Title: Sounds of Silence
Format: LP
Label: Alga Marghen
Country: Italy
Price: $30.00
2017 repress. "Sounds of Silence is an anthology of some of the most intriguing silent tracks in recording history and includes rare works, among others, by Andy Warhol, John Lennon, Maurice Lemaitre, Sly & The Family Stone, Robert Wyatt, John Denver, Whitehouse, Orbital, Crass, Ciccone Youth, Afrika Bambaataa and of course, Yves Klein. In their own quiet way, these silences speak volumes: they are performative, political, critical, abstract, poetic, cynical, technical, absurd. They can be intended as a memorial or a joke, a special offer, or something entirely undefined. The carefully-chosen silences of this anthology are intrinsically linked to the medium of reproduction itself and reveal its nude materiality. They expose their medium in all its facets and imperfections, including the effect of time and wear. At the most basic level, these silences are surfaces. And it is in their materiality that they distinguish themselves from the conceptual experiments of John Cage with "4 33". Since the 1950s, silence has found a place in the economic structure of the record industry and since then it would increasingly be appropriated by a vast array of artists in a vast array of contexts. Indeed, the silent tracks seem to know no boundaries. The LP presents the silences as they were originally recorded, preserving any imperfection that the hardware conferred upon the enterprise, without banning the possibility of being satisfying to the ear. The liner notes provide historical background for each track, revealing the stated (or presumed) motivations for these silences, while providing novel sound correspondences or interferences. This album is meant to be played loud (or not), at any time, in any place: a true aural experience. Only 250 copies available for distribution, in a gatefold iconic sleeve." - Alga Marghen.

Artist: GILLIS, ANNE
Title: Archives Box 1983-2005
Format: 5 CD Box
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $52.00
“As though pursuing the smallest of impulses to their logical end-points, French composer Manon Anne Gillis began creating sound works and performances in the mid 1980s that were simultaneously quotidian and theatrical.
This is the first archival release to cover her work in its entirety: from the 1983 Devils Picnic release, right up to her 2005 installations and exhibitions. This 5CD box includes all of her albums on the (CRI)2, DMA2 and Rangehen labels, her only collaborative single with G.X. Jupitter-Larsen, most of her compilation tracks (minus a few where the original master tapes have gone missing), and 11 previously unreleased tracks. This is dense and detailed work, ripe with ancient dreams, bodily functions, darkness, secrets, and beautiful seclusion.
All tracks newly remastered by Colin Potter in 2015. Boxset including disk sleeves with the original artwork and a 20-page booklet.Limited edition of 500.” - Art Into Life.

Title: Roadless Travel

To rectify this situation, Art Into Life has decided to release Roadless Travel, his latest album. The album comes with a dense 24 page booklet of liner notes (essentially a full history of Hammer) by T. Sakaguchi, who has enjoyed a long friendship with him and is the foremost Japanese historian of the LAFMS scene." - Art Into Life.

Artist: LEWIS, JOSEPH AND DAVID STEANS
Title: Our Demons and Our Demons 2
Format: CD/DVD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $17.00
"John Mylotte (aka Sir Ashleigh Grove) is the leader of the ultra-mysterious cult group Metgumbnerbone, which also includes Richard and Philip Rupenus of The New Blockaders. This is a heretical two-part work, entitled "Our Demons 1 & 2", and was filmed on mini-DV cameras by Mylottes friends David Steans and Joseph Lewis. The films capture various ritualistic actions performed by ten masked individuals, somewhere in the blasted landscape of England. The films overflow with a warped humour, confusing the viewer as to the participants real intentions. The background music weaves an even more cultic atmosphere - not noise, but a kind of self-imagined trad folk. This version comes with an additional, stand-alone, remastered CD of the soundtrack. Only a small proportion of the soundtrack was used for the final cut of the film, so this is the only place where you can hear the full soundtrack. Highly recommended for all devotees of Metgumbnerbones uniquely eccentric sensibilities! Hardboard cover with tarot card prints by Joseph Lewis, and liner notes. Limited edition of 150." - Art Into Life.

Title: Le Rocanrolorama Abrege
Format: Double LP + CD
Label: Because Music
Country: France
Price: $28.00
"Gatefold sleeve. Includes CD. Le Rocanrolorama Abrege is a clear perspective on Pascal Comelades musical universe; it can be considered an ultimate "best of" and a radical introduction to this chaotic and uncompromising instrumental music. Rocanrolorama Abrégé (abbreviated "rockandrolorama", in English) is the short version of the complete works and reworks of Pascal Comelade, published at the end of 2016 as a six-CD box set, in a limited edition of 1000, numbered and signed copies (BEC 5156515). Pascal Comelade made this album as if it was a new and separate album, with tracks that he considers to best represent his work, from 1993 to 2016, according to the principle applied with the Rocanrolorama box set: songs in their original form, alternative versions, reworks, additions. Le Rocanrolorama Abrégé was conceived with the double LP format in mind: four sides with six tracks each, which you can listen to in the right order, from start to finish, according to a logical, thought-out progression for each side (slow tempo, medium tempo, orchestrations, electricity, etc.), paying tribute to the concept behind the collection rhythm and blues formidable." - Because Music.

Artist: CHERRY, DON
Title: Music, Wisdom, Love 1969
Format: LP
Label: Cacophonic
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"Reaching a near-mythical status amongst fans of free jazzs most worldly intrepid explorer, these seldom heard Paris soundtrack sessions known as Music, Wisdom, Love have evaded collectors grasps and confused historians for exactly 50 years. Instigated in Paris in 1967 and filmed during Don Cherrys downtime on a visit to the Chat qui Pêche nightclub in March 1967, where he played with Karl Berger, Henri Texier, and Jacques Thollot, the bulk of this cinematic portrait was filmed on the streets of Paris under the direction of creative all-rounders Jean-Noël Delamarre and Nathalie Perrey, who, as their careers bloomed, would become pivotal figures in underground French cinema - straddling La Nouvelle Vague, adult entertainment, and cinema fantastique in what can only be described as speedball cinema. As the supportive creative family that primarily played home to French vampire/horrortica director Jean Rollin, both Nathalie and Jean-Noël, his brother Jean-Philippe Delamarre and a small team of other fans of oblique media would be responsible for a vibrant micro-culture that awkwardly flourished on the outskirts on the Parisian new wave - combining comic book culture, Lettrism, sexual liberation, psychedelic rock, graphic design, and, with this record as prime example, free jazz and avant-garde music. What previously might have been regarded as an unlikely coupling, with the benefit of half a century of archival hindsight, this release documents the essential cosmic collision of two fantastic planets. Available here for the first time ever and licensed from producer and director Jean-Noël Delamarre himself." - Cacophonic.

Artist: HENRY, PIERRE
Title: Maléfices
Format: LP
Label: Cacophonic
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
“Cacophonic presents Maléfices, an outstanding film score by Pierre Henry, often overlooked in lists of the composers work. The score is a dream record for fans of early electronics, female vocal manipulation, and horror soundtracks. Widely recognized as one of the original sonic architects of the movement known as musique concrète (having joined Pierre Schaeffers initiative as early as 1949), Pierre Henry was arguably the first musician to entertain the notion of this defiant musical revolution coexisting with traditional and popular music. Initially using the media of modern dance and spoken word as a platform to contextualize his tape-music mutations (notably in unison with Maurice Bejart), Henrys fusion of academic with thematic ideas led to the birth of electronic sound design for film and theatre, exemplified most prevalently in the macabre. His score for Henri Decoins 1962 film Maléfices (Where the Truth Lies) (starring Juliette Gréco) is the missing link between his earliest avant-garde recordings and his later celebrated pop experiments with Michel Colombier and Spooky Tooth. It rivals such cinematic sound as Daphne Orams work for Jack Claytons 1961 horror film The Innocents, and features Henry at what is perhaps his most melodic, fragile, and enchanting (especially for this unforgiving, formative era in his career). Layering vocal tape loops and gossamer feminine voice treatments with plucked strings, white noise wind, and brooding, industrial treated piano textures, Henry magnifies the films intoxicated, hallucinatory narrative. This concise set of complete themes is presented here, fully remastered for the first time, alongside rare excerpts from two of the composers very earliest and least obtainable forays into theatrical sound design: instrumental parts of Henrys first stereo reconstruction of Maurice Bejarts 1961 ballet Orphée, and his seldom-heard concrète interludes from Darius Milhaud and Max Gérards opera Mariage de la Feuille et du Cliché (1958).” - Cacophonic.

Title: Underwater Kites
Format: LP
Label: Color Tapes
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
“Guitar, drum machine and keyboards creating a calm yet dark atmosphere, sometimes psychedelic and no way mellow. Truly a great lost gem!” —Mutant Sounds.
"Welcome to the darkly enchanting minimal synth-pop and psych-tinged world of The Modern Art. As an introduction to the world of Coil and Current 93 collaborator Gary Ramon and his orbiting bandmates, you cant do better. Formed by Ramon in the early 1980s, Modern Art released two albums on vinyl, and a significant amount of impossible-to-find cassettes. Some of this material was compiled in a highly regarded 3-LP (sold out) box set, made in 2013 by Vinyl on Demand. This remastered reissue of Underwater Kites, their very first cassette album, originally released in 1982, also includes three previously unissued tracks from that session. On this album you will find examples of what was going on in England during the pinnacle of the post-punk scene—an inspired time that encouraged young musicians to develop music influenced by the likes of Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and Clock DVA. Limited edition of 500 copies and comes with poster insert." - Lion Productions.

Artist: MYSTERY PLANE
Title: Still Life
Format: LP
Label: Color Tapes

Price: $18.00
Limited to 250 copies. "Mystery Plane formed in 1980 from the ashes of 70s new wave band 3D5 whos line-up also featured future Cure member Porl Thompson. This record was originally a demo cassette made in 1981 that was hawked around record labels with a view for release. Later Color Tapes released a 100 copies edition. To support their demo at the time the band played such gigs at the Marquee, Rock Garden and The Bridgehouse supporting bands such as Fad Gadget, Modern English and Henry Padovani (Ex-Police) in London. This sublime minimal basement krauty synth LP was inspired by bands such as Neu, Amon Duul ll, and "Vienna" period Ultravox. The album features guitar work of Gerald O Connell who was a big fan of Ash Ra Tempels guitarist Manuel Gottsching. A year later he went on to form Lives Of Angels who made the classic cold wave album "Elevator To Eden" which was originally released on Color Tapes in 1983. Mystery Plane have been featured on the sold out Cold Waves Of Color compilation series. The album has been remastered by Denis Blackham and comes complete with a poster insert." - Color Tapes.

Title: Cold Waves of Color
Format: LP
Label: Color Tapes
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
“A superb album, compiling electronic synth pop, cold wave and minimal tracks from the Color Tapes label, spanning 1981-1985. The Color Tapes label was the brainchild of a young Gary Ramon after being inspired by cassette labels such as Fuck Off Tapes, Weird Noise and other underground UK labels; also by the music of the late 70s and early 80s such as Cabaret Voltaire, Suicide, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Throbbing Gristle, Fad Gadget, as well as electronic musicians such as John Cage, La Monte Young, Stockhausen, Pierre Henry, Moondog, and others. The tracks from this compilation originally came out only on limited cassette runs of 100 copies sold at gigs, mail order and record shops such as Small Wonder Records. The majority of these tracks from these UK garage cold wave bands used mostly synthesizer, drum machines and sequencers such as EMS VCS3, Minimoog, Korg MS-20, Roland Juno 6, SH-09, TR-808. Remastered from original analogue source tapes by Denis Blackham, this is a must-have collection for electronic, synth and cold wave collectors. Includes a full colour illustrated poster of all the cassette sleeves (70+ releases) made by the label between 1979-1986.” - Color Tapes.

Title: Cold Waves Of Color Volume 3
Format: LP
Label: Color Tapes
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
"Latest collection of rare cold wave from the Color Tapes archives also includes a full colour poster plus a rare reprint of issue 2 of Color Tapes own Purple Twilight fanzine from 1985, featuring articles on bands such as Bushido and Mystery Plane, plus The Subway Organization cassette catalogue from 1985. An essential document from the 80s UK cassette underground scene. Praise for the series: “Must have collection of English post-punk synth rarities, sourced from the legendary Color Tapes label, remastered by Denis Blackham, all presented on vinyl for the first time! Its highly likely that these tracks have been barely heard beyond their original 100 edition tape pressings in the early 80s, and thusly this is a bit of a treasure trove, especially when considering the quality of the masters. This is the realest deal for people into minimal wave, Dark Entries and OG wave music. Dont sleep!” – Boomkat review. The majority of these tracks from these UK garage cold wave bands used mostly synthesizer, drum machines and sequencers such as EMS VCS3, Minimoog, Korg MS-20, Roland Juno 6, SH-09, TR-808 – so you know how they could sound. These machines today are part of the history of the development of electronic music in the UK." - Lion Productions.

Title: Nachtflug / Atem des Windes
Format: LP
Label: Edition Telemark
Country: Germany
Price: $29.00
"Peter Behrendsen (b. 1943) is a Cologne-based radio producer, performer, and composer of experimental music. He started concerning himself with electro-acoustic music in 1972. He was a member of Josef Anton Riedls ensemble and an assistant to Klaus Schöning at the WDR radio play studio (Studio for Acoustic Art). In Cologne, he organized numerous concerts and festivals for experimental music, most notably BrückenMusik, a series of concerts in the box girder of the Deutz bridge. He regards John Cage, Alvin Lucier, Jackson Mac Low, and David Tudor as his most important teachers, with whom he also collaborated, and has performed his own live-electronic and text-sound compositions throughout Europe. This LP pairs a live-electronic and a text-sound piece: "Nachtflug" ("Night Flight", 1999) is based on electronic treatment of the sounds of bats made audible, and is performed by Hans W. Koch and Behrendsen. "Atem des Windes" ("Breath of Wind", 1999-2005) is a text-sound composition on the subject of the wind, inspired by a Taoist text by the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi, and features the voices of Bettina Wenzel and Behrendsen. Title: Kanon / Torsi
Format: LP
Label: Edition Telemark
Country: Germany
Price: $29.00
"Ernstalbrecht Stiebler (b. 1934) is a German composer of minimalist and reductionist contemporary music. His name is still most closely associated with his long-time position as radio editor and producer for New Music at the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation (Hessischer Rundfunk), but his own compositional oeuvre -- beginning in 1955 and continuing until now -- has, in recent years, attracted more attention with various concerts and several releases. Having attended the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music from 1958 onwards, Stiebler decided in 1963 to leave serial music behind and opted instead for his own reductionist style built on minimalist structures and repetitions, though not in any way related to the so-called minimal music but rather influenced by minimalism in visual art. In terms of composers of his time, the closest stylistic relationship that could be drawn is to Morton Feldman. Stieblers approach is best summarized in his own words: "Music is too important to burden it with emotions." This LP pairs two organ-based works: "Kanon" (1980) for organ, electric organ and wind instruments, and "Torsi" (2002) for organ in three movements: "Torso", "Organa minima", and "Cantus". The latter recording, made at St. Stephens Church in Konstanz (organ: Hans-Peter Schulz), was previously released on CD by m=minimal (MINIMAL 017CD, 2013). "Kanon" is a previously unreleased recording. Includes an extensive interview conducted by Jens Strüver about Stieblers compositional views and techniques. Gatefold sleeve; Edition of 300." - Edition Telemark.

Artist: I-LP-O IN DUB
Title: Capital Dub Chapter 1
Format: LP
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $22.00
"I-LP-O In Dub is the solo project of Pan Sonic member Ilpo Väisänen. Capital Dub Chapter 1 follows the 2015 debut Communist Dub (EMEGO 203LP) - a year marked by further descent into economic crisis and instability. The usual business cycles of production/distribution/consumption, running alongside macro cycles of boom and bust, have been replaced by ossification, austerity, the machine seizing up. Ilpos "circular riddims" complement the ebb-and-flow of the circulation of money + commodities and are mirrored by his field recordings of Barcelona rain -- the final phase of the cyclical movement of water. But of course the smooth running of "Paradise Capital" is unsustainable. Destroyed techno and open spaces contend with sinister swarming atmospheres. A cash machine flickers. Zeros and ones displace another factory. Dub as decay -- the ghostly remains of tracks eroded by time and technology. The "Invisible Hand" of the market spasms with tremors. Ferocious textural feedback as music for stock exchange crashes. The soundtrack to heaps of money hoarded by the hidden class. Capital is value in motion, but there is nowhere to go. After the collapse, picturesque ruins. Capital Dub Chapter 1 simply asks the question: what next? Influenced by the first part of Karl Marxs Capital (1867). Recorded anytime in there, rain & 808 at Pallars152, Poblenou, Barceloba; Mixed at Juniper & Stone, Kartula, Finland; Mastered at Dubplates & Mastering." - Editions Mego.

Title: Sky Girl
Format: Double LP
Label: Efficient Space
Country: Australia
Price: $28.00
Re-pressed. "Sky Girl is a mysteriously unshakeable companion, a deeply melancholic and sentimental journey through folk-pop, new wave and art music micro presses that span 1961-1991. Its a DIY collection of different genres, from different countries across different decades, that are all bound by the same longing sentiment. A concept compilation! A seemingly disparate suite of selections of forgotten fables by more or less never-knowns, Sky Girl forms a beautifully coherent and utterly sublime whole deftly compiled by French collectors DJ Sundae and Julien Dechery. From Scott Seskinds adolescent musical road movie to Karen Marks icy Oz-wave, the charming DIY storytelling of Italian-American go-getter Joe Tossini and the ethereal slow dance themes of Parisian artists Nini Raviolette and Hugo Weris, Sky Girl resonates on a wide spectrum historically, geographically and stylistically. It unites in a singular, longing, almost intangible ambience. If the names sound wholly unfamiliar that doesnt matter, the nature of the compositions swiftly nurtures an intimacy with these lonely, poignant, openhearted wanderers. Most were available in a very limited capacity at the time of their release, some were never really released at all - Gary Davenport declined to release "Sarra" after he split with the girl for whom the track is named - years later a friend convinced Davenport to allow him to put 100 copies online to sell and DJ Sundae was quick enough to snare one. Beyond their scarcity, these tracks are bound together by a certain raw beauty thats achievable when music is made and no one is listening. Sky Girl comprises of fifteen officially licensed songs, a two year international scavenger hunt through long-folded home label operations, the depths of internet forums and traceless acetates. Both compilers are well trained record sleuths - DJ Sundaes labels Hollie and Idle Press have reissued Arthur Russell affiliate Nirosta Steel and DIY relic Pitch, while Julien Dechery previously compiled Fire Star, a retrospective on Tamil film composer Ilaiyaraaja, for Bombay Connection. Released by popular NTS show "Noise In My Head" offshoot Efficient Space, Sky Girl is enriched with artwork from Perks and Mini mutant Misha Hollenbach and appropriately elegant sleeve notes courtesy of Ivan Smagghe. Includes digital download. Also features: Linda Smith, Bruce Langhorne, The Seraphims, Some of My Best Friends Are Canadians, The Rising Storm, Warfield Spillers, Joyce Heath, Angel, Nora Guthrie and Once." - Efficient Space.

Artist: MANSON, CHARLES
Title: Sings
Format: LP
Label: ESP-Disk
Country: USA
Price: $26.00
"ESP-Disk present a reissue of Charles Mansons Sings, originally released as Lie: The Love and Terror Cult in 1970. Charles Manson visited New York City in the early 60s with his guitar and his songs in a vain search for recognition. Later, he had better luck in Beverly Hills, where famous musicians let him use their studio to produce this album. He has vocal backup from the women of the "family". During a stay in a San Francisco prison, he met a fellow inmate and gave him the album to release. While Manson was being tried and convicted of participation in his notorious murder spree, the government attempted to discredit the hippie movement by citing him as an example, hoping to stem the rising tide of anger among the population over the war in Vietnam. This album has achieved cult status among connoisseurs of 60s folk-rock. Personnel: Charles Manson - lead vocals, rhythm guitar, tympani; Bobby Beausoleil - electric guitar; Paul Watkins - French horn; Catherine Shore - violin; Dianne Lake - recorder; Steve Grogan - electric bass; Mary Brunner - flute, vocals on "People Say Im No Good"; Nancy Pittman - vocals on "Arkansas"; Sandra Good, Catherine Share, Lynette Fromme, Nancy Pittman and Cho-Cho - backup vocals. Presented here on red vinyl." - ESP-Disk.

Artist: DIE TODLICHE DORIS
Title: " "
Format: LP
Label: Etats-Unis
Country: USA
Price: $27.00
"Die Tödliche Doris was born out of West Berlins lively post-punk community in the early 80s. Along with Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria, Sprung Aus Den Wolken and Frieder Butzmann, Die Tödliche Doris ranks amongst the Geniale Dilletanten -- which roughly translates as ingenious dilettantes -- who sought to democratize cultural productions beyond the grip of both Western capitalism and GDR socialism. The Geniale Dilletanten became synonymous with a free-for-all approach to music, film, painting and performance where participants encouraged raw expression through provocation and experimentation. Wolfgang Müller and Nikolaus Utermöhlen founded Die Tödliche Doris in 1980, presenting the public persona of Doris as a constantly shifting entity that deliberately engaged the contradictions of the human condition. The band often referenced themselves in the third person singular, alluding to Doris as a fully-formed female character with explosive, colorful emotions. For her debut album -- originally released on Zickzack in 1982 and playfully titled " " (that is, blank space surrounded by quotation marks) -- Doris most closely entertains the notion of a typical rock band with drums, bass and guitar. Produced by Neubautens Blixa Bargeld, the thirteen songs presented here are disquieting lullabies of profound anxiety, savage and primitive deconstructions of German polka and manic lacerations of punk minimalism: all reflections of the many and fractured personalities of Doris. This first-time vinyl reissue includes a reproduction of the original 24-page booklet. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl." - Etats-Unis.

Artist: DOCKSTADER, TOD
Title: Eight Electronic Pieces
Format: LP
Label: Etats-Unis
Country: USA
Price: $27.00
"Originally self-released in 1961 and later issued by Folkways, Tod Dockstaders Eight Electronic Pieces is a foundational document of American electronic music and a stunning first work from this revolutionary composer. Refused access to the resources and funding of the academy and without any interest from the record industry, Dockstader assembled his debut album through three years of his own private labor -- recording after-hours at the New York radio station where he worked. Dockstaders approach was informed by the laboratory experiments of his European contemporaries Edgar Varèse and Pierre Schaefer as well as by the aleatory compositional techniques and neo-dadaist aesthetics of John Cage. While Dockstader famously described his music as organized sound, Eight Electronic Pieces is not pure musique concrète. Oscillators pulse and clash with fragments of incidental tape music, leaving collages of sound as tuneful and memorable as they are otherworldly. A visionary debut that presages the abstract ambience of modern IDM and an essential addition to any collection of early electronic music. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl." - Etas-Unis.

Artist: JONES, JOE
Title: In Performance
Format: LP
Label: Etats-Unis
Country: USA
Price: $27.00
"After studying with composers John Cage and Earle Brown, Joe Jones became a prominent figure in Fluxus, contributing to the movements first yearbox alongside La Monte Young, György Ligeti and Nam June Paik. Beginning in late 1961, Jones began constructing his own music machines -- drawing inspiration from the calliopes, automata and orchestrations of the 19th and early 20th century to create self-playing ensembles of stringed instruments, percussion and woodwinds -- played through an elaborate (yet decidedly lo-tech) system of rubber bands, balls and tin foil. Christened the Tone Deaf Music Company, this battery of automated musical instruments generates the sounds on In Performance (originally released in 1977 on the Harlequin Art imprint). With exacting conceptual precision and varied subtleties of natural motion -- not unlike Harry Bertoias sounding sculptures -- Jones machines produce richly-textured strata of sound and serve as engines of paradox. While bringing the figure of the artist-composer to the foreground, the machines ultimately dispense with the need for the performer entirely -- a cunning subversion of the fetish for virtuosity and individual genius. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl." - Etats-Unis.

Artist: LE FORTE FOUR
Title: Bikini Tennis Shoes
Format: LP
Label: Etats-Unis
Country: USA
Price: $29.00
"The origins of Le Forte Four are those of the Los Angeles Free Music Society itself. Chip Chapman joined forces with Rick Potts (and shortly thereafter Tom and Joe Potts), taking up the LAFMS name in 1974. Ultimately baptizing themselves Le Forte Four, they began threading imagined lines between John Cage and The Residents, Cecil Taylor and Henry Cow -- generating sounds completely unlike any of these and anything since. The inaugural release on the eponymous LAFMS imprint with only 200 copies pressed originally, Bikini Tennis Shoes is a staggering piece of anti-music that remains as refreshingly ground-clearing today as it was when it first appeared in 1975. Its 40 minutes (parceled out across nearly as many tracks) chart forays into free improvisation, Buchla misuse, filtered noise, begrudging and damaged melodic sorties (from the Star-Spangled Banner to Stravinskys The Rite of Spring) and healthy doses of basement pablum. Le Forte Four emerged out of the lethargic American 70s as a locus where, in their own words, gamelans and ragas merged with serial and chance compositions finally melting together with instructional records and Beatles bootlegs. A wildly eclectic rummaging of postwar culture and 20th century sound, Le Forte Fours Bikini Tennis Shoes preempts punks outsider ethos and DIY autodidactism. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl." - Etats-Unis.

Title: Highlights Of Vortex
Format: LP
Label: Etats-Unis
Country: USA
Price: $27.00
"The brainchild of visual artist Jordan Belson and electronics polymath Henry Jacobs, the Vortex Experiments ran from 1957 to 1960, first at San Franciscos Morrison Planetarium and later at the SF Museum of Art. The very name of these events announced their aim: a swirling totality of sensory experience. Around Belsons richly-colored visuals -- making use of the planetariums entire dome and featuring luminous, sharply geometric imagery projected through an array of devices -- Jacobs ringed a system of roughly 40 multidirectional loudspeakers, each of which could be precisely controlled to produce, in the words of one reviewer, a living theater of sound and light. A landmark recording in the history of electronic tape music and an engrossing artifact of proto-psychedelia, Highlights Of Vortex gathers recordings designed for the Vortex system by Jacobs and collaborators David Talcott, William Loughborough, and Gordon Longfellow. Source material including free improvisation, field recording, classical Indian instrumentation, West African polyrhythms and musique concrète is transmogrified through tape manipulation, atomizing swathes of reverb and delay, and other live and recorded effects, making dramatic use of the monumental Vortex soundsystem. An unprecedented marriage of image and sound, Vortex Experiments exercised immeasurable impact on the imagination and practice of countless experimental visual and sonic artists so this album is a must for fans of such visionaries as Stan Brakhage, Tony Conrad, and Jack Smith. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl." - Etas-Unis.

Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Ever/Never
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Punk in the age of infinite duplication. Endless algorithms -- strands of digital DNA wrapping like loose cords around the arteries of daily life. We find ourselves mannequin-ed -- gazing longingly at the constant churn of street life; a simulacrum of stimulation. All the dense paranoias of the 20th century have shadow-walked their way right up to our 21st century doorstep and they are quietly picking the lock while we fritter away the hours in the room with the screens. What to do about this concealed drudgery? Where to turn in these bleak hours? How can we break the chains of routine, the labor of labour? Perhaps at this late date, it would be naive to state: “We can listen to Housewives.” What decade is this? How can music still inspire concentrated thought while satisfying its inherent physical demands? Rock music is intended to be functional. Postpunk music is music for doing. Housewives are a band that does; and the content is not mere window-dressing. Housewives are: Industrious music for industrious people. A few years ago, London, Englands Housewives, in the finest of postpunk traditions, began making an intensely focused racket. Their debut took the form of a five-song limited-edition cassette put out by Faux Discx. This self-titled EP had a startling power and hypnotic force that is all too rare in this era of practiced disaffection. Instead of pretending to be bored by this evershifting world, Housewives approach revealed a microscopic attention to detail. Despite their using the traditional instruments of rock n roll, Housewives invert these powerful totems to their own ends. This is music that earns its praise from such high priests of refusal as Charles Hayward (This Heat, Camberwell Now). Like an Adam Curtis documentary, Housewives is music that takes on social constructs, looking for a way to disassemble these ridiculous structures. With it biting lyrics lampooning a lad who is “racist when its funny,” bracing opener “Poppy” seems to anticipate Brexit. As the bass throb surges through your system like a blood rush, perhaps you need to rethink your stance on what is and what is not important in the current supercut of media and politics. “In Camera” traffics in impossible clockwork rhythms -- they grind against each other, gathering momentum until the band sounds like an overworked machine on the verge of exploding. “Medicine Bottle” is the closest thing Housewives will serve you to a hit. The no wave guitar spasms -- like a coil snapped by sudden pressure -- collide with the rhythm section in the middle of a congested city. The claustrophobia summoned by the track is hardly offset by the snaking interjections of a saxophone. If anything, this presence of breath reinforces the sensation of necessary and cathartic exertion. Courtesy of New York Citys Ever/Never Records, the unjustly-ignored debut by one of the top operating postpunk bands worldwide, has found a home on wax. Finally, this previously extremely-limited cassette is given the format it deserves. Delivered at a volume-enhancing 45 rpms, Housewives 12” EP is a diamond-hard gem of postpunk. “Almost Anything” shows just how locked-in to factory mode this band can get. Few modern bands are playing with such sounds and intentions. “62426” is a series of mutating nodes -- like the communications in THX-1138 made manifest in song-form. At times, Housewives recall the best of the UKs postpunk gloom n doom glory days. The rub is -- we are in the future that those bands warned us about. Housewives are the last band standing, forcing our eyes open and demanding that we address the monolithic edifice of modern life." - Ever/Never.

Artist: QUIETUS
Title: Volume Three
Format: LP
Label: Ever/Never
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Quietus sound like the house band at the last bar at the end of the universe, accessible through a secret entrance by way of a whispered password. Their music drifts and arcs, beholden to some unknown gravity, but always threatening to verge—angry and exhausted—out of its orbit, back to chaos. Their third full-length—appropriately entitled Volume Three—practically drowns you in Quietus sensuous world. Theres a lushness to this music that obscures the deep ache at its core. Even in its slightly-abbreviated radio edit, “Your Hidden Swim” swells forth, arms outstretched, only to withdraw, however apologetically. This push-pull dynamic—the contradictions, the paradoxes—fuels Quietus paeans to loneliness and disconnection. Disconsolate. Quietus gives voice and substance to emotions that, to be made manifest, demand the creation of strange, sonic worlds. At times, Quietus is akin to a post-rock take on some of the finer songwriters of our age: The wee-hours-last-cigarette waltz of the late Leonard Cohen; a trace of Nick Caves epic drama; echoes of doomed souls such as Tim Buckley and Townes Van Zandt. Often, the songs bloom into slow-motion climaxes hinting at casual violence. Even when the music swans about and leers at its lovers, there is always the suggestion of a darkness lurking beneath. On “The Souvenir Bruise,” Quietus leader Geoffrey Bankowski sings “The girls been waiting for the damage to get lit up/The boys been waiting for the girl/The souvenir bruise has been waiting for the thigh/And we were all waiting for a door/That locks from the inside.” Volume Three is an intimate, space-dust noir; pummeled material swirling in the air, trying to close great distances, to land, to stick to flesh."- Ever/Never.

Price: $20.00
"First vinyl by a band that has long been in the vanguard of the neu Boston commune-hunch. Although known only via CDRs, live shows and compilation tracks, Peace, Loving has been at work crafting their mysterious völk moves for the better part of a decade. The core of the band on this record is a quartet -- ARKM Foam, who also appears on the Bang! Bros. 12/12/12 EP (FTR 170, 2014), Kate Lee, Morgan Shaker and Pancho the Kidd. Several of these souls are central to the whole Whitehaus scene in Jamaica Plain, and an array of fellow travelers pile on at various moments of this album. You can easily discern the weekly hoot roots of their sound on the studio side of the LP, which makes me think of what youthful vipers might come up with after listening to stuff like Dan Hicks, Captain Matchbox and Homegas. These tunes have a mix of naif lyricism, slightly archaic pop moves and a soupçon of stoned improvisational logic that pops up in unexpected places. Its a blend that grows on you more and more with each spin. The live side of the album is a different beast entirely. It starts with jingly minimalism that recalls 16 Bitch Pile-Up at their least noisy, but it merges into a quiet flow of banjo and the kind of dimly sparkling percussion you expect to find sprawled around the rug of a rural cabin. The music develops a deep and abstract smokiness, of the kind associated with outfits like MVEE or Mendocino, eventually erupting into a symphony of sound as thick as the climatic sequences of Hitchcocks 1963 film, The Birds. All in all Peace, Loving is a perplexing and very warm spin. One likes to imagine it might have been something Ed Denson snuck onto Takoma back in the day, when Fahey wasnt paying attention. Would have been a classic of unknown-tongue form then, and remains one now. Dig it." - Byron Coley, 2017. Edition of 400.

Title: Fish
Format: 7"
Label: Finders Keepers
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
RSD 2017 release. Single-sided "aquatic clear" 7". Includes a copy of the original press release as well as a press cutting from the time. Limited edition of 1000. "As the first and only label dedicated to liberating the private, non-commercial artifacts from Suzanne Cianis groundbreaking Ciani Musica studio vault, Finders Keepers Records presents the first release of an incredible cryogenically suspended slice of precious, precocious, immersive fledgling synthesis. Ironically well removed from the intension of phonographic application in its original inception, this anti-pop wash of marine biology modular synth sound-design was originally proposed by a very young Ciani for exclusive infinite-loop airings in a giant mid-American shopping mall aquarium in 1977. Potentially conjuring ambient scenes from the consumerist satire Dawn of the Dead while sonically ushering in a genuine desire for total musical science reevaluation and revolution via a decidedly mainstream portal, the Fish Music project is a striking, eerie example of how Cianis "Subversion With A Smile" approach led to a long career of breaking boundaries in formal music technology, film scoring, the advertising industry, and gender equality -- all of which has continued to fuel her passion and channel her life-lust and artistic appetite, much to the benefit of future ambitious trajectories of music. Owing much to the memory of genuine synthesizer maverick Don Buchla, this conceptual release is very much the product of artistic America at its progressive halcyon, but with its illustrious and idiosyncratic composition also communicates subtle undertones of Cianis feminine Italian origins, which seldom reside outside of the efforts of Roman library composers like Casa, Tomassi, Raskovich, and siblings Antonio and Maria Teresa Luciani. File under... water." - Finders Keepers.

Country: UK
Price: $28.00
Gatefold sleeve. "Imagine, if you will, a foreboding homemade electro-acoustic, new age, synth-driven, proto-techno, imaginary world music created on a Portastudio soundtrack for a Polish-made animated fantasy based on a Finnish modern folk tale and created for German and Austrian TV, composed in 1982 by two politically-driven post-punk theater performers from a shared house in Leeds. To even the most perspicacious and adventurous of alternative music fans, the genuine bloodline of this previously unreleased record already begins to sound like an entire record collection in one sitting. It would be surprising if this projects ambitious and exotic credentials didnt tick at least one box on your musical matrix and without one drop of unnecessary nostalgic hyperbole this project already sounds like the perfect fantasy record that youve never heard. From the same social landscape as Gang Of Four, The Mekons, and Impact Theatre Co-operative - armed with a Wasp synthesizer, an ocarina, and a cassette of the Robinson Crusoe music taped off the TV, Graeme Miller and Steve Shill used minimum means for maximum mayhem, instilling over 35 years of dream-like illusory fuzziness and freakiness into the memories of a generation of school age TV addicts waiting for the next five minute fix of outer national fuzzy felt folklore. Collected here, all in one place for the first time, Finders Keepers, in close collaboration with the original composers, present the first-ever full soundtrack release for the UK-specific cult animated series. Finders Keepers take the original homemade micro-melodies and reintroduce them to a musical landscape where fans of vintage electronics, concrète tape effects, pocket percussion, and domestic synths are finally ready to be reunited with the magnetic music of Moominvalley." - Feeding Tube.

""La Gueule Du Loup" explores raw improvisation in a crude, almost cruel manner. On stage the two musicians build musical sets free of pre-existing structures or recorded sounds. The electronic matrix arises from the modules and is immediately propelled into the atmosphere. The two unpatched modular sythesizers first suggest a virgin circuit. Patches are built during the performance. Cosmetic memory plays a secondary role here, catapulted styles shoving the idea of y unified single-style. This is another memory, where the patch is a substitution to ensure a sound coherence of elements, tones, micro-tones, rhythms, order and chaos. Edition of 300." - Fragment Factory.

"Two of the rather on the spot names in the current European tape-mangler scene team up for their first and long overdue joint release. Berlin based Krube. returns home after his very first solo cassette "Vom Unerträglichen" (Fragment Factory, 2011) and takes his crude and crippled 21st century musique concrète to the next level. In his 20 minutes piece, K. manages to combine the raw and dirty nature of his earlier noise based concrete/tapemusic with a great sensitivity and open-mindedness to modern compositional techniques and tactics.Alongside of Sewer Election, Gothenburgs Arv&Miljö has become the epitome of a unique sound and spirit in the South Swedish sub-underground, which evolved during the past 10 or so years. In "Okänd Strand" A&M extracts the very essence of Peter Jefferies "On an Unknown Beach", leaving his distinctive thumbprint on a beautiful and deeply melancholic classic. «Fill My Body With Flowers And Rice» is Kemps first full-length release to vinyl - a compelling work of more than 40 minutes, including two collaborations with Rudolf Eb.er (Schimpfluch, Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock). The album provides a stirring and intimate insight not only into AKs unique world of obscure, tense and delicate sounds, but also into one of the UKs most exceptional artists of today. Artist: FILLIOU, ROBERT
Title: Sings Marquis de Sade
Format: Cass
Label: Goaty Tapes
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Robert Filliou is one of the more elusive figures of European Conceptualism, and this tape is perhaps his most obscure piece.
Born in France, Filliou fought in the Resistance during World War II before emigrated to Los Angeles, where he worked as a laborer at the Coca-Cola bottling factory. He went on to earn a Masters in Economics at UCLA while supporting himself as a night watchman, busboy, and research assistant. Filliou then traveled to South Korea, where he worked for United Nations Reconstruction Agency.
He launched his creative endeavors only later, in 1960, at thirty-four years old. Like other latecomers (Marcel Broodthaers, Yves Klein) Filliou sat awkwardly between art movements, pivoting between Fluxus, Neo-Dada, and early Conceptualism. His sculptures, performances, and writings were primarily a means of articulating his theories: the Eternal Network, the Creative Economy, and Permanent Creation, which salutes Antonio Gramscis “Permanent Revolution”. But Filliou subscribed to his own, curious brand of Socialism—a utopian concoction of Charles Fournier and German Romanticism, shot through with contemporary interest in Marshall McLuhan and Mao Zedong.
“Robert Filliou Sings Marquis de Sade” is not listed in Fillious catalogue raisonné, and as far as I know, he never performed it publicly. I found a copy in his old friends basement. The piece was presumably made casually and sent as a gift (an anti-artist as determined as Robert Filliou must have enjoyed presenting his art as gifts for amusement).
Here, Filliou sings passages from Marquis de Sade, the eighteenth centurys favorite sexual extremist, antipodal moralist, and scandalizer of the feudal elite. Interestingly, Filliou excerpts passages in which Sade describes how nations torture and kill their prisoners, not the more famous passages that describe the authors deviance. Sung acapella, Fillious tenor quivers with an Old World vibrato, lending Sades text a peculiar ambivalence: is Filliou promoting Sades criticisms or deflating them? Is he shedding light on state violence or mocking our obsession with it? In Fluxus fashion, such answers are left unresolved." - Goaty Tapes.

Artist: BARBIERI, CATERINA
Title: Patterns Of Consciousness
Format: Double LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $38.00
"Patterns Of Consciousness is the powerful second full-length from analog synth composer Caterina Barbieri. Gorgeous high resolution analog textures and algorithmic melodies unfold under Barbieris careful control, exploring the basic nature of sound and consciousness. These pieces are minimal in arrangement but maximal in presence asserting Barbieri as a unique voice in contemporary electronic music composition. Patterns Of Consciousness was originated by ideally infinite permutation of patterns through a disciplined and exclusive use of machinery (an indexed quad sequencer and a harmonic oscillator). By means of subtraction, addition, and jitter operations, Barbieri derives a myriad of interlocking patterns extracted from an original matrix of just few harmonic archetypes, gradually developing the potential of the reduced constellation of pitches and durations determined in advance. Pushing the limits of her monophonic instrument, Barbieri seeks out counterpoint from a single oscillator through the exclusive use of additive synthesis, fast progressions, extreme melodic jumps, and intricate delay lines. She develops an illusory counterpoint style influenced by her passion for baroque lute music, where fast arpeggios are employed to get effects of sustained chords and overcome the limits of fast decay timbres. But the highly formulaic and germinative style of these pieces is also influenced by Indian classical musics vision of sound as an agent of change and recreation. Patterns are understood as the cells of an organism or the units of a language: a limited set of signs that can be recombined to always generate new possibilities. In POC, repetition and permutation of patterns are explored as tools to reconfigure perceptions and bend emotions, approaching sound as a medium to develop and master our own perceptual art. Emerging machine intelligence, human desire of pattern detection and the understanding of music as a cognitive feedback between humans and technology are primary sources of inspiration for this work. All the compositions share a common fatalistic tension, an impossible running, a restless rush - somewhat nervous somewhat ecstatic - to grasp a meaning out of fragments. Every piece in POC is conceived as a generative entity, a dynamic and living being able to develop its own organic laws, whose inner potential of growth and change is embedded in the initial instructions of the sequencer. Music produced by Caterina Barbieri between September 2015 and January 2016. Mixed at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm. RIYL: Alessandro Cortini, Eleh."

"Caterina Barbieri on Patterns Of Consciousness: "A pattern creates a certain state of consciousness. Once it is created, the pattern stands as an object exactly like the sound waves which generate it. We are at the same time inside and outside of the object. While being it, we observe it. Over time we become familiar with the inner structure of the pattern. We decode its gravitational centres, where our psychomotor attention is attracted, where everything seems to be drawn. When a change in the pattern occurs it causes a perturbation of the previously established field of forces. This causes consciousness to fracture, potentially unfolding layers of perceptions we werent aware of or simply suggesting that we access only a fraction of our psychic potential. The layered nature of consciousness and the relativity of perception are some of the biggest secrets we can experience through sound." - Important.

Title: s/t
Format: Double LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $38.00
"Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails) and Japanese noise legend Masami Akita (Merzbow) share a mutual love for the EMS Synthi, a British synthesizer from the early 70s notorious for its patch matrix, portability, and distinct tone. Astonishingly, these two disparate artists meld into a single sound as they flex the analog circuitry of the EMS Synthi in new ways; giving this classic synth a modern workout and proving that, in capable hands, a 40-year-old analog synthesizer is a tool for the ages. Metallic shimmer print on heavy duty jackets; 180 gram vinyl." - Important.

Artist: ALTAR OF FLIES
Title: Rörelsen Mellan Rummen
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $22.00
"A decade has now gone by since Mattias Gustafsson released his first recording under the name of Altar of Flies. Since then, he has carved out his very own unique approach to experimental music, with an unmistakable artisic expression. The new Lp, "Rörelsen mellan rummen", is no exception to this claim. With an astonishing precision and sensibility for details, "Rörelsen mellan rummen" is definately one of his finest moments so far. We are nvited to the inner corners of a musical universe where the dull replicas of todays hollowed out experimental "scene" are left far behind. With intriguing sound collages and tape manipulations, "Rörelsen mellan rummen" takes the formula of the past to even higher levels. With a more crystallized sound than ever, the dense and restrained compositions on "Rörelsen mellan rummen" provides a new milestone in an impressive artistic trajectory. Released in 300 copies." - Jartecknet.

"Folky and desolate music that reeks of plague, desolate countrysides, heathen rituals and long, harsh cold winters. Another anti-urban masterpiece from members from LEAFES and SEWER ELECTION, their third full-length release, with slow and monotonous percussion, deeply buried vocals, crude electronics and droning guitars, tortured synths and flutes. Edition of 200." -Jartecknet.

Title: Nära
Format: LP
Label: Jartecknet
Country: Sweden
Price: $22.00
“Gothenburgs finest is back with another fullength recording, offering a delicate and puzzling experience, showing new aspects to the audial works of Sewer Election. Chilling oscillating drones and field recordings woven into an intricate mixture, presenting a more personal sound than ever.
Comes with bigger inlay with extensive liner notes by Matthias Andersson. Released in 350 copies.” - Jartecknet.
“Instigated with “Kassettmusik” (iDEAL, 2008) and its suffocating minimalism, carefully elaborated into the brutish musique concréte of “Bristning” (RTB, 2009) to later fully blossom into the crude reel-to-reel odysseys of “Vidöppna Sår” (PAN, 2010) and “Vittra Sönder” (Throne Heap, 2012), “Nära” pretty much feels like the perfect culmination of the Sewer Election explorations of the last five years or so. Perhaps the most laid back and mellow Sewer Election so far, “Nära” blends the now very beautifully executed tape-manipulations with sparse oscillating tones and a heavy but at the same time subtle use of everyday life recordings from the near surroundings.” - Matthias Andersson, Fördämning Fanzine, April 2014.

"The tracks on the album reflect my feelings at the time, a great happiness to live an interesting life (although stressful!) with the key, a happy story of love." —Jacqueline Thibault "Following the international release of “Evening Colours” in 1976, Jacqueline Thibault (Laurence Vanay) continued to compose songs that she recorded on her multi-track Revox. But she had little time for her own music, working day and night at legendary international recording studio, the Chⴥau d’H鲯uville. Still, Jacqueline managed to bring together the compositions for “Les Soleils de la Vie” (The Suns of Life), with the help of her perpetual musical accomplices—Serge Derrien (guitar, flute, wordless vocals) and John Chevalier, aka Popov (drums and percussion). There was also the timely intervention of other friends, Michel Santangelli (drums), Jean Claude Guzelli (bass) and Francis Moze. Decca Records was interested in producing the album back in 1977, but asked for a remix of the music. Only several years later was that finally possible—too late for Decca. The recordings therefore found themselves asleep on Parisian shelves, pending potential better days. Shimmering, mysterious, sometimes funky, deeply emotional examples of musical beguilement.•First ever release for this 1977 follow-up to the wonderful “Evening Colours” LP •Six-panel color insert with rare photos and Jacquelines remarkable story •Limited to 500 copies, housed in a deluxe tip-on jacket." Title: Dust On Common
Format: LP
Label: Mannequin
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"RSD 2017 release. Mannequin Records present a reissue of one of the best minimal synth/cold wave albums of the past 15 years. Dust On Common from Led Er Est (Sam De La Rosa, Shawn OSullivan, and Owen Hutchinson) was originally released in 2009 by the seminal Brooklyn based record label Wierd Records. The bands first full-length release showed the three piece clearly breaking out of the minimal synth underground they had been a vital integral part of since its inception in Brooklyn to create an undeniably contemporary set of highly crafted and restrained, icily psychedelic pop songs. Synthesizing countless disparate musical influences from first wave British industrial music to house, disco, and the largely unknown cold wave (aka "La Vague Froide") tradition in Northern Europe, the tracks on Dust On Common fly by, straight out of the frozen hot, lonely cold plains of vocalist Samuel Kklovenhoofs native central Texas. After digesting a few songs of this rich dust, the listener can do no other than lie down in the wild weird Laredo bunker to revel in the refreshingly brisk blast of hedonistic analog pleasure dancing through the airwaves in the sky above... Comes on orange vinyl; Edition of 500." - Mannequin.

Artist: GLASS FAMILY
Title: Electric Band
Format: Double LP
Label: Maplewood
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"The origins of The Glass Family start in West Los Angeles. Jim Callon formed a band to play surf music and covers at frat parties to make some money. They went by a few different monikers at that point; the Carpet Baggers and the Soul Survivors amongst them. “Los Angeles at that time was a wonderful place to be," Callon said. "There were these pockets of communities all over the place. Everything [was] about what was going on and [what] we were a part of really had a good intention. It was people expanding their minds with LSD and marijuana. People just wanted to try new things and change the way that they were expected to live their lives." A few years later when the band members were at Cal State LA for grad school, they changed the band name to The Glass Family. They played all over Los Angeles, gigging at notable venues like The Troubadour, The Topanga Corral and The Whiskey A Go-Go, sharing bills with The Doors, Vanilla Fudge, and Love. By 1967, they’d secured a record deal with Warner Bros. Records, who released their record in 1968. Although it never became the hit that they’d hoped for, the more important result was that the Glass Family were a piece of the puzzle of the times: playing gigs with Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Bros, Canned Heat, Big Brother and The Holding Company with Janis Joplin, and The Grateful Dead."

“The gigs we played with The Dead at The Fillmore were the most memorable. Owsley Stanley would walk around backstage and place little paper cups full of coke or punch dosed with the best Owsley acid. Then he’d walk through the audience handing out cups." House of Glass is the impressive opening track, full of tension and convincing vocals over some 13th Floor Elevators style grooves; Once Again and Sometimes You Wander are nice soft-psych tunes; The Means is an excellent hallucinogenic flying into the Beatles territory; Do You Remember is not far from Pearls Before Swine. I Want To See My Baby has nice fuzz guitar, and reminds one of Country Joe & The Fishs Death Sound Blues. Weve always thought that this was one of the better underground psych albums, so were glad to see an official version hit the streets. Gatefold includes unique band photos and a biography of the bands experiences in psychedelic 1960s Southern California."

"The first LP is a reissue of the band’s original Warner Bros. album. The second LP contains unreleased tracks—how the band intended the songs to sound. Initial recording sessions for the album took place in the summer of 1967 with Richie Podolor (producer for Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night) at the helm. Those recordings were rejected by Warner Bros. So the band went back into the studio late in 1967 and early 1968 with Podolor in hopes of creating something more palatable to the label folks. These later sessions are what eventually comprised the original Glass Family album, "Electric Band." The first Glass Family sessions from 1967 are what youll find on the second LP of this release. •First-time vinyl reissue for these classic psych era recordings. •Taken from the master tapes." - Maplewood.

Title: Grimwood
Format: LP
Label: Michael Yonkers
Country: USA
Price: $35.00
“ORIGINAL SEALED PRESSING FROM 1974! Recorded in 1968 (not 1969, as previously reported), not terribly long after the material eventually released as "Microminiature Love", Grimwood sounds like it emanates from another universe entirely. Straightforward on the one hand, yet fascinatingly and psychedelically abstruse on the other, Grimwood remains an essential "outsider” acid-folk document that sits comfortably (and irreplaceably) alongside Spence, Grudzien, Tweddle, and a few select others. “ Released in 1974 and rescued from deep inside Yonks’ storage space/weirdo museum. While they last!” - Treehouse. Some have slight storage wear/dinged corners. Best copies go first..

Artist: DAS DING
Title: Kindheitsmuster/Raid
Format: 7"
Label: Minimal Wave
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Minimal Wave is excited to present a 7" single of two early demos (Kindheitsmuster and Raid) by Dutch electronic music pioneer Das Ding. The final versions of these tracks were released on H.S.T.A. and the Missing Tapes, respectively. The versions here are the most raw and electric recordings we have heard by Das Ding yet. Danny Bosten formed Das Ding as a solo project in the early 1980s and released his music and friends music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. At the time, he was studying graphic design at art school, and in turn he ended up designing the artwork, cassette-sleeves and illustrations for the label himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, he made several addictive and danceable tracks which later become Minimal Wave hits. Danny made all his music in his bedroom which essentially turned into a small recording studio. He went on to release many of his own tapes and also played some live gigs. Old tapes were uncovered around 2010, and Minimal Wave released a remastered version of H.S.T.A. and select other tracks. A wave of renewed interest followed the records release and soon people were in touch to propose live shows. Twenty years later, and after some deliberation, Das Ding was reincarnated under its old moniker but now with a revised line-up and a working set-up that reflected inevitable technological change. The Kindheitsmuster/Raid 7" is pressed on black vinyl, featuring a photograph that Danny Bosten took during his art school days, and the inspiration for the cover drawing of the H.S.T.A. cassette release from 1982. The 7" is limited to 500 numbered copies." - Minimal Wave.

Title: Sounds of New Music
Format: LP
Label: Modern Silence
Country: Malta
Price: $26.00
"The compositions on Side I of this record represent attempts at new means of musical expression. Some utilize conventional musical instruments and sounds in startlingly new ways, giving an impression of an actual new sound being created; some use instruments new to music (electrical, mechanical and natural) adding to the composers palette of timbres and tonalities. . . . SIDE II of this record is meant as a tool for those using new sounds and techniques in composing. There are basic sounds (some of which are hard to come by) and basic sound patterns, together with examples of how these sounds and patterns may be utilized." - original liner notes by Eugene Bruck.

"Sounds of New Music is a legendary collection of 18 compositions from the 1920s to the mid-1950s; composers include Edgard Varèse, Henry Cowell, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Otto Luening, Julius Meytuss, Alexander Mossolov, Halim El-Dabh, and John Cage, whose "Dance" is performed on a transformed Steinway piano that gives the music an almost primitive quality. Side B (The Experiments) includes works by Ussachevsky, Henry Jacobs, and Roger Marin & Frederic Ramsey, Jr. Originally released by Folkways Records in 1957." - Modern Silence.

Artist: HEAD, JOWE
Title: Cabinet Of Curios
Format: Double LP
Label: Munster
Country: Spain
Price: $33.00
"RSD 2017 release. Cabinet Of Curios is the first ever career-spanning compilation of the solo work of Jowe Head, an essential name in the birth and development of the UKs underground scene. From 1981 debut album Pincer Movement up to 2014 recordings by Jowe Head and The Demi-Monde, plus previously unreleased tracks, these 20 cuts present Heads wonderful mixture of off-kilter pop and avant-garde weirdness, like a noise party attended by Joe Meek, Burt Bacharach and Sun Ra. "If one looks at the galaxy of stars that can be attributed as source material for todays musical DIY/lo-fi generation, Jowe Head shines as a true iconoclast. His 1973 addition to the avant-garage godfathers Swell Maps added an impressionistic edge to their psychedelic punk pastiche that drew of Max Ernst as ably as Can. Later on in The Television Personalities and his Househunters and Palookas projects, not to mention a sprawling solo discography, Jowes persona injected color and livelihood into an often-too-cool-for-school post-punk scene around Britain while still delivering transportative sounds and open-to-the-listener interpretations. This compendium is in itself a galaxy of sounds that will never fail to deliver." - Brian Turner, WFMU Music Director.

Title: Clouds
Format: LP
Label: Music From Memory
Country: Netherlands
Price: $22.00
"Music from Memorys fourth release sees the Amsterdam-based label taking an exciting sidestep with the release of Clouds. Its the debut album from Gaussian Curve, a collaboration between Italian ambient pioneer Gigi Masin, Land of Lights Jonny Nash, and Marco Sterk (also known as Young Marco). The trio came together during a weekend-long recording session in April, 2014, with no preconceived ideas. Developed around improvised jams, the eight tracks on the album are all single-take live recordings. The three musicians succeed in developing a musical language all of their own, with Gigi Masin on Rhodes and piano; Jonny Nash on guitar, melodica, synths, and trumpet; and Marco Sterk on synths, rhythmic structures, and production duties. Recorded in the heart of Amsterdams red-light district, the album reflects the unusually warm spring and the buzz from the open windows that filled the derelict downtown studio space during that particular weekend. And on the more introverted late-night compositions, the music quietly soars, reflecting the brooding melancholy of an evening in that particular part of the city. Clouds is a simple, heartfelt record of an inspired meeting of unique souls in unique surroundings." - Music From Memory.

Artist: MPUNGA, DENIS & PAUL K
Title: Criola
Format: LP
Label: Music From Memory
Country: Netherlands
Price: $21.00
"An mini LP of works by Denis Mpunga and Paul K., all recorded between 1980-1984. Combining elements of traditional African music with experimental electronics, the Belgian/Congolese duo released only a handful of tracks, scattered across a few rare LP and cassette compilations that were put out in the mid-eighties by obscure European labels. This release also includes a few previously unreleased songs that were found on the original master tapes. Relocating with his family from the Congo to Belgium in 1973 at the young age of 13, Denis Mpunga grew up in Liege and quickly became deeply embedded in its musical scene, forming the group Gomma Percussions in 1979; a percussive group driven by West African influences. A side project Eko-Kuango formed by the Gomma Percussion members also saw the release in 1985 of the now much sought after 12" Fura (1986), which also includes Denis Mpunga on vocals. Denis has continued to produce and compose music, perhaps most notably writing the soundtrack for the Dardenne brotherss La Promesse (1996). Patrick Stas, who would release with Denis under the "Paul K." moniker, was a well-known local musician in Liege and considered something of a luminary figure in the electronic and experimental music scene in Belgium. Patrick would set up the independent cassette and vinyl label Home Produkt. Both well-known figures in Lieges music scene, the two of them would join forces in 1980 to work together on a soundtrack for a childrens animation company called CAMERA etc, recording the Intermezzo tracks which are included here. Keen to experiment further as a duo, Denis would propose the idea of combining some more traditional songs or percussive African elements with Patricks experiments with drum computers and synthesizers. Working around more conventional instruments such as guitar and bass, Denis would also bring balafons, senzas, and a zither to their recordings whilst Patrick would work with an array of synthesizers and drum machines, such as the Roland MC 202, TB 303, and TR 808, and the Korg MS20 and Monopoly. The recordings set out to play with and challenge preconceptions and expectations of African music and African culture. Together, Denis Mpunga and Paul K.s, if somewhat brief, musical adventure would create a fascinating new musical language: African music born out of an industrial European landscape. 180 gram vinyl." - Music From Memory.

Label: Omlott
Country: Sweden
Price: $8.00
"The two songs on the single is a raw extract from a much larger recording session (with a later release date) made in May 2016 in Sickla, Stockholm by Anton Sundell. Anton Sundell is also responsible for the very literal cassette approach we can hear here; very sharp, loud and punchy and with a lot of wit thrown into the vortex of this mad mix! With members from all over the place; from Fire trio, Atomic, Subtropic Arkestra, Je Suis, Team Hegdal, Oddjobb, Per Texas Johansson 4tett, All Included....Angles 9 make a music that really stands out. For what it is worth. Limited to 200 copys. Comes in handmade covers in diferrent colourvariations." - Omlott.

Title: s/t

Label: Omlott
Country: Sweden
Price: $23.00
"Attacking the now. The instant. The music. Attacking your image of what. Is. Music. Attacking the past. The history. What is now. Attack is all. Dont hold back. Ever. Curiousness and initiative is all. And attack. The attack mode. 6 Swedes attacking it all with a front of 3 sax players not holding back. Attacking the mystery of it all. 6 defined personalities and creative voices with feet and minds in jazz, improvised music and related experimental matters. Togetherness. A real unit of creativity. Of poetic beauty. Anna Högberg as a modern free jazz standard bearer keeping it all together – her rich alto sax leading the ensemble into layers of high octane outbursts and sensational melodic variations. Her tone being able to cut landscapes open, to melt your brain as we know it. Check the two tenor sax axes out! Elin Forkelid Larsson and Malin Wättring knows how to attack matters – how to structure solos and ensemble work with intense warmth and melodic beauty. Seldom have I heard such warm and rich sounding tenors in Scandinavia. The time is here. The attack attack! Drummer Anna Lund punctuating the flow… attacking it all. Laying fundaments of possibilities for the others. The attack attack! Pianist Lisa Ullén adding her thorny, but detailed phrases to the picture. The picture of the attack attack. And last but not least. The attack attack of deep sounding bass maestro Elsa Bergman. With an unusaul imagination of how to position her own language and bass lines into a collective of attacking free jazz. Freeing the jazz. Attacking the jazz. The attack attack!” - Mats Gustafsson.

Artist: KARKHANA
Title: Nafas/Nefes
Format: 7"
Label: Omlott
Country: Sweden
Price: $8.00
Limited to 300 copies. "Combining some of the most innovative players from each of three cities (Beirut – Cairo – Istanbul), Karkhana met in Beirut for the first time in February 2014 with the very ambitious aim to bring together elements from the three major experimental music scenes of the area. The bands music strives to create a unique musical blend combining free jazz and psychedelic with various shades of ethnic and traditional music, traces of shaabi, tarab… Building on the multi-instrumental capacities of its members, the group tries to create an atmosphere full of surprises for both the listeners and the performers themselves, developing what could possibly be called a “Free Middle-Eastern Music”." - Omlott.

Artist: NEUTRAL
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Omlott
Country: Sweden
Price: $24.00
Edition of 500. Neutral is the duo of Dan Johansson (Sewer Election, etc) and Sofie Herner (Enhet För Fri Musik). “In a sweaty art space open to no one and just a stones throw away from the Utmarken venue where it all in more than one way kind of began, Neutral did their first show in front of maybe 25 people. The free jazz drummer Peeter Uuskyla opened the night with a shimmering set of absurd, life-elevating bliss and Neutral just ripped it all apart. There and then sort of Gothenburg underground ground zero, or more like ground nothing. New beginnings and grey waves of something very exciting. Its been close to 2 years now but its one of those nights that I will remember forever. Since then Ive seen Neutral on several occasions and its always been a pleasure, always refining their craft but at the same time shredding the improvement to tiny pieces with every heartbeat. Its like they are taking one step forward and two steps back with every minute they produce, and in a very rare and weird way getting better and more interesting doing so. The untitled second album, following up Grå Våg Gamlestaden (Omlott, 2014), does just that. It takes everything that made the debut album so special and puts it in a rusty meat grinder, taking a piss on the deconstructed mess and puts it together again, piece by piece. The formula might be almost identical, but the final outcome is different. Where the debut was immediate and fairly easy to resonate with, the new album is almost impossible to penetrate at first. You can sense that theres something resembling a ragged beauty somewhere, but its hard to reach. Its like Neutral deliberately placed various obstacles along the way, fucking with everyones expectations and rightfully so. Still, after each time spent with those 35 minutes things will slowly unfold themselves and there you are, pleased with one of the most fully realized and beautiful recordings to ever come from the shitfaced Utmarken camp of misunderstood geniuses. Yeah, I actually heard them all. Neutral manages to connect the dots between everything from Chrome and Siltbreezian gold from the 90s to the more experimental sides of Dome, while throwing in some tape work that could only originate from Gothenburg and brutish guitar playing bringing JFK, Skullflower and maybe even rock-era Ramleh to mind at times. Lets not forget the mysterious field recordings scattered along the way, and Sofie Herners dry, talked vocals, leading at least this listener to the realization that theres no end to this fucking winter.” - Matthias Andersson.

Artist: ERICKSON, ROKY
Title: All That May Do My Rhyme
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Play Loud! Productions present the first reissue of Roky Ericksons All That May Do My Rhyme, originally released in 1994. Roky Erickson is a legend. Former member of the 13th Floor Elevators, he was considered the white James Brown. Drug problems and diagnosed schizophrenia made him an outsider. By the 90s, he was struggling to survive on a $200 monthly social security check. In 1990, artists like R.E.M., ZZ Top, and the Jesus and Mary Chain recorded his songs for a tribute album. Erickson performed publicly for the first time in many years at the Austin Music Awards. In 1994, he returned to the studio with guitarists Charlie Sexton and the Butthole Surfers Paul Leary to record All That May Do My Rhyme. This record was released on CD, cassette, and vinyl in 1994 on Paul Learys Trance Syndicate Records. Notes from the original press release: "Trance Syndicate is pleased to present the first studio recording in almost a decade by one of the most gifted, most influential, most inspired singer/songwriters from the Republic of Texas since Buddy Holly. Roky Erickson is back! performing new songs and a few classics in one of the best studios in Texas, backed by some of Texas finest musicians." This is no cheap live tape, crummy reissue, nor a slimy bootleg. This is the real thing." - Play Loud!

Artist: FLOATING DI MOREL
Title: ULF/FDM
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Play Loud! present the new album from Floating Di Morel and ULF. The band members in their own words: "The new (fifth) Floatin LP is divided in two parts. On one side you hear the last works together with Thorsten Neu, which you know from the records Said My Said (PL 006LP, 2009) and Goal Less Play (PL 034LP, 2013). The other side is a new more electronic experience with ULF."

39 Clocks member Jürgen Gleue about Floating di Morel: " (...) sound like Sky Saxon & The Seeds did float, effortless, its just there as it pops into your head like a thumb into your mouth." Jake Austen of Roctober Magazine writes: "Like a classy Suicide (the band, not the act of desperation) these cats present minimal, chilling music, but wear ties and sweep the warehouse before inviting you over for a bizarre ultra-underground concert." German critic Robert Miessner states: "If Velvet Underground had not disintegrated in 1973 and instead had met with Neu! or Mutes Daniel Miller, they would have sounded like Floating di Morel." - Play Loud!

Title: Live At Marie-Antoinette
Format: Double LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $27.00
"The Play Loud! (live) music series is based on three precepts: Alan Lomaxs work as an archivist and chronicler, John Peels BBC radio sessions, and the work of Direct Cinema pioneers, such as the Maysles Brothers, Leacock, Wildenhahn and Pennebaker. Filming live shows means not doing things TV-style, but in a very personal, intuitive and adventurous manner - nothing is staged for the shoot. Play Loud!s intention is it to create an extensive archive of interesting popular music and culture that includes both, the huge quantity of unreleased filmed material by the filmmakers and also material that comes from other sources. Some of the recordings - if popular demand is strong - will be offered as limited vinyl LPs.

Dietmar Post and Lucía Palacios on filming live music: "As filmmakers, it is important the performance we film will be recorded unadulterated. At the same time we do select by positioning and framing the camera, i.e. we watch subjectively. In principle we try to edit inside the camera because we would like to show the presentation in its entirety. It is crucial to know that most of the time we only work with one single camera. . . . Our work turns into an active composition during the show. It could be called a form of drawing (in German the term drawing inhabits the word recording) with the camera. As with all spontaneous/improvised art this sometimes works out nicely, other times it fails poorly."

Dirk Dresselhaus/Schneider TM on the concert: "I find it fairly difficult to say something about how the music in this concert came about, cause we didnt plan or rehearse anything and hardly were able to hear each other on stage. Wherever it came from, the energy and course of this concert is very much based on group dynamics and an almost telepathic sort of communication, like a swarm of fish. When I mixed the sound later on in the studio I discovered a lot of weird things on the separate tracks: for example Kptmichigans guitar signal is changing level for about +/-30 dB once in a while which is a lot and was probably caused by a broken microphone cable. Luckily the fucked up parts made the sound even heavier and more distorted instead of destroying it."

Artist: EXPANSION BAY
Title: Core 10
Format: Lathe Cut 7" + CDR
Label: PseudoArcana
Country: New Zealand
Price: $22.00
"Expansion Bay is the solo electronic project of Nathan Thompson (Sandoz Lab Technicians/Eye/Gate/Rederizors). Core 10 was recorded in 2013 and feature 5 tracks, 2 of which appear on the lathe cut 7". Featuring nuanced layers of synthesiser, heavily effected guitar and good old amp noise Thompson crafts sophisticated spatious compositions that seem to reference birdsong and wind in trees at the same time as vast desolate hallways of some lost dream of a space age future. The record and CD are packaged in handmade packaging designed and printed at home by Thompson himself. Limited numbered edition of 50x 7 inch lathe cut records plus full length CDR." - PseudoArcana.

Title: Off-White
Format: Lathe Cut LP
Label: PseudoArcana
Country: New Zealand
Price: $34.00
"Finally released after nearly 4 years of procrastination and dithering on the part of the artist Off-White has moments that are amongst the poppiest thing Antony Milton has ever released.Heavy on the synths and fake but awesome electronic drums it also exhibits no shyness in regards to keening but broken vocals. Needless to say there are also extended sections of synapse distorting guitar and ecstatic drones aplenty. With one foot shamelessly planted in a sentimental nostalgia for 1980s cry-yourself-to-sleep pop music and the other firmly remaining shin deep in the New Zealand underground Off-White raises its arms in salute to brainyromantics everywhere. Edition of 33 copies in hand embossed cover." - PseudoArcana.

These 2 companion volumes were (as LPs) amongst the first batch of releases on the fledgling PSF label in the late 80s. Now available on CD as well. Accurately described as "twisted folksongs, harsh voice and noise guitar passage. Very strange atmosphere."" - FE.

Title: Uncrushed: Previously Unreleased British Punk From The Underground 1969-1971
Format: LP
Label: Radiation Deluxe Series
Country: Spain
Price: $24.00
"RSD 2017 release. Recorded in 1970 and released 21 years later in a handful of copies, Uncrushed may have been the first ever British punk rock album, (although Deviants fans may disagree) as crucial to the genre in the UK as Fun House (1970) or Kick Out The Jams (1969) were in the States. It set the tone for most of the boot-stomping terrace glam that followed (Slade, Mott The Hopple, and the Faces, for starters). Alan Butler and Jesse Hector, on bass and guitar respectively, formed Crushed Butler in early 1969, with 17 year old drummer, actor, and teen mag pin-up Darryl Read. Playing prestigious gigs with the likes of Atomic Rooster, Mott The Hoople, Osibisa and Kevin Ayers, Crushed Butler routinely blew the headlining act off the stage with their ferocious brand of hooligan rock. Reissued here on luxurious 180 gram vinyl; Includes a printed inner sleeve with extended liner notes; Hand-numbered." - Radiation Deluxe Series.

Title: GRM Works
Format: LP
Label: Recollection GRM
Country: Austria
Price: $23.00
"Argentine electroacoustic composer Beatriz Ferreyra describes each of the pieces included on GRM Works: Demeures aquatiques (1967): "This electroacoustic piece, articulated into two clearly distinct parts, draws its sound source from the classical and unorthodox instruments -- metal sheets, glass rods, etc. -- invented by the Baschet brothers. I wanted to show the contrast between the rhythmic repetition of a sounding object, which gives out a feeling of fixity, an electroacoustic flavour and the continuous re-creation of the same sensation through similar yet not identical sounds." Un fil invisible (2009) For Christine Groult: "This piece was inspired by the various stages of Medieval Alchemy. The alchemical process is one of transformation, whose actual subject is the alchemist himself. Here, the process is inextricably tangled with the transformation of sounds and the very structure of the piece." Médisances (1968/69): "This electroacoustic piece for 4 channels was produced by manipulating such items as orchestral instruments, a mouth bow, breath and some unexpected technical defects." Les Larmes de linconnu (2011): "This is the first part of a work inspired by the Qabalists Carlos Suares (consciousness-energy), Rivka Cremici (charm of the mystic energy) and Shinta Zenke (dazzling Hebrew calligraphy) to whom I dedicate this music. Through its letters-numbers, the Qabalah expresses three different levels of primordial equation of the universe: the level of the archetype, that of the event and the incarnation, and the universal and cosmic level... I would like to thank the wonderful flutist Hernan Gomez for his kindness and his musicality during the recording." "The music of Beatriz Ferreyra bears a magnetic force, which generates a truly recognisable style that could be defined as a unique sense and intuition for sound. Whether in her early works (Médisances, Demeures aquatiques) or in the more recent ones featured here, one can easily perceive a freedom-loving musical personality. A pioneer alongside Pierre Schaeffer, in the 50s and 60s, she worked on the development of the famous Solfège de lObjet Sonore (Music Theory of the Sounding Object) before freeing herself from the institution to focus on creating a challenging and independent music." --Christian Zanési and François Bonnet, Paris, 2015. "The Institute of Sonology in Utrecht has earned its international reputation mostly for pioneering work in the field of computer-assisted algorithmic composition and digital sound synthesis by composers such as Gottfried Michael Koenig, Werner Kaegi, Paul Berg, and Barry Truax. Anyone familiar with the music of these composers would have to admit that even within this genre there were no stylistic dogmas. The stylistic range of the Institutes artistic output becomes even broader when the work of other staff and frequent guests is taken into account, for example the compositions based on field recordings and audio-visual projects by Frits Weiland, the radiophonic works and pieces for tape and instruments by Luctor Ponse, the cybernetic tape compositions by Roland Kayn, or the experiments with computer graphics by Peter Struycken, to name just a few. And then there was Jaap Vink. Jaap Vink studied engineering at first, but then became interested in electronic music. He attended courses in electroacoustics at Delft University of Technology and installed a pedagogical studio for electronic music in 1961 at the Gaudeamus Foundation . . . Jaap Vink always tried to break out of the periodicity of the sounds so abundantly available in the electronic music studio. Although his music was entirely produced with purely electronic sound material, its textures resemble the richness of orchestral sounds, or large natural sound-complexes, as a result of recursive processes. The density of this sound material increases and decreases by careful control of feedback networks with configurations of analog tape recorders (delay lines), filters, and modulators. It should come as no surprise that his work is being rediscovered at a time when a new generation of musicians has conquered the stage with modular synthesizer setups and no-input mixers, in which feedback of audio and control signals plays an important role. And although Jaap Vinks music wasnt performed live but produced and recorded on magnetic tape in the studio, it is exactly the human interaction with feedback processes that connects his work with the current generation of live electronic music performers. To some extent Jaap Vinks pieces are indeed recorded live improvisations, and extending his patches and rehearsing with them was an ongoing process. . . . The selection presented here gives an overview of Jaap Vinks works made in Utrecht, ranging from his first composition Screen up to Tide 85." - Kees Tazelaar. "Etron Fou Leloublan are one of the more important offshoots of the RIO movement. This French quartet originated in the mid-70s with bassist-vocalist Ferdinand Richard, saxophonist Chris Charnet, drummer Guigou Chenevier and vocalist Eulalie Ruynat." "Has to be one of the best of the honest to goodness RIO albums. The album is very fast paced and active, with instruments of rock, jazz, and French folk all coming out quick and playful, and drums pounding away with fury. The record is just plain a fun listen. Nicolas is the best track, and its our rambunctious opener, showing off the bands lighter side, and the second best, Those Distant Waters, is one of the two drum workouts and a chilling cut about seafaring. Beyond the obvious enjoyment, LPG features some wonderful strangeness and complexity from our Francais friends, with the aforementioned instruments constantly rotated to allow for many different sounds... An avant romp done to perfection, I would recommend this masterpiece to anybody and everybody. And perhaps this is the best introduction to avant-prog." - Replica.

"Debut album from legendary early French band, mainstay’s of the Nurse With Wound list, led by bass player Didier Thibault. Obviously influenced by Soft Machine and Frank Zappa, this original and very fine progressive rock outfit generate complex melodies and polished arrangements by the score. Elaborate themes full of breaks, and following surprising paths. The music develops by the association, superposition, blendings of the themes (more than four-hundred and fifty on the second album!), original sound combinations (organ or bass as solo instruments, trumpet, saxophone, flute, drums, vocals). The eponymous album was recorded in 1972, followed by the great "The World Of Genius Hans" twelve months later." - Replica.

Price: $24.00
The second Moving Gelatine Plates album, originally issued in 1972. "The World of Genius Hans is often given the nod over Moving Gelatine Plates self-titled debut album as their defining moment, which is surprising considering both albums are extremely close in quality. The opening title track showcases the bands ability to craft a lengthy composition of gradually unfolding, substantial development. While the exhilarating jerkiness and trademark tendency to unexpectedly jump from theme to theme is certainly still there, the group seems to rely less on the unrelenting aural assaults and machine gun choppiness of the first record. Tracks like Funny Doll and the sublime Astromonster are quintessential MGP; distorted bass lines, gorgeous horn melodies, fascinating harmonies and amorphous rhythms that never sit still. The former is perhaps the most vocal heavy the band ever got, while the latter encompasses virtually all their strengths, making it the most perfect six minutes on either album. With all that said, its virtually impossible to pick a favorite from between the two albums. A classic album and perfect representation of the eclecticism of the French progressive rock movement of the 70s." - Replica.

Influenced by Zappa and the Canterbury scene, and recorded at the famous Hérouvilles castle, this mythical album now appears on vinyl for the first time ever!" Widely influenced by King Crimson and Weather Report, the amazing results of these recordings are now available on vinyl for the first time!" "Continually inventive Canterbury/jazz styled album that is very close to groups like Moving Gelatine Plates or Supersister, sharing both groups penchants for creating strange and humourous music with more than a hint of invention. The music is very crazy, shuttling between jazz and rock with furious instrumentals with lots of flute and violin." - Replica.

"Kietsuzukeru Echo (which loosely translates to "Disappearing Echo") is Tokyo, Japan stalwart Hisato Higuchis second offering for Root Strata - his first being an a cappella track for the Tsuki No Seika 7" series in 2011. After over two decades of releases on P.S.F. Records, Family Vineyard, Apollolaan Recordings, and a steady string on his own imprint Ghost Disc, Hisatos latest effort marks a stylistic, yet finely distilled, return to his earliest live sets from the mid-1990s - documented in the P.S.F. record Early Works (2012). Conjuring an incredibly intimate space with only guitar and voice, the home-recorded Kietsuzukeru Echo is illuminated from within. Eight songs of soliloquy and scene, eight songs that disappear. "RSD 2017 release. There is something magical and inexplicable about creation, and Sand manifest absolutely these mysterious phenomena. Storytellers, musicians, shamans, geniuses, Sand were known, at the end of the 60s, as P.O.T. (Part Of Time). Then Sand - Ludwig Papenberg and his brother Ullrich, and Johannes Vester - developed a more avant-gardist, proto-industrial, visionary experimental approach, a truly unique entity in the history of music. Not dependent on a classical "krautrock" style, Sand is nevertheless part of this movement of German cosmic/psychedelic bands, as well as being the originators of proto-industrial music. Golem, originally released in 1974, is a legendary album from the cosmic and psychedelic genius that is Sand. Factory-noise, riveting hammers from the dockyards, agricultural machines, starfighters low-level flights, land maneuver by the British Forces in the mountainous countryside along the winding river were the culture medium for extended sound aesthetics. Sand was born and created the Golem. Comes in a metallic sleeve cover; Comes on 200 gram silver and black vinyl; Edition of 700." - Rotoreleif.

"Aside from Simeons use of a banjo on a couple of tracks, the music on Contact does not differ from that of their debut. One aspect improved upon was the lyrics; many possess the same cosmic element found on Silver Apples, but others are full of bitterness, pain, paranoia, and confusion. In turn, the lead oscillator is used to greater effect, reflecting this newfound intensity. Simeon, who composed the text for five of Contacts ten songs (he framed one song on Silver Apples, Dancing Gods), was largely responsible for this change." - Bart Bealmear, AllMusic.

"By 1967, the Overland Stage Electric Band was teetering on its last legs. The New York City five-piece had found some success playing covers of straight-ahead rock n roll at gigs in the East Village, but tensions within the group were steadily tearing them apart. The lead singer, Simeon Coxe III, had gotten his hands on a vintage 40s audio oscillator and was insisting that it become a part of the show. The rest of the band was understandably upset - this was more than a decade before electronic music would become an accepted practice. Before long, the band was down to two members, Simeon, and drummer Danny Taylor. Now with full control, the two members re-christened themselves the Silver Apples and set about releasing one of historys great forgotten albums, their self-titled debut. Silver Apples is a record that reached far ahead of its time. Its not surprising then, in a year when the airwaves were still dominated by Motown and the Beatles (whose experimentation was tame by comparison), that it failed to garner much of an audience. Even now, nearly 40 years later, the record sounds fresh and unconventional - in 1968 there simply wasnt anything else like it." - Adam Bunch, Crawdaddy! (2007).

Price: $40.00
"2017 repress. Shadoks Music present a reissue of Captain Marryats self-titled album, originally released in 1974. First reissued in 2010 as a black vinyl edition and in 2013 as a transparent pink vinyl edition of 200, This edition comes on transparent white vinyl with a color photo on the front. Captain Marryat were from Glasgow, Scotland and they recorded this demo album in 1974, released in a tiny pressing on the Thor label, hoping to get an EMI or Chrysalis deal, who both showed interest in the band at the time. They wanted to record only a single, but instead came up with a complete album of self-composed tracks. Since it was not that easy for a Scottish band to get attention down in London, this album was the only pressing ever done and was sold at band gigs only. Five musicians, great organ, vocals, extra heavy fuzz-guitar with drums and bass - amazing underground songs, influenced by Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Beggars Opera - a true lost classic. Dig on the truly tribal percussion, searing guitar leads and drugged-out keys on the fully-instrumental and galloping "Dance Of Thor." The band formed in the early 70s, around 1971 to 1975, generating quite a following while playing all around Scotland and the Borders at various venues including Burns Howff in Glasgow which was a very popular venue as other bands such as Alex Harvey Band, Nazareth, and Beggars Opera also played there. Shadoks Music were lucky to find the band themselves to make a deal so this beauty can finally conquer the world of rock music. Many people watching eBay auctions were surprised to see this album selling for nearly 3,000 Euro each. Before that, this album was completely unknown. Members include: Jimmy Rorrison, Hugh Finnegan, Allan Bryce, Tommy Hendry, and Ian McEleny. Comes in a heavy sleeve; Comes as 180 gram, transparent white vinyl; Includes a two-page insert; Edition of 400 (numbered)." -Shadoks

Artist: LUNDBERG, LARS & MATS LODEN
Title: Rebecca
Format: LP
Label: Shadoks
Country: Germany
Price: $40.00
"Shadoks Music present Lars Lundberg and Mats Lodéns Rebecca. Lars Lundberg and Mats Lodén were buddies already from first grade in Luleå, located in northernmost Sweden. Although they were good friends, they did not share a musical interest during the first three school years. Lars was lucky enough to have a very special dad, who presented him a Hagström Standard 80 White Pearl electric guitar and a small amplifier on his eighth birthday in 1964. In 1973, Lars and Mats formed a new band together (Savannah) with old classmate Benny Sjödin. All three played the guitar. This was of course not an ideal setup for a band. The situation was solved by recruiting the one year younger Peter Larsson on drums. Lars played the bass guitar, as well as harmonica, recorder and alto saxophone. Benny and Mats doubled on the bass guitar when Lars was busy singing or playing another instrument. After the split of Savannah in 1975, Lars and Mats became heavily oriented towards early British progressive music. Lars was fond of bands like Pink Floyd, Traffic, and Curved Air, while Mats favored music made by for example David Bowie, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and The Doors. All songs on the album are written by Lars and Mats. With one exception, all titles and song texts are in English. There are no political ambitions whatsoever. The songs can rather be described as whimsical and psychedelic, which makes the album rather unique at the time, when Swedish music was either commercial with lyrics in English or anti-commercial with lyrics in Swedish and an outspoken political message. The album was originally pressed in 200 copies only, as it was intended to be a demo album. However, at the time no major Swedish record company showed any interest in the music. Lars sold his four-channel tape recorder, in order to afford the pressing. Most of the records were sold to friends and schoolmates in Luleå. There are very cool electric underground songs but others go in the direction of the best Tony Caro & John. A great and rare Swedish album which appears in Hans Pokorass 7001 Record Collector Dreams book with a six-star value. Comes in a heavy sleeve; Comes as 180 gram vinyl; Includes a printed inner-sleeve, a Japan protection sleeve, and a two-page insert; Edition of 400 (numbered)." - Shadoks.

Artist: RAINBOW BAND
Title: s/t
Format: Double LP
Label: Shadoks
Country: Germany
Price: $56.00
"Shadoks Music present a reissue of Rainbow Bands self-titled album, released twice, in 1970 and again in 1971. Both distinct releases are included in this reissue. Denmarks Rainbow Band was formed in late 1969 as a super-group consisting of Peer Frost (ex-Young Flowers), Lars Bisgaard (ex-Maxwells), Carsten Smedegaard (ex-Beefeaters), Bent Hesselmann, and the former jazz players Niels Brønsted and Bo Stief. They played jazz-influenced progressive rock in the style of Burnin Red Ivanhoe and Traffics self-titled second album (1968). Their rhythm section produced a powerful 60s beat, forcing Peer Frost to squeeze out some of his best guitar solos. The singer Lars Bisgaard was replaced by Allan Mortensen (ex-Tears) at the end of 1970. A Canadian group was already using the name Rainbow Band, which forced the Danish group to change their name into Midnight Sun in July 1971. Melody Maker editor Richard Williams wrote about the album in 1971, shortly after its initial release: "the first time I heard this album, I was immediately seduced by its sense of freshness and space. The styles of playing are superficially little different from those of their brothers in Britain and America, but I find the atmosphere of this music wholly more relaxed and open." The first version of the album, with vocalist Lars Bisgaard, was released in December 1970. The second version, replacing the original Bisgaard version with vocalist Allan Mortensen, came out in mid-February 1971. The third version of this album (same music but new name) came out as Midnight Suns 1971 self-titled release (AU 5030CD) with a new cover made by "Roger Dean". Beside the new vocals on both Rainbow Band versions, they differ in the songs as well. One song on the first version does not appear on the second version, and two songs on the second version do not appear on the first version. Perhaps one of the best Danish production in the 1970s, produced by Freddy Hansson and Rainbow Band; Musically, its so fine that it certainly ranks among the five best Danish 70s albums, easily. A fantastic album from beginning to the end - and both version are great. Comes in a heavy gatefold sleeve; Comes as 180 gram vinyl; Includes printed inner-sleeves, Japan protection sleeves a two-page insert with liner notes and many unseen photos; Edition of 600 (numbered)." - Shadoks.

Title: Maison Rose
Format: LP
Label: Souffle Continu
Country: France
Price: $27.00
"RSD 2017 release. Late addition. Souffle Continu Records present a reissue of Emmanuelle Parrenins Maison Rose, originally released in 1977. An album such as this obviously owes a lot to the atmosphere in which it was recorded. It took place in Fromentel, Normandy, in a farm converted into a studio by the producer Jacques Denjean, known for his work with Dionne Warwick or Françoise Hardy, as well as having been a member of the Double Six. It was also in Fromentel that Denjean would record two fantastic albums with Albert Marcoeur. When Emmanuelle Parrenin followed in his footsteps a year later, she was in good company: the sound engineer at the studio was her partner. Five years before, Bruno Menny, the sound engineer partner, recorded his first and only album, but what an album: in electroacoustic terms we can hear things which make him appear as the spiritual son of his mentor Xenakis. What makes Maison Rose unique is exactly this fusion between the two conceptions of Emmanuelle Parrenin and Bruno Menny, creating a perfect marriage of tradition and experimentation. The tradition comes from the songs collected by Emmanuelle Parrenin in rural areas, in a similar vein to the work carried out by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins. The experimentation is in the sound captured by Bruno Menny, who both arranged and recorded the album. This is not to forget those who came with their guitar (Denis Gasser), or their lyrics (Jean-Claude Vannier). Humble and non-demonstrative singing, with melodies are reminiscent of songs to calm a childs nightmares, side-by-side with a pronounced rhythmic intensity at certain points, such as on "Topaze" where the drums in particular evoke the motorik of Faust. A real haven of peace, Maison Rose is enchanting with its aura of mystery and spirituality, with soft, gentle songs which seem both ancestral and futurist. Originally published by Ballon Noir in 1977, this album follows on from other folk marvels such as Le Galant Noyé (1975) from the pre-Mélusine period. If comparisons had to be risked, Vashti Bunyan, Linda Perhacs, Joanna Newsom, Collie Ryan, Shirley Collins, Trees Community, Sourdeline, and Véronique Chalot would come to mind. High definition remastered audio from the original master tapes. Licensed from Emmanuelle Parrenin. Includes four-page booklet on 200gsm art paper, including liner notes by Archie Patterson and Maxime Delcourt. Gatefold LP; Obi strip; Pink vinyl; Edition of 700." - Souffle Continu.

Title: Perelandra
Format: LP
Label: Souffle Continu
Country: France
Price: $23.00
"RSD 2017 release. Late addition. It was some line up, even for the most open-minded: Emmanuelle Parrenin and her musicians, in 1981, opened for the Clash in Paris, at the Zénith! Unsurprisingly, the crowd roared the name of the English band as soon as the French musicians appeared on stage. Didier Malherbe responded with a saxophone improvisation with all the others joining in behind. If we believe the musician improvising, rather than following the cult playlist of 1977s Maison Rose (FFL 024LP), was what saved them. Created from previously unpublished recordings from 1978, 1981, and 1982, Pérélandra is a wonderful array of the experiments so unique to Emmanuelle Parrenin. Rather than being improvised, like the legendary show at the Zénith, these experimental tracks have a more composed instrumental form and were conceived for choreographers: mainly Pérélandra, staged with dancers from Carolyn Carlsons troupe, but also Nomade, some of the sonic environment of which can be discovered here in (superb) bits and pieces found on cassettes. In total, just under a dozen tracks are presented, including contributions on bandoneon from the Argentinian Juan José Mosalini, electric piano from the ex-Double Six Jacques Denjean, or elsewhere great electroacoustic work from the wonderful and ever-faithful Bruno Menny. All of this steeped in a sonic mix typical of the most way-out acid-folk freak-outs of the 1970s. Didier Malherbe (who just before was still playing in Gong with Daevid Allen) is on three tracks, his heady graceful agility instantly identifiable, adding to a magical and spiritual universe created with spinet dulcimer, flute, hurdy-gurdy, and other-worldly vocals (amongst other ingredients). Though very difficult to label, Pérélandra could evoke a meeting between Trees Community, Heron and Robin Williamson with Ellen Fullman, Meredith Monk and Ligeti. The whole thing is steeped in an atmosphere as intense as the ecstatic hymns of Hildegard von Bingen. Licensed from Emmanuelle Parrenin. Includes four-page booklet on 200gsm art paper, including liner notes by Emmanuelle Parrenin and Archie Patterson. Obi strip; Green Vinyl; Edition of 700." - Souffle Continu.

Title: Guitars of the Golden Triangle: Folk and Pop Music from Myanmar (Burma) Vol 2
Format: Double LP
Label: Sublime Frequencies
Country: USA
Price: $29.00
"OFFICIAL RSD 2017 release. Limited double LP vinyl gatefold edition of the long out-of-print CD from 2005 compiled by Alan Bishop. Never before presented or heard outside a minority of the Burmese community, this unbelievable collection of raw garage rock, psychedelia, folk, blues, and country music is a product of Shan and Pao musicians hailing from Myanmars largest province of Shan State - an area larger than the entire state of New York expanding across sub-tropic tablelands with an average elevation of 3000 feet, perfect for the cultivation of poppies for which it is very well known (in fact and fiction) as the center of the "Golden Triangle". Discover the music of Lashio Thein Aung (AKA "Jimmy Jack" and the "Burmese Texan"), Khun Paw Yann (a "Black Shan" Pao rocker), and Saing Saing Maw - the original Shan legend who wrote and sang garage psych rock songs, backed by a tight unit of organ, bass, drums, and perhaps the most stinging electric guitar in Burmese history. There is little reliable information about these mysterious pioneers and many Burmese have never heard any of these tracks. The tracks on this double LP set are from the 1970s and 1980s and are almost impossible to find in any form or quality. They were transferred directly from old cassette tapes and a few cuts have dropouts (some of them quite severe). Most of the master tapes are thought to have been lost or destroyed many years ago so these recordings may be the only link to a phenomenal and forgotten era of Southeast Asian music history and therefore essential for anyone interested in folk, rock and pop styles from lesser-known regions of the globe. Also features: Khun Kan Chwain, Khun Kaung Kay Maung, Nan Phin Sar, and Khun Hla Maung Law." - Sublime Frequencies.

"OFFICIAL RSD 2017 release. Subliminal Sounds present an updated reissue of a sought after psychedelic rarity, Madrigals self-titled album, originally released in 1971. Finally, the mysteries can be dispelled and the true and amazing history of this unique record can come to light. The great, lost grail of the NYC freak underground! Trading hands for $3-4000 on the rare occasions it is offered, Madrigal has grown into a legend among fans of psychedelic drone music. Heres what the book Acid Archives (2006) has to say: "... A rather amazing do-it-yourself descent into the murkiest depths of the early 1970s underground. Its two guys sitting in what sounds like a boiler room, equipped with a drum machine, an electric guitar & bass and some oscillators, hot-wiring themselves into the lysergic flow of the now. The music drones and cavorts while incomprehensible screams and dialogue lurk in the background, as heard through a locked door. The atmosphere is as thick as in a nightmare..." But Madrigals strongest achievement may be the seamless shift from the harrowing visions of machinery and faceless suffering on side one into a string of dark, haunting folk-rock numbers on side two, a transition as natural as if these were simply the two sides of the same unclassifiable coin. Pioneering at the time and still unique today, vague parallels could be made to Suicide, The Patron Saints and Velvet Undergrounds third LP (1969), but first and last, Madrigal can only be understood on its own. Presented here, remastered for superior sound and, for the first time, with the original artwork; Comes with a deluxe 12-page booklet with an in-depth interview with the creator of the album, and lots of never before seen photographs; Limited edition of 600." - Subliminal Sounds.

"By the time Rosemary Lane was released in 1971, Bert Jansch had covered a great deal of territory on numerous albums as a solo artist, collaborations with John Renbourn and records by the band in which he and Renbourn sang and played guitar, Pentangle. Returning to the intimate economy of his self-titled debut LP from a half-dozen or so years earlier, Rosemary Lane was recorded on portable equipment by engineer/producer Bill Leader and featured Jansch with no accompaniment save his guitar and voice. Rosemary Lane has elements of many of the styles Jansch covered in his extraordinarily eclectic career -- from the folk and blues that were his bedrock to medieval music -- yet cuts to the heart of his strength as spell-binding storyteller and empathic interpreter of isolation and want. Occasional instrumentals vary the mood that, like much of his work, is usually somber and introspective. Jansch once again lights the way forward with detours through the past. His sparse arrangements seamlessly merge original songwriting and traditional folk songs, while Janschs imaginative lyrics charm every step of the way -- as if speaking directly to the listener alone. This vinyl release has been carefully remastered from the original master tapes and features liner notes by Richie Unterberger." - Superior Viaduct.

Price: $12.00
"RSD 2017 release. New Zealands Pin Group emerged out of the early 80s Christchurch scene and, with just two stunning singles and one brilliant five-song EP, have become an archetype for nearly all indie bands ever since. Ambivalence was not only The Pin Groups hypnotic debut, but also the very first release on Flying Nun. While guitarist Roy Montgomery, bassist Ross Humphries and drummer Peter Stapleton build off each others jittery riffs, Montgomerys uncanny baritone pierces the torrential clangor. Conjuring both Wires Chairs Missing and VUs White Light/White Heat, the band captures a truly unique sound -- evocative, yet austere. Wasting little time, The Pin Group released Coat in November 1981, merely two months after their first single. On the title track, Humphries distant vocals call out as tense rhythms gradually push listeners over the edge. B-side track Jim could easily have been recorded in Manchester circa 1979, but remains a master class in NZ post-punk atmospherics, menacing from start to finish. The Pin Group went back into the studio in January 1982 to record their third and final classic release. Featuring an expanded five-piece lineup with Mary Heney on guitar/vocals and Peter Fryer on viola, Go To Town is a work of taut perfection. Showcasing the bands dramatic chiaroscuro textures and arresting lyrics, Long Night and When I Tell You make staggeringly clear how much sonic ground The Pin Group covered in their unfortunately short tenure. These first-time standalone reissues, featuring Ronnie van Houts original sleeve designs, are pressed on limited edition color vinyl. Now is the time to discover again the monochrome magnetism of this unparalleled and legendary band." "A reissue of Robbie Bashos Basho Sings, originally released in 1967. Its become an oft-quoted statement that John Coltrane was the Father, Pharaoh Sanders was the Son, and Albert Ayler, the Holy Ghost. It could arguably apply to the holy trinity of steel string guitarists as well. Many claim John Fahey to be the Father, Kottke was considered the Son, and Robbie Basho would certainly be considered the Holy Ghost. The Basho/Ayler similarities are many, and both pushed their idioms further physically and emotionally than all of their respective contemporaries. Basho Sings was Bashos fifth release for the Takoma label and as the title proclaims, Basho Sings showcases a unique voice that transcends the limitations of the vocal form. Hes left the pentatonic raga scales of his previous releases and showcases a unique and unparalleled take on the folk/blues song idiom. A truly outsider take on the American primitive genre, Basho Sings is finally reissued for the first time on vinyl 50 years after its initial release. The Grail & The Lotus was Bashos second release for the Takoma label, preceding the wildly prolific year of 1967 that produced three absolute classics with the Falconers Arm sets and Basho Sings (C 1012LP). Supposedly the thematics of The Grail & The Lotus came to Basho while recovering from a feverish bout of pneumonia, and in that state Basho envisioned and expressed a simultaneous glimpse of the Feudal Age, European and Japanese evocations side-by-side, both co-mingling with Knighthoods in Flower. Format: LP
Label: TAL
Country: Germany
Price: $16.00
"TAL present a reissue of Non Bands self-titled debut release, originally released in 1982 on Telegraphy Records. Yuichi Jibiky of Telegraph Records describes the release: "The Japanese punk rock movement known as Tokyo rockers began in the summer of 1978. It incubated an independent music culture as well as a host of fascinating, individualistic musicians. One of the more striking units was the male-female duo Maria 023. Non played bass for them, and it was here that she first attracted attention. However, Maria 023 was short-lived, and Non would not reappear until the following year, August 1979, on stage at the legendary concert event Drive to 80s. Her unbilled performance at the event consisted of several songs for solo bass and vocals, and her combination of intensity and a distinctly female emotionality made a striking impression. In the months that followed, Non continued to play solo and she became a pivotal presence among the female rockers on the scene at the time. Finally, she shifted from solo to group performance, and formed Non Band. After several member changes, the line-up stabilized into a unique trio with Kinosuke Yamagishi on violin and clarinet and Mitsuru Tamagaki on drums. . . . In February 1982 Non Bands first album was released as a 10-inch LP on Telegraph Records, the labels fifth release. In the early Japanese indies scene, if a release sold 1000 copies it was counted as a significant success. The Non Band album went through several repressing and sold 2000 copies. . . . Just six months after the release of the album the group would grind to a halt. Members quit the band one after another, and with no possible replacements to be found, Non herself faded away from the scene. . . . [Non] invited two fabulous musicians, Keiji Haino and Tatsuya Yoshida, to Hirosaki, and performed together with them as well as solo. This marked the beginning of a new phase for her, and she played live in Tokyo and released a solo album, ie (2002). She got back in touch with Yamagishi and Tamagaki and reformed Non Band. . . . In 2012, the group released an album of recent live performances entitled Non Band Liven 2009-2012." Includes insert with liner notes; Includes download code." - TAL.

"Pinkcourtesyphone is a continuing project by Los Angeles-based sound artist Richard Chartier. He is considered one of the key figures in the current of reductionist sound art which has been termed both microsound and neo-modernist. Chartiers minimalist digital work explores the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception, and the act of listening itself. Pinkcourtesyphone is a more emotional, dare one say musical, side of his work. Pinkcourtesyphone is dark but not arch, with a slight hint of humor. Pinkcourtesyphone is amorphous, changing, and slips in-and-out of consciousness. Pinkcourtesyphone operates like a syrup-y dream and strives to be both elegant and detached. Pinkcourtesyphone has collaborated with the likes of Cosey Fanni Tutti, Kid Congo Powers, harpist Gwyneth Wentink, AGF, William Basinski, and Evelina Domnitch. Pinkcourtesyphones work has been released internationally on labels including: Editions Mego (Austria), Room40 (Australia), Line (US), Important Records (US), Dragons Eye Recordings (US), Farmacia901 (IT), Champion Version (UK), Boomkat (UK), and IO Sound (Canada). Chartiers sound works/installations have been presented in galleries and museums internationally and he has performed his work live across Europe, Japan, Australia, and North America at digital art/electronic music festivals and exhibits. In 2000, he formed the recording label Line and has since curated its continuing documentation of compositional and installation work by international sound artists/composers exploring the aesthetics of contemporary and digital minimalism. Title: Candle Power
Format: LP
Label: Upset the Rhythm
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"Rat Columns is the mutable musical project of David West, an artist as prolific as he is diverse in his output. West is the driving force behind the groups Rank/Xerox, Liberation, and Lace Curtain, he was also a member of Total Control, and most recently debuted a solo album proper. Whether its forward-facing punk or turning his hand to crafting sleek prisms of pop, Wests credentials check out. Rat Columns is no exception, always central to his vision and returned to many times since its inception in Perth almost a decade ago. A third album, entitled Candle Power, was recorded in Guildford, Western Australia, with the Perth crew of West, Amber Gempton, Louis Hooper, and Chris Cobilis, Candle Power sees the bands universe of chiming guitar pop explode into new worlds of color and shade. Candle Power tunnels further than ever before down the pop mainline, cutting in with moments of soul, disco, and experimental plots. West is a magpie-like musician, unafraid to assemble songs from a motley collection of influences and ideas. He weaves songs together with a deft hand and an acute grasp for the memorable yet momentary. A drumroll sputters to life kicking off the album with first track "Someone Elses Dream", a bittersweet remonstrance underscored by West and Gemptons shared vocals, vivid keyboards, guitar jangle, and a resolute beat. On "Times No Vessel" West laments against a dreamy guitar refrain thats pure Johnny Marr. "Blinded By The Shadow" marks an about turn for the album, seeing the record start to flex its motorik muscles with a sequenced bassline and rock-solid drumbeat. "Is This Really What Youre Like?" takes on a similar focused shuffle only with a more minimal demeanor. Whilst, "Candle Power II" takes the disco to the other side of the tracks with its shimmering synths, violin drones, and uniform beat. "Northern Soul" chases its own heartbeat through lush, sweeping synths and hushed refrains. "Dream Tonight" concludes the album with its propulsive drum machine, searching keyboard lines, and effusive bassline. Its a tour de force of pristine pop akin to New Order in its ability to capture this mercurial feeling, to listen through the music. Candle Power as an album is enamored with the fleeting, the difference between letting go and moving on." - Upset The Rhythm.

"First-ever US vinyl of the debut album by Bristols Flying Saucer Attack, and first vinyl edition of any kind since 1993! This edition of the album is produced in full collaboration with FSA/Dave Pearce. Aka Rural Psychedelia, Flying Saucer Attacks first album was released in 1993 after a couple of instantly sold-out singles. Released at the height of the shoegaze boom, the album is a blend of memorable fuzzed out songs and far-out instrumental doodles, sidestepping the rock bombast of many contemporaries in favor of a home-made aesthetic. FSAs blend of razor-edged static, softly sung melody, and echoing atmospherics builds a dour beauty that sustains itself over the course of the entire program. My Dreaming Hill, Wish, and The Season Is Ours are couched in fuzz and whispery reverb, but are beautiful and accessible tunes, able to stand on their own in any context. Popol Vuh 1 and Popol Vuh 2 are straight up tributes to the now much better known German masters, steeped in the hushed atmosphere of the best Vuh records (if not exactly the sound)." - VHF.

Title: Through The Looking Glass (Limited Audiophile Edition)
Format: Double 12"
Label: WRWTFWW & Palto Flats
Country: Switzerland
Price: $40.00
"Comes in a gatefold Stoughton "Tip-On" jacket. Palto Flats and We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records present the highly-anticipated reissue of Japanese percussionist Midori Takadas sought after and timeless ambient/minimal album Through The Looking Glass, originally released in 1983 by RCA Japan. Considered a holy grail of Japanese music by many, Through The Looking Glass is Midori Takadas first solo endeavor, a captivating four-song suite capturing her deep quests into traditional African and Asian percussive language and exploring contemplative ambient sounds with an admirably precise use of marimba. The result is alternatively ethereal and vibrant, always precise and mesmerizing, and makes for an atmospheric masterpiece and an unparalleled sonic and spiritual experience. Midori Takada is a composer, multi-percussionist, and theater artist renowned in Japanese vanguard circles. Midori has released two solo albums: Through The Looking Glass and Tree Of Life (1999) and wrote music for Tadashi Suzukis theater plays. Her hypnotic, minimalist music is based in the concept of coherence between sound and the human body. She performs solo on marimba and other percussion instruments. She debuted on the scene of Berlin Philharmonic, performing with the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester Berlin just after graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1974. She continued her career with solo concerts in Japan and abroad. In the 1980s, Midori began to explore the traditional music of Asia and Africa. Her fascination resulted in joint projects with Kakraba Lobi from Ghana, Lamine Konte from Senegal, Farafina Band from Burkina Faso, and Korean musicians: zither player Chi Seong-Ja, flute player Won-Il, and saxophone player Kang Tae-Hwan. She also led Mkwaju Ensembles innovative percussion project and still performs with free-jazz band Ton-Klami with Kang Tae-Hwan and jazz pianist Masahiko Satoh. Takadas compositions have a remarkable way of affecting the imagination. Her minimalist, contemplative music is filled with the concept of infinity and reminds us of a moon voyage, falling stars, a journey into the ocean, or a walk in the garden. The trans melodies, initially simple, begin to loop and splinter, their rhythm breaking and thickening, slowly drawing the listener into another reality. This fully licensed reissue comes with extensive liner notes." - WRWTFWW & Palto Flats.
