Title: Nova Popularna
Format: LP
Label: Decemberism
Country: Germany
Price: $30.00
"The first release on Decemberism records is a document of the temporary bar that the artists Lucy McKenzie and Paulina Olowska ran for one month in Warsaw, 2003, in collaboration with Foundation Gallery Foksal. In a limited release of 1000, with extravagant pop-up gatefold sleeve, the LP presents the music of: donAteller, Bianca Glazebrook, Mathilde Rosier, Nightshift [forthcoming release on Kompakt], Marcin Dutka. All of whom played live in the illegal salon, many performing material specially written for Nova Popularna. An eclectic mix including house, show tunes and prepared piano, the record reflects the amalgam of finesse that was that place. donAteller is an ongoing collaborative project from London. The work comprises records, CDs, live performance, video, various forms of publicity and other strategies associated with the promotion and distribution of pop music. All tracks involve the re-editing and mis-matching of popular melodies and lyrics. donaAteller are, were, or have been, at various times Ed Liq, Mark Leckey, Bonnie Camplin and Enrico David. They have released CDs, artefacts and 7?s through High Society Records, Cabinet and GBE.  Bianca Glazebrook was born in 1975 in London. She studied vocals at the Warsaw Academy of Music, graduating in 2000.  Biancas repertoire is a mixture of classical jazz, blues and cabaret songs, which she performs in galleries and salons in Warsaw and London. She also performs with experimental audio-visual group RH+, whose first recordings are to be release soon.  Mathilde Rosier lives and works in the rural outskirts of Versailles, devoting her time to filmmaking, painting and song writing. Her work featured here was performed live as a duet with a hidden piano which emanated from behind a curtain, actually generated by a soundsystem.  Nightshift are the Berlin artists Makus Selg and Marcel Hüppauff. Their music blends samples from Ibiza house, soul and cock rock with vocals, performed in a ravishing style. Releases include on their own Parfüm label, through L`AGE D´OR / LADO Musik and we currently await the Christmas 2004 release of their first album Still Crazy After All These Years on DIAL records.  Marcin Dutka was born in 1974, and studied painting and mural design in the Academy of Fine Art in Warsaw, finishing his MA degree in 1999. Since seven years old he had taken violin lessons, but when twenty he decided to concentrate on investigations in music with piano. He uses piano as a whole body instrument. He still works in fine art, painting and music and often combines all of the above. Some of the recorded concerts include: Teatr Studio, â Szpachla na Fortepianâ 2004, Kielce â Preparated Pianoâ 2003, Marcin Dutka also makes music for short length feature films.  Decemberism is a label based in Glasgow devoted to new music and the spoken word. Particular attention to detail is given considering vinyl LPs and their attendant sleeves as objects of beauty. Upcoming releases for 2005 include Cosey Fanni Tutti, Lucy McKenzie and Paulina Olowska, Bonnie Camplin, Alasdair Gray and Joanne Tatham and Tom O Sullivan." - Decemberism.
