Artist: BEAT OF THE EARTH
Title: The Beat of the Earth
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $19.00
"Phil Pearlman, whose Relatively Clean Rivers album (RRLP020) has received universal acclaim, assembled Beat Of The Earth in 1967 with this, their first, eponymous album, appearing on the Radish label (AS0001) in the same year. BOTE is often compared with their illustrious East coast counterparts, The Velvet Underground, an apt comparison given the Velvets penchant for long, unstructured jams using a myriad assortment of acoustic and electronic instruments. This is the earliest incarnation of the band, and the one that is most familiar to collectors fortunate enough to own a copy of this incredibly rare album. The album consists of a single track per side, and this, the bands recording debut, is considered an unusual and singular item of significance from the California 60s alternative rock scene. Although guitarist Pearlman managed to keep Beat Of The Earth together for much of the remainder of the 60s, it is fair to say that no more proper recordings were made, although Pearlman continued to add to his personal collection of studio recordings, drafting in new musicians for impromptu after-hours recording sessions arranged at short notice. Another fascinating psych album from a true musical innovator." - Radioactive. Highly recommended!

Artist: BERMUDA TRIANGLE
Title: Bermuda Triangle
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.50
"Released as a private pressing on the aptly named Winter Solstice label, Bermuda Triangle who hail from Long Island New York released this gem in the height of Punk...1977. A combination of The Farm Band and Bobby Brown (the solo act from early 1970s California), Wendy Carlos meets Joan Baez the band were made up of a female singer/bassist/female drummer/violinist and a guy who sings and plays the electronic auto harp/organ and piano. The sound is totally lost in time and transports you back to the carefree days of the early seventies and is extremely trippy. You have to check out the wah wah auto harp, the weird percussion and bass, a great listen almost pre-dates the current folktronica scene. This wild album has to be heard and is quite superb from folk to reels to country all bathed in this misty auto harped glory." - Radioactive.

Artist: COSMIC MICHAEL
Title: After A While
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"I am a child of Woodstock nation, Ive come a long way from my home... So sings the one and only Cosmic Michael, on this the opening track of his second album released by the Bliss label in 1970. An album now high on serious psych collector wants lists too... Cosmic Michael. Well, some regard him as a Godhead, the ultimate spiritual hippy, with songs of love, freedom & peace, all delivered with just piano, vocals and kazoo(?)...A true guru... But, what of the music? I guess these days youd call it loner psych, but back then the term freak rock might have been applied to such a release. After his eponymous, and equally enigmatic debut album released a year earlier, hed witnessed the Woodstock festival, absorbed the vibe, and relocated to Los Angeles where he then recorded After a While, seemingly quite quickly...Ive seen The Who, and Ten Years After, Jefferson Airplane they nearly blew my mind.... The nine tracks on After a While are stoned 60s DIY rock nroll. You can call it lo-fi or home made, but the message remains: Cosmic Michael preaches love and freedom, and hes a mean boogie-woogie player too." - Radioactive.

Artist: CREME SODA
Title: Tricky Zingers
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Creme Soda generated a fanatical following based on their legendary single (Im) Chewin Gum/Roses All Around which appeared on the Trinity label in 1975. Creme Soda are not an easy band to categorise as they were able to play virtually any musical genre with consummate ease. Their only full-length album, Tricky Zingers (which also includes their hit singles), also made its appearance on Trinity (Trinity CST11) in 1975 and despite the considerable interest the record generated, the band, perhaps mindful of the adage quit while youre ahead, did exactly that, never to be heard of again. Tricky Zingers is an impressive and relatively overlooked recording, which, despite being recorded in 1975, has a decidedly mid-60s feel about it. The albums style ranges from folkrock to wasted psychedelia, with two experimental tracks featuring drone effects and backwards guitar thrown in for good measure, as well as a couple of rootsy rockn roll numbers." - Radioactive.

Artist: FLOWER TRAVELLIN BAND
Title: Satori
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Possessing the vision to select Akira Joe Yamanaka as their vocalist, the Flower Travellin boys elevated themselves above other Japanese bands of the time, whose efforts were largely confined to imitating British and American bands of the era. Satori , which was released in 1971, is a conceptual hard rockpsych album driven by Hideki Ishimas furious guitar licks which erupt and explode over the harmonic heart beat of the drums and bass and Yamanakas banshee-like vocal style which was turning him into an occidental Iggy Pop or Ozzy Osbourne while the band itself was rapidly becoming Japans answer to Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. Satori is a huge album in every way. From power chords to Easterntinged North African six string freak-outs and crashing tom-toms, the band flexes its collective muscle from start to finish." - Radioactive.

Artist: FOREST
Title: Forest
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"New, official reissue (previous version on BGO is long gone). Like their COB reissue, this is a stepped up quality remaster from Radioactive. Originally issued by Harvest in 1969, this is one of the definite debut folk albums of all time." - FE. "As the 1960s progressed, almost every musical genre was affected by the  psychedelic boom - and folk was no exception. Artists such as Bert Jansch, Davy Graham and Donovan had introduced elements of world music into their repertoires by 1965, and in 1966 the Incredible String Bands debut kicked the door wide open for a generation of young musicians to follow. Forest, whose two Harvest albums have long elated listeners and eluded collectors, featured prominently among them, and have become synonymous with so-called acid folk, inspiring - alongside Vashti Bunyan, COB and a handful of others - the current wave of successful underground folk acts. Originally called The Foresters Of Walesby the band abbreviated their name to Forest and were fortunate enough to meet John Peel at a  local gig and he encouraged them to play in London. After a triumphant gig in Notting Hills All Saints Hall at Christmastime 1968, Forest were offered a management deal with Blackhill Enterprises, home to amongst others, Pink Floyd and Roy Harper. It wasnt long before offers of record contracts came their way and the band eventually signed to EMIs nascent Harvest label. This, their debut album was recorded at Abbey Road early in 1969 and featured completely original material, with their strangely-sculptured melodies and partially improvised accompaniment. The playing is often inspired and the albums recording quality excellent.  Mastered at Abbey Road by NickWebb from the original analogue tapes. Featuring full participation from founding band member Martin Welham." - Radioactive.

Artist: GERMAN OAK
Title: German Oak
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $19.00
"During the summer of 1972, best remembered for the bloodshed of the Munich Olympics, the 5-man Dusseldorf instrumental group German Oak entered the Luftschutzbunker (Air Raid Shelter) studio to record their first, eponymous album. The purpose of recording in a bunker was to recreate the feelings experienced by German soldiers during the Allied invasion of 1944. The strange acoustic conditions in the bunker made the music, which was a series of long, spacious guitar jams, sound distant and filled with echo. Julian Cope, in his in-depth review of the album, describes the bands sound in unequivocal terms ...imagine a brutally recorded, brazen and ultra-skeletal industrial white funk played with all the claw-handed technique of the Red Crayola recording their famous Hurricane Fighting Plane. This is the sound of German Oak." - Radioactive.

Artist: HAPPY DRAGON BAND, THE
Title: The Happy Dragon Band
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Following the lack of success generated by The Phantoms Divine Comedy which briefly appeared on Capitol circa 1974, Tommy Court, the tortured genius behind the bands Doors-like facade, dropped the mask and wrote and produced this album of electronic gymnastics and fuzz guitars which appeared on the Fiddlers Music label (Fiddlers Music Company) in 1978 under the guise of the Happy Dragon Band. The album features loads of synthesizers, electronic sound effects and spacey, cosmic electronics. Every track is uniquely engaging, with the stand-outs being Positive People, In Flight and 3-D Free (the last being a total electronic freakout from start to finish), maintaining their high level of originality and a clear penchant for electronic experimentation." - Radioactive. Very highly recommended!

Artist: J.D. BLACKFOOT
Title: The Ultimate Prophecy
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"J.D. Blackfoots The Ultimate Prophecy, originally released on the Mercury label (SR 61288) in 1970, is widely regarded as one of the top US psych albums of all time. The band, which was from Columbus, Ohio, began as a combination of two local groups, The EbbTide and Tree, the latter winning a recording contract with Mercury as a prize in a local band competition. Craig Fuller, later a founding member of Pure Prairie League, joined the band, which by this time had changed its name to J.D. Blackfoot, after some of the material for The Ultimate Prophecy had been written. Shortly after the release of the album, Blackfoot left the group which continued to perform as Osiris, while J.D. himself assembled a new outfit which delivered two well-received albums for Fantasy. The Ultimate Prophecy with its killer psych guitar, combined a strong British sound with the distinctive song-oriented California sound of Grateful Dead and Neil Young, two of the main inspirations for many an aspiring rock musician of the time. However, despite the laid back rural West Coast sound that the band effortlessly cultivates, shades of UK progsters such as Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues often come to the fore revealing what is, in essence the groups true musical intentions. Nevertheless, this is a fine album, beautifully played (drummer Dan Waldron is in many ways the hero of the hour) and extremely well recorded." - Radioactive.

Artist: JOSEPH
Title: Stoned Aged Man
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"This is a rare album indeed and much sought after, originally released on the Scepter label (SPS 574) in 1970 and recorded in Memphis at the legendary American Sound Studios. The Joseph was in fact Joseph Long or Joseph Longeria, discovered by the albums producer and A & R man Steve Tyrell playing in Houston in a battle of the blues competition. This is the only known foray into recording that Longeria made and he was a superb guitar player to boot. Stoned Age Man contains some of weirdest lyrics ever written. Check out I Aint Fattenin No More Frogs for Snakes and the eastern Cold Biscuits and Fish Heads. This is an obscure classic that lovers of blues rock should not hesitate to have in their collection... the voice you may ask... well think Roky Erickson, Jim Dandy and Beefheart....you cant really go wrong can you????" - Radioactive.

Artist: MAGICAL POWER MAKO
Title: Super Record
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"New UK reissue of the second (and all-time best) Mako album, originally issued by Japanese Polydor in 1975; there have been a couple Japanese CD reissues of this in the past, which are no longer available. One of the key documents of Japanese underground psychedelic music, presented in truly sublime fashion. Although MPM went on to record 20+ more records after this one, he would never exceed the spatial exuberance of Super Record. From the liner notes: "Makos music possesses a certain strange kind of texture. Its certainly is what they call rock, but contains elements that we cant describe so succinctly. It clearly goes beyond the various genres of music, and while full of them all, it sends forth a fierce glow. This Super Record shows Mako looking down upon the earth from above, wandering through Alaska and Siberia, the Near East, Okinawa, and South America. Adding to the variety of folk music of India, Turkey, and Russia, his mandolin or Taisho koto, and especially his marvelously performed guitar, expressing fully the odor of the soil and mankinds universality."

Artist: RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS
Title: s/t
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"Former BEAT OF THE EARTH leader PHIL PEARLMAN assembled this band in the early 70s and eventually recorded this magnificent rural rock album in 1975." - Radioactive.

Artist: STAINED GLASS
Title: Aurora
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Second, and generally regarded as the better of the bands two albums recorded for Capitol in the late 60s. Formed in 1966, Stained Glass began life as a Beatles cover band performing live in and around their native San Jose until an A&R man from RCA signed them to the label later that year. Disillusioned with life at RCA, the band decamped to Capitol in early 1968, where they were to record three singles and two highly-acclaimed albums which, despite attracting the critics plaudits, failed to make an impact causing the group to disband in November 1969 with vocalist/bass player Jim McPherson going on to join Copperhead. While the bands first album, Crazy Horse Roads was an eccentric amalgam of commercial tunes, fuzz guitar and psych touches, their second effort, Aurora, with its looser, more jammy feel, is the one that the general consensus rates as the better of the two." - Radioactive.

Artist: STALK-FORREST GROUP
Title: St Cecilia - The California Album
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Back in 1970 a five-piece band from Long Island, New York, inexplicably changed its name from Soft White Underbelly to Stalk-Forrest Group and made the journey to Los Angeles and the offices of Elektra Records, then riding high with their two rock-psych bands Love and the Doors. It is widely believed that Elektra viewed the band as a potential East Coast Doors, and the label wasted no time in getting them into the studio to record an albums worth of psychedelic tunes, rich in high harmonies and fluid, accomplished guitar interplay and trippy-hippy lyrics, under the watchful eyes of the co-production team Sandy Pearlman and Jay Lee although Elektra had originally intended for Don Gallucci (formerly of Don And The Goodtimes) to produce the album. Gallucci, however, slipped away without informing the label or the band of his departure. Around the same time bassist Andy Winters was replaced by drummer Albert Bouchards brother Joe, and sensing the project had all the hallmarks of an ill-fated venture, Elektra promptly dropped the band, but not before releasing a paltry 200 copies of a single taken from the unreleased album session. Obviously not deterred by this setback, the band promptly changed its name to Blue Oyster Cult, signed for Columbia and retuned its musical style to heavy metal. The rest, as they say, is history! This reissue of the unreleased Calfornian session, bearing the name of the 90s German bootleg, has been re-mastered to a particularly high standard, as befits one of the best West Coast-style psych albums ever made." - Radioactive.

Artist: TAMAM SHUD
Title: Gooluntionites and the Real People
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Although the Sydney-based Tamam Shud (the unusual name is probably a corruption of Taman Shud, borrowed from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam) was formed in 1967 by singer/guitarist Lindsay Bjerre, the band only sprang to prominence when their superb debut album, Evolution , was issued by CBS (SBP 233761) in 1969. Having established themselves with Evolution , the band went on to record their opus major for Warner Bros in 1970 in the form of the ambitious Goolutionites And The Real People (WS 20001), a stunning and imaginative work dominated by the prodigious talents of 16-year old guitarist, Tim Gaze. Gazes precocious guitar work was conspicuously present throughout the album, although it was on A Plague and Stand In The Sunlight, both of which were to appear as 45s, that his playing really shone. Although Gaze left the band immediately after the albums release to join Kahvas Jute, he returned later the same year, and remained in the group until it disbanded in 1972. Goolutionites is widely recognised as one of the finest Australian prog-psych offerings of all time." - Radioactive.

Artist: YESTER, JERRY & JUDY HENSKE
Title: Farewell Aldebaran
Format: CD
Label: Radioactive
Country: UK
Price: $19.00
"First ever reissue of this cult-classic folk/rock album, originally issued by Straight in 1969. Super in-demand for the last decade plus (even if fucking Christgau gave this one a B+ upon release) and now finally available -- buy it now before the cops show up." - FE. "Timely reissue of this late 60s folk/psych classic from husband and wife team Jerry Yester and Judy Henske. Yester had previously enjoyed an element of fame courtesy of his stint with The Loving Spoonfuls, but following the bands demise in 1969, he set about producing this little gem with acclaimed folk singer Henske and a bunch of pals which were said to have included Ry Cooder and David Lindley. Farewell Aldebaran , which is often heralded as one of the most proficient and creative albums of its genre, with Henskes incredible range of vocal styles (during her short solo career she had effortlessly made the transition from comedian to folk singer and then on to an accomplished rock singer) elevating the album to a higher plane. Her mind-blowing vocals on the opening track, the hard-fuzz Snowblind, gives an early clue to Henskes talent and range, and although this particular vocal style only features on the one song, the sheer diversity of her singing makes every track on this highly original and experimental album a unique experience." - Radioactive.
