Artist: DEEP POCKETS
Title: Bellaire Afternoon
Format: CDR
Label: Hank the Herald Angel Recordings
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Alan R.T. - percussion, piano, horns, electronics.    Aaron Rosenblum - percussion, piano, strings, electronics. Aaron Rosenblum and Alan R.T. performed together for the first time as members of Sapat in 2004, and both currently perform multi-instrumental roles in that bands mashup of jazz, psychedelia and experimental music. In Deep Pockets, both improvise on a narrower range of instruments and concentrate on the intense musical conversation that is made possible by the duo format. Alan is a member of Sapat, KARK, Valley of Ashes, and Boogie Brothers, and is featured on recordings by Rachels and Jackie-O-Motherfucker. He records and performs solo under several pseudonyms, including Arsenio, Raw Thug, and Arthur Kalow. Aaron Rosenblum performs in Sapat, KARK, Son of Earth, Shackamaxon (with members of Double Leopards and Magik Markers), and Pleasant Colony, and has been a guest member of Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice, Sunburned Hand of the Man, and the Cherry Blossoms. He also performs and records under his own name and runs the Hank the Herald Angel Recordings label ( www.hankrecordings.com). Their debut CDr features a slightly condensed record of a single days improvisations on electronics, percussion, trombone, and strings." - Hank the Herald Angel Recordings.

Artist: KREFTING, MATT
Title: Man in Revolt
Format: Cass
Label: Hank the Herald Angel Recordings
Country: USA
Price: $6.50
"When checking if I wrote about Matt Krefting before, I came to the sad conclusion I didnt. Which is odd, since hes closely connected to my beloved Idea Fire Company. Krefting is also a member of many other bands, such as Son Of Earth, Duck, Itchy Pits, The Believers, Destroyer and many more. He plays everything, everywhere and with everyone. Man In Revolt is the total opposite: hes alone at the piano, plus perhaps a bunch of electronics, most likely guitar effects. These are kept however to a minimum, as the main thing is the piano. Its an utter lo-fi, hiss covered tape, but no doubt its intended to be like that. Minor keys are played, while the sustain pedal is pressed down hard to add that darker texture to the music. On the B-side there is a short track Forgets Breakfast which is made with fog horns (or so it seems). Its a great release, along the lines of the recent Graham Lambkin CD, or even Organums recent work (Amen). A pity that its on cassette and not CDR - maybe I could ask for a re-issue?" - FdW, Vital Weekly.
