off with the pro apocalyptic track The Day is Coming. Amor Fati (Love Is A Religion) channels a deep interest in both love for religion and religious belief in love. Multiple palindromes are juxtaposed and linger. Son of Dawn consists of mirrored lute harmonics that serve as an intro to the 13 minute elegiac After The Fire Has Devoured All It Will Consume Itself. The piece builds and releases tension and puts layer upon layer of ecstatic melody. At the end even the work itself gets devoured but it remains eternal, with no potential beginning and without end." -Important

"This is music as a shamanic aid, made as much for the players themselves as for the listeners. But as Im writing from the listening perspective, I have to inform yall that this is music to get you there. Every track sounds as though it has always just been there, its just you aint quite tuned into its peculiar frequency until now. The 12-and-a-half minute Wearing Clothes of Ash is like a piano-led Paradieswarts Duul-period drone-a-thon with John Cale and Terry Riley guesting on viola and keys. Price: $14.00
"Violinist/vocalist C Spencer Yeh & unrivaled saxophone elder-titan Paul Flaherty team up without the assistance of acclaimed drummer Chris Corsano for the first time. Along for the jamz is bonkers Boston trumpeter Greg Kelley. After performing numerous times and honing a distinct group dynamic as a trio over many years with celebrated percussionist Chris Corsano, Yeh and Flaherty decided to try it out one-on-one. The record comprises of the best from two live sets from a short duo tour in the Northeast -- at the celebrated venue Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, and Nom DArtiste in Boston. With minimal editing, this is the sound of two people tearing at the limits of their instruments, these iconic configurations of metal and wood; hurling their respective accumulated life experience into one another, exposed and raw. The duo is likely one of the most dangerous configurations for people to interact within, musical or otherwise. Greg Kelley on trumpet is added to the mix and the results mutate into an even more mysterious form -- the trumpet is indistinguishable from the vocals; the saxophone creaks so the voice doesnt have to." -Important

Halstead was shortly to begin work on Slowdives final and most experimental album, Pygmalion. Recorded at a time when the popularity of ambient techno was at its peak, these recordings are remarkably austere by comparison. Whilst A Harsh Truth displays the Oriental gracefulness of a Sakamoto/Sylvian collaboration, Tzarists gothic industrialism shares more in common with the early works of Coil. Following the release of Pygmalion and Creation letting go of Slowdive, Halstead would disband Slowdive and abandon sound experimentation to create more song-based material in Mojave 3. Shortly thereafter, Wilson began collaborating with drum & bass producer and engineer Joe Gray on more rhythm based, yet still atmospheric productions. Too Scared to Breath features the voice of Seefeels Sarah Peacock and sounds not unlike prime Autechre and Aphex. Militia (Dynamic Warfare) on the other hand mirrors the post-metal dub of Techno Animal and Scorn. All of the recordings were lost until very recently when Touch recording artist Mark Van Hoen found the two tracks on old CD-Rs and cassettes he was given by Wilson. Wilson produced and recorded in the Knives ov Resistance project for the Aurora Borealis label and is currently working on a project with Ted Parson (Swans/Prong)." -Important

Price: $14.00
"Belgian audio/visual project founded in 1990 by Geert Feytons and Timo van Luijk. In 1993 Greg Jacobs joined the group and sound engineer Eric Faes became a regular member until 98. In 1996 Timo van Luijk moved to the background to concentrate on his personal musical work and Marc Wroblewski appeared in the fixed NMF line-up. The sounds for their compositions were generated by various selfmade instruments, the most extraordinary being stumps & trunks from dead trees. They composed music for various films, installations, theatre & dance-performances. With the death of Geert Feytons in 2006, the other members decided to stop performing and playing under the NMF banner. Greg Jacobs, Marc Wroblewski and Timo Van Luyk re-united as Onde." - Discogs. Timo Van Lujk: "Born in Finland, but living in Belgium, Timo has been an active participant in experimental sound activities in his current home. Originally a member of Noise-Makers Fifes, he later split off and started his own solo project, Af Ursin. In recent years he also been active collaborating with others such as Raymond Dijkstra (in the duo Asra), Kris Vanderstraeten, and Christoph Heemann (in the duo In Camera (2)). Though his music has appeared on several labels, he also has his own label, La Scie Dorée." - Discogs. Limited edition of 120 numbered copies wrapped in aluminum foil. "the twenty committee was my project with chris scarpino; it ran from 1981-1985. network was my first lp release and the first classic of my long career. it was the second xx committee release following a cassette, steel negro music, on arph records. network was originally supposed to appear on charles balls lust/unlust label but it went bust (unbust). luckily, a couple of weeks after we heard the terrible, terrible news, thermidor records got in touch and ended up releasing the lp. our idea was simple one. we wanted to strip industrial music, which we both enjoyed, of all of its rock moves and create a music that sounded like idealized heavy industrial machinery. we thought the repetition of our music, as well as the sound, was a radical critique of the exploitive nature of work under consumer-capitalism. we wanted to make machine-like anthems of negativity, but like the sound of heavy machinery, with a stark and powerful beauty. thats what we thought, anyway. the record sank without a trace. chris got disillusioned over the actual opportunity to make good art and make a living and went into engineering. ive stayed the course. it seems like he may have been right. at any rate, this is a nicely done and fully authorized re-issue by the polish label impulsy stetoskopu. numbered edition of 250 copies, well mastered from the lp. nice digipak reproduction of the cover with photos on the inside." - Scott Foust (Story Of Failure, Idea Fire Company, Tart, Shadow Ring, Pickle Factory, Anschluss, Swill Radio, etc..). ⿿25th anniverary⿝ edition of the 1983 LP originally released on Joe Carduccis legendary Thermidor label.

"an insight in the light of a free spirit. in the 70s, Henry was the editor and publisher of the internationally acclaimed newletter BELLS. his first musical output dates from 1977, when he played tenor saxophone on HENRY KAISERs album Ice Death. since the early 80s, Henry started to focus on solo music, using instruments like saxophone, flutes, musette, violins, gamelan, rhaita, etc. in 1986, he formed the free jazz troupe OPEYE. Henry ran the beautiful HUMMING BIRDS recordlabel, on which he produced several lps, cassettes and cd releases of solo and group improvisations. Speed Of Culture Light is a retrospective boxset (with material ranging from 1980 until present day) and shows a wide and varied collection of free jazz jams, solo improvisations and beautiful 6-track meditations. in 2008, we will release a compilation album of the HUMMING BIRD EARTH SERIES cassettes, wich was a series of 5 ethnographic tapes recorded by Henry in Bali, Mexico, Bolivia, and Guatemala between 1985 and 1991. "Any old school Bay Area improvisor/spirit music freak can tell you that Henry Kuntz has, since the late 70s, been one of the most audacious and interesting free improvisers on the scene non-stop. His documentation has been typically subterranean starting from his initial recorded sounds on Henry Kaisers 1977 Ice Death LP, a flashpoint record for many a guitar experimentalist (Jim ORourke e.g.). For most of the 70s Kuntz edited and published a great newsletter called Bells (available to read online at www.metropolis.com/bels). Throughout the 80s Kuntz released LPs, cassettes and CDs on his own Hummingbird imprint of solo and group free-playing, all of which have amazing moments of deep spontaneous thought-love-composition. A fantastic compilation of this material, plus recordings from Kuntz Opeye project self described as ⿿avant-shamanic trance jazz,⿝ can be had on the beautiful four cassette boxset, Speed Of Culture Light, from Belgium label Bread & Animals. The label plans on systematically re-releasing the Hummingbird cassettes throughout this year. Essential music for the ancient/modern axis alive in any sentient brain. And each package comes with complimentary plastic dinosaur. So no excuses." - Thurston Moore, Bull Tongue

"Out of Metz, France comes the ugly and brutal noise-punk of A.H. KRAKEN. Their name is an amalgam of a facist dictator and a sea monster, and their sound is a wild, intense blur of bludgeoning rhythms, industrial clatter, scraping guitars, and caterwauling vocals. Citing influences as disparate PiL, Motoerhead, US Maple, Suicide, Flipper, The Shaggs, and Chrome, A.H. Kraken could implode or explode at any given second. Everything is yelled in barely intelligible French, so its impossible to say what theyre bellowing about, though one song is titled "Kevin Costner Est Un Acteur Americain." When bassist/vocalist S.J. was asked, he assured that the lyrics are "all about peace and love." Be skeptical. A.H. Kraken are pure, unrestrained throttle-burn. They create landscapes of sound with instruments that are obviously getting the shit beat out of them." - In The Red.

Artist: CONSUMERS
Title: All My Friends Are Dead
Format: LP
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"THE CONSUMERS were originally just three guitar players with no rhythm section-PAUL CUTLER, MIKEY BORENS and lyricist / lead singer DAVID WILEY, all bonded by love of psychedelic Euro-prog jazz like Henry Cow, Gong and Robert Wyatt-whod stopped listening to rock n roll after Bowies Spiders from Mars came out around 1972. By 77 our guys had re-discovered rock through Britpunk pub raunch like The Sex Pistols and The Damned. Cutler and high school bud Wiley had even driven all the way to L.A. determined to hunt down a copy of The Pistols "Anarchy in the UK" single. In the pre-Internet days there wasnt a record store anywhere in Arizona that had even heard of it, let alone stocked it. All My Friends Are Dead was The Consumers "fuck you" to Phoenix since nearly all their gigs there ended in brawls with long-haired rockers and other redneck gnarlers pounding on the band for daring to play punk rock in public in 1977! It didnt take long to suss. Head on out. Just before they packed for L.A. in early 78 the band managed to get themselves on tape during a single session blow-out frenzy. All My Friends Are Dead successfully captures The Consumers as a pissed-off-yet-still-fun, no-frills, punk-rockin band... exactly who and what they were during their extremely short and sweet existence. After a few months of violent and intense live shows at The Masque and other local punk dives, the band finally imploded. Some headed back to Phoenix and some stayed on in L.A. to form new bands. Cutler went on to form the goth / punk 45 GRAVE and still later joined the DREAM SYNDICATE. Wiley formed the Pasadena art rock HUMAN HANDS. Sadly, today there are only two surviving members of The Consumers. Sadder still, what passes for punk rock today is easy listening when compared to All My Friends Are Dead. Originally planned to be released on Dangerhouse Records, first issued by In The Red in 1994 in a limited edition of 500 copies and long-out-of-print on vinyl." -Brendan Mullen

Artist: FRESH & ONLYS
Title: Play It Strange
Format: LP
Label: In the Red
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"In The Red is proud to announce the release of the new full-length from San Franciscos FRESH AND ONLYS, Play It Strange. After two albums (on Castle Face and Woodsist, respectively) and too many singles and EPs to count, The Fresh and Onlys deliver their most solid outing yet. Recorded by studio whiz TIM GREEN during an eight-day session, Play It Strange marks the bands first recording in an actual recording studio. On two-inch analog tape! The results are nothing short of incredible. For those unfamiliar with The Fresh and Onlys, their sound draws from jangly psychedelia, Morricone-style Western twang, dark vibes a la Bad Seeds / Gun Club, melodic 60s sunshine pop and a hint of garage rock swagger. While this disparate list may look strange on paper, it makes perfect sense when you hear it. Play It Strange is the sound of a band that has ingested a wide range of rock n roll influences from nearly every genre and sub-genre to come up with something fresh and enjoyable. LP includes digital download." - In the Red.

Artist: TV GHOST
Title: Cold Fish
Format: LP
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $10.00
"In The Red is proud to announce the debut full-length album from Lafayette, Indiana, creepers TV GHOST-a band who ushers in a vile and squalid new disposition to ugly art punk and carves out a black hole of pestilence that will delight its sufferers to no end. If one can swim through the murky grime long enough to let ones frazzled senses adjust, its clear how effectively TV Ghost incorporates the licentious nuances of The Cramps earliest scuzz, no waves cacophony, and Suicides terrifying throb alongside cavernous bellows from the depths of the third layer of hell. With their 7-inch and 12-inch EP on Die Stasi Records as evidence of their shambolic songwriting and inhuman creativity within rocks static-laden low-end sound spectrum, TV Ghost now have aligned their belligerence with In The Red and delivered Cold Fish-ten tracks of a teeth-shattering, unhinged, and thoroughly penetrating version of whats lurking in punks darkest corners." - In The Red

Artist: TV GHOST
Title: Mass Dream
Format: LP
Label: In the Red
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Taking their name from the phenomenon of analog television frequency disturbances, Lafayette, Indianas TV GHOST conjures an especially sludgy and punishing brand of art-punk. They began making a name for themselves in 2007, when their first 7-inch, Atomic Rain, was released by Die Stasi Records, also home to the noisy likes of Pink Reason and Zola Jesus. TV Ghosts sinister sound-which echoes the Scientists, Suicide and The Cramps 70s output-and frantic live show won them an underground following; a 12-inch EP on Die Stasi, a single on Columbus Discount Records and their debut album, Cold Fish, followed in 2009 with several rounds of touring the US in support. The bands trek across Europe in 2010 left a trail of busted gear, annoyed booking agents and new fans behind them. TV Ghosts sophomore full-length was recorded by GREG ASHLEY (Gris Gris), and Mass Dream is by far their clearest and most coherent release to date. While sacrificing none of the bands scuzz-punk dementia, this album is far less dense and impenetrable than its predecessor; Ghost frontman TIM GICKs lyrics are clearer and his complex song structure a bit easier to get a handle on. That said, this is still blood-boiling, spastic and down right evil music by anyones standards." -In the Red.

Artist: TYVEK
Title: Nothing Fits
Format: LP
Label: In the Red
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"As Detroit continues its seemingly irreversible slide into the tar pits of economic despair, new traditionalists TYVEK unashamedly take the reins and harness the ambition to keep their slurred, manically refreshing noise pop bouncing around the skulls of everyone still breathing in the real, uncategorizable fumes of the original new wave... Tyveks In The Red debut, Nothing Fits, is a scalding collection of amped-up and thrust-out songs that cranks up the energy level far beyond their previous releases and decimates the detractors into the abyss. Its Tyvek at their fiery, screaming best, and if this doesnt curl your eyebrows and your toes simultaneously with excitement, then you might need to settle for something musically akin to hospital food or take another laxative, because this blast of new recordings might just flush out your system to the point of personal emergency."-Todd Killings, Victimoftime.com* Vinyl includes digital download coupon.

Title: On Triple Beams
Format: LP
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"TYVEKs third album, On Triple Beams, picks up where the blistering proto-hardcore of the Nothing Fits record leaves off, but doesnt tarry long in familiar zones. The melodies open up into a much more spacious musical headspace, channeling unexpected positivity on tracks like "Wayne County Roads," "Say Yeah" and "Returns." Produced by FRED THOMAS, On Triple Beams is hard and direct but it doesnt pummel. Likewise, the lyrics aint pedantic. Searing punk rock is still the order of the day, and the tunes are just bangin. And in case theres any doubt: these are tunes in a major way-the songwriting chops are on this album are completely out of place in the 2012 bumper crop of plastic platters. Welcome to the strange path that Tyvek has trod for the past eight years: for every step forward, they take two steps to the side for good measure. This trip wont be spoiled by the crass opportunism of the Nu-Detroiters: they have to keep it real. Sometimes the new jacks just gotta get put in check, and obviously Mommy and Daddy werent ever going to do it. In the midst of so much change, Tyvek is energized by the chaos of a city in flux, the crucial moments that make up everyday life, and the unfiltered reality of sensory experiences. Hear the sound and jump all around." -In The Red.

Artist: UV RACE
Title: Homo
Format: LP
Label: In the Red
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"2007 saw the first recording from Melbourne, Australias The UV RACE-a self-released tape featuring four songs of primitive thud, minimal assemblage and high-energy expression. Over the next three years the band has continued to show dedication to these themes with a string of cassettes and singles and their 2009 self-titled debut full-length, and their sophomore album Homo delivers on the promise of these early releases. Working again with EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING guitarist MIKEY YOUNG at the recording and mixing stages, The UV Race developed the songs over several sessions. Their willingness to explore is clear, from the psychotic bedroom confessional of "Girl in My Head" with its confident teen-heat swagger, to the seven-minute closer "Homo," where nods to the Ramones enclose a psychedelic freak-out reminiscent of the closing minutes of The Stooges Funhouse. In between, the band explores influences ranging from their Australian proto-punk and garage fascinations to American country, Krautrock and UK post-punk, citing the Velvet Underground and the Saints as influences. Includes members of TOTAL CONTROL and STRAIGHTJACKET NATION. Includes digital download coupon." -In The Red

Title: Racism
Format: LP
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"God is saying this to you: Racism is the third album by Australias most genius avant-tards THE UV RACE, dragging melodious pop songs through a devolved, malodorous glam-punk aesthetic. It continues the stylistic jump from their self-titled debut to sophomore full-length Homo, further exploring the possibilities of the first wave of punk, incorporating orchestral arrangements and gutter-glitter psych stomp, like if Vom tried to write their own Forever Changes; like if the Electric Eels backed up Bolan or if The Fall put out a record on Crass Records. There are tuneful lamentations of heartbreak and loss alongside very debased, toilet-humor punk licks; Lovecraftian psych-cult morbidity at one moment and rousing anti-anthems against self denial the next. It has been an especially productive year for the band-they are about to launch their first feature-length film, Autonomy and Deliberation, and the soundtrack LP recorded for the film comes alongside Racism, a split 7-inch with Native Cats (on Ride the Snake), a split live LP with Eddy Current Suppression Ring (on Almost Ready, originally released on a limited run of cassettes back in 2008), and the Gypsy King single (from Racism, on HoZac). All this, plus the output of the numerous other Melbourne bands in which members of UV Race play-Asps, Dick Diver, East Link, Guy & Marcus Blackman Experimentation, Lower Plenty, School of Radiant Living, Soma Coma, Straightjacket Nation and Total Control-reveal a relentless commitment for the sake of the song. LP includes digital download coupon." -In The Red.

Artist: VIVIAN GIRLS
Title: Everything Goes Wrong
Format: LP
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Brooklyns VIVIAN GIRLS are back with Everything Goes Wrong, released almost exactly a year after In The Reds reissue of their self-titled debut. The band have taken their time with this new album and recorded it in six days-rather than the three their debut took-though many of the songs were still recorded in single takes. Over the last year, the Vivian Girls have toured the US and Europe extensively and received a considerable amount of national and international press. Everything Goes Wrong is a slightly moodier album than its predecessor, with a couple tracks clocking in at almost twice the length of anything on their debut. That said, the influences remain the same; Ramones, 60s girl groups, surf, indie pop, etc., etc. This is immediately classic stuff. Watch for constant touring in late 09 and 10. No exports to Australia." -In The Red

Artist: WOUNDED LION
Title: Friendly?
Format: 7'
Label: In The Red
Country: USA
Price: $5.50
"Los Angeles WOUNDED LION is a great no-frills pop band that sounds fresh, even when they remind one of classic American power-pop of the 70s. Inspired by The Velvets, The Cramps, The Clean and The Vaselines (as well as Credence Clearwater Revival and Kleenex), Wounded Lion is regularly seen at Los Angeles haunts such as Mr. Ts Bowl, The Smell, The Scene and Spaceland. Their hum-inducing, toe-tapping tunes wiggle their way into your brain and have you singing their choruses at the grocery store or waiting in line at the DMV. The bands formula is relatively simple: shambling, alternately silly and poignant songs that bend and twist timeless pop hooks. The bass and guitars belch out raw distortion, lending the music a primitive quality, but a whimsical sensibility elevates the abrasiveness to a jubilant level. Wounded Lion writes pop songs that celebrate the unrefined, dispensing with ego and tapping into the primal areas of the brain. LP version to follow." - In the Red.

Title: Choeurs Imaginaires
Format: CD
Label: Ina Grm
Country: France
Price: $16.00
"CD issue compiling three of Reibels voice-themed works over the years: On eût dit des coups dailes (an homage to Pierre Schaeffer from 1996 incorporating digital processing into a post-Penderecki/Ligeti landscape), Suite pour Edgar Poe (a super-bleepy setting of three poems from the Beaudelaire translations of Poe (Nouvelles Histoires Extraordinaires) to concrete sound from 1973), and a section of Langages imaginaires (also a grouping of poetry, in this case Rimbaud and Butor, and word-sound from 1981). Reibels up there in my book with Parmegiani and Bayle as one of the chief architects of the digital-age INA sound and this serves as a fine introduction to his monde de bruit. For those who dont mind a little human breath in their computer world." -Hrvatski.

Title: A Prayer For Light
Format: LP
Label: Incunabulum
Country: Netherlands
Price: $18.00
"Heresy of the Free Spirit is a trio comprised of Dutch lute player, Jozef Van Wissem and Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalists, Che Chen (of True Primes) on violin, bowed rawap, bass recorder, percussion and tape machines, and Robbie Lee (of Howling Hex, Baby Dee) on portative organ, bass recorder, guitar, banjo and electronics. Using early European as well as non-western instruments and electronics, the trio plays arrangements of Van Wissems lute compositions as well as free improvisations that draw on early music, folk traditions, minimalism and noise. Fully utilizing the extended techniques, unique textures and tuning possibilities of their unusual instruments, the trio use both repetition and silence as ways of entering trance-like states. Their record, A Prayer for Light is a radical re-imagining of early European and American primitive music in which the sources are stretched and re-purposed to accommodate free improvisation, extended, repetitive song forms, and tape manipulations." - Incunabulum.

Title: Concert In Milwaukee
Format: Cass
Label: Incus
Country: UK
Price: $14.00
"This was a cassette not officially released on Incus or any other label. It was sold by Derek Bailey at concerts. For a short period in 2010 original copies were sold via the Incus website. The back story: In 1983 Derek Bailey was due to visit Japan for a concert tour and decided to take with him, for sale at the concerts, a cassette recorded live in Milwaukee. Approximately 500 cassettes were prepared and dispatched to the promoter in Japan but, in the event, the tour fell through and the cassettes were returned to England. On arriving to collect the two boxes containing the cassettes from the Post Office, Derek found that they were badly damaged and, having to pay to regain them, decided to collect only one of the parcels. The salvageable cassettes - number not known, but probably around 150 - were subsequently sold at other live dates. All were produced on a light-grey plastic cassette body with Concert in Milwaukee, Derek Bailey plus date of concert, printed in light-blue directly on the cassette body. The cassette came with an insert with the number DBC2 (no number on cassette itself)." -Incus

Format: Double CD
Label: Industrial
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"Throbbing Gristles second full-length, originally released in 1978, captures alienation in its purest form. The line-up of Chris Carter, Peter Christopherson, Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti was a vehicle for everything bizarre, extreme and controversial. From the ravaged live track "Blood On The Floor" to the hostile phone recording on "Death Threats," TG lobotomized convention, whether musical or ideological. The lingering "Hamburger Lady" pulses with a story of a burn victim, and the bands restraint and careful composition makes it one of their best creations of all time, something absolutely terrifying. Full of tape-manipulation, computer noise and feedback, D.O.A epitomizes Throbbing Gristles unparalleled anti-music, cementing their status as "wreckers of civilization." Cover artwork has been painstakingly restored from the original source material. Part of the re-release of Throbbing Gristles first five albums on vinyl and CD. Each album has been restored and remastered specifically for each format by Chris Carter from 24bit "baked tape" digital transfers of the original first generation analogue master tapes. Each of the CD special-editions are presented in a gatefold sleeve featuring restored and remastered cover artwork and an integrated 8-page booklet (the booklets feature different artwork and content than the vinyl editions). Each CD special-edition also includes an exclusive bonus CD containing content from the year of the albums original release, including live tracks and remastered singles." -Industrial.

Title: Heathen Earth: The Live Sound Of Throbbing Gristle
Format: Double CD
Label: Industrial
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"Originally released in 1980, Heathen Earth is a crucial live document of industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle. In member Chris Carters own words: "You had to have been there. Which is what we always say about TG. TG on record and TG live are two completely different things." This album is probably the closest approximation of the two youll ever get: its a "live in-studio recording" made in front of a small audience and the event was filmed by Monte Cazzaza with the intention of also releasing it on video. The majority of the set is instrumental, fluctuating between the raw electronics of their early work and the bands more melodic material. Tracks include a rework of early classic "After Cease To Exist" and Brion Gysin fave "Dreammachine." The bonus CD includes live recordings, plus the 7" single versions of "Subhuman" and "Adrenalin." Part of the re-release of Throbbing Gristles first five albums on vinyl and CD. Title: Throbbing Gristle Bring You... 20 Jazz Funk Greats
Format: Double CD
Label: Industrial
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"Originally released in 1979, 20 Jazz Funk Greats is Throbbing Gristles pop-influenced masterwork. Its hard to believe the beautiful, conventionally-attractive Cosey Fanni Tutti on this albums front cover previously gave herself milk and blood enemas in front of a live audience. Additionally, the song "Hot On The Heels Of Love" is far removed from the dissonant nihilism of the previous TG albums. Its a sleek, minimal synth-pop song that foreshadows Tuttis later work as Chris & Cosey. Still, 20 Jazz Funk Greats is underpinned by a profound distance from accessibility. The breezy luminosity of "Persuasion" and "Six Six Sixties" is still marked with casual bits of distortion and absurdism. Preceding dark synth-pop (and everything else), TGs third album is far ahead of its time and still sounds as relevant as ever. The CD version includes a bonus CD of live recordings, including two versions of the manic classic, "Discipline." The 8-page full-color book includes visual ephemera and previously-unpublished photographs. Cover artwork has been painstakingly restored from the original source material." -Industrial

"Its impossible to deny Throbbing Gristles working methods and innovation are so deeply ingrained in the collective consciousness of... everything. The first real industrial group, the founders of Industrial Records and one of the most important electronic music innovators of all time, TG redefined music and laid a large part of the groundwork for all electronic music that followed. Title: Desertshore/The Final Report
Format: Double CD
Label: Industrial
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Industrial Records presents the much-anticipated two album release Desertshore/The Final Report, a unique collaboration by Chris Carter, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, and Cosey Fanni Tutti. This is a two album release celebrating both the progress inherent in change and the fulfillment of two exceptional, yet separate projects. The Desertshore project is a "re-imagined" cover version of Nicos seminal 1970 album, first conceived by the late Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson in Berlin in 2006. In 2010 at his home in Bangkok, he refocused his approach, readying to record guest vocalists while Chris and Cosey prepared material in their UK studio for his return there in December. Sadly, Sleazy unexpectedly died in his sleep on the 25th of November in Bangkok. Chris and Cosey made a commitment to Sleazy to complete the Desertshore project picking up from where they left off just prior to his untimely passing. With enthusiastic support and contributions from so many who were close to Sleazy, especially the guest artists whose work he admired: Antony, Marc Almond, Blixa Bargeld, Sasha Grey, and Gaspar Noé. Throughout their 36 year friendship, Carter, Christopherson, and Cosey Fanni Tutti produced many pioneering and acclaimed collaborative works together. These trio sessions were without exception always very productive; ideas that produced many hours of recordings, sound experiments, research in new performance possibilities, visuals, the ongoing design and building of new and innovative instruments; a constant restless exploration of new paths together. The Final Report album was completed from their final 2009/2010 sessions together at Chris and Coseys studio in Norfolk. This album stands as the final report: a celebration, a loving remembrance of their unique partnership. Industrial Records Ltd. is proud to release these two extraordinary recordings together. The CD edition comes with a 12-page booklet, a postcard, and one bonus track, housed in a oversized, spot-gloss printed trifold slipcase with 12-page booklet of notes and photos." - Industrial.

Title: Enclosure 7: Harry Partch
Format: DVD
Label: Innova
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
Format: 1 DVD: 140 mins. "Harry Partch (like his friend Anaïs Nin) considered his lifes work to be a letter to the world. His last act was going to be to add the enclosures. He never got around to it. After 20 years of working on the Partch archives, Philip Blackburn has now completed the seven-part Enclosures series as it were on his behalf. Enclosure 7, the culminating DVD of this multimedia series, is a monumental tribute to the most significant works of this American original and iconoclast. It includes new versions of his late masterworks and never-before-seen footage that bring us closer to the real Harry behind the myth. The Dreamer That Remains is a documentary produced by Betty Freeman and directed by Stephen Pouliot in 1972. Here is the directors original cut along with his commentary. If youve never seen Partch or his instruments before, this is the place to start. Delusion of the Fury was his magnum opus; a lifetime of instrument-invention and ideas of ritual theater were poured into this giant work. The 1971 film has been resynched and the soundtrack remastered in 5.1 surround sound. The CBS LPs of this work came with a bonus album of Harry introducing his instruments. Unavailable for years, this DVD features this talk along with a slideshow of the instruments. Revelation in the Courthouse Park was Harrys fusion of current pop idolatry with parallel (only a little more sinister) scenes of ancient Greece. Now you can see excerpts of the original 1960 Illinois production, replete with gymnasts, fireworks, and transvestites. And finally, if you ever wondered how a simple recipe for rose petal jam could turn into a hobo dance and a diatribe about music critics, you are in for a treat." Title: Enclosure 8
Format: DVD
Label: Innova
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"In 1985, Philip Blackburn climbed the stairs to an attic in Iowa City and started trying to make sense of the boxes piled up there. They contained a composers lifes work: scrapbooks, tapes, photos, letters, scores, and film reels -- fragile treasures documenting the 20th century from a most unusual viewpoint, perhaps the worlds most original musician: Harry Partch. The idea was to publish them and reveal Harry to the world on his own terms. Not as the crabby, homeless, self-taught microtonal musical weirdo and instrument maker, but as that most American of all artists, a truly independent thinker. With Enclosure 8, the work of bringing them to public attention reaches its apotheosis. The Enclosures series (named for the extras Partch wanted to add to his life-long letter to the world) started appearing in 1995 with a VHS video of four films made in collaboration with the Chicago-based film-maker Madeline Tourtelot. Four CDs, two years and one book later, Enclosure 4 appeared featuring his later films: Delusion of the Fury (his culminating ritual-theater work) and a San Diego Public TV documentary, also on VHS. Now the time has come for these to be issued on DVD, extensively restored, re-synched and digitally-remastered from the extant original prints. Until books and CDs become as obsolete as VHS, the Enclosures series is complete and, taken together with the Harry Partch Collection on New World Records, Partchs entire work is available for the first time. Innovas DVD, Enclosure 8, offers not only a chance to see higher quality versions of previously available material, but it also includes two performances made after Partchs death in 1974: a 1981 staged production of his hitchhiker piece, Barstow, directed by Danlee Mitchell, and a 2006 choreographed version of Castor & Pollux, performed by John Schneiders Ensemble Partch! using replicas of Partchs original set of instruments. Films include: Music Studio -- Harry Partch (1958): Partch takes the viewer on a tour of his Chicago home and plays his microtonal instruments. Includes his demonstration of how the soundtrack for Windsong was made. Windsong (1958): the ancient Greek legend of Daphne and Apollo, transported to Lake Michigan. U.S. Highball (1958; completed 1968): Partch and his ensemble perform a dramatized account of riding the rails during the Depression on a transcontinental hobo trip from California to Chicago. Rotate the Body in All Its Planes (1961): Harrys favorite: a ballet for gymnasts. The DVD is accompanied by a 12-page booklet featuring writings by Philip Blackburn, Danlee Mitchell, and Harry Partch." - Innova. Total running time: 126 mins. NTSC format, all regions.

Artist: COMIC BOOK OPERA
Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Insight
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
ComicBook"..instrumental band with an experimental and jazzy edge. Some pieces also have an Eastern feel. Not something I usual listen to but its a nice listen in fact. Sometimes it gets a bit too free jazz, especially with the saxophone. ..Connie (saxophones, funeral horn) and Jesse Walkershaw (bass) are the core members of the band. Other members play drums, keyboards, guitar, cheesy organ and tabla." - Phoenix Hairpin.

"Sometimes compared to SOFT MACHINE or GONG, this all-instrumental 1988 release is actually a very minimal and quite melodic trio of sax, bass and drums with just occasional touches of guitar and keyboards, and the sound is much less jazzy than it is cinematic, evocative and upbeat."- Insight.

Title: Leading Stolen Horses
Format: LP
Label: Insight
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"One of the true lost gems of West Coast gothic postpunk, this 1985 release was the first for the band led by Sri Lankan expat singer-songwriter Eric Cope. Taking the darker moments of JOY DIVISION as a starting point but leaving behind the industrial angst and fury for a rich and soulful melancholy that seamlessly blends first and third world cultures, they built something else entirely with insistent tribal rhythms, atmospheric guitar work, and Erics ghostly and desolate vocals, all with fine recording and production." -Insight.

"One of the best shows I went to in San Francisco during 1984 was the Glorious Din & Trial gig. This show really changed my life & made realize that I had to follow my dreams. Both of these bands were local bands, but they had created this killer post-punk sound that could hold its own with any band from anywhere. Around this time, Glorious Din released their classic album Leading Stolen Horses. This album is a post-punk gem that many people have never heard – trust me, after one listen you will be hooked. Every song on Leading Stolen Horses will touch your spirit in some way. I cant front, their singer Eric Cope could be compared to Ian Curtis, but honestly to me he had his own twisted vocal delivery. Glorious Din songs had these rad tribal drums that cascaded around your skull & then waltzed with your brain cells. Whats strange is that when I was younger, I believed this album gave me intelligence – with each listen, I learned more about my being. The guitar licks on this album are catchy & eternal, which puts you in a transcendental state. Their song Cello Tape shows that band was on a plane of their own. Search out this rad band Glorious Din & allow them to paint your world grey" - Sean Reveron, Cvltnation.com.

Artist: CIRCLE X
Title: s/t
Format: 12"
Label: Insolito
Country: Germany
Price: $20.00
"Formed 1978 in New York, Circle X was born out of the ashes of No Fun and the I-Holes as Louisvilles first punk rock band. Once the lineup of Circle X solidified, the formerly-punk band lunged headfirst into weirder, artier territory. Whether the big citys burgeoning No Wave scene influenced Circle X or they influenced the scene is unclear; what is clear, though, is that Circle X was the most unique, most mysterious, and most un-heralded band hailing from that place and time. In France for nine months with new manager Bernard Zekri, Circle X toured from their base in Dijon, garnering strong press and stronger public reaction while writing new material as they went. An untitled four-song EP saw the light of day in 1979. That untitled 12-inch debut was practically without antecedent. Its a lurching, squalling monster. Identified only by a symbol on the cover (a spray-painted circle with an "X" through it; the spelled-out name first appeared in 83), it pits Pinottis screeched vocals against Witsiepe and the Letendres bass-less, barely contained distorto-blare. The hatred and rage on this thing is palpable and when it coalesces perfectly with the music, as it does on the lead track, Tender, its pretty damn effective. Nothing sounded like this in 1979. They arrived in New York at the tail end of No Wave, at the same time that equally ornery bands like Swans and Sonic Youth were getting revved up. Circle X are every bit as distinctive and attitudinal as Throbbing Gristle, PiL, Theoretical Girls, DNA, or Mars, yet they dont much sound like any of them. We proudly represent this masterpiece after thirty years again for the public. It has lost none of its intensity and rage. 180 gram vinyl in tip-on jackets that bear the original artwork and poly lined black inner sleeve plus liner notes." - Insolito.

Artist: SLUGFUCKERS
Title: Three Feet Behind Glass/Instant Classic
Format: 12"
Label: Insolito
Country: Germany
Price: $20.00
"TIME TO GET TO KNOW THE SLUGFUCKERS….. The Slugfuckers were started in the late 1970s in Sydney, Australia by Terry Blake (vocals), John Laidler (guitar) and Graham Forsyth (bass) who were all at the time students or recent graduates of the Department of General Philosophy at Sydney University. Craig Wilcox (keyboard), Gordon Renouf (guitar, sax), Austin Laverty (drumkit) joined soon after. They released two extremely rare singles in 1979 which are combined on this 12" and an album in 1981. Bridging the nascence of punk, DIY, and industrial, The Slugfuckers took the true intent of punk and carried it to a logical extreme. With shouted vocals, almost rudimentary playing, volume on ten and many obligatory messy interludes they enthralled, engaged and repelled in equal parts…A raw, underproduced angry attack that bores right into your brain. "It will catch the ears of those who can embrace abstract punk sounds or industrial harshness. To be filed alongside The Homosexuals, The Desperate Bicycles, The Instant Automatons, The Prats, Door and the Window, The Versatile Newts, etc etc. Avant / Post -punk madness that leaves you scratching your skull . Noise historians will wonder over the use of Manson references, Burroughs samples and Anti-art manifestos way before the Industrial boys tried to claim them as their own." - Harbingersound. "...noisier and more abrasive than most first generation industrial stuff, a hell of a lot more punk than, say, The Lewd and intelligent in a scary, vicious bullying kind of way" - Johan Kugelberg, Ugly Things Magazine. Limited to 500 copies, its on 180 gram vinyl in tip-on jackets with the artwork from the EP and poly lined inner sleeve plus liner notes." - Insolito.

"NSM were another band which popped up on many compilations in the early 80s (such as "Born Out of Dreams", "The Elephant Table Album", "Journey to the End of the Night", "Sudden Departure" and "Integration"), but never had an LP out. still they made some very nice sounds, and despite appearing in the company of post-industrial acts mostly, they were more of the free music variety, albeit a bit more cosmic. they probably owed more to Anima, than TG." - Eric Lanzillotta.

Title: Split
Format: 7"
Label: Intercoastal Artists
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"This is both bands first 7-inch record and they chose to (selflessly) pay homage to GALAXIE 500. CLOUDLAND CANYON (Holy Mountain, Kranky, Tee Pee) steps out from behind the curtain to reveal just a little bit about themselves and their influences. Galaxie 500 filled the gap between the Velvet Underground and the American branch of shoegaze, exemplified by the Lilys, Ropers, Slumberland Records (etc.). Cloudland Canyon has taken Galaxy 500s "Temperatures Rising" (from Today), along with all of these aforesaid influences, and pushed them further out, out, out into outer space. How can you stare at your shoes when youre this far out? Cloudland Canyon! Meanwhile CITAY (Dead Oceans) display their musical prowess and courage by tackling the revered "Tugboat." Citay are known for making 21st century prog, though this doesnt become apparent until the end of the track. Mostly, they do a straight, maybe even a little stripped down, cover of this pop masterpiece. Citay, nay EZRA FEINBERG, spent some time in PIANO MAGIC and this cover should do his former mates proud. This track also appears on the Citays new album Dream Get Together on Dead Oceans, but is best heard as a single." -Intercoastal Artists

Title: Master Sleeps
Format: LP
Label: Intergalactic Tactics
Country: Sweden
Price: $22.00
"The 2nd album from Swedish heavy psych / spacerock band is nothing else than a masterpiece! Music taken from parts of psychedelic, drone and evil death. Unsacred mantras echoing from the depths below! Recommended for friends of THE STOOGES, GILA, GERMAN OAK, SYD BARRETT, YAHOWA 13, BARN OWL, WOODEN SHJIPS to mention a few." - Intergalactic Tactics.

"Though they dont quite hit the same level of fiery abandon as their similarly named American brethren White Hills, these Swedish psych rangers do share quite a few things in common with the NYC noisemakers. Germinating from the same love of the Space Rock-Krautrock axis that brought forth Wooden Shjips, Expo 70, and forefathers like Hawkwind and German Oak, Hills inhabit a low gravity, groove-oriented plateau of guitar-heavy psych that at times ventures into the same Eastern territories that UK guitar-slinger Rick Tomlinsons explores in his Voice of the Seven Thunders project. Hills S/T debut sold out in a quick run of 300 and was a worthy piece to get your hands on; this will surely go just as quickly, and is just as much fun as its predecessor." - Andy French, Raven Sings The Blues/Altered Zones.

"Swedish rock / kraut / psyche outfit Hills deliver some varied styles across this limited slab of import wax. "Death 1" is a gritty, low-slung piece of psycedelic post-punk jamming. A gorgeously filthy bass holds the grooves while feedback experiments and time mangled vocals flood the mix - sweaty and dirty music for the dungeons. "Ex Oblivious" is a tripped out interlude track with some sci-fi guitar picking and dreamy sea tones. On side B we get some echoed flute accompanying lush guitar licks and a live jam thats got some of Wooden Shjips epic tones and resonances. The record as a whole has a warm organic feel to it that hugs the sences and rubs the mind. I love it!" - Picadilly. Edition of 300 copies.

Artist: KAPOTTE MUZIEK & LETHE
Title: Tsurumai
Format: CD
Label: Intransitive
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Recorded in the industrial city of Nagoya, Japan, Tsurumai is an expansive album of rough electro-acoustic music. Starting from a few small clicks, the music steadily grows outward, uneasily shifting and expanding. Rude bumps interrupt narcotic drones, the telltale human hands of improvisation disappear into a mysterious group sound, acoustic and digital elements blur, vision fails, and time stops...Frans de Waard began his Kapotte Muziek (literally broken music) project in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1984, and went on to found the Korm Plastics label. In Nagoya, KM met up with Kuwyama Kiyoharu, aka Lethe, an omnivorous multi-instrumentalist whose work typically takes advantage of some acoustic peculiarity of the space in which it is recorded." - Intransitive.

Artist: KOMMISSAR HJULER & MAMA BAER
Title: Asylum Lunaticum
Format: CD
Label: Intransitive
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Intimate, absurd, feral and aggressive in its homemade weirdness, the music of Kommissar Hjuler & Mama Bär has been a well-kept secret for too long. Hjuler & Bär have self-published their dada-esque sound poetry experiments on small-edition lathe-cut LPs, tapes and CDRs for years, usually adorning them with elaborate junk sculptures and paintings. Intransitive is proud to collect their best recordings so far onto a single, widely available CD so that anyone can hear the music without making a major financial investment. The husband and wife duo uses deceptively simple means -- typically just their voices, a cassette-tape recorder and a microphone -- to create astonishing suburban dramas that are somehow both sweetly charming and staggeringly psychotic, sometimes at the same time. Join Kommissar Hjuler and Mama Bär as they perform acts of banal heroics, like exploring the basement... taking their son for a bicycle ride... walking with a red shirt into a field of cattle... pondering reforms made to the Danish police system... all viewed through the unhinged lens. Kommissar Hjuler & Mama Bär are painters, sculptors, film-makers and musicians based in Flensberg, Germany, near the Danish border. Their artwork has been exhibited in galleries and at festivals around the world. They collaborated with like-minded artists such as Thurston Moore, Arnulf Meifert, John Weise, Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock, Jan Iwers and Af Ursin, among many others." "Asylum Lunaticum is not just another name or title, its an almost too harmless a description of the family Hjuler/Bar. Over decades, Kommisar Hjuler provided me with his sick but mind-blowing art. So rare their works are, its truly time to dig em out and show the world! This CD shall do so." -- Rudolf Eb.er (R&G/Schimpfluch-Commune Int.)

Artist: NMPERIGN/JASON LESCALLEET
Title: Love Me Two Times
Format: Double CD
Label: Intransitive
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"The highly anticipated double-CD epic by Jason Lescalleet (tape loops) and nmperign (Bhob Rainey - soprano sax, and Greg Kelley - trumpet). The result of six years of live and studio collaboration, LM2X is by far the most ambitious and uncompromising statement yet by this formidable trio. The album begins as a more-or-less straight documentary-style recording of group improvisation, but dont get too comfortable... over the course of the next two hours, the ground steadily shifts, the bottom drops out, and any expectations a listener may have had going in are thoroughly trampled. Fans will find the usual ingredients here: crusty old reel-to-reel tape decks, cheap keyboards, amplified and acoustic horns...but rude tape splices, violent humor, and confusingly degraded fidelity push the music far from safe territory. The visceral drama of LM2X does not neatly spell out its intentions, nor does it signal exactly what it has up its sleeve. It exists in its own universe, demands repeat listens and to be taken on its own terms." - Intransitive.

Artist: MAMMATUS
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Invada
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
2006 release. "MAMMATUS are a new four piece rock band from Santa Cruz, California. The album consists of four long tracks, the longest, "Dragon of the Deep Part 2" clocks in at a staggering 25 minutes long. With an excess of fuzz and wah noise they manage to combine all the best b-its of 70s psychedelic rock with the sonic attack of early Monster Magnet as they simultaneously enter the realm of heavy drone sludge rock. The sleeve of this album was crafted by ARIK ROPER who has also worked with likes of Sleep, Sunn O))), Comets on Fire and Arthur Magazine. Since forming at the begining of 2005 Mammatus have been playing regularly in their native town of Santa Cruz and in venues in San Fransisco, which has gathered them lots of praise and interest. They are embarking on an intense nation wide tour with their friends Residual Echoes this summer." -Holy Mountain. Limited UK vinyl editon.

Price: $25.00
"Split record between Oaklands Inca Ore (Eva Saelens of Alarmist, Jackie-O Motherfucker, prior releases include BRUTE NATURE VS WILD MAGIC, The Birds in the Bushes, Birthday of Bless You) and Portlands Grouper (Liz Harris of Grouper, Krueger, Badgerlore, prior releases include Way Their Crept, Wide, Cover the Windows and the Walls and Dragging a Dead Deer Up A Hill). This split was a collaboration put together during the late winter of 2007 while both were living in Portland. Evas material was made in Morelia, Mexico during and inspired by a journey through that part of the world earlier that same winter. Her side is a return to Eva performing solo, lonely and haunting. The sounds of feeling tried, and of exploring some dark realm of the spirit are apparent, and quite beautiful to listen to. A chorus of distorted cave-bound vocals, melodies that soar upwards and float back down into horror film loops. Groupers side finds a return to the Wurlitzer keyboard, fragmented and layered. Songs separate and return to meet in uprooted refrains, at once disarming and soothing. Similar sense of some grey kind of journey rooted in both physical and ethereal worlds. Self-released by Eva and Liz." - IOG. First pressing (brown jacket).

"Self-released second vinyl pressing of the split by Inca Ore and Grouper. Initially self-released on tape in 2007. This version has new black and white artwork. Though its a proper split, each side resonates strongly with the other--hissing and dream-sick, songs whispered in the dark. Inca Ores side is feverish and haunted, much of it recorded while on a somewhat nightmarish journey taken through Mexico several years ago. Groupers side is distorted and pitch-twisted Wurlitzer and guitar songs, recorded during a rain heavy winter, about unexplainable disappearances, invisible structures." - IOG.

Format: 4CD Box Set
Label: Irdial
Country: UK
Price: $58.00
Repress now available of this all-time cult classic shortwave radio transmission CD. "Numbers stations are found all over the shortwave spectrum. They emit unusual transmissions of synthesized voices reading sets of phonetic letters and or numbers. The origin of these stations is in dispute. Their purpose is unclear. There are many dozens of different signal types on the air, each run by different organizations. Some of these organizations should have been closed down after the end of the cold war, yet they continue to transmit like clockwork. No one has ever compiled a set of numbers stations recordings for sale to the public. Until now. The Conet Project: a quadruple CD of 150 recordings covering 25 years of numbers station activity, with detailed logs, essays, and a definitive lookup table of all known numbers stations, including morse numbers stations. An invaluable and fascinating resource for all listeners, this is the definitive reference work on the mysterious field of numbers stations, containing very rare recordings from as early as 1971 and up to date examples of currently operating stations. The quadruple CD comes with an 80 page perfect bound booklet in two jewel cases, with a post card." - Irdial. Very highly recommended!!

Its original release in 1997 was unprecedented and completely unexpected. No one had heard of "Numbers Stations" before The Conet Project, and its release baffled everyone who heard it. But it struck a chord. The unique sonic qualities and astonishing variety of The Conet Projects recordings, combined with the clandestine origin of Numbers Stations and the meticulous research in the accompanying booklet combined to form a release that resonated strongly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Now 15 years later, Irdial-Discs is re-releasing this ground-breaking and legendary work in a new updated edition, featuring a fifth disc containing a set of 26 carefully selected examples of Shortwave "Noise Stations" sourced from the private tape archive of Akin Fernandez, the Conet Projects creator. If shortwave radio transmissions were nested like a Matroska, the outermost doll would comprise the ordinary government-licensed broadcasts that transmit propaganda and music. Next down would be the licensed Hams and Utility Stations used by shipping, weather and hobbyists. Then come the Numbers Stations; the unlicensed and unacknowledged communications from government agencies to spies in the field. Innermost of all of these are the completely abstract "Noise Stations" that have no point of human reference, other than that they can be heard. These Noise Stations sometimes consist of irregular and rare data-modes, and as such can be put into a context, but in other instances, Noise Stations have no plausible explanation at all. Some are clearly being transmitted because there is a carrier wave and are not natural Earth or space noises, but the content of the signal is without any obvious utility. For example, we present a recording that consists only of a loosely rhythmic "clacking" sound, that is similar to a man playing claves. When live on air, this broadcast went on for hours without interruption, only to suddenly cease without any discernible message of any kind. Another example is track No. 2, for which we have no explanation. It was only heard once, went on without interruption for at least three days, and then disappeared. It appears to be a highly complex encrypted data mode of some kind, but is unlike any sound normally associated with data modes. A true mystery. As is the case with Numbers Stations, it is very unlikely that some of the more odd Noise Station examples on Disc Five of The Conet Project will ever have a good explanation provided to the public. This is to be expected. After 15 years, the Numbers Station mystery has barely unraveled, save for some isolated glimpses into the mechanics of their operation. Irdial is privileged to be able to present one such rare and extraordinary revelation with "TCP/1111" which can be seen in the booklet of Disc Five. Irdial has obtained photographs of an actual Numbers Station voice machine, as was used in many of the former Communist Block countries. This event is without precedent. Somehow, a German man managed to buy a set of these voice generators, and Irdial has obtained photographs from him of the outside and inside of one of these machines. This machines function is to play sampled voices under the control of a 7-bit ASCII punched paper tape. It is made of widely-available commodity electronic components, and the manufacturers name does not appear on the casing; only two serial numbers "3 2620" and "Nr.8515" and a handwritten "X1.85" appear on the back of an access panel, with English lettering indicating the rear connector functions. The emergence of this machine raises many questions. Who designed and manufactured it? Who sold it? Why were these machines not destroyed after the decommissioning of the stations? And of course, this is only a tiny fraction of the larger picture. Numbers Stations and Noise Stations are a problem and a phenomenon that is ongoing, and that will continue to perplex and fascinate listeners and the curious for decades to come." -Irdial.

"Pretty great albeit confusing new CD by Mssr. Bryant, he of MEV and the Space Guitar, once again in fact eschewing said guitar and utilizing what appears to be some recordings of thunderstorms followed by some wonderfully primitive electronics. Like the title says this seems to be a meditation on Darwinism on the cellular level, all of the squishy and gurgly electronics mirroring (perhaps) the soundtrack of the alleged primordial ooze, and given that premise and the pedigree of the man behind the curtain, how can you go wrong? Easily the best music concerning microbes since the Incredible String Bands A Very Cellular Song. In addition its packaged with a wonderful broadsheet exhorting the virtues of phonetic spelling and mandatory organic chemistry classes for all. Still confused? Title: Space Tecno
Format: CD
Label: IRML
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
Solo electronics from the ex-member of MEV. Primitive xerox sleeve in jewel case, ala previous IRML documents. "Contemporary electronic musings from this MEV founder and producer of arguably the finest electric-guitar-process-as-musique-concrete-slab in the history of such an amalgam (that would be the Space Guitars CD on CRI). Despite the slightly sickening title, involved musics have less to do with tecno than, say, a selection of gold doubloons found off the Ivory Coast. Musically, these multi tracked solo synthesizer tracks (sonically akin to bending concave/convex sheets of hard vinyl) overlap in a most pleasing/mystically organized way. Liners feature new phonetically challenged texts to baffle in-laws and fans alike. Trance-inducing." - Hrvatski.

"Bryant was an original member of the legendary 60s improvisational ensemble MEV (Musica Elettronica Viva). He later took up invented guitar language, releasing an infamous album on CRI (currently available as CRI CD 699); this new CD, self-released on his own new label, continues in the spirit of Space Guitars -- droning, long-string-like ambiance, space-pulse variations, all embedded in some of the deepest fields of cosmic invention that the current musical universe can offer. A music that Bryant claims is about whirling, speeding, smashing space particles and stormy, exploding matter -- a drama that touches our very existence, origins and being -- or not being. (I paraphrase, his unique personal spelling methods are much more exotic). Im sure this will add up as one of the quintessential personal documents of recent times." - IRML.

Artist: JOHNSON, DENNIS
Title: November
Format: 4 CD Boxset
Label: Irritable Hedgehog/Penultimate
Country: UK
Price: $32.00
"First recording of Dennis Johnsons 5-hour minimalist masterpiece, November. Until recently, one of the most substantial and significant pieces of the minimalist repertoire was virtually unknown. Written in 1959 by Dennis Johnson, November was purportedly six hours long as originally conceived. La Monte Young, who knew Johnson while at UCLA in the late 50s, credited the piece for inspiring The Well-Tuned Piano. November anticipated many trends in minimalist music in addition to its prodigious duration: diatonic tonality, additive processes, and repetition of small motives. It is beautiful, slow-paced, and introspective, and was nearly lost entirely. Penultimate Press and Irritable Hedgehog are proud to announce the first ever release of this historically significant and thoroughly engaging work. Kyle Gann rescued November from obscurity, reconstructing the piece from the only existing materials: a hiss-ridden, 112-minute cassette recording played by Dennis Johnson himself (which Gann received from La Monte Young) and a rough score he received from Johnson. The score, such as it is, consists of several pages of short musical ideas, meant to be improvised upon as desired by the performer. Flexible instructions are also given for the order of the material to be performed. Pianist R. Andrew Lee has established himself in recent years as one of the foremost interpreters of the minimalist piano repertoire and has boldly embraced the challenge of this monumental work. Utilizing Ganns reconstructed score, he has recorded a sublime interpretation which finally documents one of the most important lost works in the 20th century canon. At once highly listenable, melancholic, warm and unique, Dennis Johnsons November is a work of immense historical significance that will appeal to those with a taste for 20th century repertoire, minimalism, exploratory piano works, and substantial and haunting works of art. November comes in a deluxe box with 4 cds in individual slipcases and a 20 page booklet featuring reproductions the original score (and Johnsons later annotations) along with an essay on the work by noted critic Kyle Gann and anecdotal essays by Andy Lee, David McIntire and Mark Harwood."- Penultimate Press.

Title: Eclipse
Format: CD
Label: Iskra
Country: Japan
Price: $20.00
Masayuki Takayanagi: guitar; Kenji Mori: alto sax, flute, recorder; Nobuyoshi Ino: bass Hiroshi Yamazaki: drums, percussion. "Long-awaited reissue of a true masterpiece of Japanese free improvisation! Mastered from the rediscovered master tapes! Recorded in May 1975, less than a month after the legendarily intense April is the Cruellest Month, Eclipse has always been the rarest and most mysterious of the Takayanagi and New Direction records. With April Is... due to come out on ESP Disk (the release was scuppered when the label folded), Iskra the small label who were putting out Eclipse decided to reduce their pressing to just 100 copies. The original master tapes then vanished, and original copies of the LP began to change hands for huge sums on the collectors market. Eclipse sees the same group that recorded April Is... and the two volumes of Axis playing at a dizzying peak of telepathic empathy. Grimly ratcheted tension, whooping freedom, slash and burn explosions, and the unmistakable hovering, molten whine of Takayanagis guitar... simply put a classic, classic record that needs to be heard by anyone with an ear for freedom sounds." -Alan Cummings

"Wrapped in the searing red-line of low-end distortion, the dualic Pinx are entombed for the first time on polyvinyl. Even as a duo, the cavernous cacophony of their sinusoids are preserved; null waves of guitar shreddery percolate every trough and groove while a pounding machine gun fires upon skin-covered cylinders into adjective-oblivion. Dired-Out captures their corse ritual with precise dignity, offering two minutes of harsh improv before descending into a swinging western narrative with droning vocals and pulsating guitar rhythms, ushering our frayed minds into a static groove. Title: Remissions
Format: Double LP
Label: Isounderscore
Country: USA
Price: $28.00
"Dimmers Remissions is the second full-length album from longtime sonic architects of interactive feedback circuits, Thomas Dimuzio and Joseph Hammer. This 2xLP effectively represents four side-long pieces from their live shows throughout California taken place between 2006 and 2007. Essentially a follow-up to their 2007 album on Los Angeles Melon Expander, Remissions expands upon the immense recursive tape looping and resampling that is found inherent in their work but achieves a weight and time displacement that greatly overshadows their dark preceding full-length. All four pieces were recorded at: Norcal Noisefest in Sacramento (2006, Sky Wire), The Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco (2006, Sun Dog), The Smell in Los Angeles (2006, Gases That Emit Light), and ArtSFs Noise Pancakes Series (2007, Giant Eagle). Live sampling, processing, feedback, looping by Thomas Dimuzio. Tape manipulation and processing by Joseph Hammer. Design and layout by Thomas Dimuzio, Joseph Hammer and Brandon Nickell. Limited to 500 copies on full-color sleeves with cover photography by John Dalton." -Isounderscore

Title: TXRF
Format: Double LP
Label: Its
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) is a method used to analyze the surfaces of materials by firing extremely flat X-rays. Subsequently, the physicist Joachim Knoth (1941-2004) developed a patent for precise measurement of defects in semiconductor chips. In 10 sequenced-based electronic miniatures, Felix Kubin, who presently consists of dangerous uninsulated powerlines, conducts the TXRF through an acoustical test arrangement. The experiment consists solely of a synthesizer, filter and sequencer. Full-bodied consecutive organisms arise out of which kaleidoscopic iridescent blossoms sprout. At times they appear as acoustic by-products of high energy discharges on an X-ray picture and sometimes as quiescent fluorescent images. Who knows when the experiment will come to an end? Will X-rays break at irregularities? Will transparent ears crawl over fixtures and make laboratory benches corrode? In view of the entire events musical beauty, all these questions are completely unimportant. Felix Kubin is one of electronic musics most dynamic and versatile personalities. A love-child of the home recording era, his various experiments and epithets include radio playwright, composer of Futurist and Dadatronic experimental pop as well as chamber orchestra music, filmmaker, incendiary performer, record label owner, lecturer and curator. He has made artwork in all sorts of fields since the 1980s, after studying media art at the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Enschede, Netherlands and illustration/animation at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. Kubins music is saturated with enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century avant-garde music." -Its.
