Artist: BLOOD STEREO/HAIR & TREASURE
Title: split
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"First split LP in a brand new series of collaborations, pairing artists working on the fringes - or not at all. This first split pairs Brightons Blood Stereos tape gonk with Hair & Treasures farm life loops. Blood Stereo are Dylan Nyoukis and Karen Constance, a British institution, the sound complete immersion for people who dont immerse easily. Idiot twins Burchill and Slim may behave as though they own Sussex, but Constance and Nyoukis are immune to their surroundings, making livid eyes at confused glitter vixens up and down this squalid Isle. Hair & Treasure are Alex Jones and Gonçalo F Cardoso, a prankster randy dust duo from nowhere dwelling on tape loops and webbed finger piano ballads. The material was culled from a mound of who cares electro-acoustic improv sessions as an offering to the associated deities of the zwieback buttermilk trade." - Discrepant.

Artist: BOSAINA
Title: New York April-July 2013 / Two Names Upon The Shore
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"Collection of two thoughtful EPs by Cairo based artist Bosaina. Bosaina is a Syrian/Egyptian singer, songwriter, and producer known for her work in the Kairo Is Koming collective, as well as her involvement in music-space-turned-club-night VENT. Her autobiographical work takes on a magical insular quality through field recordings and sentimentally driven compositions that unfold in stolen time. On both EPs, presented here, her love affair with cinema, interrupted by decaying urban life -- New York April-July 2013 -- and literature -- Two Names Upon The Shore -- serve as the focal points for her intimate productions; fragmented and wistful soundscapes that combine her affection for the piano with ambient textures from sea-shore to life underground. A unique album to get lost into on long summer nights." - Discrepant.

Title: A Study into 21st Century Drone Acoustics
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $36.00
“Much of the discussion around unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is directed toward its capabilities of surveillance and attack. However for those living in areas of conflict, it is the engine sound of the drones that has devastating psychological effects. Military drones fly at high altitudes and are more easily heard than seen. Even the origin of the word "drone" is rooted in sound, and comes from the sound of the male honeybee. The sound of drones in areas of conflict creates soundscapes of terror that can go on for many hours. The buzzing of the engines has generated nicknames like "zanana" in Palestine and "bangana" in Pakistan. A Study into 21st Century Drone Acoustics is an auditive investigation by composer Gonçalo F. Cardoso (Discrepant) and designer Ruben Pater (Drone Survival Guide). What kind engines are drones equipped with? What do they sound like? What are the psychological effects of the sounds in areas of conflict? Side A features field recordings of 17 drone types, ranging from small consumer drones to large military drones. The B-side presents a soundscape by Cardoso, inspired by the abusive and destructive power or drone technology. The composition focuses on the conceptual (sound) life and death of an aerial drone machine in the 21st century. The project is intended for use in installation in various museums and festivals. The sounds are available for free at droneacoustics.org. Concept by Gonçalo F. Cardoso and Ruben Pater. B-side composition written and composed by Gonçalo F. Cardoso. Voice by Emmet ODonnell. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, Berlin. Metallic finish sleeve by Ruben Pater. Includes 12-page booklet.” - Discrepant.

Artist: CASAS, CARLOS
Title: Pyramid Of Skulls
Format: Double LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
"Inspired by the common task and the people of Pamir in Tajikistan, filmmaker and sound artist Carlos Casas deconstructs far-away sights and sounds to create a unique field recording experiment that equally worships past, present, and future traditions. Nikolai Fedorov thought the Pamir to be the cradle of humanity, the hidden and forgotten nest, a pyramid of skulls that held the secrets of past human kinship. He believed that most of Asian myths of human origin pointed the Pamir region as their inception. For the Chinese, Indian, and Semitic myths, the mountainous region of Central Asia, often referred to as "the roof of the world", was the key to understand his resurrection plan." - Discrepant.

Artist: CHUPAME EL DEDO
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"Chupame El Dedo, from Bogota, Colombia present their self-titled album. Recorded live in the studio, Chupame El Dedo recreates the live performance by delving deeper in grind-core, speed and black metal clichés whilst marrying a tropical rhythm section made of salsa, cumbia, currulao & reggaeton. Tropical disoriented madness, stylistic dislocation and very fast drums." - Discrepant.

Artist: COOPER, MIKE
Title: New Kiribati
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $29.00
"First vinyl release of Kiribati, the first installment in the acclaimed Ambient Exotica Soundscapes series by veteran English experimentalist Mike Cooper. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Edition of 500. "This was the first release on my Hipshot c.d.r label in 1999. I wanted to create an album of imaginary soundscapes from imagined exotic places based on my travels in the Pacific Islands and South East Asia. Kiribati was the first in a series of three CDs of Ambient Exotica Soundscapes -- played on lap steel, electronics, prepared guitar, sampler, live environmental recordings (from Bali, Malaysia, Australia and Italy) and acoustic and electronic percussion. (The other two are Globe Notes and my award winning Rayon Hula.) Kiribati was (and is) dedicated to the people and islands of Kiribati because they were slowly sinking into the Pacific Ocean. Although the palm trees are often 25 metres high, the islands themselves, made from gravel and sand, are only 4 or 5 metres above sea level and a rise in sea levels of just 15 centimetres, as has happened over the past 100 years due to global warming, is a disaster. Kiribati was recorded in my studio on a four track cassette, using a Casio SK1 sampling keyboard. A tool I used for many years both for recording and live sampling." -Mike Cooper.

Title: Reluctant Swimmer/Virtual Surfer
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"The "icon of post-everything", Mike Cooper, returns to Discrepant with a recording of a live set recorded at the Controindicazioni Festival of Improvised Music in Rome in 2003. Originally released as a CDr via his Hipshot label. The music moves very slowly through four movements: "Reluctant Swimmer", "Movies Is Magic", "Virtual Swimmer", and "Dolphins". Praise from an unknown source: "Floating in out of the exotic ether and disappearing like smoke, engulfed in the alien hugeness of nature... a very elegant set by a visionary artist." Mike Cooper on the recording: "The first half is played on my old 1920s National tri-plate lap steel guitar and the second half on my Vietnamese electric lap steel. I also sing two songs along the way. Movies Is Magic by Van Dyke Parks and Dolphins by Fred Neil. It was the first time I had ever sung the last song." RIYL: Exotica, Andrew Pekler, Dolphins Into The Future." - Discrepant.

Artist: DAUBY, YANNICK
Title: Penghu Experimental Sound Studio Vol. 1
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
“Yannick Dauby is a sound artist based in Taiwan since 2007. He relentlessly explores the soundscapes of his adopted island through field recording, audio documentaries, and community projects. He has created soundtracks and sound environments for contemporary dance, public art, and films, and has been involved in various ecological and local traditional activities. Dauby stayed in Penghu, an archipelago located in the Taiwan Strait, during several months in the first half of 2013. His daily activities included beachcombing, study and documentation of the reef animals, field recording, some teaching, and composing musique concrète in a temporary studio, an old building from which he could hear the seashore and announcements of the itinerant sellers as well as the rituals from a temple nearby. Immersed in this environment, Yannick composed the two sides of this record, using the sounds of the underwater fauna, the omnipresent waves, soundscapes of harbors, music played during funerals, shortwave radio broadcasts, in-site or indoor improvisations using old artefacts, and various sessions using analog electronic instruments.” - Discrepant.

Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"Yannick Dauby returns to Discrepant for Vol 2 of his ongoing study of the sounds and sights on the Penghu Archipelago, Taiwan. Penghu Experimental Sound Studio Vol. 2 uses interviews, field recordings, found objects, and subtle electronic manipulation to transpose Yannicks impressions of the islands natural beauty. All sounds, field recordings, and improvisations on electronic instruments, are from Penghu, Taiwan. Interviews of children extracted from the film Childhood Of An Archipelago, by Yannick Dauby and Wan-Shuen Tsai. "ló-kó́͘ -chhù" means "Coral House" in Taiwanese. RIYL: Andrew Pekler, Mike Cooper." - Discrepant.

Artist: DEAD MAURIACS, THE
Title: Beaute Des Mirages
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Mysterious French outfit The Dead Mauriacs return to Discrepant in full exotic wind force after their sell-out cassette, Cocktails Pour La Fin Des Temps (2016). Beauté Des Mirages picks up on the same themes of frantic, abstract exotica and concrete cocktails the French act is known for. Running for two, long 18-minute sides full of fake(?) vintage atmospheres and armchair jungle hallucinations, Beauté Des Mirages is an abstract journey into a beautiful (and sometimes scary) world of mirages. All perfectly illustrated by yet another mesmerizing artwork collage by US artist Evan Crankshaw." - Discrepant.

Artist: GERMAN ARMY AND OLD KOMM
Title: Disquiet
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
“Disquiet is the imaginary soundtrack to the lost 1976 Russian-American dystopian classic. Russian occultists Old Komm collaborate with the south Californian dons of austere electronics, German Army, bringing to life the made-up soundtrack to a film that never was. Disquiet tells the story of a child born to a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, war-torn and fractured by greed. Organ tones and broken exoteric bumps coexist with dark ambient themes and cavernous beats. Remnants of wry memories, smothered dreams, dim visions of a world that never was.” - Discrepant.

Artist: GONZO
Title: Dies Irae
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"Gonzo is musician, DJ and Discrepant head honcho, Gonçalo F Cardoso. Since starting the label back in 2010, Gonzo has released a series of limited collage tapes on the label, Dies Irae being the very first one back in 2012. He now decides to give it the vinyl treatment with specially commissioned artwork from Belgium artist, Elzo Durt. It unapologetically stitches together field recordings, sound generators, random loops and "unfinished" compositions to accompany weird spoken word moments. It kick started the self-penned Gonzo collage style. "Gonzo has created one of the best tapes Ive ever heard, bar none, with Dies Irae. Never to these ears, at least on a cassette, has a collage-style collection of samples and other assorted sounds/noises/atmospheric devices come together so convincingly, as if each element was created strictly to serve the purposes of the end product." - Tiny Mix Tapes.

Title: Radio Kampala/Skull Cave
Format: 7"
Label: Discrepant
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Exclusive limited white label, hand-stamped promo single from Gonzo. Exploring the depths of East African religious beliefs from ancient animistic traditions to the more recent christian evangelic trends. On the B side, a more tongue-in-cheek take on East African dictators advice and other field recording madness. Recorded by Gonzo in Kampala, 2016." - Discrepant.

Artist: JOHNNY KAFTA ANTI-VEGETARIAN ORCHESTRA
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $34.00
"Initially a combination of two of Lebanons most-active and longest-standing groups, Johnny Kafta Anti-Vegetarian Orchestra was founded when Scrambled Eggs (punk rock band founded in 1998) and "A" Trio (free improv trio founded in 2002) joined forces and mixed styles to record Beach Party at Mirna el-Chalouhi in January 2009, combining each trios distinctive sound to create something genuinely new, somewhere between punk and krautrock, free jazz and improvisation. Though self-released and self-distributed in a printed envelope on Al Maslakh sub-label Johnny Kaftas Kids Menu, the 2010 CD received very positive feedback, leading to several concerts in Lebanon under the bands new identity. On one occasion the band was joined by seminal American guitarist and composer Elliott Sharp, and in their European debut, they were augmented by Australian drummer Tony Buck. In August 2012, the band finally recorded this self-titled album, adding a strong element of composition to their usual improvisations to create works ranging from noisy ambient atmospheres to full-energy free rock explosions." - Discrepant.

Artist: KINK GONG
Title: Imer Zeillos
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Imer Zeillos is another unique document of Laurent Jeanneaus collection of surreal soundscapes of augmented field recordings, this time using two very different source recordings to create his own unique brand of alien music. Using contact mic recordings of various Turkish instruments - saz, cura, and tanbur (played by Remi Solliez) - Jeanneau alchemically collages them with his archival recordings of South East Asia to create a surreal space between the instruments tones and resonances with the other-worldly beauty of the field recordings." - Discrepant.

Title: Tanzania
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"Another unique document of Laurent Jeanneau aka Kink Gongs electronic deconstructions, this time stepping away from his usual Southeast Asia area of expertise and releasing some of his first reinterpretations and field recordings made in the late 90s in Tanzania, Africa. "December 1999, Tanzania. I had an appointment with James Stephenson an American friend from the 90s in NYC, he used to skip the American winter every year to be with the Hadzas bushmen and other Tanzanians tribes in Tanzania. Whilst there, James and I lost completely track of time and did not give a shit about what day Christmas was, or New Years for that matter -- with the majority of the planet knowing they were heading into the 21st Century. At some point end of December or early January 2000(?) we asked a group of Hadzas we were hanging out with, whats the date today? None understood the question but one Hadza who had been sent to school in the early 70s answered that we must be in 1975! Tanzania in 1999/2000, this intense trip away from all the millennium bullshit celebrations. I gathered all kinds of sounds, not only music, that expresses proximity and that was the first time I decided I was going to remix those raw recordings into a decent soundscape. It was also the first time I was pleased with the result -- to go into a direction of redefining world music, away from the commercial clichés. This has been the direction Ive taken and focused on ever since with the recomposing of my Asian recordings" --Laurent Jeanneau, Berlin, 2015. Mastered by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering. Cover photography by James Stephenson. Limited to 500 copies." - Discrepant.

Artist: KINK GONG
Title: Xinjiang
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"Kink Gong aka Laurent Jeanneau is a field recording artist based in Dali, China. He spends his time recording ethnic minority music, mostly in Southeast Asia, and releasing the results on his own CDr label, Kink Gong Recordings, as well as occasionally contributing to Sublime Frequencies compilations. He also composes electronic music that includes and transforms those recordings. For Xinjiang, Jeanneau based his soundscape around the recordings he made on a 2009 trip to the frontier region of Northern China, Xinjiang. Spreading from Mongolia to Afghanistan, it is the biggest Chinese province. From various locally made recordings, including Kazakh Dongbra jams, Uyghur Dotar riffs, and various regional radio interferences, Jeanneau constructed a melting pot of ethnic-related weirdness packed with mind-blowing virtuoso recordings. Simple and beautiful, this music makes people fall into visionary reality. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering by Rashad Becker. All tracks were recorded on location in the ILI prefecture, Xinjiang province, China, by Laurent Jeanneau." - Discrepant.

Artist: KYRIAKIDES & ANDY MOOR, YANNIS
Title: A Life Is a Billion Heartbeats
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"A Life Is a Billion Heartbeats continues Yannis Kyriakides and Andy Moors exploration and mining of the rich and mysterious terrain of Greek rebetika music from the early 20th century. Their first release of this project (simply titled Rebetika (2010)) was for the most part taken from a live recording at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, in 2006. In the years that they have been performing the set since, the songs and improvisations featured on this LP have grown and expanded in repertoire and range of expression, giving more space for rhythmic and hypnotic elements to come to the fore. The music ranges from more composed and arranged renditions of the old tunes to completely improvised pieces that try to capture a sense of the gesture and tonalities of the source music, albeit with a contemporary edge. The material derives again from the golden period of rebetika music, the late 20s and early 30s, including voices such as Rita Abatzi, Markos Vamvakaris, Giorgos Batis, and the great guitarist and singer Kostas Bezos. Mastered by Kyriakides. Limited to 500 copies." - Discrepant.

Artist: MERIDIAN BROTHERS
Title: El Advenimiento Del Castillo Mujer
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"Discrepant present a vinyl release of Meridian Brotherss El Advenimiento Del Castillo Mujer. Originally released back in 2006 by Colombian label La Distritofonica as a limited CD-only album, El Advenimiento Del Castillo Mujer showcased a rare style of "abstract folk music" inspired on the experiments of some Bogota collectives from the time (2005-2006). Recorded and composed in Copenhagen between 2005 and 2006 by founding and core member Eblis Alvarez (vocals, guitars & electronics), each song is intended to explore a different energy and mood, from the pure abstract rhythms, to concrete vallenato, cumbia and currulao." - Discrepant.

Artist: PEOPLE LIKE US
Title: Abridged Too Far
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"People Like Us is audiovisual collage artist Vicki Bennett, who has been making work available via CD, DVD and vinyl releases, radio broadcasts, performances, gallery exhibits, and online streaming for 25 years. Since 1992, she has developed an immediately recognizable aesthetic repurposing pre-existing footage to craft audio and video collages with an equally dark and witty take on popular culture. She sees sampling and appropriation as folk art sourced from the palette of contemporary media and technology, with the sharing and cross-referencing incumbent to a populist form. Abridged Too Far is the first of a series of vinyl by Discrepant to celebrate 25 years of People Like Us publishing albums. Abridged Too Far was first released in digitally in 2004 exclusively for UbuWeb, this album includes Vickis session for John Peel and performances for WFMU, amongst others, from 2003. Packaged with brand new artwork designed by Vicki Bennett. RIYL: Porest, Ergo Phizmiz, WFMU." - Discrepant.

Artist: PHIZMIZ, ERGO
Title: Two Quartets
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"Discrepant presents an album from UK-based radio producer, collagist, writer, composer, and filmmaker,Ergo Phizmiz. White label, hand-stamped, limited. Vinyl only. Imagine a machine where any material can be placed before you, and infinitely bent, squashed, stretched, rotated, inverted, repeated, depleted, converted, bastardized, beautified, mortified, twisted, shifted, and at no cost to the original material at hand. This original material, be it a piece of wood, or a piggy-bank, or a toaster, or a dog, can, at the whim of the operator, either be integrated into the mishmash of metamorphoses, or can sit from a distance and look on at all of his transformed clones. The digital sound editing environment, of all the achievements of computing, is the place where dreams can be given free rein. Any sound can be metamorphosed into any other. Anything can dance with anything else, in layer upon infinite layer, and the nature of the object itself can whirl and shift and change and play and do anything it bloody well wants to do. This is something I whiled away ten years playing with, until sound feels like a gelatinous gloop that can be formed between the hands. But then my fingers became sticky. And the only solution to sticky fingers, of course, is to clean them. Consequently, the computer has become like a slightly removed acquaintance cum employee. And, for better or worse, every return I make to the digital music environment becomes overcome with theory, or at least, limitations. The collages included here as Two Quartets are explorations of the pure interaction of four different pieces of music, without any interference as to the nature of the sounds -- nothing has been digitally manipulated. The focus is purely on editing -- both of a technical-musical nature, and games of chance, throwing different materials together in space-and-time and seeing how they party." -Ergo Phizmiz.

Artist: PRAED
Title: Fabrication Of Silver Dreams
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"Founded by Lebanese visual artist and musician Raed Yassin and Swiss musician Paed Conca in 2006, Praed is a band whose music can be described as a mixture of Arabic popular music, free jazz, and electronics. Over the years, the duo has collaborated with renowned musicians from across the globe. Praed explore the terrain of shaabi (Arabic popular music) and its interconnectedness with other hypnotic music genres. Through their research and thanks to numerous concerts in various Egyptian cities, Conca and Yassin discovered a strong cultural connection between shaabi sounds and the mouled music played in religious trance ceremonies. The hypnotizing psychedelic effect embedded in this genre incited Praed to explore other popular music from around the world that also employs forms of sonic delirium -- free jazz, space jazz, and psychedelic rock, among others -- and incorporate these in their own musical concoctions. This is the duos fourth album. File under: dabke, shaabi, Arabic, free jazz. RIYL: Rizan Said, Omar Souleyman." - Discrepant.

Artist: ROBERTSON, DW
Title: Disco Carousel Vol. 1
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"The artist formerly known as Ergo Phizmiz, releases his first work under his birth name, DW Robertson with Disco Carousel Vol. 1, a demented ode to the power of mechanical music. Robertson on the record: Everybody knows that mechanical music is the highest form of entertainment, thats why the fairground, that age old uber-entertainment, rang with the chaotic splendor of Barrel Organs, Orchestrions, Bellenoens and Serinettes. In the 20th century, as the delicate mechanisms of automata fell out of favor to the machismo of electricity, all the music-boxes left the funfair, to be usurped by Euro-techno. Disco Carousel is an attempt to redress this balance with a little bit of time travel, a little bit of TLC, and atomic fusion between the discreet windings of the Pianola and the whirring innards of the computing-machine." - Discrepant.

Artist: ROMPERAYO
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $31.00
"Psychedelic cumbia discharges from Bogotá, Colombia. Romperayos full-length debut reunites Pedro Ojeda (from projects such as Los Pirañas, Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica, and Chúpame el Dedo) on drums, percussion, and timbales; Eblis Álvarez (from internationally-acclaimed bands Meridian Brothers and Los Pirañas) on samplers and synths; virtuoso organist and pianist Ricardo Gallo on synthesizers; and renowned bassist and composer Juan Manuel Toro on bass. Romperayos sound is a fast-moving musical journey through Colombian tropical folklore, a mischievous modern interpretation of the up-tempo rhythms of descarga and the psychedelic sounds of 70s cumbia. By cleverly incorporating urban sounds and sampling techniques into the tropical music of the past decades, Romperayo embodies Colombias modern folklore scene. Artwork by Colombian artist Mateo Rivano. Cut and pressed at Optimal." - Discrepant.

Artist: SAID, RIZAN
Title: King of Keyboard
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"LP edition of Rizan Saids King of Keyboard, originally released as a CD by Beirut-based Annihaya Records in 2015 (END 011CD). Reissued by Discrepant in collaboration with Annihaya. There is no other Syrian dabke musician that has enjoyed the local, regional, national, and international recognition that Rizan Said has, and for that, the world is lucky. Rizan is a musical ambassador from a disappeared Syria, and this is not to be taken lightly. Once upon a time, not too long ago, Syria was a culturally diverse country possessing a certain unity. A place not synonymous with barbarism and savagery. Far from the capital of Damascus, the northeast of the country, known as the Jazeera, was rich with history and culture. Rizan was a musical prodigy from a young age -- a gifted player of percussion and reed instruments before a wealth of synthesizers began flooding Syria in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Steadfast on the Syrian cassette album circuit at the time, Rizan the boy wonder was already sending his signals out from the Jazeera frontier, thanks to a partnership with local producer Zuhir Maksi. It can be said, that without Rizan Said, a good number of Syrian singers from the 1990s onward might never have been heard -- most notably Omar Souleyman, a collaborator with Rizan for two decades. Where synthesizers can bring a certain artifice and death to the sound of music, Rizans torrential speed and flair on the keys bring new life to Syrian and Kurdish sounds -- lightning fast as required -- respectfully forcing the component sounds of folkloric dabke into the next level. This is the updated sound of the ages, where hand drums and reed flutes are now emulated and pounded out on Korg keyboards --Mark Gergis, April, 2015. RIYL Omar Souleyman, EEK." -

Title: Um Piano nas Barricadas
Format: LP
Label: Discrepant
Country: UK
Price: $29.00
“Since his first release (2006s Crepúsculo), pianist and composer Tiago Sousa has been consistently developing his very own aesthetic; through his relatively large body of work, one can identify an artist on the search for his own expression and identity. Um Piano nas Barricadas ("A Piano in the Barricades") follows three largely successful endeavors, all centered on the piano: Insónia (2009),Walden Ponds Monk (2011), and Samsara (2013). In the time between those works and Um Piano nas Barricadas, Sousa composed the score for the 2013 Portuguese film Bibliografia (included here) and the large-scale theater piece O Coro das Vontades, which premiered in 2012. Um Piano nas Barricadas is another development in this unique body of work by one of the most interesting and intriguing musicians to come out of the burgeoning Portuguese music scene, cementing his place as one of the most distinct voices in piano-driven minimalism. Includes collaborations with Tó Trips, Ricardo Ribeiro,Balthazar Molina, and Rebecca Roth. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Edition of 500.” - Discrepant.

“Antologia De Música Atípica Portuguesa ("Anthology of Atypical Portuguese Music") is a series focusing on new strains of Portuguese music with an (un-)characteristic foot in past musical traditions of the country; The aim being to re-evaluate its musical history, deconstruct clichés and re-assemble preconceptions into a new and daring musical landscape. Each volume will have a loose theme and will be comprised of Portuguese artists working on the fringes and not following obvious and commercial paths of musical homogenization. Vol. 1 explores o Trabalho ("work") - various work songs both at land and sea are freely reinterpreted in a multitude of ways. Including the vocal tape deconstructions of Live Low, the ethereal pastoral drifts of Negra Branca (Marlene Ribeiro from Gnod), free jazz experimentations of EITR (Pedro Lopes and Pedro Sousa), as well as a very rare solo outing by one half of Yong Yong, Luar Domatrix (Rodolfo Brito). Also featuring on Vol. 1 are the digital voice manipulations of Tiago Morais Morgado, visceral guitar exorcisms by Filipe Felizardo, exoteric chants by Gonzo, Calhau!s mystic reinterpretations of lost pieces, and an exclusive composition by musician and instrument builder Peter Forest (Pedro Silva) dedicated to a long lost field working mans song, Maria Cavaca. RIYL: Sublime Frequencies, Folkways.” - Discrepant.

"Visions Congo is yet another moniker from Discrepants head honcho, Gonçalo F Cardoso, taking Africa as a starting point to evoke the memories and re-imagined experiences of his six-month stay there in 2015. Most of the recordings and compositions were done in the great lakes of the African regions of Uganda, Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and the island of Zanzibar. Mulago Sound Studio is a series of surreal and augmented field recordings that try to brace the listener with fresh alien authenticity before toying, very pointedly, with antiquated constructs by mixing avant-garde dustbin synth music with concrete field recordings and humorous, tongue-in-cheek intersections -- never to be taken too seriously. Equipped with a brand new art collage by US artist Evan Crankshaw. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering by Rashad Becker." - Discrepant.
