Artist: BABIES
Title: Meet Me in the City
Format: 7"
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
""Meet Me in the City" is the second single from new NYC combo THE BABIES. "Meet Me in the City" and "Somebody Else" are rollicking pop gems, pungent with sweet harmonies, raucous beats, tambourines, skyscraping guitars: the works. Summer dreams, psychic revelry, concrete heat-Babies are born! The individual Babies are no strangers to melodic transcendence, a fact to which their work in psych-pop wunderkinds WOODS and chainsaw sirens VIVIAN GIRLS will attest. Anybody with an ear for indie-pop mayhem had best put their spending shoes on pronto, as these Babies are starchildren of an entirely different breed!"

Artist: BRILLIANT COLORS
Title: Walk Into the World
Format: 7"
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"Make a Mess Records presents Walk into the World, BRILLIANT COLORS second 7-inch for the label, following their four-song 2008 debut. With a handful of singles and an LP on the classic Oakland imprint Slumberland, this San Francisco trio has in the past three years projected a glittering stream of noisy pop gems over the Bay Area and beyond, carving a charmed path through indie melody and bratty punk primitivism. "Walk into the World" shimmers into life with a 60s girl-group swing and timeless pop drama, refracted through a hazy DIY lens, initially curious and ultimately triumphant. "Bad Vibes" turns your world upside-down with a downer dose of delightful disorientation. The 7-inch was recorded by garage punk wunderkind TY SEGALL and will be paired by a single just released by Slumberland. Pick em up!" -Make A Mess

Artist: GRASS WIDOW
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"GRASS WIDOWs debut LP is Make A Mess Records fourth release. This all-girl San Francisco trio borrows some of the aesthetic and sound from early art-punk bands like the Raincoats and blends it with their own unique style. Each song is vocally driven with intricate harmonies over strong melodies. For fans of Nodzzz, Brilliant Colors, Mika Miko, etc." - Make A Mess

Artist: GUN OUTFIT
Title: High Places
Format: 12"
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Olympia, Washingtons enjoying some of the best bands in the country again, and out from the basement comes GUN OUTFITs High Places 12-inch. The groups timeless, dueling guitar work twists and braids with melody around the trading vocalists, hypnotizing a growing legion of true believers stateside and abroad. Guitarists CARRIE KEITH and DYLAND SHARP shred with patience and deliberation, casting spells with the grace and power of Patti Smith or Huesker Due, the lyricism and six-string tenacity of Felt or Television. After last years triumphant Possession Sounds LP (Post Present Medium), High Places is a bright, open page in Gun Outfits continuing songbook. Four songs and an empty room-youll sit close to the needle to put it on over and over again." -Make A Mess.

Artist: KNIGHT SCHOOL
Title: Revenger
Format: LP
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"KNIGHT SCHOOL is a fresh-faced duo (sometime trio) from New York City transmitting mesmeric frequencies like star students of a cassette-pop underworld. Revenger is their second full-length record following 2009s self-released The Poor and Needy Need to Party, and their first for a minor label: San Franciscos Make a Mess Records. Knight School populates gorgeous, entrancing melodies with opaque lyrics that are often bleak, sometimes humorous and often bleakly humorous (sometimes). Their concise songs have a strange air akin to a celebratory sadness, like bounding out of the house in the middle of summer to find yourself in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime snowstorm. KEVIN ALVIR and CHRIS BALLA wrote and recorded Revenger themselves, conjuring epic bedroom hypnosis from acoustic guitars, electric jangle and chime, primitive drum machines, tumbling drum kits and dreamy harmonies (and harmonicas). The album recalls early Guided By Voices, 60s folk-pop wonderment, The Go-Betweens and post-punk-era indie, but casts off into foreign waters on the strength of its own charmingly personal vision." - Make A Mess.

Artist: PROPER ORNAMENTS
Title: Recalling
Format: 7"
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $6.00
"San Franciscos Make a Mess Records ventures across the pond for its ninth release, the debut 7-inch single from Londons THE PROPER ORNAMENTS, on which the English duo offers up two songs of languid drift, rainy-day vibes and ethereal pop power. "Recalling" rides a motorik pulse into dreamy, dimly lit terrain, simultaneously mannered and damaged, melodies moving back and forth between keyboards, guitars and voices. "Are You Going Blind?" is sadder and softer, evoking a classic British pop landscape of gray streets, upturned collars and haunting harmonies. The group shares members with the current goth-tinged, punk-flecked indie pop sensations VERONICA FALLS (7-inches on No Pain In Pop, Trouble Records and Captured Tracks) and the now-defunct SEXY KIDS (7-inch on Slumberland Records). One Ornament also spends time on the other side of the aisle, issuing underground missives with the Germs of Youth record label." - Make A Mess

Artist: RANK / XEROX
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"The debut LP from San Francisco post-punkers RANK/XEROX. The album follows a now-out-of-print four-song 7" and a split cassette with Grass Widow. Their sound is one of post-punk tension, messy but vaguely pop in a fractured fashion, guitar scratchers and synth screamers. The LP inhabits darker, danker spaces than previous recordings; damaged dirges seep out from a confused consciousness and are stared down by obtuse ragers and disorienting excursions into the synth zone. Recorded in a Chinatown dungeon by San Francisco luminaries ERIC BAUER (aka King Riff) and TY SEGALL. " - Make A Mess.

Artist: WHITE FENCE
Title: White Fence
Format: LP
Label: Make A Mess
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"San Franciscos Make a Mess Records (Grass Widow, Brilliant Colors, Traditional Fools) is proud to unleash upon the masses the self-titled debut LP from LA psychpop auteur WHITE FENCE. Wander into the sweltering Cali smog to find yourself transported into a lysergic pop netherworld, where White Fence carves broad strokes of color into your mind. Coming on like Love in a Lollipop Shoppe, or Chris Knox abusing a Vox, the record oscillates between a sun-dappled English meadow, a crumbling SoCal suburban bedroom, and a riotous Sunset Strip leather gang knife fight, with the kind of warped precision and purity that marks the wolves from the sheep and the profound from the pretend in this instant online age. You know what I mean. Connoisseurs of the physical format will be richly rewarded with surgical-grade vinyl and a gorgeous fold-out insert." - Make A Mess. Highly recommended!
