Title: lmof
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Warm swathes of keyboard and guitar. Household electronics. Patch chords yanked from live amps. Room event. Silences. It’s all pulled off with the casual inevitability of a dull joke, that is to say, Vitrine is nothing but proud to announce the label-debut of Japanese sound artist 010001111000. lmof leapfrogs back in time past the ‘00s and ‘90s to a lily pad of cracked sound shared by Dome, Richard H. Kirk’s Disposable Half Truths cs, and the more far-flung reaches of the Ylem canon. Perhaps one can hear Semool entirely separated from its umbilical chord of Black Sabbath and acid rock, left to find its way amidst the burn of cheap box amps and answering machines. There’s no orthodoxy to the sound, as it touches upon the most adventurous of post-punk and abstract Industrial, steering clear of the tropes and traps of genre. EVPs for a secular transcript. Volume variations and interference provide vibrant color to both alienation and unbridled creativity. Pastels on line paper. Computations which don’t add up. 010001111000 closes the circle begun by Safe House on VT03, but then erases it from the page. An exciting new voice in uncommon sound. A mind forever voyaging to the social debris beyond climate.  “More sound from Vitrine.” Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Artist: A4
Title: focus
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine is honored to present focus, a much-needed retrospective of source tapes, raw material and test recordings from A4, the working title of interdisciplinary visionary and mail art linchpin Eric Blevins. The click of cartridge music. The atmospherics of space from room to room. Obnoxious voices. What at first registers as sensory drift builds to accumulative significance. Blevins helped pioneer the inclusive innovations of the mail art era both via collaborative work and later through his own imprint, the essential suitcase recordings. A dedication to a hands on method of manipulation via tape and printmaking during the forms many fallow periods across the past twenty years positions his body of work, in 2016, as all the more revelatory. Vocal loops begin as satire, stammer towards sensual overload and cycle back to the feint of communication. “A victim of automation. Were all getting used to letting the computers do our answering for -“ Tape cut. Blevins shares an infectious horizontal dissonance with Joke Lanz and Rudolf Eb.ers Psychic Rally transmissions, as well as the magnetic reconfiguration of frequent collaborators TAC and Yeast Culture. focus draws on tapes stretching back to the eighties, blending obsessive loops, abstracted environmental recordings and absurd collusions of acoustic guitar, keyboard and malfunction. All Fours on Vitrine. Vitrine on All Fours. Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Artist: ARTBREAKHOTEL
Title: Drag
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
“Evacuees from the Null-Commune. Eviction passport. Vitrine is thrilled to showcase two long-form decompositions from Japanese sound artist and musician, Nobuo Yamada, otherwise known as ARTBREAKHOTEL. Drag, the first full-length recording from the project in two years, details further expeditions into mechanical redundancy. Pierced and coiled metal is collaged onto the rote mewing of a crowd, unvariegated feedback and the whirl of a turbine. Noise remains a refusal of aesthetics and expediency. A stripped hex head cap screw and copper filaments. The lack of function hidden in tools. Drag falls somewhere boldly outside both the cliches of improvisation and the bland trappings of noise as genre. The sound stares at itself in self-obsession. Yamada has cut his teeth as a collaborator besides such luminaries as Richard Ramirez, Toshiji Mikawa, Richard Rupenus and Hideaki Shimada. Yamada belongs in such company. Scraped guitar strings spiral back into a gutter of no value. The sounds are good, but thats not the point. The A side features source material from TNB, wryly repurposing the work of a project known for doing just that. Climaxes subsume themselves to anti-climax. The handmade account and the pleasure of nothing at all. Each copy of Drag comes with a full-color, pro-printed postcard courtesy the artist. Sold out at source.” - Vitrine.

Artist: BENTLEY, MEL
Title: Red Green Blue
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Algorithmic language detritus. Tape devolution. Queasy string work and pescatarian poetry. Vitrine closes out its Fall batch with the first audio publication from Philadelphia-based writer and artist Mel Bentley. This follows such strong showings as 2013’s & parts, released as a chapbook through Damask Press. Red Green Blue collects a wide berth of live performances and stray discomfort. Bentley’s writing evokes Black Tarantula-era Kathy Acker bisected by Ron Silliman and the panoply of Nathaniel Mackay. Aggregate Internet waste and epistolary diversion. Red Green Blue’s melange of text, field recordings, free improv intersections and tape manipulation harkens back to the openness of cassette magazines such as Underwhich Audiographics or Edition S Press. The Dundee Telegrams by the Paxton Group and Paula Claire is a somewhat probable touchstone, though there is a palpable vitality to these sonic extensions unfettered by reference or deference. Recitation ranges from the languid to the deadpan to a heated stumble of apprehension. There’s a freeness to these live recordings, as Bentley presents a variety of perspectives to approach the writing. The latent air within the performance space, the shuffle and cough of the audience and a torrent of rain fall on Baltimore Avenue are all given their opportunity alongside the character of Bentley’s formidable poetry. “Why can’t I dig my way out of a personality.” Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Artist: BLACKHUMOUR
Title: capitulation
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"If Steve McCafferys 78 cassette of sound poetry and reel to reel deconstructions was dubbed Research on the Mouth, perhaps an alternate title for capitulation, blackhumours latest release, could be Pornography of the Mouth. The source materials puritanism betrays both a libertinage of intent and depth of connotation latent in Fraser Halls illustrious and long-standing solo project.  Since the early 80s, blackhumour has been stubbornly dedicated to an investigation of the cracks which exist in common speech practice and the vacancy of the signifier. Vocal event is mined for stochastic determinism and glottal smut. Sapir-Whorf collides into Krafft-Ebing. While affinities exist, it would be difficult to categorize this material as sound poetry, despite a focus on voice, breath and the subtle diversion of linguistic intent. What is it. Repetition and magnification direct the incremental units of a sound which manages to focus sonic density to a concrete minimalism. Some comparison can be made to Halls contemporaries Anne Gillis, the Haters or Kapotte Muziek, but blackhumour has always generated its own gravitational pull. Vitrine is honored to participate in some small fashion in the continued lineage of a true mail-art great. Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Artist: BOLUS, A.
Title: Sex Group
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
“Its with great pleasure that Vitrine announces its next release, a platter of scatology and whirl courtesy Andy Bolus. For over twenty years, Bolus has been releasing tape and junk decollage, both solo as Evil Moisture, and in collaboration, either with Mark Durgan as Olympic Shitman, or with acts as distinct as the Hanatarash, Smell & Quim and Macronympha. On Tropical Landslide Drainage, Bolus degrades field recordings and sabotaged rhythm with a swelter of cassette-based Kintsugi. Bolus follows up an impressive string of Evil Moisture releases on his own School of Meat Cutting imprint with forty minutes of minced sound which is both unremittingly hermetic and hysterically depersonalizing. A confusing melange of sampled screams and homespun electronics give way to bricolage and physical action. The intimation of voice is buried underneath flutter and the crackle of wind. Limited to 100 copies.” - Vitrine.

Artist: C.R. ODETTE
Title: s/t
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"“The guy always hobbled around Girard Ave. with a hoodie half pulled on over a wifebeater. His family lived down the street from us. We would sometimes give him cheap bodega food on paper plates - they didnt allow him inside the shop because he was too fucked up.” Vitrine is proud to announce the first solo release from tape-noise stalwart Samantha Flowers. Inane conversation segues from isolate flutter to stoop obsolescence, all swaddled in a bored headache of masked vocals and malfunction. Signal interference bleeds into positional confusion and numbskull amp burble, while still retaining an adroit sense of humor. Over the past few years, Flowers has racked up an impressive resume during residencies in Philadelphia and Detroit, with turns in various projects, including out-of-bounds rhythm box unit Growth Program alongside Chris Durham. C . R . Odette both refines the confounding aesthetic heard in Flowers crud-improv duo, Creode, while also allowing for perpendicular forays into AQM-style shortwave collapse, Quick Stab-fried pop debris and deep Kenzo field recordings. Room temperature Pepsi. A flat Coors left out on the living room table. “Its fucking bear country.” Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Artist: CHURCH SHUTTLE
Title: Aura Deterrent
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine is proud to announce Aura Deterrent, further record of psychic boredom on the lowest rung of the food chain courtesy Detroits Church Shuttle. Mic drops, feedback, tape marginalia and rhythm box as cousin to mundane dread. The bare minimum of song and notion confuse field recordings and an overloaded surge protector. Church Shuttles Chris Durham has documented the dullness of continuous living across projects such as Growth Program, the Bibs, Ivory & Gauze and Quilt Boy while co-running All Gone Records and Tapes. Voice binds empty air by way of sleep paralysis. Call it motivational speaking. Gullies of cellphone interference sputter from a shot amp. Aura Deterrent follows a triathlon of small-run cassettes released on labels such as Alien Passengers, Fag Tapes and Nostilevo. Durham charts daily doldrums and migraines through misdirection of event and disregard. The audial tangle of these four tracks betray a sober attention to deadpan journalism and private testimony. The Industrial and post-Fluxus driftwood of Rod Summers and Storm Bugs crash into bedroom retardation and an instrument-less prog which is as informed by Dennis Duck as it is Henry Cow. Dull junk malfunctions or maybe just stops. Everything comes together. No ten dollar minimum at this party store. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Artist: COPLEY MEDAL
Title: Marble Cage
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
“Vitrine is proud to welcome Copley Medal to its 2015 roster with Marble Cage, the latest release from New York-based artist Ryan Martin. Diffuse electronics cross-pollinate with delayed circumlocution across two side-long tracks which take Martin deeper into a collapsed sun of sound. Marble Cage consolidates the sonic approach heard on previous releases such as the Mauve Decade ( Ascetic House ) and Sabbath (Robert & Leopold), combining the rough hewn panic of Mail Art-era power electronics with a somber organizational determination. And while Martin retains a studied patience throughout, the clustered haze of electronics firmly locates Copley Medal in the same psychedelic mire as Hole in the Heart-era Ramleh. An airtight garage of displaced rhythm and otherwise unspoken environment. Mastered by Kris Lapke. Limited to 100 copies.” - Vitrine.

Artist: CORNFORD, STEPHEN
Title: Empty Reels
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine rounds out its summer batch with a new cassette from British sound artist and sculptor Stephen Cornford. Empty Reels consists of just that, four investigations of empty reels spinning on a Grundig TK5 machine. The sound is not processed and is instead allowed to develop along its own path for forty minutes. The listener becomes immersed in the sound, which retains a sober anchor as Cornford steers clear of drone. Allowance for registry, intact. The four studies heard on Empty Reels establish a modest furniture theater reminiscent of such premier artists as Andrew Chalk or Massimo Toniutti. A simple process with simple rewards. Cornford reveals an objects integrity through patience and clarity of intent. Over the past five or six years, Stephen has been developing an impressive body of recorded work to compliment his reputation as an installation artist and live improviser. In addition to his own output, Cornford is responsible for co-running Consumer Waste, a label focusing on electroacoustic experimentation and uncommon sound. Vitrine is privileged to release the work of one of the most exciting and lucid of contemporary sound artists. Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Artist: DARKSMITH
Title: Everyone Is Welcome In My Room
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Metaphors contain cracks through which significance slips out. Occurrence without explanation, but with clear purpose and senseless resolve. Vitrine is beside itself with pride to announce the latest release by California tape artist Darksmith. Everyone Is Welcome In My Room sidesteps the trendiness, slickness and hothouse social backslapping which is de rigueur in the contemporary experimental underground. Tom Darksmith follows up an array of CDrs, including an impressive collaboration with Dylan Nyoukis on Chocolate Monk, with thirty minutes of consummate tape music - abstract in vision and deliberate in intent. Each side progresses with the illusion of motionlessness, allowing for wide chasms of broken sound to crackle alongside the hull of an enormous din. Darksmith belongs to a small handful of artists who cannot be tethered to a geographic aesthetic or a timely moment in sound. Instead, he draws from a deep reservoir of rusted electronics, detuned strings and sterling tape music to craft work which is both incredibly contemporary and of its own sounding. If anything, he becomes increasingly intriguing with each subsequent release. Darksmith does not so much interrogate the boundaries of a space as generate a science fictional topography via magnetic tape and electronics. Vitrine is honored to have the opportunity to share this new work by one of the best artists currently working in the form. Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Artist: EMBUDAGONN 108
Title: Requiem
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine takes a bow and closes out 2015 with sufficient aural atrocity from iconoclastic purveyors of diffusion, Embudagonn 108. Nobu Kasahara is perhaps better known as Wataru Kasahara, a visual artist whose point of organ, scatological and obsessive work inhabits the same putrefaction as Dernier Cri or the material art of Andy Bolus. As Embudagonn 108, Kasahara has expelled a curious catalog of sounds - shortwave, room event, organ malfunction. Requiem consists of archival recordings made between 1988-91 and embodies a strong distaste for passive or receptive noise. Embudagonn 108 confuses, infuriates and incites the listener towards action. Shortwave and electronic interference stumbles alongside occasional crackle and percussion drudgery. A radio play as in amusement through use. Kasaharas work features the same arch nihilism on display in Violent Onsen Geisha, but these recordings are also clearly influenced by Fluxus absurdism such as Sarenco or Arthur Pétronio. A lurid disregard for expression or puerile sensationalism. “What are you even trying to say?” Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Title: Ids Inte
Format: Cass

Price: $8.00
"Incendiary confusion amidst pointless data. A dumb nothing of electronics and vital intoxication. “I dont care.” Vitrine kicks off its summer batch of releases with the latest cassette from Swedens Heinz Hopf. Dan Johansson and Matthias Andersson have been steadily contributing invaluable work to the experimental community, both local and international, throughout the 2000s, either via projects such as Johanssons Sewer Election, Anderssons Arv & Miljö, or the latters Release the Bats and IDDB record labels. For the past five years, Johansson and Andersson have been collectively delivering the next best thing to a bag full of Elkbrews and some MSNP tapes. Theres constant movement which never leads to progress as dense sound drops out to half-seconds of silence, following which the listener returns to another spot on the map, as if such a relocation mattered. High-yield noise without some vague pretense towards darkness or taboo. Limit points without the notion of a dotted line. It would be apt to call this a manifestation of pure, libidinal energy, if it wasnt all so gloriously drunk and retarded. Sound for sounds sake. Pleasure for no sake at all. Vitrine is nothing but proud to release thirty minutes of Gothenburgs finest. Limited to 100 copies. " - Virtine.

Artist: MANNING, ROSS
Title: Natural Causes
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
“Vitrine is thrilled to welcome Brisbane-based installation and sound artist Ross Manning to its roster. Laminal, scrapping and what could be the cry of a child. Home-made instruments and location-hewn ambience develop a nuanced sculptural sound. Psychic whimsy and the sensuality of the object exonerate household ticking and churning. The everyday as ecstatic as it always has been. Natural Causes follows a recent banner run of releases by Manning, including 2015s Interlacing LP, the Delicate Shades of Hell cs on sterling tape imprint Greedy Ventilator and LED, an outstanding 10” of new works self-released by the artist earlier this year. Chimes cut to dour electronic warble. A standard bearer of contrast and sonorous multitude. Clang, clatter and debris swarm in plumes of activity. Adam Bohmans object improv or Joe Jones solar music are signposts along the way to a unique hemisphere of absurd inevitability. Bells vibrate above whipping crescents of machinery. Persistent creaking stumbles in a textured cluster. Irregular romance. Excerpts from Le Couperet, arriving thirty years too late. Natural Causes is the latest entry in what is fast becoming one of the most singular bodies of work in contemporary sound. Sold out at source.” - Vitrine.

Artist: MIRANDE, CHRISTIAN
Title: Thracian Summer
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Time takes its time to get here. Watching it pass requires patience and real observation, unencumbered by motivation or prompt. Vitrine is proud to announce Thracian Summer, the watershed new release by Philadelphia-based artist Christian Mirande. The hand disappears to reveal gesture, gesture disappears. Mirande discloses things hidden in slantwise language through an apocalypse of studied sequence. Sounds possess unhurried confidence in both space and incident. Echo builds to physical swirl reminiscent of nothing less than Ferial Confine. Mirandes use of modular synthesis and unprocessed field recordings fall into black holes of logic - the manner in which an artist shows himself in the world without oppressing himself upon nature. An organics of intention set these tracks apart from other releases utilizing the tools on the table. Narrative doesnt arise over these two sides- an emotional mimesis is driven to exist. John Hudak joins Sean Dower and John Mylotte after curfew at an industrial yard in Derwenthaugh on the river Tyne. Automobiles and pedestrians in Seoul. Bad radio in public spaces. Mirande arrives at decisions through living rather than emulation of formula. Vitrine has been shaped in no small part due to the personal and professional influence of artists like Christian Mirande and there is no better way to inaugurate 2016 than with this cassette- a resounding, mature statement. A pleasure in and of itself. Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine.

Title: Dedicated to Dominique Venner
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"“Five percent of individuals, the sociologists admit, are profoundly perverted, crazy, vicious. At the other extreme, one can observe the same proportion of men who possess, naturally and in a developed way, particular qualities of energy and self-sacrifice that predispose them to serve the community and to lead it.”
Vitrine closes out 2014 with the first of two new releases. In the tradition of the Broken Flags Rockwell cassette comes an offering of the most clandestine and refined nature. An apothecary of solitary rhythm box, shortwave and raw mic feedback devoted to excess. Amplifier screed provides the backdrop for dilettante forays into radio interference and guitar improvisation. If the Male Rape Group cassette didnt already exist, someone would have to create it. Dedicated to Dominique Venner exonerates the legacy of the controversial French Nationalist over two side long room events. An elimination of history. An obliteration of morality. An anonymous document of an anonymous event. Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Title: Masochism
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
“This transfer of my libido onto language and intelligence is not a simple defense against guilty genital desires, for it moreover creates a new object of desire, which becomes a new source of satisfaction, supplementary to the pleasure of the erogenous zones : simply put, it is the capacity to infinitely represent and name, to the point of giving words and meaning or non-meaning to genital and masochistic arousal itself. And this in the hope, not only to find partial substitutes to prohibited incest which would be my own activities or symbolic work, but to merit this prohibited love, made guilty and turned inside out to masochism: to merit it by this extravagant capacity of sublimation that all humans possess but which I, little girl, work hard to excel in better than anyone else.” Vitrine presents a further exercise in pointless listening. “Bad joke, but good art.” Why spend time listening to noise when you can just turn it off? Dont let noise become music. A soundtrack to what? The Masochism cassette continues the relay race of overheard sound as featured on Come Orgs Ripper Tape or the Yoran seven inch on Unbalance. Dead air, libidinal mutilation & box amp degradation nip at the heels of marginalia. Found audio and sordid news exposes are occasionally offset by cheap electronics and a minimum skill set. Its very hard to take serious matters seriously. The best noise is that which isnt even meant to be listened to. Limited to 100 copies.” - Vitrine.

Artist: POSSET
Title: Double Jupiter
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
“Vitrine is proud to announce Double Jupiter, common senses latest casualty from Newcastle-based project Posset. Joe Murray, the artist responsible for Posset, is a tireless advocate of what he terms the No Audience Underground, both through critical writings on uncommon sound in Radio Free Midwich and via his own output, which is a promiscuous celebration of collaboration, casual encounter and mistake as annunciation. The Posset back catalog offers prismatic forays into the outliers of recorded concussion. This latest cassette follows a seven inch released earlier in ‘16 on the singular IDDB imprint and offers private reconnaissance from similar territory. Double Jupiter is a strange bird of mottled plumage -telltale dictaphone, appropriation, musicality as estrangement, and phlegmatic evocations of Bob Cobbing. Sound poetry from the vantage point of languages collapse. Murray allows tapes physicality to dictate texture and taste, while voice locates a gentle humanity amidst the fray. Theres a sense of automatic composition as collation. Theres no common sense, but Murray maintains a more holistic sense across the two visionary sides of Double Jupiter. A pickled albatross of detained ecriture. The goose shat silver dollars and each one was pure gold. Sold out at source.” - Vitrine.

Title: Sad Vocal Manipulation..? Sorry, Im New and Not Very Clear On This
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
Edition of 100. “From climax to climax to the point of seizure. Theater gives way to cinema and the blur of the impulsive body. Violin and piano, or maybe just voice and the fading imprint of speech. Vitrine is proud to present the latest cassette from Icelandic artist Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson. Hiccups and romance escape from the throat, mixed into a tincture of robust musicality, location recordings and dense electronics. A demons attack of treated recordings inject raw purpose into each of these varied tracks. Sigmarsson eludes the crosshairs of the specific; his work ranges from painting to photography to drawing to phlegmatic performance, yet no matter the medium, he exorcises the unsaid and undone. Acoustic guitar, church bells and gallows mumbling could just as easily be an outtake from the Gerogerigegeges Endless Humiliation as a deleted Obscure label release. Earnest emotion passes for parody - its all a joke, something to do with canards and sturgeon. “Just because its funny, doesnt mean Im not crying.” Sigmarsson has garnered an exceptional resume in sound, both as a founding member of Stilluppsteypa and solo, with releases on labels such as Ultra Eczema, Chocolate Monk, Hanson and Korm Plastics. Sad Vocal Manipulation..? is a cosmic ark of diversity, ranging from the micro tensions of the body to painterly landscapes beyond the expanse of recognitions. The sharp craftsmanship leads to a submerged Atlantis, or perhaps just a cheap pub of the same name on Karaoke night. Whats going on? Either way, this one is a keeper. Each copy of Sad Vocal Manipulation..? includes a unique cover illustration, hand-drawn by the artist.” - Vitrine.

Title: The Adulator
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Materiality thrown in the face of misanthropy. An empty bar somewhere. Tables with no one around them. Vitrine is proud to announce the first label-affiliated release from Texas-based artist Stewart Skinner. Fidelity confusion, dullness and inept string work wander across two cassette sides and forty minutes of bleak malfunction. Radio decays in a cloud as dense as the musk in an unfurnished bedroom. A blanket is rolled into the corner. Touchstones can be found in the sub-basement of Italian non-music, a space occupied by such singular projects as Lyoto Music and Amok. ‘The Adulator also harkens back to a homemade American sound which covers everything from the invasive electronics of early John Duncan to the exercises in collapse of Hands To circa Turn Back the Sun. This is the whirl of interference jammed around the erase head. Silence does not connote track breaks or continuity. Concern for nothing but sound in its vulgar sight. Stewart Skinner has been a pivotal figure in supporting and shaping the Vitrine aesthetic almost from its nascent beginning and it is with great pleasure that the label unveils such a mature and singular work. Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Title: The Sallow Rakes
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
Edition of 100. "Vitrine is thrilled to announce a new cassette from Pennsylvania-based visual artist and instrument builder, Jim Strong. The Sallow Rakes runs a triathlon down the middle and back again through Strongs varied repertoire, which encompasses broken electronics, free improvisation, crank-based mechanisms and sound poetry. His work marries dance and video with homespun artifacts of painting and hand-built machinery. The Sallow Rakes suggests the most curious reaches of mail art and sound poetry, reminding the listener of under appreciated acts of the Underwhich Audiographics family such as DUCT and Tekst. Vitrine alumni Mel Bentley provides text and voice as counterpoint to Strongs amorphous instrumentation and spoken word. Rubber burns on a pyre of wet oak. Breath bleeds into the more discreet sounds of the body. Jim Strong has made a name for himself privileging the collaborative and intuitive serendipity of performance. That said, The Sallow Rakes is an inclusive marvel which yet speaks of a focused and individual personality. The protein mirror. Bob Cobbings work in Konkrete Canticle is a possible road marker, but that doesnt quite get the adventurous traveler all the way there. This is an invented compass, pointing to a True North beyond the axises. Here, an interior mystery play of device.” - Vitrine.

Title: Rope Commercial Vol. 2

Price: $7.00
"Vitrine inaugurates 2015 with the second volume in the Rope Commercial series courtesy Kentucky-based artist, Robert Beatty. Since the early 2000s, Beatty has been a stalwart of the American underground. Hes expanded his palette in recent years with solo forays as Three Legged Race. Rope Commercial Vol. 2 finds Beatty venturing further beyond the pale, delivering two sides of sinkhole electronics straight out of a dusted Igloo LP or an anomalous 8” flexi of Kansai post-punk. Wordless distance is traveled in miniature. Throughout the fulgent diversity of the cassettes twenty minutes, Beatty exemplifies the unhurried poise of a master. Sound for the end of ozone. Title: antidocument/groundwork
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"A pebble codex. Vitrine is honored to present antidocument/groundwork, the first album of new work by Massimo Toniutti since 1991s Il Museo Selvatico. Toniutti has been crafting a theatre of geometry and meiosis since the early 80s with his self-released cassettes bridging concrete sound, Industrial shadow play and stately dispersal. A rustle, something falls. Out of bounds electronics complicate sound cabinets of ringing bells and creaking joints. The furniture is cleared from the room. Echo precedes incident. antidocument/groundwork finds spiritual kinship with Toniuttis past work, but exists as its own monument to tape and place. Charge and field in secular transitions of magnetic layering. Plateaus of mysterious sound reveal latent sense in a latticed order. Rising and falling along latitudes of significance. Tapping, fade and swelter into sequences far climes. Suddenly, a string is plucked and tape reacts in space. While comparisons can be made to artists such as Andrew Chalk or G*Park, Massimo Toniutti creates his own context. This is the assured, mature work of a master. There is no further explanation necessary than the sound itself. antidocument/groundwork follows through on the promise of Toniuttis past works and surpasses them in nuance and minute scale. A rustle and swift mic interference - a wind up moratorium. Its all on negotiable instruments. Its all up in the air and committed to tape. When the tape stops, flip it over and play again. Title: Byron Recital Hall No. 3
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine is thrilled to unveil Byron Recital Hall No. 3, the latest volume in a continuing series of assemblages and chance meetings. Being left with the stain of blind interaction. Episodic actions spool into greater chambers of interlocking dismay. Mike Collino, either with solo efforts as Dog Lady Island or via his sterling Alien Passengers imprint, exemplifies the midwestern / Detroit milieu of home-tapers and jammers while also generating a blurred, placeless intrigue. There is more than enough room at this table for analog gunk and grime, but a place has been set for refined obscurantism and Fluxus absurdity. The bent is unmistakably American while also Continental, not unlike LaDonna Smith and Davey Williams Southern skew on surrealist bric-a-brac via Trans Museq. Various players are assembled in aggregate units to then be combined and mixed according to procedural schematic. While past volumes reeked of a heady Detroit junk noise brew and the spacious event of East Bionic Symphonia, this issue touches on everything from abattoir circuitry to Phren-esque analytic decollage. The players are amongst the lighthouses of the fertile midwestern vein, including Tyler Hicks, Andrew Coltrane, Heath Moerland, Sam Hooker and Knox Mitchell, as well as criminally under-documented artists such as Brad Dixon and Michael Dresden. Byron Recital Hall No. 3 serves as a candle down to a morass of largely untapped group innovation. What was once obscure becomes obvious to a fault. Rooms are disassembled, voices lose their bodies and decay never truly manages to destroy the sound. Limited to 100 copies. Sold out at source." - Vitrine

Title: Map of the Interior
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Vitrine is proud to announce its very first compilation as well as its final release of 2014. Map of the Interiors nine tracks present a love letter to the heyday of mail-art culture and a promise that such international friendship is still thriving across postal channels and on the internet. In his collection, After Lorca, American poet Jack Spicer resuscitates the Spanish writer Federico Garcia Lorca through a series of letters sent across the gulf of time and mortality. Map of the Interior attempts to bridge a spatial, rather than temporal divide, with nine tracks devoted to the marriage of tape and breath. Tape prolongs the life of the voice, extending it beyond the body into the greater polis. Hiss, flutter, yawn. Map of the Interior features contributions from a distinguished pedigree of international artists, including Matthew Philip Hopkins, Arv & Miljö, Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson Yeast Culture, and Spoils & Relics, as well as Vitrine house artists Good Area and No Intention. “Things do not connect. They correspond.” Limited to 250 copies." - Vitrine.

Artist: WALKER, RUSSELL
Title: I Never See My Pal
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
Edition of 100. ““The classic book, so readable now.” Footsteps and a passing automobile introduce daily comedy and the droll slake of boredom. Vitrine is honored to announce the newest release by British artist Russell Walker, I never see my pal. Russell Walkers work inhabits an impressive and idiosyncratic sector, from the frayed post-punk of the Phermoans to the synth preambles of the Bomber Jackets. This alone makes Walker an intriguing contemporary figure. His work in the Charcoal Owls, Teleporters and under his own name, on the other hand, paints a Pickmans Model of parochial malaise and out of bounds art rock. I never see my pal compiles, for the first time on cassette, two rare and deleted Savoury Days CDrs. “You wouldnt have got them if I didnt like…these. I want these.” While Side As Willow Session contrasts field recordings with penumbral acoustic sketches, The Thwartee of Side B combines dour shortwave with the eldritch banality of Mark E Smiths the Post-Nearly Man. Musicality is drained of semblance and incidental sound gains fragile primacy. Crude keyboard. Television from the other room. Wind interference. Guitar and voice made strange and uncommon. Words smell of stale beer. The nightmare is the accuracy of life on dreadful display. Casual occurrence falls into inevitability. Heres another chance to pick up two of the most confounding and vital releases of the past five years. “I want to change what people see when they look at me.” - Vitrine.

Artist: WHITE, TOM
Title: Automated Evangelism
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
“Piano denouement and the bare scraps of a dance recital. Vitrine is honored to present new work by London-based artist Tom White. In less than a decade of public performance, White has amassed an impressive oeuvre stretching across a multimedia platform including, but not limited to, installation, film and sound art. Automated Evangelism compliments previous releases on storied labels such as Chocolate Monk, Alien Passengers and Imminent Frequencies. Radio and wind bear witness to sonic intervention. An obstinate clarion. Vibrant new realities manifest through the forensic trace of tampering. Moments unfold in sequences of sense rather than chronology. Placing one foot in front of the other creates an inevitable trail. The physical motion of tape mirrors the cadence of footsteps. As spatial and temporal continuity is dissolved by method of the hand and ear, its replaced by a mental continuity - the closed loop revolving amidst thinking. Automated Evangelisms play of the uncanny and dissonant against coherent unity is reminiscent of the light surrealism of John Hudak or Damian Bisciglia, but the pleasures herein remain distinct to White. A constant mystery of performance autonomously folds back into studied archive. Overheard brilliance, tape, presence - it approaches beauty. Sold out at source.” - Vitrine.
