Artist: LYON, NORMA
Title: The Music of Norma Lyon
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"A collection of 16 pieces privately released by Norma Lyon in the late 1960s. All are original compositions for piano and organ. Dark, moody and dramatic, each of these sketches was inspired by a place Ms. Lyon has lived. The tone of the record is set by its fantastic titles, including Flight of the Spirit Geese, Phantom Cathedral of the Sea and Dirge of the Sea Gods. The first side, Dune Sketches, is based on a period when she lived amidst the dunes in southwest Oregon. The second side, Sea Sketches, is drawn from the time she spent living with her twin sister overlooking the ocean in Coos Bay. Limited edition of 500 copies." - Little Axe.

Artist: MAKIRERE, ANNA
Title: Tiare Avatea
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"The lone recordings of teenaged vocalist Anna Makirere of Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Sung in close harmony in Māori Kuki Airan, Tiare Avatea pairs Makireres casual yet masterful vocalizations with virtuoso accompanists. Somewhere between slack-key and flat-picked, the brilliant guitar work is seasoned tastefully with sunburned effects. Translating literally to Afternoon Flower, this radiant collection of originals and traditionals was issued regionally on cassette in 1981. It remains a unique look into Cook Islands sound and style." - Little Axe.

Artist: ONE OF YOU
Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"ONE OF YOU fled the Czech Republic in 1968 right before the Prague Spring. She was filled with hope about her new life in the west, but was shaken by the immense alienation and loneliness of urban life in North America. Her reaction to a new harsh reality was writing these songs, accompanying herself on the synthesizer. She never learned how to compose music developing her own notation and singular style. Side A consists of three self released 7"s from the early 1980s while the B side is a collection of unreleased acoustic demos sung in Czech. Limited 500 pressing." - Little Axe.

Artist: PARIS, TI
Title: Ti Paris et sa Guitare
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"A true masterpiece by one of the legends of Haitian music. The debut album by Haitis favorite troubadour reissued for the first time on vinyl. Beautiful guitar playing with the minimal rhythmic accompaniment of maracas. Haitian blues music at its best. Tip-on cover. Limited edition of 500 copies." - Little Axe.

Artist: V/A
Title: The Sigh of Silver Strings from Suvannabhumi: The Western Stringed Instruments of Burma
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"During the 1800s, various Western stringed instruments came to Burma by means of traders, explorers, and colonizers. These instruments -- the acoustic slide guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, and zither -- were quickly and ingeniously adapted to the intricacies of Burmese music. The music draws from Burmas rich vocal tradition, and the centuries-old royal repertoire of the Burmese harp and xylophone. Recorded and produced by Rick Heizman. Limited edition of 500 copies." Includes 8-page black & white booklet with track notes and photos." - Little Axe.

Artist: WAI, SU
Title: Gita Pon Yeik
Format: LP
Label: Little Axe
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Su Wai is a modern virtuoso of the ancient Saung Gauk, a Burmese harp instrument of both royal and religious significance (fashioned to resemble a leaf of the bo tree which the Buddha attained enlightenment beneath) with roots as far back as the 6th century. In this collection of 8 traditional poem-songs, Wai unfurls clusters of melodic lines alongside a cyclical bell chime-pulse to accompany texts drawn from the Mahagita, a collection of 500 court songs not unlike the British Isles Child Ballads. Recorded in masterful fidelity by Burmese ethnomusicologist Rick Heizman (White Elephants and Golden Ducks, Green Tea Leaf Salad) and presented here for the first time on vinyl, Gita Pon Yeik offers a small window into a tragically under-documented royal tradition that sits comfortably next to both ethnomusicological documents and abstract avant-garde folk forms." - Little Axe.
