Artist: ANIMA
Title: Monte Alto
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $27.00
"Limpe Fuchs is a legend in the experimental music scene. In the late 60s, this percussionist drummed on self-made instruments, together with her then-husband Paul Fuchs, in the Ensemble Anima, working on the periphery of krautrock and free jazz. During that time, Limpe and Paul Fuchs worked with the classical pianist star Friedrich Gulda, as well as with jazz luminaries like Albert Mangelsdorff, and continually attracted the interest of their audiences in new constellations. Limpe Fuchss solo performance with "variable wood and stone rows, ringing bronze in the pendulum strings, and a variety of skin and bronze drums" is a rare occasion to witness one of the early avant-gardists of the scene from the old Federal Republic of Germany. She attempts, while playing live, to develop her musical ideas from the "resonance of the location where the performance takes place" and "to make music in the flow of time, with simplicity and emotion." Her main concern is to sensitize the process of hearing: "Every tone is a sensation. Listening instead of shutting ones ears. Establishing silence." The album Monte Alto was released in 1977 on the band-owned label Alter Pfarrhof. It may be the best Anima album ever, if for no other reason than the wonderful freely improvised piano piece on the B-side. This is the first reissue of Monte Alto, and it is presented in an elaborate silkscreen print, hand-numbered, and limited to 500 copies, co-released by Play Loud! Productions and Youdonthavetocallitmusic. This reissue appears in advance of Limpe Fuchs and Play Loud! Productions release of Limpe Fuchss archival back catalog, along with some previously unreleased recordings and films, and new recordings, and follows many previous Anima/Limpe Fuchs releases that have been made without the permission of the artists." - Play Loud.

Artist: DOC SCHOKO
Title: Schlecht Dran/Gut Drauf
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $22.00
“2009 release. Doc Schoko wrote his first songs at the age of 11. He self-distributed his first releases on microcassette in Germanys most industrialized and populated state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Rhine-Ruhr). A working-class punk rocker who uses the German language ("Some German words are so long that they have a perspective" --Mark Twain) just like his German idols, such as S.Y.P.H., Fehlfarben, Kolossale Jugend, Die Regierung, Ton Steine Scherben, Mutter, NEU!, and Blumfeld. No hipster bohemian attitude, just a down-to-earth understanding of stark, primitive krautrock. On Schlecht Dran/Gut Drauf, some of his heroes shine through, but they never dominate the presence of Doc Schoko himself. Doc Schoko has opened for Mark E. Smith (The Fall); both Smith and Doc Schoko appeared on Silver Monk Time: A Tribute to the Monks (PL 002CD, 2006). The Village Voices Don Allred wrote, "Doc Schokos doom-swallowing “Sei Still” smirks at its English-speaking doppelgänger, “Shut Up." Schlecht Dran/Gut Drauf was mastered by Hans-Joachim Irmler (Faust).” - Play Loud!

Artist: ERICKSON, ROKY
Title: All That May Do My Rhyme
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Play Loud! Productions present the first reissue of Roky Ericksons All That May Do My Rhyme, originally released in 1994. Roky Erickson is a legend. Former member of the 13th Floor Elevators, he was considered the white James Brown. Drug problems and diagnosed schizophrenia made him an outsider. By the 90s, he was struggling to survive on a $200 monthly social security check. In 1990, artists like R.E.M., ZZ Top, and the Jesus and Mary Chain recorded his songs for a tribute album. Erickson performed publicly for the first time in many years at the Austin Music Awards. In 1994, he returned to the studio with guitarists Charlie Sexton and the Butthole Surfers Paul Leary to record All That May Do My Rhyme. This record was released on CD, cassette, and vinyl in 1994 on Paul Learys Trance Syndicate Records. Notes from the original press release: "Trance Syndicate is pleased to present the first studio recording in almost a decade by one of the most gifted, most influential, most inspired singer/songwriters from the Republic of Texas since Buddy Holly. Roky Erickson is back! performing new songs and a few classics in one of the best studios in Texas, backed by some of Texas finest musicians." This is no cheap live tape, crummy reissue, nor a slimy bootleg. This is the real thing." - Play Loud!

Title: Said My Say
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $22.00
“2009 release. Floating di Morel is probably the best rock n roll band to come out of Germany since 39 Clocks. This might sound like overblown hype, but its not; the few critics who attended the bands rare live performances were all flabbergasted. Here are a few reference-points: Suicide, free jazz, Throbbing Gristle, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Big Star, White-Light-hysteria -- stuff Floating di Morel likes but doesnt copy at all. Get ready for one of the strangest and most exciting acts from Berlin.” - "Third album by Berlin rock n rollers Floating di Morel.
Kai Drewitz (ex PLO), Sabine Blödorn and Thorsten Neu (former Kissin Cousins) "sound like Sky Saxon & the Seeds did float, uneffortless, it´s just there as it pops into yr head like a thumb stuck in the mouth."

Title: ULF/FDM
Format: LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
"Play Loud! present the new album from Floating Di Morel and ULF. The band members in their own words: "The new (fifth) Floatin LP is divided in two parts. On one side you hear the last works together with Thorsten Neu, which you know from the records Said My Said (PL 006LP, 2009) and Goal Less Play (PL 034LP, 2013). The other side is a new more electronic experience with ULF."

39 Clocks member Jürgen Gleue about Floating di Morel: " (...) sound like Sky Saxon & The Seeds did float, effortless, its just there as it pops into your head like a thumb into your mouth." Jake Austen of Roctober Magazine writes: "Like a classy Suicide (the band, not the act of desperation) these cats present minimal, chilling music, but wear ties and sweep the warehouse before inviting you over for a bizarre ultra-underground concert." German critic Robert Miessner states: "If Velvet Underground had not disintegrated in 1973 and instead had met with Neu! or Mutes Daniel Miller, they would have sounded like Floating di Morel." - Play Loud!

Limpe Fuchs on Gestrüpp, which was produced and recorded between 2012 and 2014 by Andi Schmid and Hans-Joachim Irmler at Faust Studio: "I am a composer and performer of acoustic and visual events. In the studio I am lacking the visual element. Therefore I like to work with multitracking. As a soloist I listen to my field recordings and integrate them into my new compositions. I do love radio plays and that is how I create a sort of audio theatre with the aid of my very special instruments and noises." Title: The Transatlantic Feedback
Format: DVD
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $24.00
"2009 release. The Monks were five American GIs in Cold War Germany who billed themselves as the anti-Beatles; they were heavy on feedback, nihilism, and electric banjo. They had strange haircuts, dressed in black, mocked the military, and rocked harder than any of their mid-60s counterparts while managing to basically invent industrial, punk, and techno music. The award-winning 100-minute documentary The Transatlantic Feedback not only illustrates the pop music phenomenon in its political, social, and cultural contexts, but also reveals the Monks project as the first marriage between art and popular music, coming months before the The Velvet Underground. The five protagonists of the film came to Cold War Germany in 1961 as soldiers and left the country in 1967 as avant-garde monks. In the film they recount their adventure for the first time. This DVD release (DVD-9; all-region; NTSC format) contains 81 minutes of bonus features, including "Biographies" (Dave Day, Eddie Shaw, Gary Burger, Larry Spangler, and Roger Johnston talk about their origins and musical backgrounds), "A Date with Dave Day" (an introduction to the concept of Monks banjo-playing with Elvis fan Dave Day, the first rock n roll banjo player in history), Monks 1960s appearances on German television (the only 60s performances preserved on film presented in their entirety for the first time), "Live In New York 1999," the documentarys trailer, and live footage of Martin Rev and Doc Schoko. Includes subtitles in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Polish. Includes eight-page booklet containing liner notes by Allison Anders and filmmakers Dietmar Post and Lucía Palacios." - Play Loud!

Title: Live At Marie-Antoinette
Format: Double LP
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $27.00
"The Play Loud! (live) music series is based on three precepts: Alan Lomaxs work as an archivist and chronicler, John Peels BBC radio sessions, and the work of Direct Cinema pioneers, such as the Maysles Brothers, Leacock, Wildenhahn and Pennebaker. Filming live shows means not doing things TV-style, but in a very personal, intuitive and adventurous manner - nothing is staged for the shoot. Play Loud!s intention is it to create an extensive archive of interesting popular music and culture that includes both, the huge quantity of unreleased filmed material by the filmmakers and also material that comes from other sources. Some of the recordings - if popular demand is strong - will be offered as limited vinyl LPs.

Dietmar Post and Lucía Palacios on filming live music: "As filmmakers, it is important the performance we film will be recorded unadulterated. At the same time we do select by positioning and framing the camera, i.e. we watch subjectively. In principle we try to edit inside the camera because we would like to show the presentation in its entirety. It is crucial to know that most of the time we only work with one single camera. . . . Our work turns into an active composition during the show. It could be called a form of drawing (in German the term drawing inhabits the word recording) with the camera. As with all spontaneous/improvised art this sometimes works out nicely, other times it fails poorly."

Dirk Dresselhaus/Schneider TM on the concert: "I find it fairly difficult to say something about how the music in this concert came about, cause we didnt plan or rehearse anything and hardly were able to hear each other on stage. Wherever it came from, the energy and course of this concert is very much based on group dynamics and an almost telepathic sort of communication, like a swarm of fish. When I mixed the sound later on in the studio I discovered a lot of weird things on the separate tracks: for example Kptmichigans guitar signal is changing level for about +/-30 dB once in a while which is a lot and was probably caused by a broken microphone cable. Luckily the fucked up parts made the sound even heavier and more distorted instead of destroying it."

Title: Ende Vom Lied - East German Underground Sound 1979 - 1990
Format: CD
Label: Play Loud!
Country: Germany
Price: $16.00
"Ende Vom Lied is a genre-spanning collection of punk, post-punk and avant-garde bands from the former East Germany, chronicling the work of free spirits pitted against government restraints and implied genre limitations. The underground scene in the German Democratic Republic was a hydra, a noisy mix of musicians, poets, painters, photographers, filmmakers, punks and freaks. In the immediate aftermath of the primal scream that was punk, music often bred with poetry or painting in short-lived liaisons or enduring collaborations to produce a new generation of bastard genres. With the lines blurring between forms, a search for new shapes began. In the German Democratic Republic, this search constituted a tightrope walk, a dance for expression between subculture and a dictatorship. In German, Ende Vom Lied literally translates to "The end of the song", but is more commonly understood as a saying roughly meaning "The upshot", "The end of the story" or simply "The end". Ende Vom Lied features: Ornament & Verbrechen, Grabnoct, LAttentat, Der Schwarze Kanal, 3tot, Der Demokratische Konsum, T42, Happy Straps, Planlos, Sendeschluß, Zwitschermaschine, Aufruhr Zur Liebe, Andreas Auslauf, Rosa Extra, AG Geige, The Local Moon, Fett, Herbst In Peking, Magdalene Keibel Combo, BAADER, Klick & Aus, Der Expander Des Fortschritts and Pffft...." - Play Loud!
