Artist: CIRCLE X
Title: s/t
Format: 7"
Label: Poutre Apparente
Country: France
Price: $9.00
"Initially conceived in Louisville in 1978 from the ashes of two local punk bands by Tony Pinotti, Bruce Witsiepe (coming from No Fun) and Rik and Dave Letendre (coming from I-Holes), the band Circle X moved to New York soon after. They encountered there a young german painter, Ralph Neun, linked to the art school of Darmstadt. Ralph Neun was living in NYC for about a year, and decided to record a song evoking the city: Rolling Stones "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)". Ralph Neun booked and financed some studio time and asked Circle X to back him. As a deal, Circle X were free to record one of their composition on the other side: "look at the people". The tracks were recorded at Bayside recording studio somewhere in Long Island during a hot summer day of 1979. Rik Letendre being lost on his way to the studio, Bruce Witsiepe taught at the last minute the guitar riffs of "look at the people" to Ralph Neun who had never played any instrument before. Soon after, Ralph Neun and Circle X parted ways: Ralph Neun went back to Germany and Circle X relocated to Dijon in the center of France following an invitation by French manager Bernard Zekri. While staying in Dijon, Circle X were pleasantly surprised to hear again from Ralph Neun who invited them to participate to a festival organized by the Shvantz fanzine (to which Ralph was contributing). In the meantime Ralph Neun had pressed 200 copies of a 7" featuring the two tracks previously recorded in New York and representing the first Circle X vinyl output. The festival, held in november 79 in Darmstadt, was a multimedia art exhibition covering performance, installation, film, video, and music. Circle X, the only non german act, were performing there together with Bildstörung, Der Plan, Minus Delta T and Mittagspause amongst others. The festival was documented by a xerox catalog corresponding to the fifth issue of the Shvantz fanzine. Each of the 150 copies of the catalog included a copy of the 7". The record slipped into a slot made in the front page of the catalog, was coming with blank labels just decorated with an enigmatic pencil written Circle X symbol, and a plain white sleeve cover stamped with minimal credits. The 50 copies of the 7" left were sold or given without the catalog. We hope you will enjoy this present reissue which is the last missing piece of the puzzle and certainly the lesser known amongst the recent record reissues documenting the early developments of Circle X (check also the 10" "Live In Dijon79" on Fractal records from 2009 featuring unissued demos and live recordings from a concert held at the University of Dijon in 1979)." - Poutre Apparente.

Artist: ICH BIN
Title: Obeis!
Format: LP
Label: Poutre Apparente
Country: France
Price: $22.00
"The brand new parisian label Poutre Apparente is proud to announce the reissue of 90s superb cybernetic electro renewal classic tape from South Corsica band, ICH BIN: Minimal wave beats, broken electronics, radical synthetizer and possessed vocals finely inspired by great philosophical ideas appeared in Europe since the industrial revolution. Colder than the coldest corsican winter, like Kraftwerk meeting Suicide in North Poland. Warehousemen in a secret petrochemical factory in the north of Corsica, the four members of ICH BIN began to play together in 1988 with materials recovered on a failed boat transporting electronic instruments manufactured in Korea. They developed year after year this so particular manner to play and sing probably coming from the physical and mental state of the musicians regularly exposed to a great dose of chemical emanations during their work in factory." - Poutre Apparente.

Artist: PLUS INSTRUMENTS
Title: Februari - April 81
Format: LP
Label: Poutre Apparente
Country: France
Price: $20.00
"On a rainy night in November 1980 Truus went to see Rhys Chathams band in her Hometown of Eindhoven. Never suspecting that this evening would change the course of her life ! She met David Linton who played the drums with Rhys. They struck up a whirlwind friendship. Upon their farewell, David mentioned "come see me in New York". Fast forward two months later and Truus was in New York. Armed with backing track tapes, David and Truus started jamming around in his loft. Soon his roommate Lee Ranaldo joined and a new Plus Instruments was born. Full of enthusiasm and creative energy they started performing. Truus first visit was Jim Fourrats office in the West Village. Jim was taken by this three piece and booked them in various venues. All in a matter of weeks they were in a studio recording this album. During the months of February and April they played everywhere they could, including Europe. It was a short existence, but never a minute wasted ! After April, Lee went on to join Sonic Youth and David continued with his own unique live wired solo electro-acoustic drum kit performances as well as his sound score productions. Truus carried on with Plus Instruments in a variety of line-ups." - Poutre Apparente.

Artist: PULP MUSIC
Title: Low Flying Aircraft
Format: 7"
Label: Poutre Apparente
Country: France
Price: $10.00
⿿Pulp: Low Flying Aircraft is what happens when avant-garde meets punk on neutral ground, a wonderfully delirious disaster area. I love it⿝ - New Musical Express, 1979. ⿿The excellent Low Flying Aircraft ⿿ a single whose potency and raw energy gave the punks a run for their money.⿝ - City Limits, 1979. "This enigmatic 7⿝, released in 1979, is one of the most startling DIY record from this period: it originally comes in a plain white cover with Pulp Music or Pulp written and two signatures, no label but a white pen numbering and an extra hole burned instead. The music was as rough as you could guess from this strict design: a very ⿿intense mix of manic precise percussions together with vocal yelps, grunts and screams leavened with distortion and feedback⿝. The so-called Pulp or Pulp Music (in fact the label name, not the band name) was a London based duo composed of the performance artist Anne Bean and the percussionist and instrument-maker Paul Burwell. Anne Bean has presented solo and collaborative projects incorporating visual art, sound, and performance since the beginning of the 70s. Active on the improvised music scene through the 70s, notably in a collaboration with David Toop and poet Bob Cobbing, Paul Burwell was also one of the founding member of the London Musicians Collective. This duo met several years before the release of this 7⿝ and began to perform in various places until the beginning of the 80s. One of their last appearance took place in october 82 at the occasion of the Final Academy which was intended as a celebration of William Burroughs. During three days, this event featured readings by William Burroughs, Brion Gysin and John Giorno, together with bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Psychic TV, 23 Skidoo ⿦ and a remarked performance from Anne Bean and Paul Burwell as described by Performance Magazine:  ⿿(...) but Burwell and Bean put an incredible show of pyrotechnics preaching, pounding of drums and proclaiming of White mans gotta god complex by the Last Poets. A sample of the late Steve Cripps legacy of explosives had the battery of the exotic snappers, video and super eighters, minor celebs and their retinues, scampering for cover, as Anne bean raged, stamping her feet in the billowing smoke.⿝ Soon after this event, Anne Bean and Paul Burwell extended their duo with sculptor Richard Wilson, to form the influential and much noticed performance group, BOW GAMELAN ENSEMBLE, which lasted until the beginning of the 90s. Sadly, Paul Burwell died on Sunday 4th February 2007." - Poutre Apparente. Sort of unbelievable, "labor of love" reish of this amazing single. Color cardboard sleeve (different than the original obviously) and insert with photos, lyrics, info, etc... Highly recommended! Restocked.

Artist: RUTH
Title: Mon Pote/Mescalito
Format: 7"
Label: Poutre Apparente
Country: France
Price: $10.00
"...you oughta know about this reissue of primo Gallic swoon what was spawned by Ilitch mastermind Thierry Mueller. My details on Ruth is sketchy but I think this follows the Ilitch lp Periodicmindtrouble when Mueller decided to drum up a rock ensemble with Ruth bein the end result. Not sure what they was channelin (or ingestin) but this 7" is as jakeve an example of proto (Hearthan) era Ubu swoggle as Ive ever heard. Considerin this is culled from some 1978 recordings, could it be they was locked into a similar street wave? Hard to know, theres also some aggressive Psychedelic Warlords "thing" goin on too & Francoise Portes vocals (esp. on Mescalito) sound like theys bein blipped in from another dimension. Really, besides Pere Ubu, I cant think of anyone back then KNOWN who was minin a similar shaft in a space/industro/punk vein. This one is impressin the hell outta me. Right up there alongside Angel Face as one of the greatest "lost" French bands of all time. Nice to have it around. Again." - Roland Woodbe, Siltblog.
