Artist: DRUMM, KEVIN & JASON LESCALLEET
Title: Busmans Holiday
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"These two titans of noise/improv return for their second release, following 2014s highly acclaimed The Abyss (Erstwhile 073-2). This time they confine themselves to a single disc, making for a very focused and intense listen that will certainly please their fans as well as any fans of immersive and overwhelming dense yet thoughtful sonic explorations.” - Erstwhile. “This album is a meditation on the inner mental environments that one encounters and endures during times of work-related travel. The music contained herein should be well suited for headphone distraction in airports, bus stations, train stations, subway terminals, and in the confines of the sears related to these methods of mass transportation.” - Jason Lescalleet.

Title: The Abyss
Format: Double CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $28.00
"2 CDs, just over two hours of material, including the 33:33 title track and the 49:49 The Echo of Your Past (the latter takes up all of CD 2). After 13 months of creative effort between us, Kevin and I were finally able to call this project complete. 120 minutes of music spread over two discs, The Abyss sometimes feels youve been listening to it for an entire day. Its like staring at the whirlpool of the drain of your bathroom sink, a meditation on circling the drain that we know as The Abyss." - Jason Lescalleet.

Artist: KAWAGUCHI, TAKAHIRO & UTAH KAWASAKI
Title: Amorphous Spores
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Kawaguchi, previously on Erstwhile with Taku Unami (Teatro Assente), is captured here in his first duo meetings with longtime synth virtuoso Utah Kawasaki, making his long-awaited Erstwhile debut. The two recorded in the summer of 2015, combining a sense of “object” performance with an improv/noise aesthetic, all impeccably documented by the aforementioned Taku Unami, and not even slowed down by a massive earthquake in the midst of their session.” - Erstwhile. “The first recording day was at Ftarri, an open live recording. Although there was a big earthquake during the recording session, we kept recording our performances while the room was shaking badly. On the second day, we recorded at pool, creating the atmosphere of an organic reverb driving through the underground drainage tank like a motorbike runs through a mountain path aggressively. The heavy bass sounds of analog synthesizer made the metal walls of the ditch sound amazing. Everything was recorded perfectly by the wonderful engineer Taku Unami. After the session, we went to eat ramen at Maruyoshi Store. I am a kind of person who listens to anything from improvisation, experimental music, hip hop to J-pop of idol singers, but I can recommend this album as something that anyone will find interesting with some strange impression.” - Takahiro Kawaguchi.

Title: Photographs
Format: Double CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $33.00
"Graham Lambkin and Jason Lescalleet stand side by side in the vanguard of contemporary sound exploration. Since the initiation of their collaborative endeavors in 2006, the duo have crafted a nice combination of audio vérité and musique concrète, together building a highly personal body of work. 2008s critically acclaimed The Breadwinner illuminated the artistic potential found in mundane and commonplace circumstances. 2010s Air Supplyshowcased a darker side, nudging the civilian themes of its predecessor into fields of pure abstraction.Photographs brings Lambkin and Lescalleet back again to the questions of self and place. Photographspresents a monolithic reappraisal of heritage, both individual and shared, and reevaluates the geographic and societal influence inherent in formative memory. Recorded in Folkestone, England and Worcester, Massachusetts, Photographs invites the listener to journey through Lambkin and Lescalleets historical registry, places of birth, childhood haunts, locations of enlightenment and kingdoms of despair. Photographswelcomes the listener into the houses and homes of Lambkin and Lescalleets upbringing. Its a meet and greet with family and friends, a traipse through ever-changing street scenes, and a document of a fading static past. But Photographs is not just a memorial to a time long since spent. Lambkin and Lescalleet take you there and back in celebration of their ancestry, breathing new life into each chapter and event. As a survey of origin and a major artistic statement,Photographs proves itself to be a worthwhile investment, and one that brings Lambkin and Lescalleets collaboration full circle. The beginning now knows its end, the final part has fallen into place, a plan has worked well and everything is perfect. Housed in a deluxe UV-varnished 12-panel fold-out digipak, boasting copious site-specific pictorial data,Photographs sets the new gold standard for CD design presentation, and provides the music with lavish adornment. Mastered by Jason Lescalleet at Glistening Labs with a running time of over 95 minutes,Photographs is an audio/visual treasure trove whose richness and detail will give pleasure enough to last a lifetime." -Erstwhile.

Artist: LAMBKIN, GRAHAM & JASON LESCALLEET
Title: The Breadwinner
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Graham Lambkin and Jason Lescalleet are both highly respected artists, with small but intensely hardcore followings. Since 2001, theyve been gradually moving closer towards realizing a collaborative project, and The Breadwinner is the results of two years of recording, reworking and polishing. Lambkin first entered the public consciousness at 19 when he formed his band The Shadow Ring, in Folkestone, a small town in Kent, England. The band was memorable and built an rabidly passionate fan base because of its sui generis approach, blending elements of folk, noise, cracked electronics, and surrealist poetry, while radically changing the overall formula with each release. A decade of increasingly skewed and inspired work culminated in 2003s Im Some Songs, constructed long distance as Lambkin had relocated to the US in 1998. Over the last few years, Lambkin has primarily worked under his own name, most notably with 2007s brilliant Salmon Run, a precursor to The Breadwinner. Lescalleet has gradually and painstakingly built a compelling discography over the past decade. He uses reel-to-reel tape decks to explore the textures of low fidelity analog sounds and the natural phenomena of old tape and obsolete technology. He is one of a growing list of master producer/musicians, whose skill lies as much in reworking, assembling and mastering the material available as in creating it (or helping create it) in the first place. He has worked with such wide-ranging artists as Ron Lessard, Joe Colley and Phill Niblock, and has released a string of superb solo discs in Mattresslessness (Cut), Electronic Music (RRR) and The Pilgrim (Glistening Examples). This is his second release for Erstwhile, after 2001s Forlorn Green (w/Greg Kelley), and his third is already in preparation, a duo with Bhob Rainey, planned for release in early 2009. The material for The Breadwinner was recorded at Lambkins house in upstate NY, over two recording sessions. The duo treated the entire building and its surrounding grounds as a studio, welcoming in outside sounds, which were later kept or eliminated as they felt appropriate. The subtitle on the front cover is ⿿musical settings for common environments and domestic situations⿝, layering numerous submerged fragments to find beauty in everyday life." -Erstwhile

Artist: LAMBKIN/MICHAEL PISARO, GRAHAM
Title: Schwarze Riesenfalter
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Schwarze Riesenfalter, a project Graham Lambkin and I worked on throughout the last year, is now available. One of the darkest, funniest, strangest projects in which Ive ever had a part. Black butterflies, fragmented mouths, dead kings: you get the idea. Fantastic cover art by Graham as well" - Michael Pisaro. Five tracks, 49 minutes, mastered by Jason Lescalleet.

Artist: ROWE/GRAHAM LAMBKIN, KEITH
Title: Making A
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Graham Lambkin first heard Keith Rowes sixties work in AMM as a teenager growing up in Folkestone, a small town in Kent, England, and for him it was very influential. That same year, Lambkin formed his now legendary band The Shadow Ring and Lambkin says, For Darren (Harris) and I, AMM was one of the groups that gave us licence to just do what we wanted, regardless of whether it fitted with convention or employed "accepted" techniques, and did so from a very English standpoint which held great appeal. A decade of increasingly skewed and inspired work by the band culminated in 2003s Im Some Songs, constructed long distance as Lambkin had relocated to the US in 1998. Since then, Lambkin has primarily worked under his own name, both as a solo artist and in duo with Jason Lescalleet. Rowe first became aware of Lambkins work more recently, initially via 2007s Salmon Run, but when the two first met at the AMPLIFY 2011: stones festival in NYC, the connection was immediate. 2012 was spent in preparation and in January 2013 the duo met first in NYC for a memorable live set and then travelled to Grahams house in Poughkeepsie where Making A was recorded. The instant personal chemistry between the two fully translated to their musical relationship, both the similarities and differences seem to perfectly fit. This immediate rapport led to the quickest ever turnaround time from recording to release for an Erstwhile, just 77 days. Both musicians feel that Making A represents something very unusual and unique from their own perspective, and it is also the first release in Rowes close to half century of recording in which he does not use a guitar or a radio. The six panel digipak features combined artwork from the two musicians, joining forces to create a visual whole that parallels the music." -Erstwhile

Artist: YOSHIDA, AMI/CHRISTOF KURZMANN
Title: aso
Format: CD
Label: Erstwhile
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Ami Yoshida and Christof Kurzmann are both well-respected artists within the international community, each performing in a wide range of contexts from abstract to pure pop. Both are best known for their long-running duos, Yoshida for Cosmos (with Sachiko M) and Kurzmann for schnee (with Burkhard Stangl). This project finds them in far less comfortable territory, and a s o is the outcome of two years of hard work. a s o contains recordings from the first meeting of Yoshida and Kurzmann in March 2004. The collaboration was a difficult one, partly because of their wildly different backgrounds and partly because of the communication issues due to their language differences. Four translators helped the project along over the course of the two years it took to make this record (Taku Unami, Toshimaru Nakamura, Yuko Zama and Kae Uchihashi). Although it was a long and complicated journey, the end result is very organic and accomplished. a s o contains an extremely broad range of abstract approaches from both artists, resulting in a wildly different soundworld from any of their previous recordings, and has been beautifully captured as always by recording engineer Christoph Amann. The impeccably minimal yet lush CD design is by Hirozumi Takeda, utilizing images provided by Asuna." - Erstwhile.
