Artist: CARTER, CHRIS
Title: The Spaces Between
Format: LP
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"2018 repress; Grey vinyl. Originally recorded between 1974 and 1978 at Industrial Records studio in London, The Space Between was first released as a 90-minute cassette in 1980 on Throbbing Gristles Industrial Records label. It wasnt until 1991 that it was again released by Mute Records on CD. For those who may not know, Chris Carter is one of the founding members of Throbbing Gristle, partners with Cosey Fanni Tutti (knows as Carter-Tutti and formerly recording as Chris & Cosey) who has been working with sound for over 40 years. Although tracks from The Space Between have appeared on numerous compilations since its release, the album has never been available on vinyl -- until now. This new vinyl edition on Optimo Music, now retitled The Spaces Between, doesnt include all the tracks on the original album but has been enhanced and remastered from the original two-track master tapes and has new cover artwork especially for this release. JD Twitch has this to say about the release: "The original release featured fifteen tracks. As I wanted to have a reasonably loud vinyl pressing, I have picked my favorites to appear here (not an easy task to narrow it down). In addition, there is a bonus track Climbing which was recorded around the same time that was released by Coils Geoff Rushton on his Men With Deadly Dreams cassette in 1981. One of the first-ever recordings to use an 808 drum machine, it still sounds as if it is from tomorrow. In my opinion, these are some of the key recordings in the history of electronic music. They were made using very basic equipment at a time when there was no blueprint for what electronic music could and should be. There is a beauty, an emotion and an imagination present here that is lacking in a lot of modern machine music. This music is as vital and wondrous today as it was four decades ago." All tracks have been remastered by Chris Carter in 2009 for this release. Musically, its an electronic soundtrack for a sleazy sci-fi movie, with moments of uplifting beauty combined with bits of claustrophobic mania. Amazing stuff." - Optimo Music.

Title: A Cold Cell In Bangkok
Format: One-Sided Picture Disc 12"
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $16.00
Single sided 12" single; silk-screened image designed by Lindsay Todd. "I fell in love with Coils music as a teenager in the 1980s. . . . In 2008, Domino Records invited Optimo to put together a compilation of music for them to release. I wanted to include Coils A Cold Cell and after approaching Peter Christopherson for permission to release it he suggested doing an exclusive remix for the compilation. How could I say no? The remix was titled A Cold Cell In Bangkok." - JD Twitch, May 2017.

Artist: DISCONNECTION
Title: Bali Hai
Format: 12"
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $14.00
"Originally released on the mighty Y Records in 1982, this single by Disconnection was a mutant disco cover version of a song from Rodgers and Hammersteins 1949 musical, South Pacific which was made into a blockbuster film in 1958. Vocals by Angela Jaeger. This reissue is presented with the original configuration, with a radio mix, US Discomix and UK Discomix alongside the faux-exotica delight that is the Jaeger-penned "Aaaah."" - Optimo Music.

Artist: MILTON/BLURT, TED
Title: Ruminant Violence
Format: 12"
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Blurt are one of the UKs all-time great acts, phenomenal live and on record and supremely underrated. Blurt mainman Ted Milton is a living legend. In 1984 he released a solo 12", Love Is Like A Violēnce, an accidental dancefloor gem. Dubbed-out stabs, programmed rhythm, trademark sax squeals, and a subdued vocal reminiscent of Vincent Price. Side A presents the A and B side of the original 12". On the B side is "The Ruminant Plinth", one of multiple classic tracks in the Blurt catalogue. Tribal hypno rhythms, chicken wire guitar, sax, and Miltons voice on fire." - Optimo Music.

Title: [Cease & Desist] DIY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era (1978-1982)
Format: Double LP
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
Limited 2016 repress. "[Cease & Desist] DIY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era (1978-1982) collects 15 UK 7" singles recorded between 1978 and 1982, compiled by JD Twitch to showcase the DIY spirit of those times. "If Punk was the nuclear detonation, the fallout that came after was where a lot of the most interesting music of that era was made. People who would never have thought to release a record before realised it was something they could do, and the end result was a DIY explosion. Ive always loved music that doesnt try to fit in a particular genre, that is anti-canonical and doesnt care what else is going on in music at that time, that takes risks and is full of imagination and ideas that may or may not make any logical sense but that resulted in something unique, that ignores conventions about how a record SHOULD be produced and that was created simply because its creators felt the urge to express themselves and share the results with some other people. This compilation compiles 15 tracks that fulfil all those criteria. None of them had any success, most are (unjustly) obscure but every one of them has inspired me and would be in my ultimate 7" singles box" --JD Twitch. This release has been a real labor of love, involving tracing long-lost artists to far-flung corners of the globe, persuading them that the modern world needs to hear the music they made several decades ago, tracking down masters -- lovingly restoring 7"s in place of lost masters in some cases -- and conceiving an elaborate package with detailed sleeve notes to house the double album. Unfortunately, the original choice of title for this release infringed on the copyright of a series of well-known pop compilations released by a certain major label. They sent a cease and desist letter (hence the title of this edition), and did not accept proposed modifications to the original sleeves, so this edition is released in a more conventional package than was intended. Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves containing sleeve notes and detailed overviews of each individual track by JD Twitch and an introduction by New Yorks DIY expert Dan Selzer. Includes tracks by Tesco Bombers, Sara Goes Pop, People in Motion, Nancy Sesay & the Melodaires, The Distributors, Dorothy, Thomas Leer, Visitors, The Murphy Federation, The Cro-Tones, Fatal Microbes, Spunky Onions, The Fakes, and The Prats." - Optimo Musik.

Artist: YATES, JACOB
Title: The Hare. The Moon. The Drone.
Format: LP
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Optimo Music release the new album from Jacob Yates, The Hare. The Moon. The Drone. Not only is Yates one of the labels all-time favorite artists from Glasgow, but he is one their favorite artists from anywhere. Criminally unknown except to a few who have been long transfixed by his recordings and performances, we hope this release will open a few more ears to his wondrous musical world. The Hare. The Moon. The Drone. is the third album from Jacob Yates. This recording finds the band exploring dark hawthorn hedged lanes, moors, and suburban, new build estates. Theres something more earthy about the songs but the menace and darkness remains. Musically there is a big shift on this album, a field recording of a folk band from a dark, pine-filled glen. The opener, "The Car" sets the scene for the rural side of the album, dank and stone cold. The tracks then shift through the woods, people turn into animals, passing a sunlit glade, you will hear a love song. Cassie Ezeji closes the side sweetly lamenting in Gaelic as the snow falls. The second side is a more urban affair opening with despair in a bedroom in Belgium, youll visit a faith healer and drop in on your lonely mother. Lovatt recounts the story of a karaoke-addicted murderer before you finally go home to the new build just outside of town where the pylons tower over Michael and his sister Rachel. Its a journey you can go on, looking out of the window of the bus, glimpses of lives glide by, cards on seats promise to help you. Ding! Its time to get off." - Optimo Music.

Artist: ZUMMO, PETER
Title: Dress Code (Dont Look At My Car)
Format: LP
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"Peter Zummo presents Dress Code (Dont Look At My Car) on Optimo Music. Peter Zummo (born 1948) is an American composer and musician. He plays the trombone, valve trombone, euphonium, synthesizer, other electronic instruments, and also sings. He is associated with the post-minimalist and Downtown aesthetics, and he describes his music as "minimalism plus a whole lot more." Hes well-known for his work with Arthur Russell." - Optimo Music.
"In this project for Optimo, the listener can hear that my musical food pyramid has musicians at top, or maybe they are at the bottom. In any case, they are important. That is why, from track to track, I selected segments in which one player or another is featured in the take. Some may think that we musicians do multiple takes to get the perfect performance, but I like to find the special interactions lurking in each excursion. Different players came forward in each of the takes, which were recorded in the studios Seaside Lounge and Headroom, in Brooklyn, and live in performances at Cube Cinema, in Bristol, UK, as well as in Long Island City and on Staten Island, New York. In order to escape the tyranny of the lyric, I am exploring in this release the possibilities of nonsensical and non-emotional lyrics. These kinds of lyrics bring the singing voices into the mix without an overweening message. The tracks include open-form compositions in which the duration was not specified." -- Peter Zummo, June 2016.

Title: Zummo With An X
Format: LP
Label: Optimo Music
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
Originally released in 1985 in an edition of 500 copies, this is the first time this album has been available on vinyl for nearly 30 years. Peter Zummo (born 1948) is an American composer and musician. He plays the trombone, valve trombone, euphonium, synthesizer, other electronic instruments, and also sings. He is associated with the post-minimalist and Downtown aesthetics, and he describes his music as "minimalism plus a whole lot more." "I first discovered Peter Zummo when I first discovered Arthur Russell. I kept hearing THAT trombone sound throughout Arthurs music and through scanning through various label credits made the connection that this Peter Zummo character was a constant collaborator with Arthur. Zummos trombone sound is one of those things that if I am feeling anxious or pissed off will instantly soothe me and make everything feel alright. So, as well as wanting to hear everything Arthur had touched, I now also wanted to hear everything Mr. Zummo had created too. Its worth bearing in mind that at this point, in the mid- to late 90s, there was almost zero information online about Arthur or his music or his collaborators. The upside of this was that all his records werent too hard to track down and werent going for crazy money. I randomly found Zummo With An X in New York around 1999 and wasnt sure what to expect. I instantly liked the first side, Lateral Pass but side 2s Song IV took my breath away and remains to this day one of my most listened-to records. Despite the minimal elements, I hear more in it every time I listen to it, and sometimes the perfect interaction between cello, trombone and percussion sounds like the voice of Arthur being beamed in from the aether. It is 20 minutes of sheer bliss that feels as if it could go on for twice as long. Unavailable on vinyl since 1985, its a great honor to be making this record available again and I cant imagine anyone with even a passing interest in Peter Zummo or Arthur Russells music failing to be beguiled by this." -Twitch.
