Artist: 75 DOLLAR BILL
Title: Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
75 Dollar Bill is Che Chen and Rick Brown. "Ches interest in the Arabic modes of Mauritanian music has marked our sound quite a bit but I have brought some things, too. The plywood crate I play is a big factor, defining, by its positive qualities (a nice warm boom sound) as well as by its simplicity, what were likely to do in the percussion realm. Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock, this new record, differs quite a bit from the previous one, notably in the rhythmic tone. Wooden Bag (2015) was all forward momentum, stomping and shaking, but the new record explores a long-standing interest of mine: odd and compound meters. In most of my previous musical activities, Ive convinced my partners to delve into this, but in 75 Dollar Bill it has just felt natural and I believe Ches modal investigations and melodic/harmonic tendencies enhance (and are enhanced by) this combination. The current record differs from the last in another big way: reinforcements! Over our few years together, Che and I have frequently had friends play with us at some of our gigs. There have been all sorts of permutations of instruments and some great friends/players who dont all appear on this record but here we are lucky to have a bunch of them: Cheryl Kingan (of The Scene Is Now) on baritone and alto saxes, Andrew Lafkas (of Todd Capps Mystery Train) on contrabass, Karen Waltuch (of Zeke & Karen) on viola, Rolyn Hu (of True Primes) on trumpet and Carey Balch (of Knoxvilles Give Thanks) on floor tom. Please enjoy Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. Earth saw is one of our earliest tunes and, I think, the first result of this compound meter approach. Its a slow 9 beat phrase Che came up with for this odd groove. Beni Said has no fixed rhythmic cycle but a roughly unison melodic phrase and a pulsing, loose feeling of 3s and 4s played using a box full of bottle caps. Cummins Falls features Carey Balch on Diddley-beat floor tom and me reprising the maracas. Im Not Trying To Wake Up is another of our compound meter songs, this one using an 18 beat scheme." - Rick Brown.

Title: Brighter Summer Day
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Decked out in a skullfucked sleeve that looks like a cross between Slayers gorecore classic Seasons In The Abyss and the prison tattoo iconography of original Cleveland gutter punks The Electric Eels, the debut vinyl from Ohios Burning Star Core reconciles the euphoric, physical power of Metal with punk primitive aesthetics and huge lungfuls of drone. The A side is 16 minutes of heavy violin thats more Sonny Sharrock than Tony Conrad, with mainman C Spencer Yeh amassing waves of singing overtones via treated strings and electronics, while Chris Rosing provides the horizontal momentum, accelerating the piece towards the horizon with an epileptic bass drum and some furiously clanking chains. The piece builds to nowhere, growing more potentially eplosive and menacing with each pass, with Yeh stretching his violin to even more extended peaks while never relenting on the tension. The second side features Yeh alone, working through some "sleep deprivation experiments" with a laptop for company. Here he alternates strangulated computer tones that sound liek theyre being torn from a huge electronic harmonica with wraithe-like breaths turning through disconcertingly staggered loops." - David Keenan, WIRE.

Title: Fast Talks
Format: LP

Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Why make up your minds?  You have ears! Musical miniaturist the Curtains present their own kind of west coast cool - a muted music that never reaches the proper conclusion. Aloof and alert, these Curtains keep their music sitting right on the edge of hot and cold.  Composed using their unique Dynathought method, the pieces are like a stream of musical memos or thought bubble goofs shook out from an IBM punchcard computer.  The result? Something in between a weather bureau report and a private confidence: itd seem nonchalant if it werent so personal; itd seem almost warm if it werent so scientific! Their Debut, from San Fransisco, 180 gram vinyl." - Thin Wrist.

Title: Flybys
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"If Wendy Carlos joined the Shaggs to perform Ravels Mother Goose suite, it might sound like Flybys. If the Albert Ayler ensemble took a break from the Love Cry sessions to score the Rockford Files on portable moog and electric kitchen colander, it might sound like Flybys. If Brian Wilson recreated Stan Kentons City of Glass for the Commodore 64 platform, it might sound like Flybys. If Forever Changes, Martians Go Home and Beefhearts Tropical Hot Dog Night were summarized a la Masterplots on musical 3x5s, it might sound like Flybys. Think of asterisks, park maintenance, telegraph wires and the alpine biathlon. Thats what the Curtains did when they wrote Flybys! They call the Curtains "coming of age" music. Full of sweet accidents and big ideas in small packages, what you get are compact, highly personal compositions, neither hot nor cold, but whimsical, lighthearted, portable and idiosyncratic - the warm inventions and cool abstractions of the thinking mans casual imagination on the move. With members of Deerhoof, Natural Dreamers and Open City, they are certainly a mixed bag, but youll like it! " - Thinwrist.

Artist: DRUMM, KEVIN
Title: S/T
Format: Double LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"Thin Wrist Recordings presents the expanded and definitive double LP edition of Kevin Drumms groundbreaking first album, originally released in 1997. Featuring some of the most fiercely abstract and organic guitar work ever heard, Drumms debut is both jarring and completely alien. Dubbed by some as the greatest prepared guitar record ever recorded it prefigured (and continues to trump) almost an entire decade or so of contemporary "out" music that would follow. Beautiful and completely essential. This edition includes an entire fourth side of previously unreleased recordings from Drumms personal archive, all recorded in the same era as the original album. It also includes entirely new artwork featuring the body of the actual guitar used to record the album. The album comes housed in a heavy textured gatefold jacket and includes two full color inserts. High quality 2 x 180 gram vinyl pressed at Pallas Germany and mastered by Rashad Becker at D&M Berlin. Digital download included." - Thinwrist. "Looking back at Kevin through his formidably individual tunnel of works, its hard to remember that his first official recorded statement would be caught sneaking into bed alongside historys milestones of "solo instrument improvisation." Or that, in turn, it also would be caught trying to sneak out of the house built by Father Jazz, into a backyard that still hasnt quite been fenced off yet. Those running around Chicago chasing down the sound in the mid-90s shouldve already known about this guy and his contributions both in and out of the relative spotlight. For those far from the city winds, thankfully they mightve gotten the message in the form of this missive. In the afterglow of later love letters titled Sheer Hellish Miasma and Imperial Distortion, its absolutely overdue that this first musty green postcard be dug out, polished off, and framed. Judged by its understated title, "Self-Titled" aka "Guitar" is incredibly literal -- what you hear is what you get. In the simplest considerations, the ensuing connotations and possibilities are wide open; the real-time velocity of urgent decision and movement are wrapped in a clearly-mapped compositional endurance that continues to stand firmly in the relative spotlights of this day. No surprise then, that even all these years later, we would still be trying to figure out exactly at which table Kevin should squarely sit. They say that every kid who heard this record immediately went out and grabbed a busted guitar with a scratchy selector switch, ready to subject their friends to fuzzy pauses of amp hum. I know of at least four."- C. Spencer Yeh, spring 2010, Brooklyn NY.

Artist: KOLOVOS, PETER
Title: Black Colors
Format: Triple LP Box
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $38.00
"Over more than a decade Peter Kolovos has created an incredibly physical and dynamic musical language using the electric guitar. He plays music that unpredictably flows from electrified fragments of sound which fold and expand in dense layers and massive tones that surge and collapse in rapid succession. His approach has been called “massively a-formal” and his control of timing and texture “masterful.” Rather than set harmonic or rhythmic structures, he draws form from open sequences of sound events merged and propelled by a distinct internal logic. In his music Kolovos attempts to erase the line between intent and impulse and to create sounds that are immediate and unrepeatable. Black Colors is the fullest realization of Kolovoss music to date. Over six sides of vinyl the album presents a vast world of intricate sound—at times dense and teeming with saturated bursts and drones and at others sparse with minute ticks and quiet tones that reverberate in open space. Without a preset listening sequence, the album is intended to be a shifting, prismatic work—with sides that can be arranged in hundreds of different sequences, each yielding a distinct sound experience. The music on Black Colors is coupled with Zoe Croshers artwork. Eight photographs from her "L.A. Black Like" series present views from the black spaces and shadows of Los Angeles where light and color only pierce the darkness in filtered and obscured glimpses of the outside world. Beyond being created in the same time and place, Croshers images and Kolovoss music share a deeper consonance. Deluxe Packaging: 3 x 180 gram high-quality vinyl pressed at Pallas Germany. Mastered at 45 RPM for volume, dynamics, and clarity by Rashad Becker at D&M Berlin. Full-color, heavy tip-on slipcase with three full-color sleeves. Digital download included." - Thin Wrist.

Title: New Bodies
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
Full Color Heavy Tip-On Cover / 180 Gram Vinyl Edition of 500. "Peter Kolovos, guitarist in Los Angeles trio Open City, presents here three tracks of electric guitar improvisations. Each features successively recorded left- and right-channel guitars, in which the overdub responds asynchronously to the original. While Open City explored the electroacoustic interplay afforded by the two-guitar and drums line-up, in New Bodies, his first solo release, Kolovos lets rip with all the skronk and blurt hes been holding in for the last decade, in tiny, tightly gated segments. His sound vocabulary is very broad, and his control of texture and timing is masterful. Using equalisation, reverb, envelope shaping and volume control... He rapidly opens and closes the volume window on a dizzying series of extended guitar techniques, creating the inescapable impression of Derek Bailey covering The Residents Duck Stab. If that wont sell records, I dont know what will. This electrifying effect is enhanced by the crisp digital recording and the superb Dubplates and Mastering pressing job - every clang and buzz is right up in your grill. Released on Kolovoss own imprint, the packaging continues the good work. The cover features a magnificent photograph of the guitarist taken by Joyce Campbell using the mid-19th century tin type process, which requires a sitting of over three minutes. The resulting image is as physically time based as the recording it encloses, and has the distinctive look of a Victorian death mask - no posing or even facial expression is possible. In this regard the cover is an exact metaphor of the recording - what you perceive is exactly what you get." - Bruce Russell, The Wire August 2009

Title: L.A. We Revise Your Neglect
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"From Los Angeles, Open City chase two electric guitars and one close-miked drumkit through scurrying pointillist sketches, firecracker drones, and explosive smears of colour. Members of Open City have previously played with the likes of Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier, and Phill Niblock, and theres no denying their strong grasp of the language of higher minded improvisation. Yet their approach is undercut with a real rock sensibility, made most manifest in the barbed wire tones of the guitars. Indeed, the combination of avant theory and punk rock aethetics drops them in a similar space to Sonic Youths Goodbye 20th Century. Drummer Andrew Maxwell runs the gamut of percussive techniques, from all-out pots and pans attack through the kind of sonorous cymbal work that Eddie Prevost uses to illuminate AMMs darker paths. Twin guitarists Peter Kolovos and Doug Russell veer from Sonic Youths Moore/Ranaldo tag team wrassling to setting their guitars up as lightning rods for the liquid flow of electricity. Though the music is formless, the group are so aggressively focused that even the slightest of movements feels totally inexorable." - David Keenan; WIRE.

Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Recorded live in Los Angeles during the summer of 97 -- a deep organic group sound, that began in 1986 and has only recently been heard outside of select CA villas, bungalows, and garages. Building/breaking buzz, drone, layered strings and tones, with staggered abstract rhythms throughout -- entirely free improvised and electric -- no over-dbs, no synths. Using a five stringed mexi-caster and an Epiphone-les guitar recorded live to two-tracks through an LAPD-auctioned 4-trk. Straight to the capitalist head, out of the latent CA free-drone under-ground. Edition of 500 copies with silk-screened gatefold jackets pressed in 1999." - Thin Wrist.

Title: The Birth of Cruel
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"A gorgeous record of free sound: Through three unsettled pieces, Open City breaks down the formalism of the avant garde, noise and free improvisation to reveal one of todays most distinctive and intense group dynamics. The group use a constant flow of deep drone, pointilistic cut ups, rich texture and silence to create Alpha music. Unrepeatable and unpredictable, aggressively abstract, time-stamped, adaptive, actionist, attentionist, fun. Open City aims for a moment before music, the unsettled pause before a devastating blow. The Birth of Cruel is a generational X-flare, a sound proposition,a coronal mass ejection of propulsive and audible means...................................Enjoy!" - Thinwrist. "These guys can melt plastic from a block away, and are capable of producing equally delicate traceries of sound a the drop of the proverbial hat. Listen and weep." - Bruce Russell (The Dead C, Corpus Hermeticum).

Title: I Love Thousands Every Summer
Format: 7"
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Inspired by Coleridges opium-induced reverie, “Kubla Khan,” Nedelle Torrisi named her band Paradise to evoke a perfect place,
the opposite of hell— a place where, as the poem describes, a person exists in perfect harmony with their creativity.
Torrisis Paradise is a place of innocence before cynicism, one where love is still king. Her music embraces romantic sentiments
and an intimate earnestness that invites listeners to abandon their own sense of self consciousness. In Paradises music, Torrisi writes love songs that long to fulfill the unfinished figures of a lovers fleeting thoughts and utterances.
In A Lovers Discourse, Roland Barthes wrote that "The lover speaks in bundles…but does not integrate these sentences
on a higher level…but all together they make up the love story."
With Paradise, Torrisi weaves these unresolved emotions and stories into love songs. I Love Thousands Every Summer is Paradises first release. Limited Edition Deluxe 7" Vinyl (Download Included). Nine 7" x 7" full color inserts housed in letterpressed vellum envelope." - Thin Wrist.

Artist: TEARIST
Title: Living: 2009-Present
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Over the last two years Tearist has become one of the most notorious and vital bands in the new underground pulsing through Los Angeles. Building on songs driven by intense vocals and synths, the duos performances are known for being deeply physical and direct events. Yasmine Kittles sings from the depths of her body/soul and moves in a near-transfixed state, using scrap metals to scrape rhythm from the ground beneath her. All the while, as if telepathically linked, William Strangeland uses sputtering, cracked synthesizers to create shimmering melodic lines along rumbling interlocked beats and rhythms. Their songs flow and surge, building thick layers of analog sound and noise, often leaving wrecked PAs in their wake. On the heels of the bands recent 12” EP issued by No Ages PPM label, Thin Wrist Recordings is proud to release Tearists first full-length album, Tearist Living: 2009-Present. The album is a rough, raw document taken from audience recordings made in warehouses, lofts, concert halls and everywhere in between. Across two sides of vinyl, multiple versions and performance tapes are spliced, mashed, layered, collapsed and collaged to create an organically flowing album. Full songs cut with snippets and interludes capture the band in its early formation. This is a sideways introduction to Tearists devastating performances and a nod to semi-legendary live cassettes and bootlegs. Think of it as a sort of Sonic Death, 2 x 4, or Metallic K.O. for today, or maybe 23 Minutes Over Brussels via Los Angeles. This is immediate and unpolished sound as a means to an intimate and transcendent experience. Limited edition high quality vinyl in full color & hand-letterpressed heavy tip-on jacket." - Thinwrist.
