Artist: AYLER, ALBERT
Title: My Name Is Albert Ayler
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
“Originally released in 1964, My Name Is Albert Ayler is the debut album by legendary free jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler. Recorded in Copenhagen with a Scandinavian rhythm section, this album sets the stage for the sheer brilliance that was to come. Although the backing band plays fairly straight-ahead bop and feels out of place at times, it doesnt detract from the program as a whole, as Aylers singular sound shines through. This is especially true on the absolutely stunning version of "Summertime." An essential piece of the unique Albert Ayler puzzle, documenting one of the most important jazz musicians of the 20th century.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Title: The First Recordings Vol. 1
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
“Recorded in Stockholm on October 25, 1962, this session is one of Albert Aylers earliest recordings, and features a European backing group he assembled during his brief stay in Sweden before returning to the States in 1963 and beginning his legendary run with ESP-Disk and Impulse! Though his genius is not yet fully formed, one can easily hear hes headed that direction, and this rare and long out-of-print recording is an essential piece of the history of one Americas most uniquely lyrical voices on the saxophone.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Artist: CAGE, JOHN/CHRISTIAN WOLFF
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Belgium
Price: $23.00
"Jeanne Dielman present a reissue John Cage and Christian Wolffs self-titled album, originally released in 1963. This album was an early showcase of both 20th century composerss experimental chops, and is highly regarded as some of their finest work. Cages piece, which spans the whole of the first side, was originally composed in 1960, and like many of his pieces, would never be performed the same way twice. It involves the overlaying of transparencies to create the "score", while performers manipulate phonographic cartridges in a variety of ways to create amplified sound. To add to the effect, this particular performance is actually the superimposition of four performances. In all, it is a truly groundbreaking piece of 20th century classical. Wolffs side, while less extreme, is equally innovative, and a window into his particular pointillist vision of music." - Jeanne Dielman.

Artist: DUBUFFET, JEAN
Title: Expériences Musicales 1961
Format: Double LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Italy
Price: $31.00
“Recorded in Venice in 1961 by the French sculptor, painter, and iconoclast Jean Dubuffet, these recordings were originally released in a hyper-limited 10" box set that is all but impossible to acquire. An early progenitor of the avant-garde and musique concrete, Dubuffets recordings nearly defy category and still sound innovative some 50+ years later. Essential and unequivocal recordings from the founder of the Art Brut movement.” - Jeanne Dielman.

Artist: SHEPP & BILL DIXON QUARTET, THE ARCHIE
Title: The Archie Shepp-Bill Dixon Quartet
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Belgium
Price: $23.00
“Jeanne Dielman present a reissue of The Archie Shepp & Bill Dixon Quartet, originally released in 1962. The debut as a leader for both Archie Shepp and Bill Dixon, two formidable members of the free jazz and avant-garde elite. Rounding out the quartet are bassists Reggie Workman and Don Moore, and drummers Paul Cohen and Howard McRae, each on various tracks. While the album undoubtedly swings, this piano-less quartet definitely prefigures the trailblazing free jazz work the two leaders would be involved in for the remainder of the decade, and beyond. An essential piece of early free jazz.” - Jeane Dielman.

Artist: SUN RA
Title: Blue York
Format: LP
Label: Jeanne Dielman
Country: Belgium
Price: $23.00
"Jeanne Dielman present Blue York, a collection featuring unreleased tracks from Sun Ras Arkestra from 1963. Herman Poole Blount, better known to the world as Sun Ra, lived more musical lives in his 79 years on this planet (and others) than seems possible. In the 30s he was the most rigorous bandleader in Birmingham, heading the Sonny Blount Orchestra and filling every waking moment with music or philosophical discussions, by the 40s he had moved to Chicago and performed with luminaries such as Wynonie Harris, Fletcher Henderson and Coleman Hawkins. By the 50s he had changed his name to Sun Ra and began performing with longtime Arkestra bandmates John Gilmore and Marshall Allen. By the 1960s, Sun Ras vision of spiritual free jazz was fully formed. This collection focuses heavily on the masterful tenor saxophone of John Gilmore." - Jeanne Dielman.

Sun Ra started his own label, El Saturn (or Saturn), to release his own recordings as well as those featuring the Arkestra backing local R&B and doo-wop groups. Though the genres showcased here are more pop than the world has come to expect from Sun Ra, the vibe and feel is purely cosmic, producing some of the wildest, strangest R&B ever created this side of the sun. Essential early Sun Ra performances and productions, 1954-1958.” - Jeanne Dielman.
