Artist: INVISIBLE HANDS, THE Title: S/T Format: Double LP Label: Abduction Country: USA Price: $28.00 |
| "Limited edition 2LP. The Invisible Hands is the English translation of the bands original Egyptian Arabic name: El Ayadi El Khafeyya. Taking almost two years to create amidst an unusual and challenging backdrop, this is the new project of Alvarius B. (Alan Bishop of Sun City Girls). Eleven highly-crafted songs projected through his typically dark lens of songwriting and a band of brilliant musicians from Egypt; this special edition limited 2LP includes the English and Arabic language vocal versions of the album together in one set. Sides A and B are the English album delivered in ABs patented sinister style, drenched in lovely psychedelic folk arrangements and vocal choruses with a nod to what could have potentially been an album that surfaced decades ago but instead found its way into the future, superimposed over historic and tumultuous times in the center of the Arab world. Sides C and D are the Arabic version -- the exact same 11 songs but the lead vocals are sung in Arabic by Cherif El Masri and Aya Hemeda. The mixes are almost identical but there are various subtle differences in instrumentation, vocal choruses, and effects. The group was established during the summer of 2011 and the album was recorded in Cairo in May of 2012. Band members include Cherif El Masri and Aya Hemeda (both former members of popular Egyptian group Eskenderella) with drummer Magued Nagati. On a handful of songs, several other players from the Cairo scene are featured including Sam Shalabi (Shalabi Effect/Land Of Kush) on oud and Mohamed Medhat on violin and viola. This limited edition one-time 2LP vinyl pressing comes in a beautiful heavy-duty gatefold jacket with full-color artwork and all lyrics and credits printed in English and Arabic." -Abduction. |

Artist: EMMANUEL, JD Title: Time Traveler Format: Double LP Label: Aguirre Country: USA Price: $27.00 |
| "Kudos to Lieven Martens of Dolphins Into The Future for bringing J.D. Emmanuel back into the spotlight. In 2007, Lieven dug up the masterpiece album Wizards and re-issued it on his own label. A few years later, in 2011, J.D. was asked to tour through Europe where he was accompanied by Dolphins Into The Future and Paul LaBrecque. Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, and Holland welcomed J.D. and the people attending the concerts knew they were in for an electronic blast from the past. This 2LP set covers the tour with a great deal of unreleased live tracks. The live recordings show J.D.s phenomenal skill to create a universe of swirling and constantly turning sounds. Hes up there in the big league of early electronic and new age pioneers with the likes of Iasos, Laurie Spiegel, and Trans-Millenia Consort. Some words from the man himself: "After my European tour, I decided to use the name Time Traveler to describe my music because it can put the listener into a state where time seems to disappear. This is my goal with my music, to create an altered state for expanding consciousness." With Hawaiian-inspired artwork, just like J.D.s colorful character, and of course, his T-shirts. Includes a glossy double-sided insert. Mastered by J.D. Emmanuel. Pressed @ Handle With Care, Berlin. Limited edition of 500 copies." - Aguirre. |

Artist: ROACHCLIP Title: Discovery Park Format: 12" Label: All Gone Country: USA Price: $16.00 |
| "A year in the making for this psych monger, finally going to be launched into the threshold. Our local friends Kevin and Alex say hey it sounds like a "lazy version of the desperate bicycles", Morgan seems to think its "groovy"... Some guy at a gig said "Youll sound like the Doors if they were good" but The doors are good hombre... Maybe if a lost Vacuum record crossed ways with them folky/jangle Rayne styles blended in the spice of DIY basement ethos, youd find the Godz have spoke in tongue. Stand in line for "this Bloody Mary"....." - All Gone. |

Artist: ELG Title: Mil Pluton Format: LP Label: Alter Country: UK Price: $21.00 |
| "Second edition repressed on 150 gram vinyl into color reverse board jackets. Èlg is Laurent Gerard. Since 2000, Élg has made a name for himself in the experimental underground performing solo in venues across Europe and the USA and also in the trio Reines DAngleterre with Jo Tanz and Ghédalia Tazartès. Over the years he has built a complex body of work which has been spread amongst reputable labels such as Kraak, SS, Lal Lal Lal, Taped Sounds and Nashazphone. Now, four years since his debut, Tout Ploie, Alter and Hundebiss present Mil Pluton, the second Èlg album on vinyl. In that time, Gerard has knuckled down with a bunch of new gear and built a fresh sound which is difficult to categorize but still carries many of the characteristics of his previous work. One can hear EBM-esque rhythms, scalpel-sharp musique concrète-style editing, dense layers of swampy electronics which open up the same hypnotic spirals that the Èlg of old did. Vocally, Èlg has evolved beyond conventional language and now works with an Esperanto-like form of alien linguistics to front the sonic mass. If your musical interests sit within the realm of outer limits electronics and have been drawn towards the work of Throbbing Gristle,Bernard Szajner, Coil and Tazartes, then look no further. Mil Pluton also features musical contributions from Jo Tanz, Jean-Philippe Gross, Bill Kouligas (PAN), TG Gondard and Jan Anderzen(Tomutonttu/Kemialliset Ystävät). All tracks were composed, recorded and mixed by Èlg in Brussels in 2011, then mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin in December of that same year, and pressed lovingly onto 150 gram vinyl by Alter and Hundebiss in September 2012. Edition of 300 copies, housed in an elaborate fold-out jacket." -Alter. |

Artist: V/A Title: Five Days Married & Other Laments: Song and Dance from Northern Greece, 1928-1958 Format: LP Label: Angry Mom Country: USA Price: $23.00 |
| "Featuring sublime and unhinged music rarely heard outside of Northern Greece and Southern Albania, the performances presented in this collection span the range of plaintive, ancient dirges to hypnotic, droning dance pieces. The style, repertoire, and songs from this isolated region are unearthly in their euphonic appeal. Most of the sides on this LP have not been issued since they were originally pressed on 78 rpm disc. A deep set of notes is accompanied by comprehensive lyrical translations as well as original artwork by R. Crumb. Respectfully crafted by Christopher King and Susan Archie for Angry Mom Records. Original artwork by Robert Crumb. Fourteen songs housed in a deluxe gatefold LP." - Angry Mom. |

Artist: YEAST CULTURE Title: IYS Format: LP Label: Art Into Life Country: Japan Price: $34.00 |
“This is a field of action implied, in the many possibilities and several contextualities of time...”,“...projecting music outside the realm of musicology, with a well structured leap into the biological realm of sound and perception...” citing the IYS LP for example in note 56.
– excerpted from Part II of THE NOISE OF HISTORIES by Giancarlo Toniutti, posted on http://www.23five.org
"Full color deluxe gatefold, 180g gray vinyl printed by original artists! Fully opens to tree diagrams poster!
IYS – stem, branch, expression. Radiative expansion.
The tree is silent. Make it speak. Assault on Venus.
Cartesian grid or dimensional zones? Plants & animals.
Airplanes, birds. When we hear a natural sound, how is it
perceived? Is destruction an abberation in space-time?
Process music. Nature can be quite quiet. Infrequent sounds in isolation. Overnight Campsite. Revealed roots. Primitive sound genesis. Time lapse structures. Wild environments. Some things in nature are meant to be broken, like the shell of a nut. Sound of life torn apart. Not the brittle crispiness of dried fall. Pattern perception. A specific, localized sound environment. Tree removal. Reverse animation. Search for the right sized subject. Madrona. Logging roads, island trek. Sacrifice. Microcosm in sound recording. Detailed exclusion. No looping. A finite numbered sequence. Its inversion alongside. A trailer full of dissected specimen. Ladder and camera. The cultivation of a sonic germ. Is the spirit intact? A single flower tops the tree. The waxy green leaves are first plucked. Its a skeletal reversal rehearsal. Displaced matter. Three days of taping. Prepared systematic process. Horizontal reorientation of sound contents. Wood audio emissions. Tanglewood. Time compression shifting. Tiny becomes tinier. Tinny becomes tinnier. Analog reels reality analogue. The beast has left. Careful with that axe! Levels zero and one on up to the branch tips. Field drawings and photos. Archeological dig in the dirt. Unearthed trunk. A missing organism is globally dispensed with. And still this thing persists. A strange evolution through sound. Creepy." - Art Into Life.

Artist: MAX LOAD Title: Max Load Format: LP/CD/DVD Label: BDR Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "MAX LOAD was formed and began playing live shows around Belleville in 1978. They soon were playing in St. Louis as well, but they never would be treated as equals. They were often forced to play first, before much less competent bands, or dead last, when the St. Louis crowd was anxious to get to the after-party. Last often meant playing to an empty room, rather than being the coveted headlining spot. Out shining most of the Missouri bands around at the time, they released a scorching two song 45 ("X-Rod" b/w "Magazine Sex") in 1979 on their own label. It was mostly intended as a calling card to secure gigs, but some copies were sold locally and a few even distributed by Bomp! Records in CA. The band would go on to record studio demos in 1980 at the request of Epic Records and would commit countless songs to tape with their own 4-track recorder. They were also the only punk band in the area to pay attention to and be featured on the short-lived cable access TV show, Street Beat. Although Max Load started out with a fairly traditional punk sound, by 1981 they started writing more post punk and art punk influenced material. This new direction can be heard on the included 4-track demos. Like so many other bands, they never got that record deal or big break they were hoping for. By late 1982, most members had moved on to new projects and the band was gone by 1983. The Max Load release is comprised of all studio recordings from 1979-1983. The X-Rod 45 is included, along with 22 never-before-released 8-track and 4-track demos. The package includes a 14-song LP, a 24-song CD and a DVD that features a 20-song live performance, recorded for cable access TV in 1981. The CD and DVD come with a title card in a protective sleeve thats tucked inside the LP jacket, along with a double sided 11"x17" insert featuring numerous photos, gig posters and extensive liner notes." - BDR. |

Artist: PHILOSOPHIC COLLAGE Title: Genius Format: 7" Label: BDR Country: USA Price: $7.50 |
| "According to the original St. Louis punk crowd, the Philosophic Collage and band leader Craig Kurtz (aka Timothy Tyme) were mildly difficult, if not completely off-putting. Their brand of abrasive music and Craigs "genius" schtick was too hard to take. When the band released this EP in 1981, most were confused by the four blasts of Art Punk/Midwestern No Wave, uh...if there really is such a thing as No Wave in the Midwest. It did impress Rough Trade enough to pick it up for distribution, even if the local response was less than enthusiastic. The band only managed to play a handful of area gigs before nobody wanted to book them. They were far more successful in Chicago. Playing larger gigs to more receptive audiences and even signing on with a manager. Two cassettes were released after the EP, but it was all over by 1982 when Craig split the band up after an attempt to relocate to Chicago had failed. BDR Records (the St. Louis-only division of Rerun Records) presents a deluxe reissue of this curiosity. 500 copies pressed on thick black vinyl. Housed in a heavy duty glue-pocket sleeve with a double-sided 14"x7" insert featuring vintage zine write-ups, ads and reviews, along with new liner notes by Craig Kurtz." -BDR. |

Artist: HAINO/JIM OROURKE/OREN AMBARCHI, KEIJI Title: Now While Its Still Warm Let Us Pour in All the Mystery Format: LP Label: Black Truffle Country: Australia Price: $25.00 |
| "Following on from 2012s acclaimed Imikizushi (BT 007CD/LP), Now While Its Still Warm Let Us Pour in All the Mystery is the fourth release from the established power trio of Keiji Haino, Jim ORourke, and Oren Ambarchi, recorded in January 2012 at their yearly concert at SuperDeluxe, Tokyo. While the trios two previous double LP releases featured sprawling, side-long performances, the music here is presented in six shorter pieces, each one displaying a different side of the trios interactions, from holy minimalism to cave-man rock. The record begins with the trio joined by special guests Charlemagne Palestine and Eiko Ishibashi, conjuring ghostly tones from wine glasses as an accompaniment to Hainos angelic vocals. This 10-minute piece, which moves from near silence and the sound of onstage footsteps to a stunning passage of clean guitar work from Haino, is steeped in the same mysterious atmospherics as Hainos great folk-drone project, Nijumu. When Haino turns to the flute on the LPs second track, a performance that clearly demonstrates the importance of the special concept of space and silence (ma) that Haino has developed from traditional Japanese aesthetics, ORourke and Ambarchi transform into the delicate and probing rhythm section of a classic 70s fusion side. When the trio returns to the crushing free-rock of their last two records, ORourkes heavily effected bass rolling alongside Ambarchis tumbling rhythms as Hainos guitar squeals and slashes above them, their performances display a new purposefulness and concision. Now truly operating as a band after a number of years of playing together, the pieces here feel like instant rocks songs -- ORourke and Ambarchi instantly locking into solid riffs over which Haino alternates between jarring no-wave chords, intense soloing and his signature vocalizations. When the trio slow down and stretch out, the rhythm section plods like an abstracted Crazy Horse on the brink of collapse, and Haino elicits long, mournful solos reminiscent of the first classic Fushitsusha double live LP. Perhaps more accessible than the trios previous recordings because of its range and concision, Now While Its Still Warm... exudes the dark, alien quality of Hainos greatest recordings and testifies to the strength of the musical bond that has developed between these three players." -Francis Plagne, Jan 2013. |

Artist: DALHOUS Title: An Ambassador for Laing Format: LP Label: Blackest Ever Black Country: UK Price: $22.00 |
| "Debut album from the Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander, who work with intricately-stacked percussion, dub-wise bass and a rich harmonic tapestry of processed voices, keys, harp, vibraphone, guitar, woodwind, strings and synthesizer -- every sound re-sampled to the nth degree then subjected to subtle automation and rigorously fine-tuned over a period of many months. From the mesmerizing, pastoral drift of "Anger Sees Red" and "Dwelling by the Meadow" to agitated arabesques like "The Physical Body" and the self-titled "Dalhous," the resulting pieces explore dream-like but treacherous terrain. Eleven questions in a world of blue." - Blackest Ever Black. |

Artist: ROEDELIUS Title: Offene Turen Format: LP Label: Bureau B Country: Germany Price: $22.00 |
| 180 gram vinyl. "Offene Türen is a purely electronic album. Without losing himself in their infinite tonal possibilities, Roedelius delights in playing a selection of synthesizers. He even deploys an analog rhythm machine now and then to discreet effect. Roedelius takes great care to steer well clear of any cosmic fog or de-personalized abstractions. Nothing of the sort can be heard, as he focuses intensely and exclusively on the relationships of rhythm, harmony, and melody. Roedelius conjures up their delicate timbres on synthesizer with the greatest of ease. The seasoned electronic musician would have found similar results beyond the reach of his good old Farfisa organ. Offene Türen is an album of electronic chamber music and only someone with as sunny a disposition as Roedelius could be its composer and performer. Indeed, the unfettered Roedelius knew no artistic barriers in the early 1980s, following a turbulent period of personal upheaval amidst the musical revolution going on around him. He began to open up a brand new musical world, venturing forth with typical humility, as quietly and steadfastly as ever. Offene Türen marks a kind of threshold which Roedelius crosses in the moment of its inception: one foot in the glorious 1970s, the other already reaching into the uncharted future of the 1980s. Roedelius did not surrender his musical identity in the process, nor did he modify his inimitable artistic handwriting. Both had attained a level of complexity that perhaps he himself would have found surprising in earlier days. Those who have listened carefully to Roedelius both before and after Offene Türen will appreciate the albums significance. But even leaving such historical reminiscences aside, this music is incredibly vibrant and beautiful. Listening to it now is as great a pleasure as it was at the time of its creation. Clearly, Roedelius has always been an absolute master of timelessness." -Asmus Tietchens. |

| "This legendary Austrian beat/mod/psychedelic band existed from 1978 to 1982. The album A Doll Spits Cubes was self-released by the band in an edition of 300, gone in days, once repressed as a bootleg and heavily sought-after in the years to come until today. Artist: GREG BORING Title: Heavy Syrup Format: LP+CD Label: Critical Heights Country: UK Price: $26.00 |

Artist: KITCHEN AND THE PLASTIC SPOONS Title: Screams To God Format: LP Label: Dark Entries Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "KITCHEN AND THE PLASTIC SPOONS formed at a basement rehearsal studio in Stockholm, Sweden during the spring of 1980. The band consisted of ANNE TAIVAN (vocals), HELENA LONGQVIST (synthesizer), IGGO KARLSSON (synthesizer), JACIE PAZDA (bass), and MATS WIGERDAL (drums). After a few concerts, Kitchen booked some free studio time and recorded their first single "Serve You!" in two days. Six months later PATRIK LINDVALL (guitar) joined the group and the band recorded their second single "Ice Cream To God" in early 1981. Kitchens sound was getting darker and heavier and so was the mood in the band. Anne shortly left and was replaced by IODINE JUPITER on vocals. This new line up recorded a few songs for local compilations. The band broke up in November 1981 before recording their debut LP. Screams To God collects Kitchen And The Plastic Spoons two 7" EPs, two compilation tracks as well as three demos from 1980 never before released on vinyl. Kitchen were part of the new DIY generation starting bands, making self- produced singles and rapidly breaking up. Their sound echoes the speedy chaotic energy with the synthesizer as its driving pulse. Annes vocals are barely understandable but they have a sense of urgency. They didnt sound like any other band in Sweden at the time, having more in common with American bands, Devo, The Screamers and Pere Ubu. Packaged in full color spot gloss jackest with a photo of Anne with bright magenta hair. Each LP includes an insert with liner notes, song descriptions and photos." -Dark Entries. |

Artist: Q4U Title: Q1 Deluxe Edition 1980-1983 Format: LP Label: Dark Entries Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "Q4U was born the winter of 1980-1981 in Reykjavik, inspired by the British punk movement. By early 1982 they self-released a full length cassette, Skaf I Dag and appeared in the documentary Rokk I Reykjavik, which showcased the Icelandic punk scene. This version of the band ended and only two members continued on. In the summer of 1982 their drummer was replaced by a Roland TR-808 drum machine they named "Elisabet II", signaling a change in the groups sound toward synthesizer-driven post punk. In August 1983 they recorded a final set of demos and then called it quits. This compilation collects 16 songs from 1980-1983. SIde A features the original six songs from the Q1 EP, plus two songs from the Rokk i Reykjavik soundtrack. Side B collects four demos from 1982 and four demos from 1983, all presented on vinyl for the first time ever. Q4U began with a stylish, aggressive punk image before experimenting with drum machines and synthesizers, which almost nobody did in Reykjavik at the time. The later sound had gothic leanings, often compared with Siouxsie and the Banshees and Xmal Deutschland. Their body of work is united by the powerful vocals of Ell, who mostly sings in Icelandic about controversial, political experiences, much like Ari Up of The Slits. Each LP includes a double sized fold-out poster with lyrics, photos and drawings by the band plus a Q4U sticker!" -Dark Entries. |

Artist: JEFFERIES, PETER Title: The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World Format: LP Label: De Stijl Country: USA Price: $21.00 |
| "Peter Jefferiess extraordinary debut solo album, The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World, first saw life as a cassette via the Xpressway label of Port Chalmers, New Zealand, in 1990. As a result of some international underground acclaim in fanzines and mailorder catalogs -- for both the album and a striking 7-inch, The Fate of the Human Carbine, released around the same time -- it soon appeared on LP and CD as well, through the Ajax label of Chicago. Within a couple of years it slipped out of print and out of sight. Twenty years later were putting it back on wax which includes the songs from the attendant single, and no amount of remastering, whatsoever. Though no ones gotten around to writing a book on it yet, The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World nonetheless stands as one of the singular singer-songwriter albums of all time, existing on a sparsely populated plane with Pink Moon, Blues Run, the Game, Our Mother the Mountain and not many others. In a sandy voice that soothes and slashes, Jefferies offers a piercingly, crushingly lucid view of the endeavor of life, all our pain and small glories rendered in tones both harrowing and tender. On piano, drums and percussion, he pounds out melodies that roar, sweep and lilt, accompanied on many songs by the serrated guitars of a variety of players. Featuring a small team of South Island heavy-hitters -- all three members of the Dead C as well as David Mitchell (3Ds), Alastair Galbraith, Kathy Bull (Look Blue Go Purple, Cyclops), Nigel Taylor and Robbie Muir (whos co-billed on the single) -- Last Great Challenge provides a pivot point in Jefferiess formidable recording career, which included two bands he shared with his brother Graeme in the 80s, Nocturnal Projections and This Kind of Punishment, and four further solo albums, as well as stints in bands here (Mecca Normal, Two Foot Flame) and there (Plagal Grind, Cyclops)." -De Stijl. |

Artist: BLUES CONTROL Title: Valley Tangents Format: Cass Label: Drag City Country: USA Price: $9.00 |
| "Theres a new muse at the house of BLUES CONTROL. Yes, mother nature! Now located in the Woodstock of east Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley, Blues Control conceived Valley Tangents far from the madding crowds theyd previously swarmed with and composed among. Could this be the reason for the homegrown, natural feel of the music, with the metronomical hissing of summer mosquito-bots behind their signature Debussy via Guaraldi qua Bley qua Hornsby pianisms, and the playful juxtapositions of a full spectrum of rock colors: stadium, industrial, psych and prog (to name just a few)? And yet, Blues Controls shape-shifting qualities could lead us to type them as a mystic lounge act, with spacey guitar leads, a clarion synth and the punch of real drums. Only to suddenly discover they were instead playing inside a world music bag, wrapping their mellow drug-mospheres around a crisp keyboard center, evoking heat and nature with waves radiating from seemingly formal western scales! The exotic and the classical, wedded together with a freedom the old masters couldnt imagine. Of course, man has always yearned to smoke the grass on the other side of his societys fence-like McCartney in the jungle playing his staid English beats while running through ebony and ivory scales, Blues Control are liable to superimpose the British blues over new waves just to feel the juice run down their legs. Upon hearing Valley Tangents, long-time listeners will surely attest that the band are increasingly capable of anything in the spectrum they feel should be integrated." - Drag City. |

Artist: RAY, BRENDA Title: DYa Hear Me!: Naffi Years, 1979-83 Format: LP Label: EM Country: Japan Price: $23.00 |
"Sweet post-punk, with a heartfelt reggae/funk influence, analog dub effects and lovely femme-vox. A unique slice of late 70s/early-80s goodness, starring Brenda Ray, whose previous release on EM Records, "Walatta" has been embraced by a large number of listeners. Recorded in Northwest England, DYa Hear Me! is warm-hearted, open, fresh and slyly experimental. With an independent spirit and a true D.I.Y. soul, these 13 tracks, originally released in various formats by Ray aka Brenda Kenny aka Natalie Sand aka Polly Rithm and her musical friends under the moniker(s) Naffi/Naffi Sandwich, were recorded in a simple homemade studio, making full use of the creative options opened up through the full use of simple means -- although the warm, full audio belies any notions of primitivism. Far from media-crazed London, Naffi created a musical world free from lust for the spotlight, focusing solely on the music, and the results are fittingly pure. DYa Hear Me! is a wide-ranging release, with lovely vocal tracks, warm dubs and pleasingly odd instrumentals, all knitted together with a special trans-Atlantic rhythmic sense. Two songs of special interest here are "Moonbeams" and the Young Marble Giants-esque "Everyday Just Another Dream," which are early versions of "Starlight" and "Another Dream" from Walatta. Also noteworthy are several previously-unissued longer versions of some songs. Comes with an insert with (Japanese & English) liner notes written by Brenda Ray, plus rare photos." - EM.

Artist: MELNYK, LUBOMYR Title: Corollaries Format: CD Label: Erased Country: UK Price: $18.00 |
| "Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk -- the pioneer of Continuous Piano Music -- presents his first release on UK label Erased Tapes. Entitled Corollaries, the album was recorded and produced by Peter Broderick with the additional help of Nils Frahm and Martyn Heyne. Erased Tapes founder Robert Raths knew it was time to share the great musical legacy of Melnyk, to which he simply responded: "Where were you guys when I was thirty?" Melnyk is a true innovator, exploring new directions in contemporary music. Classically-trained and greatly affected by the minimalist movement in the early 1970s, the Ukrainian pianist developed his own unique language for the piano, named after the principle of maintaining a continuous, unbroken stream of sound. Melnyk has shown a remarkable devotion to the instrument, always striving to discover new ways of composing music in the continuous mode. His focus is on the actual sound of the piano as much as the harmonies and melodies of the music. Playing rapid and complex note patterns made Lubomyr one of the worlds fastest concert pianists. His virtuoso piano technique forms overtones that blend, collide or even create new melodies in rare moments, and thereby shape the composition beyond its original form. In the artists own words: "My first encounter with Peter was at the Ambient Festival in Cologne, when I came into the cathedral where he was playing along with Nils. I was amazed and enthralled by the beauty and power of their music. The colors and majesty of the cathedral coupled with their music made it a great experience I will never forget. Some time later, Peter contacted me with an invitation to come visit him in Berlin and try creating some music together. I had not played improvisation with other ambient musicians before, having worked solo for all these past years. So it was such a relief to start playing at his studio and hear his wonderful input. He was adding a beautiful and delicate dust cover of sounds and pearly effects that cast a lovely sparkle over the piano music -- I loved it. It was a thrill to hear Continuous Music in some new clothes! And with the addition of Nils and Martyn, we all felt the beautiful spell of the communal flow as the music carried us into wonderful spaces." The album artwork and design was created by American contemporary artist Gregory Euclide, known for his cover art for Bon Ivers self-titled album." -Erased. |

| "2013 repress; 180 gram exact repro reissue of this legendary, super rare U.S. psych LP, originally recorded during the dawn of mankind or in Connecticut in 1972." - Here Music/On. "This is a messed-up, freaky mix of folk-rock, psychedelia and heavy rock. There appears to be somewhat of a Christian vibe lyrically, but not overt enough to make it too cheesy, just adds to the overall bizarreness of this almost indescribable artifact!" -- Cosmik Debris |

Artist: ARIEL PINK Title: Thrash and Burn Format: Double CD Label: Human Ear Country: Germany Price: $19.00 |
| "An absorbing look at Ariel Rosenbergs early musique concrète epic. "As with stored memories one has acquired early in life, Thrash and Burn survives for me less as a finished piece of music in/itself or even a moment captured in time; more a catalog of lifetimes, each piece unique and unnamed, together they recall glimpses of forgotten future-pasts; in cosmology, as one peers ever deeper into the void, first beyond the fixed population density of stars nestled in a suburb at the outer edge of our galaxy, into an evermore all-encompassing blackness surrounding a thin lane of galaxies, one heads off in one direction, floating along a lonely string of Christmas lights which recede with the distance. Much further downstream, a giant wall of light scaffolding fades into view. That is destinys orphan multiverse inhabiting a single frame in its infancy. In time, we would transcend it. From where we stand our footsteps recede and fade into the darkness. But our beginnings are not lost; for someone standing off and above our horizon, in a human ear much more young, the secret of our coming of age shall be preserved revealed and discovered yet once again...." -Ariel Pink, November 2012; Thrash and Burn dates from a time when Ariel Rosenberg, then a few years from turning "Pink," first proclaimed himself a "20th Century Composer" without a trace of irony in his voice. Appropriately, this early work takes the form of a musique concrète epic forged from Rosenbergs late-90s faux-primitif, garage-punk, and tape-loop experiments. At 94 minutes and 36 tracks, Thrash and Burn displays the symphonic ambitions of his genre-devouring pop saga, Haunted Graffiti, but with little in the way of fastidious album-oriented constructions. Rather, Thrash and Burn is a free-form tape ramble that uses gauzy atmospherics to strike up a wicked dialogue with the likes of Rosenbergs non-pop influences, like Iannis Xenakis, Pierre Schaeffer, and Luc Ferrari. (In particular, Schaeffers "Symphonie pour un homme seul" seems to get plenty of nods here.) Thrash and Burn was discovered in 2005, in an ankle-deep pile of cracked cassettes and scratched CD-Rs in Rosenbergs Beverly Hills flat. Grier and Rosenberg then made an initial reconstruction attempt, and Thrash and Burn became a 4-cassette box set for the inaugural release of Human Ear Music, in 2006. The Wikipedia page for Thrash and Burn places its origin sometime in 1998. It was remastered in September 2012 in Berlin, Germany. The final master was brought up to 24-bit resolution, dynamically and tonally balanced on an Apogee Rosetta and two solid-aluminum monoblock amps." -Human Ear. |

Artist: JOHNSON, DENNIS Title: November Format: 4 CD Boxset Label: Irritable Hedgehog/Penultimate Country: UK Price: $32.00 |
| "First recording of Dennis Johnsons 5-hour minimalist masterpiece, November. Until recently, one of the most substantial and significant pieces of the minimalist repertoire was virtually unknown. Written in 1959 by Dennis Johnson, November was purportedly six hours long as originally conceived. La Monte Young, who knew Johnson while at UCLA in the late 50s, credited the piece for inspiring The Well-Tuned Piano. November anticipated many trends in minimalist music in addition to its prodigious duration: diatonic tonality, additive processes, and repetition of small motives. It is beautiful, slow-paced, and introspective, and was nearly lost entirely. Penultimate Press and Irritable Hedgehog are proud to announce the first ever release of this historically significant and thoroughly engaging work. Kyle Gann rescued November from obscurity, reconstructing the piece from the only existing materials: a hiss-ridden, 112-minute cassette recording played by Dennis Johnson himself (which Gann received from La Monte Young) and a rough score he received from Johnson. The score, such as it is, consists of several pages of short musical ideas, meant to be improvised upon as desired by the performer. Flexible instructions are also given for the order of the material to be performed. Pianist R. Andrew Lee has established himself in recent years as one of the foremost interpreters of the minimalist piano repertoire and has boldly embraced the challenge of this monumental work. Utilizing Ganns reconstructed score, he has recorded a sublime interpretation which finally documents one of the most important lost works in the 20th century canon. At once highly listenable, melancholic, warm and unique, Dennis Johnsons November is a work of immense historical significance that will appeal to those with a taste for 20th century repertoire, minimalism, exploratory piano works, and substantial and haunting works of art. November comes in a deluxe box with 4 cds in individual slipcases and a 20 page booklet featuring reproductions the original score (and Johnsons later annotations) along with an essay on the work by noted critic Kyle Gann and anecdotal essays by Andy Lee, David McIntire and Mark Harwood."- Penultimate Press. |

Artist: NO NECK BLUES BAND Title: CINo 51 Format: LP Label: Kelippah Country: USA Price: $17.00 |
|
"Previously, a boy dreams the dreams of many other boys. He meets three other boys and they dream together. Sadly, one of his co-dreamers dreams become nightmare. In an effort to avoid seeing their own dreams relegated back to sleeping, our hero and his fair dreaming compatriots leave their troubled friend to face his nightmares on his own. His nightcap is quickly filled and the boys march forward, eventually seeing all of their dreams made manifest.
In this installment our boy has become a man too accustomed to living his boy dreams. When he places his head upon his pillow these days there is nothing, as if there is nothing left to dream of. Perhaps his conspirators sense this? They dream apart now and our heros empty nights only serve to marginalize him from these other boys. Our man must be gifted with powers beyond the ordinary because, much as his boy dreams had become real, so too his man dreams of emptiness soon become his waking life. Unlike his lost troubled co-dreamer from years past, his nightmares are far too mundane for anyone to care about. He dies this way.
Special thanks to Charlie Gilmour, millionaire.
Hand painted in iondine." - Kelippah. |

Artist: NO NECK BLUES BAND Title: YTIU Format: LP Label: Kelippah Country: USA Price: $17.00 |
| "No Neck Blues Band are the last of their kind, children of a New York City that no longer exists. Theyve operated in the shadows of Gothams music scene for almost 20 years as likely to perform in art galleries as loft spaces. No Neck Blues Band are revolutionaries, carrying on the search for freedom through improvisation that began after Coltrane liberated jazz. But No Neck Blues Band dont play jazz per se, or any other known idiom for that matter. Their sound has its precedents most notably the genre-blurring, early-70s work of Englands Third Ear Band and German groups Exmagma and recent co-conspirators Embryo. No Neck Blues Band further those explorers investigations of non-Western sounds by infusing them with psychedelic-rock dynamics, the tenets of minimalism and Fluxus-inspired performance. Each No Neck Blues Band record is a spontaneously composed ritual containing a variety of hard-to-pronounce acoustic instruments, unmoored percussion, guitars, keyboards and various electronics, at once familiar and exotic. While a few members have come and gone, No Neck Blues Band is Keith Connolly, Michiko, Jason Meagher, Pat Murano, David Nuss and David Shuford. No Neck Blues Band activity has been sparse in recent years since their celebrated rehearsal/performance space in Harlem, The Hint House, fell victim to gentrification. Recorded in 2009 at Faust Studios in Germany, YTIU is the avant-gangs latest offering and finds them in one of their more accessible moods. Only during the second half of Side As Platinum Willows does the band indulge its tendency for atonality. YTIUs second side fittingly dedicated to departed Pink Floyd member Richard Wright is a keyboard-dominated stunner that is more Saucerful of Secrets than The Wall. Mixed by Murano and released in an edition of 300 copies (vinyl, naturally) on his own label, Kelippah, YTIU is another exceptional document by one of the most vital bands New York City has ever birthed. Stream it below, and head here to see if there are any copies left."- Jeff Conklin, East Village Radio. Hand painted with iodine and Aqua-Net. Highly recommended!! |

Artist: SAINTE ANTHONYS FYRE Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Lion Productions Country: USA Price: $19.00 |
| "Official reissue of ultra-rare 1970 wasted underground hard rock monster! Wild, loud, raw New Jersey hard psych beast thats been a favorite target of record collectors, dealers and swamp dwellers for the past two decades, originally released on the Zonk! label .This album is bleeding with that authentic dirty basement sound built around a solid set of catchy heavy weight tracks influenced by the holy trinity of Cream, Blue Cheer and Hendrix! The bible of underground psych rock, Acid Archives, says this about it: “This legendary private press is rated as one of the ultimate local basement hard rock blowouts by many connoisseurs. Released as early as 1970, the end result has some similarities to MC5s hallowed Kick out the Jams, but I find this a superior and more powerful album." Popular UK magazine thats majors in all things 60s and psychedelic, Shindig!, proclaims: “a masterpiece of zonked out, fuzz-drenched hard rock." Artist: BIRDS OF MAYA Title: Celebration Format: LP Label: Little Big Chief Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
|
"Though the game mighta changed round em, the three years since Ready to Howl aint diminished Birds of Maya one ounce (or do they measure in...grams?). You can tell right away on Celebration, cuz its just as stupefying to describe as every other moment theyve put down. Why is that? Seems so simple! But ya get near pronouncements like "Free or The Groundhogs as seen in the busted mirror mosaic of Japanese underground psych" and a lil balloon of acid anxiety busts in yer gut. Insufficient. This aint just about shred and dread; this is about sweat and spit and busted bottles. This is about volume--meaning both quantity AND decibels. It takes a lot for many of us to sit still for side-long live tracks, so I suggest you dethrone that ass and break some valuables when the evil busts start rollin out like smoke from Sleeps van; its only natural. And dont fear the "TV Eye" cover, neither, cuz it surely made me forget the last 67 beef-witted versions Id heard. Course, theres so much snarl all over this thing, Im surprised the mic aint slumped in the corner, nursing an ulcer, by the end.Â
Another fetid feather in Phillys cap. Dressed in hand-painted sleeves, itll make all the records you file it next to cooler via osmotic paint flakes." -

Artist: JOSEFUS Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Mainstream Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
| "2013 repress; 180 gram vinyl. Authors of two albums published in 1970, the Texas based Josefus are the quintessence of hard psych made in the USA -- a gritty sound featuring prominent guitar and a solid and agile rhythmic base. This second album by Josefus, released a year after their debut, confirms their place as one of the most interesting and underestimated bands of the era. Largely influenced by early Zeppelin and British blues, Josefus deftly brought late sixties hard rock into the 70s, anticipating sounds that would later become synonymous with bands like ZZ Top and giving birth to a genre that would eventually give way to heavy metal." - Mainstream. |

Artist: SCHULZE AND GUNTER SCHICKERT, KLAUS Title: The Schulze-Schickert Session Format: LP Label: Mirumir Country: Russian Federation Price: $28.00 |
|
"For the first time, from the vaults of electronic music guru, Klaus Schulze, comes The Schulze-Schickert Session, a rare and previously unreleased private session featuring echo-guitar pioneer Günter Schickert. Recorded on 26 September 1975 in Klaus Schulzes home studio in Hambuehren, Germany, Schulze can be heard playing an EMS Synthi A, as well as keyboards, and a Syntanorma, while Schickert plays a 12-string Framus with metal strings and also sings on a few tracks. Although Schickerts name is little-known outside of a very select circle of krautrock fans, he was a key member of the Berlin free jazz scene of the 1960s and a pioneer of the echo-guitar. Just prior to the recording of this informal session, Schickerts first LP, Samtvogel, was released on the seminal Brain label. On the two bonus tracks, found only on theCD version, Schickerts playing ebbs, as Schulze takes on the more dominant role." -Mirumir.

Artist: HAACK & MS. NELSON, BRUCE Title: The Way Out Record For Children Format: LP Label: Mississippi Country: USA Price: $16.00 |
|
"Recorded in 1968, a true psychedelic masterpiece for the kids. Ms. Nelson (a child educator) and Bruce Haack (an early electronic music pioneer) designed this record to open the minds and hearts of children to deeper levels of insight and culture. Not condescending in the least and with a childlike sense of wonder, Bruce and Ms. Nelson lay into some heavy songs about everything from Robots to Indian Mysticism to Motorcycle riding fantasies. Its all in here. The music is all generated by Bruces homemade electronic instruments which churn out proto hip hop beats and straight up avante garde moments left and right. The kids in Ms. Nelsons community chime in with their voices here and there and the record ends with a haunting existential twist thatll leave you screamin for more. A great record for children and adults of all ages. Old school tip on cover." - Mississippi.

Artist: HEROES OF HISTORY Title: Lightning and Thunder Format: LP Label: Monster Claw Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
| "I was pretty impressed right off the bat by the artwork and lo-fi promo material sent along with this. The kind of aesthetic and attention to detail usually reserved for high school notebook covers or Dungeons and Dragons character sheets. Then you notice that this was actually recorded at Used Kids by Mike Rep?! I thought that was odd, but after you listen to this you realize it does have whatever you want call the Columbus "vibe", which is just another way of saying this is music made by weirdos. Semi-inept garage-rocking with a heavy metal influence. The Gizmos if they wrote songs about swords and sorcery instead of muff diving and partying? Early Rep/Jay catalog if they were more concerned with horror movies and fantasy novels instead of Lou Reed? Midnight doing Penetrators covers? Only in Ohio, Ill say that for sure. Mid-tempo rockers with dum-dum riffs, an eccentric singer who actually pulls this shit off sounding great and just goofily enough to make you really like his style. Backing vox are wonderfully dumb as are most if not all of these tunes. Rep gets the most out of these guys, making it sound just cruddy enough, guitar is solid, drums have just the right trashy sound, bass holds it all steady. There are at least ten songs here I love out of fourteen, which are all listenable at the very least. "A Quarter Werewolf" is the hit, "Zombies Gots To Eat", "Witch" (not a cover), "Welcome to My Grave", "Wormhole", all winners. "Rock Assassins" is their tough guy statement, and Im a believer. Loner-outsider-whatever garage-punk rock, this thing is really likeable for obvious reasons. I dont think theyre trying really hard to be funny-dumb here, I think theyre just trying to kick ass and fucking succeeding at it, with maybe a few laughs along the way. Id buy this on vinyl in a second, as long as they include the lyric sheet and band photo (pictured), which are very entertaining in their own right. Another one of those bands you could mistake for a KBD-punk classic if you didnlt know they were modern. Recommended to the highest degree!" -Rich Kroneiss, TERMINAL BOREDOM (Review of the CDR version from earlier this year). |

"music for blown-out punk fiends that minds the gap between rotten psychedelia and acid dirt rock. originally released as a "private press" cassette in an edition of six copies." - Nostilevo.
"Every year to commemorate the Carnaval of Santiago, my Cuban buddy Fortunado constructs this enormous structureve hollowed out flan in his back yard n then invites bands what to come play inside. Is am always surprised the thing never gets ate down (at the end theys douse it w/brandy, then set it ablaze) but thats another story. So this time someones called K-9 Sniffies & Roach Clip was the featured acts. Now Is have to come clean n say I didnt see neither ofem. Was way in the thickve of judgin a serious cachete taco eatin contest. And them Cristals was goin down like water too. Plus anytime I gets close to that flan hut I just feel all custardy. No thanks! Word was theys was both top notch. Always a plus. Anyhow, at some point in the evenin I seen Fortunados wife, Yanela, fannin herself w/this Roach Clip record. She looked pretty relaxed & maybe not a little too familiar w/the pitcherve sangria plopped down right in frontve her. She spied me makin my way, stood, smiled & breathed a sigh of relief. "Ah, senor Woodbean, eh, the band, they want for you to have they record. So was for me to keep. My favor, you know? As music.......I am not so sure, but for, eh, ventilador, is most useful. Here", she thrust the record into my hand, "now is no more for me to look after. And I must go, wait for you has made me to starve. Lead me to the sesos! I can smell them frying. Or perhaps that is you, eh, Woodbutt"? With that she threw her head back n laughed. It sounded like a hyena bein impaled on a pike. Thank heavens she werent much ever in a good mood. Them jolliesd curdle milk. Despite Yanelas opinion, as music goes, this Roach Clip ep is a doozy. And w/a title like Al Pastor, is most prescient too. Its a rollickin ride through a panaceave frizzled audio crackle. Not unlike the Meat Puppets, 15 minutes after sheddin theys skin of the eponymous 1st lp but still burnt from that peyote scorch. Or maybe the Godz, lost somewhere in them 10 matrix numbers between Contact High & Godz 2, sortin it out through a Dubonnet hookah. Either way you bake it what yous got here is sounds as crisp as a chicharron gordita. So let your ears inhale." - Siltblog. Second pressing in new sleeves (pictured).

Artist: GRIM TOWER Title: Anarchic Breezes Format: LP Label: Outer Battery Country: USA Price: $20.00 |
| "Grim Tower is the collaborative project of Stephen McBean (vocals/guitar/synths) and Imaad Wasif (vocals/guitar). The album, called Anarchic Breezes, was written around the central idea of a new acoustic death folk, yet could be heard as equal parts Harry Smith and Harry Pussy. Both songwriters, Canadians now based in Los Angeles, come together on Anarchic Breezes to explore a mutual interest in the darker traditions of song and detuning found in the American primitive archives. The album features the ancillary rhythm section of Rob Barbato (bass) and Dan Allaire (drums), also L.A. musicians with roots deep in the modern psych movement. Anarchic Breezes was recorded by S. McBean at his home studio, with additional recording by Rob Campanella at the Jonestown Studios. It contains nine originals and one cover, the obscure Leaving My Old Life Behind by Jonathan Halper as featured in Kenneth Angers Puce Moment. It was mixed by Mark Nevers (Will Oldham, Silver Jews, Calexico, Vic Chesnutt) at Beech House Studios in Nashville. The two voices on this album serve as mediums to a yet unheard music. Let the free ride the breeze." |

Artist: PURLING HISS Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Permanent Country: USA Price: $20.00 |
| "Purling Hiss is one of Phillys Best! Purling Hiss is the side-project of Holy Mountain recording artists, Birds of Maya, guitarist Mike Pollize. Birds of Maya are a full-on psychedelic rock band from Philly. Apparently, Birds just arent full-on enough to satisfy Pollizes far-out tendencies. On his debut solo record, Pollize plays bass, drums, and guitar, relentlessly, as if hes playing to save his life. This recording is so intense that the pressing plant told us theyd risk breaking their equipment if they cut the lacquers with the original master. We sent em a new master and it sounds great! For Fans Of: Birds of Maya, Earthless, Loop, High Rise, Les Rallizes Denudes, and Lo-Fi Blown-Out Psych." - Permanent. |

Artist: CHEN, SHINKI Title: Shinki Chen & Friends Format: LP Label: Phoenix Country: USA Price: $23.00 |
|
"Gatefold LP version. Shinki Chen was one of the leading figures of the Japanese psychedelic rock scene in the early 70s, seen as a Jimi Hendrix-type figure in Japan at the time. This record, released in 1971 was some of his last recorded material (he also recorded with the band Powerhouse and Foodbrain) in addition to the different band line-up known as Speed, Glue & Shinki and their debut Eve released the same year. While the bands style is often compared to its Krautrock cousins, it lacks the dreamy directionlessness that a lot of them have as well as the bore factor of the lighter-weight progressive rock acts. Shinki Chen & Friends might lack Joey Smiths amphetamine-fuelled drumming, but it is generally bluesier with lots of strange keyboard effects, fuzzy bass lines and a relatively weeping guitar sound. Digitally remastered on 180 gram vinyl." - Phoenix.

Artist: FORMERLY FAT HARRY Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Prog Temple Country: UK Price: $23.00 |
| "180 gram LP version. Led by Bruce Barthol (bassist with San Francisco psych heroes Country Joe & The Fish), this oddly-named quartet coalesced in London in 1969 and soon gained admirers for their laid-back country-influenced sound. They became a fixture in the citys underground clubs and at free festivals, but their sole album appeared in late 1971, by which time their moment had passed. It makes its long-awaited return here, complete with background notes." - Prog Temple. |

Artist: ANTIMATION Title: Mono-Types Format: LP Label: Rerun Country: USA Price: $25.00 |
| "An obscure rarity from St. Louis! Decent to really good punky pop rock and sorta Paisley Underground-ish sounds. The band was led by Tony from the Camaros who were one of the first-wave Punk bands from the area. They had Mike Yaffe who was between his stints in Max Load and Bob Leach who was in Trained Animal (Test Patterns comp) and the infamous MRR-baiting White Pride. The drummer is Mike Doskicil, who was also in White Pride and the front man for sludge-core legends Drunks With Guns. Of course, this doesnt sound like any of those bands. The record was never issued in a cover. A few may have been sold in blank jackets, but most (probably all) without any jacket at all. 500 copies were pressed, but according to the band, as many as a couple hundred were tossed out or damaged in storage. They made an 8 1/2" x 14" piece of art with titles/info which was printed on red construction paper. The record was never distributed outside the St. Louis area, and less than 100 were sold when the band was active. Most probably came with the art work but many of those probably never survived the trip home after a gig. Some copies were later sold at local reunion gigs and other events, but the record is still virtually unknown outside of St. Louis. Almost every other copy of the art work was used for the blank backside for set lists, scratch paper or even lost in moves or just tossed out. We estimate that only 100-150 copies at most actually received the art, including any copies sold in recent years. We first learned about the record in 2000, and of the 10-12 copies weve seen in used bins or private collections since, weve only encountered a couple with the original art. We obtained the last remaining copies of the original, unplayed vinyl from the band. Weve housed them in a blank white jacket and made high quality (and now larger 11" x 17") reprints of the original artwork." -Rerun. |

Artist: PEER PRESSURE Title: Sounds (A.K.A. Music) Format: Double 7" Label: Rerun Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
|
"It was just a couple of guys from Connecticut, not a "proper" band in any sense of the word. One had great chops and songs while the other had lyrics and an endless supply of brilliant ideas. Even if they were never a functioning live band, the two recorded some of the most amazing homemade Punk Rock between 1979-1980.
A four song 7"EP was released on Mothers Day in 1980 (in celebration of "Thats Why They Call Em Moms") on their own Resistance Records. They intended the EP to look like something from the generic food/household products line. It was issued with appropriately designed labels and no picture sleeve. The band imploded soon after its release. With no live gigs in peoples minds, no real distribution and no cover screaming PUNK ROCK; the record and band quickly faded into obscurity.
The obvious hit of the EP ("Sound Of The 80s") was included on a Killed By Death bootleg compilation in the mid 90s, but it wasnt until a medal-worthy search in 1999 by world champion record hound Ryan Richardson that the band and their story was discovered. That contact also resulted in Ryan issuing the unreleased Eve of Destruction EP as a limited 7" titled 1979/1980.
This deluxe reissue includes remastered versions of both the Sounds of the 80s EP and the 1979/1980 EP. The vinyl is packaged in a folder style pocket cover and comes with a 5"x7" postcard and a 7"x14" insert including liner notes and other Peer Pressure evidence." -Rerun.

Artist: MAKOTOS MAINLINER, KAWABATA Title: Revelation Space Format: LP Label: Riot Season Country: UK Price: $28.00 |
| "Pressed on 140 gram virgin vinyl in heavy-duty printed spined card sleeve. One of the most celebrated Japanese underground bands have returned. It may have taken over 12 years, but Kawabata Makoto, guitar guru and head honcho in Acid Mothers Temple, has finally decided to get his celebrated "psychedelic solid free attack group" back together. Joining original Mainliner members Kawabata Makoto (motorpsycho guitar) and Koji Shimura (drums) is new recruit Kawabe Taigen (bass/vocals) and the trio still kick up one hell of a sonic racket. Confusion surrounds the exact details of the recording, but they seem to date from December 2011, and from Kawabatas mountain-top temple studio-cum-home. The man himself, as always, is shying away from sharing too many of the magick details about the Mainliner rebirth. And the stark, minimal black-with-gold sleeve keeps the mystery intact, apart from the grainy band photo on the rear. All said, Revelation Space is a comeback statement of intent. And its firmly in the same in-the-red/raw camp as the original trios classic Mellow Out. From the initial speaker-shaking feedback burst of opener "Revelation Space," right through to the closing 20-minute epic "New Sun" (which showcases Taigens otherworldly howl perfectly) there is no let-up in the brutal delivery. This will no doubt delight those Mainliner diehards who never thought theyd see the day again, and all those with a love of guitar howls and punishing feedback levels, but always underpinned by some righteous grooves." - Riot Season. |

Artist: DISSIPATED FACE WITH DANIEL CARTER Title: Live at CBGB 1986 Format: 7" Label: Roaratorio Country: Roaratorio Price: $6.00 |
| "Not since the early days of MC5 at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, circa 1968, had there been such an organic melding of sheer metal-esque maelstrom and free jazz. These archival recordings from the legendary punk club CBGB capture a moment in time when open-minded musicians from the downtown scene were exploring the possibility of bringing Lou Reeds feedback-infested Metal Machine Music together with Albert Aylers Love Cry. Dissipated Face guitarist Kurt Hologram Ralske and special guest saxophonist Daniel Carter provided that implausible link between punk rock and avant garde jazz on these 1986 live recordings. Fueled by the throbbing rhythms of Steve X Dream Popkin and Ben Face Munves, who alternated on bass and drums, Ralskes twisted, thrashing power chords and shrieking licks blend with Carters cathartic alto sax wailing to make the perfect union of disparate worlds. Ralske would go on to attain a certain level of indie rock fame with Ultra Vivid Scene and subsequently make an impact as a London-based producer-conceptualist-avant-popmeister and visual artist. Carter would become one of the most ubiquitous figures on New Yorks free jazz scene, recording with William Parker, David S. Ware, Billy Bang, Alan Silva and Matthew Shipp and the cooperative bands Test and Other Dimensions in Music. But for this one moment back in 1986, their paths crossed with band mates Popkin and Munves, and the results were frighteningly intense. - Bill Milkowski. Cover artwork by Raymond Pettibon. |

Artist: MESSAGES Title: Mirage Format: LP Label: Root Strata Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "Primordial moves and stone cold drones from this New York duo of Taketo Shimada and Tres Warren (Sacred Bones Records). Save for a small long-gone edition of CD-Rs, Mirage is the third full-length release by Messages, recorded in 2008 before their first two albums and has remained unreleased until now. This record documents the duos earliest long-form drone explorations and intonations, most of which were recorded during long sessions in Tres basement bunker in the East Village. Mixing orbits of homemade acoustic instruments, electric drones and percussion, Mirage is a humid transmission sent straight from the womb." - Root Strata. |

Artist: LES TEMPS HEUREUX Title: En Ces Jours Format: LP Label: Shadoks Country: Germany Price: $44.00 |
|
"Numbered edition of 450 copies, heavy sleeve with textured & engraved artwork, 180 gram pressing. "Les Temps Heureux (The Happy Times) made only a tiny demo pressing in 1972, France, under the title En Ces Jours (In Those Days). Acid folk with poetry lyrics, loner vibes, psychedelic guitars, well-crafted songs, six of them in English, two in French. Four guys hanging out night after night to create their first album in a basement studio following their one and only ambition. This album is very special and became instantly one of the real musical surprises for us. It beats most UK albums of the same style. They must have had really happy times in those days, very creative times full of aspiration." -Shadoks.

Artist: MENCHE, DANIEL Title: Vilke Format: Double LP Label: Sige Country: USA Price: $29.00 |
| "For over 25 years, northwest native Daniel Menche has been involved with innovative methods of composition and sound experimentation. His formative work being rooted in noise has since developed into highly idiosyncratic and sophisticated forms, while remaining integrated with the genres emotionally visceral core. Vilké is another step forward in this ongoing evolution, and a formidable experience for the listener. Animality is a recurrent theme in Menches work, displayed prominently within four long form compositions that comprise the album. An avid and voracious hiker, Menche found great inspiration in the beautiful lament of howling wolves during his overnight expeditions; and ultimately chose these sounds as the core sonic elements for Vilké. By layering and distending wolves voices, a choir of howls was constructed -- a massive sound wall colliding with layers of poly-rhythmic drums, abstracted guitar, and piano. Fluctuating from somber ambiance to a seemingly endless cascade of noise, the songs lure the listener into a darkened forest of howling serenades, propulsive rhythms, deconstructed instrumentation, and mother natures primal cacophony." - Sige. |

Artist: HANSSON, BO Title: Sagan Om Ringen Format: CD Label: Silence Country: Sweden Price: $16.00 |
| "2013 repress. Reissue of what was the first ever release on Silence, initially issued in 1970. This was also the first Bo Hansson album, the Swedish legend known to be one of the earliest to place "space music". Produced as a tribute to the Tolkien trilogy, this is stunning instrumental psychedelic music, with plush atmospherics -- Dont Fear The Hobbit! This version is the original Swedish titled version, with one bonus track ("Tidiga skisser Från Midgård"); there is also an English-titled version with different bonus tracks. This is a digitally remastered issue from 2001. Performed by: Bo Hansson (Organs, guitar, moog, bass), Rune Carlsson (drums, congas), Gunnar Bergsten (saxophone), Sten Bergman (flute). "Lord of the Rings was released late in the fall of 1970 and became an immediate success. Bo himself was in the midst of a very creative period, new melodies were constantly popping up in his head, so when Lord of the Rings finally got released in other countries there were already three more tracks added compared to the first Swedish issue. In the encyclopedia Guide to Progressive Rock, Bo Hansson is mentioned with reverence and respect. He is the first to play space music, he is a precursor to the French prog-celebrities Gong and English Henry Cow, and contemporary style-formers as Genesis and Yes. Bo Hansson is an innovator in the most noble sense of the word."" -Silence. |

Artist: HARVESTER Title: Hemåt Format: CD Label: Silence Country: Sweden Price: $15.00 |
| 2013 repress."2001 CD reissue of this psychedelic underground masterpiece from 1970, with a 12-page booklet, including English liner notes and photos. Includes one bonus track not found on the original LP. Recorded 1968-69, digitally remastered in 2001. The lone album by this post-International Harvester group, originally issued in 1970, once again led by the academic tape-composer turned radical folkie psychedelicist Bo Anders Persson. Accompanied by an able body of co-conspirators including Thomas Gartz (drummer/glue of the Mecki Mark Men, whose LPs on the Limelight label are not to be missed), Torbjörn Abelli, and lets not forget Ulla on small cymbals. Thunder-plod of magnificent tidal proportions, recalling the burnt splendor of the Träd Gräs och Stenar Live Gardet 1970 set - TGOS in fact were nothing more than a stripped down quartet version of Harvester!" - Silence. |

Artist: KEBNEKAJSE Title: Resa Mot Okänt Mål Format: CD Label: Silence Country: Sweden Price: $16.00 |
| "2013 repress. First ever reissue of the first three Kebnekajse albums on Silence. This debut album (the title translates to (Journey to Destination Unknown) was originally issued in 1971. Liner notes for these three are in Swedish only, but English translations can be found on http://www.silence.se/nyheter/english.htm. Kebnekajse were a loud and hard Swedish rock band. References abound from Cream, Mountain, November and even Jimi Hendrix in a perfect amalgam of British hard rock and psychedelia from the American west coast enhanced by cryptic Swedish lyrics. There is something unmistakably Swedish in Kenny Håkanssons way of handling his guitar -- something unspecified, a tone, a Nordic mood. Kebnekajse did not play electric blues, or have its roots in Afro-American music but was rather torn up and then replanted into the Swedish soil --just to see if it could grow and flourish. Their name is taken from Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden." -Silence. |

Artist: FLYNT, HENRY Title: Graduation Format: Double LP Label: Superior Viaduct Country: USA Price: $25.00 |
|
"HENRY FLYNT took a high-brow approach to so-called low-brow music. Combining sounds from his native North Carolina with an avant-garde sensibility honed in New York Citys loft scene in the 1960s, Flynt created what he describes as "new American ethnic music." As a student of Hindustani singer Pandit Pran Nath alongside La Monte Young and Terry Riley, an associate of the Fluxus movement, and even a live collaborator with the Velvet Underground, Flynt was a part of one of the 20th centurys richest art and music milieus. Graduation, recorded between 1975 and 1979, was meant to be the debut of his avant-garde hillbilly music. The albums title track is a slow, twisted ballad that unfolds like a funeral dream over dirge-like country riffs. "Celestial Power," the albums 20-minute closing track, is an entrancing minimalist composition performed strictly with oscillating vibrato guitar. As Flynt explains, "I aspire to a beauty which is ecstatic and perpetual, while at the same time being concretely human and emotionally profound." Shelved upon its completion in 1980, Graduation was not released until after the turn of the century. In 2013, it still sounds years ahead of its time. Includes digital download card." -Superior Viaduct.

Artist: KOLOVOS, PETER Title: Black Colors Format: Triple LP Box Label: Thin Wrist Country: USA Price: $38.00 |
|
"Over more than a decade Peter Kolovos has created an incredibly physical and dynamic musical language using the electric guitar. He plays music that unpredictably flows from electrified fragments of sound which fold and expand in dense layers and massive tones that surge and collapse in rapid succession. His approach has been called “massively a-formal” and his control of timing and texture “masterful.” Rather than set harmonic or rhythmic structures, he draws form from open sequences of sound events merged and propelled by a distinct internal logic. In his music Kolovos attempts to erase the line between intent and impulse and to create sounds that are immediate and unrepeatable.
Black Colors is the fullest realization of Kolovoss music to date. Over six sides of vinyl the album presents a vast world of intricate sound—at times dense and teeming with saturated bursts and drones and at others sparse with minute ticks and quiet tones that reverberate in open space. Without a preset listening sequence, the album is intended to be a shifting, prismatic work—with sides that can be arranged in hundreds of different sequences, each yielding a distinct sound experience.
The music on Black Colors is coupled with Zoe Croshers artwork. Eight photographs from her "L.A. Black Like" series present views from the black spaces and shadows of Los Angeles where light and color only pierce the darkness in filtered and obscured glimpses of the outside world. Beyond being created in the same time and place, Croshers images and Kolovoss music share a deeper consonance.
Deluxe Packaging: 3 x 180 gram high-quality vinyl pressed at Pallas Germany. Mastered at 45 RPM for volume, dynamics, and clarity by Rashad Becker at D&M Berlin. Full-color, heavy tip-on slipcase with three full-color sleeves. Digital download included." - Thin Wrist.

Artist: SLUG ACID FREAKS Title: Somewhere Between The Cradle and the Lonely Grave Format: CDR Label: Threshold Tapes Country: UK Price: $11.00 |
|
"Nearly a quarter of a century after they broke up, impossibly obscure UK DIY/minimal wave outfit Slug Acid Freaks have released their first “official” album through the Threshold Tapes label. Formed in 1981 in Andover, Hampshire, by Ken Pearce and Ed Pupplet, and ably assisted by regular guest Andy Broome, the band recorded 5 albums worth of material before their demise in 1986, none of which was ever made available beyond the bands immediate circle of friends. Somewhere Between the Cradle and the Lonely Grave collects over an hour of music from the bands most prolific period, 1984-85.
Without being overly deterministic, its possible to regard Slug Acid Freaks, partly, at least, as a product of their environment. In the 1950s and 60s, Andover, an ancient market town, had been designated one of Londons official overspills. The capitals allure was keenly felt, but Andovers Slug population retained a strong enough sense of hometown identity that the metropolitan influence was always recycled with a measure of “provincial” strangeness.
If even the most ardent archaeologist of DIY is unlikely ever to have heard of the Slugs, they were nonetheless active during the late heyday of the UKs home taping underground. Employing necessarily minimal means - borrowed Casios, sequencer, basic drum machine (or the rhythm programme of a home organ?) - the band recorded at Kens house on his Dads music centre and a Wien portable tape recorder. While early Human League and Devo are cited as an influence, the Slugs were also contemporaries of many of the 2nd and 3rd wave electronic/industrial bands who took up the baton offered by pioneers like Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. Despite the relative poverty of its means, Slug music is generally more carefully crafted and song-based than that of its DIY or industrial peers, never lapsing into pointless juvenilia, on the one hand, or metal dunce cliché on the other.
Somewhere Between the Cradle and the Lonely Grave has been remastered from the original tapes by Andy Broome and is released in a still barely available edition of 33 copies. Fans of Transparent Illusion, early Portion Control, John Bender, Colin Potter, Legendary Pink Dots, Instant Automatons etc., should act now to avoid disappointment!
Slug Acid Freaks - seriously, the best thing to come out of Andover since The Troggs and Twinings tea." - Threshold Tapes.

Artist: BROTHER JT Title: The Svelteness of Boogietude Format: CD Label: Thrill Jockey Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
| "The Svelteness of Boogietude is Brother JTs debut on Thrill Jockey and Bryon Coley (from whom he aquired the Brother JT moniker) called it his most oustanding effort yet. The album is a typical of JTs output in certain ways -- rockers mixed with ballads, all of them crafted with causal elegance -- but there are new elements here as well. In particular, theres an attention to the legacy of later-period T. Rex, which results in tunes that kick total ass. Again Byron Coley, having seen Bolan play during his Zinc Alloy/Zip Gun Boogie period, went so far as to claim that JTs approach to this stuff equals that of the master -- huge riff-based anthems that balance glam dynamics with mystical history on the head of a pin." -Thrill Jockey. |

Artist: STYGIAN STRIDE Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Thrill Jockey Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
| "Stygian Stride is Jimy SeiTang, a New York based musician in the No Neck Blues Band axis who, as a member of Psychic Ills and most currently with Rhyton, was brought up in the midst of the groundswell of avant-garde and improvised psychedlic music in New York City over the past decade. On this, his debut solo release, SeiTang has moved away from rock music completely, instead turning his attention to gauzy electronic music reminiscent of Gas and the classic era of Mille Plateaux and Chain Reaction, with nods to Manuel Göttsching and Tangerine Dream." - Thrill Jockey. |

Artist: BULLEN, NICHOLAS Title: Component Fixations Format: LP Label: Type Country: UK Price: $21.00 |
| "To this day, Nicholas Bullen is best-known as a founding member of arguably grindcores most important act: Napalm Death. Although he decided to call it a day before the band slipped into the mainstream circuit, his sonic fingerprints were all over their influential debut Scum, and hes been breaking boundaries ever since. A key figure in Birminghams experimental scene, Bullen was also a founding member of Scorn and has been involved in a variety of projects since. Over 30 years later we arrive to Component Fixations, an album that Bullen has been contemplating, working, and reworking for some time. It is, after all, his solo debut proper, and as such is a work that absolutely represents him as an artist both visually and aurally. Taking influence from the early electronic artists of the 1960s, Bullen has fused this passion with his own musically explorative past, resulting in an album of beguiling tape-manipulations, drones and noise. Component Fixations is far more than a simple exercise in academic sound, and Bullen has injected his long-form pieces with a rare mortal sense of corruption and failure. Every single sound on the album was taken from field recordings captured in the confines of Bullens house and garden, and this only serves to confirm the unshakable humanity of the record. Component Fixations might be a long way from Scum, but dig deep and youll find the same curious mind, desperate to pull apart sounds and give them a brand-new meaning. Extreme doesnt have to mean loud, after all. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin." - Type. |

"Volume 1 features the first half of Sun Ra and his Arkestras live performance at the Fondation Maeght in France in 1970. Opening with Enlightment, sung by Sun Ra and June Tyson, and followed by The Star Gazers, a keyboard piece that introduces Shadow World, characterized by Marshall Allens chilling sax solo. However, the apex is reached by The Cosmic Explorer, a 20 min multiple keyboards freakout. These inimitable moments captured on this recording, confirm the greatness of this ensemble." -Universe. |

Artist: BOOK OF AM, THE Title: The Book of AM Parts III & IV Format: Double LP Label: Wah Wah Country: Spain Price: $48.00 |
| "Juan Arkotxa, Leslie McKenzie, and Carmeta Mansilla have joined forces with Will Z (of Cosmic Trip Machine fame) to finish the great project that was The Book of Am. As you may know, a few years ago Wah Wah released the book including the only LP that was originally released back in the seventies (part I) plus adding an extra LP (part II) which had been recorded in the same era while the book was being created, but the book itself hadnt been previously released. Now, thanks to the help of Will Z, original Can Am des Puig residents Leslie and Juan, plus original contributor Carmeta have joined forces again to finish what was left unfinished. The main body of parts III and IV is formed by those songs written back in 1970s Ibiza and Mallorca that never reached the recording stage. Will Z has also written part of the music, and has helped with all arrangements having in mind the sound of the original sessions and respecting the musical feel and spirit of the original Book Of Am recordings. It sounds amazing and will not disappoint fans of parts I and II. Lovers of the previous Book of Am know what to expect and will not be disappointed! Comes in a gatefold sleeve with cloth-like stamped spine that includes the lyrics to the songs and some photos and reproductions of original engravings by Leslie and Juan." -Wah Wah. |
