Artist: AKIYAMA, TETUZI
Title: Pre-Existence
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $26.50
"Tetuzi Akiyama has been a major player on the free music/improv scene in Tokyo for going on 20 years. Pre-Existence first came out on CD as a part of the great Wooden Guitar series from Locust. Akiyamas playing here is one of a minimalist approach, discovering and investigating the empty spaces between each note. He does not follow the Takoma guitar school style of finger-picking, but a far more warped primitive country blues feel, with a meditative quality. You never know where you are going to be led with his guitar, down roads rarely travelled. With his dense tapestry of sounds, Akiyama evokes emotions that at times are uncomfortable, but of real beauty. Open your ears and let the music take you far far out there..." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: AMBARCHI & ROBBIE AVENAIM, OREN
Title: Dream Request
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"Bo Weavil presents a sublime duo recording from old sparring partners Oren Ambarchi and Robbie Avenaim, recorded live in Tel Aviv in 2009. This is a single edit of the performance which perfectly captures the chemistry between Robbies busy percussive maneuvers and Orens textural overlay. A previous performance of the pair was documented on the Clockwork CD (re-issued by Room40) and prior to this the notorious The Alter Rebbes Niggun CD was released on Tzadik. Here, the two come together with an energetic performance of free interplay. Steeped in rock, electronics and feedback, the duo conjures an ecstatic instrumental journey. Momentum builds while shifting around a variety of sonic styles until the entire patchwork is laid bare, exposing all the nuance within. Edition of 350 numbered LPs, housed in a heavyweight silkscreened sleeves." -Bo Weavil.

"Limited vinyl by the great experimental guitarist Oren Ambarchi from Australia. A Touch label recording artist, Oren has been making music since 1986, creating sounds from the guitar that one would not expect to hear. On this LP, two long tracks one per side, start from minimal low frequency sounds to ever growing drones of manipulated guitars... staggeringly beautiful! Limited to 650 hand numbered copies!" - Bo Weavil.

Artist: BERNING, DALE
Title: The Horse Stories
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"The Horse Stories is the soundtrack to Going Places Sitting Down, a film by Hiraki Sawa, commissioned by the Hayward Gallery and Bloomberg London, for Waterloo Sunset, the Dan Graham Pavilion at the Hayward in November 2004. It is a piece about make-believe journeys to far-away places (at the tips of your fingers, between the cracks in the floor at your feet, on the edge and behind the door, right here where you are, close-by...) For the soundtrack Dale used sounds belonging to the country house and garden in which Sawa filmed - water running in the upstairs bathroom; rain water dripping on the stones outside the kitchen door, sparkling water in a glass on the table, the wind-chime and the clock and the record player... And then the sounds of music boxes being played - one elaborate antique music-box with bells the shape of bees and a miniature hollow drum, and other simple music boxes, playing only one tune each, tiny naked metallic combs and drums and handles. At the core of all Dale Bernings sound work lies a deep interest in ideas of aliveness, of space and the awareness of time passing, of breathing and being still and of listening. And of the possibility of grace. 180g hand numbered limited edition." -Bo Weavil

Artist: BLACKSHAW, JAMES
Title: Sunshrine/Celeste
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $32.00
"Bo Weavil Recordings is proud to release onto vinyl for the first time Englands James Blackshaw. An acoustic folk guitarist who takes his primary cues from the holy trinity of the near mythical -- John Fahey, Robbie Basho and -- along with recent adherents to the weird Americana / new folk sound, Jack Rose. Blackshaws twelve-string guitar resonates to produce unbridled raga-like flurries, bursting with energy, yet harnessed with enough melodic definition to their fluid motions. On Sunshrine (side A) and Celeste (Side B) James does a brilliant job of bringing together his skill on the acoustic guitar with a talent for melding soundscapes and drones into coherent compositions. He uses his 12-string guitar and open tuning to create some wonderful passages of beautiful folk guitar. James Blackshaw plays 12-string & 6-string guitar, sarod, harmonium, Farfisa organ, glockenspiel, bells & bowed cymbals. 180g limited 500 hand-numbered pressing." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: BORN HELLER
Title: Born Heller
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $26.50
Limited LP version of this album, previously released on CD by Locust. Numbered edition of 550. "Born Heller are the folk duo of Josephine Foster & Jason Ajemian. They beautifully capture the traditions of both American and English folk, with Josephines hushed fragile vocals accompanied by sparse melodic guitar lines and Jasons resonant bass sounds. Ajemian plays in groups like Triage, Dragons 1976, and with reedist Matt Bauder. While Foster may be familiar to record buyers for her own solo recordings and others with the Supposed, her psych rock outings. Born Heller is music that needs to be intently listened to, on each listening more and more is unearthed." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: BRIGGS, ANNE
Title: Sing A Song For You
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $26.50
Deluxe LP version of the Fledgling CD from 1996. "Fleeting, volatile, flighty, breathless: a flash of sunlight in the glade. Anne Briggs pure, unmistakable voice and her too-short career summon the same images in my mind. A voice like a gentle tremor, as fragile and timeless as a dandelion clock. Her recordings are few and all the more precious for it. When these 1973 sessions finally saw the sunshine, back in 1996, they were greeted with joy; joy mixed with astonishment that they should have been consigned to obscurity in the first place. Sure, her work with Ragged Robin may have displeased the purists of the time. Sure, Anne Briggs was unhappy with her voice, heavily pregnant with new life and on her way to a Scottish retreat. But for something so beautiful as these songs to be casually put aside... and they are beautiful. Sunshine and time: flitting snatches of melody heard floating across the meadow on some impossible summers day. Songs that are ancient as the bones of the hills - yet half are Annes own compositions. The distillation of a unique talent let fly like a butterfly from the hand." - Bo Weavil.

Title: The Complete Topic Recordings
Format: Double LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $43.00
"Bo Weavil is ecstatic to release a double LP on heavyweight vinyl of the Complete The Topic recordings, beginning with Annes contribution to the folk epic The Iron Muse (1963), followed by her first solo release - the legendary Hazards of Love EP (1964), songs for The Bird In The Bush - Topics erotic song project (1966), and finally the eponymous Anne Briggs, not released until 1971, tell the tale of her hobo 60s. Travelling in Ireland with Sweeneys Men until success got in the way, sleeping on the floor of the late Gill Cook, manager of Collets folk department, living in a caravan in Suffolk, Anne was a wild, free spirit, unconcerned with the commercial success of her peers. Two further recordings for CBS, The Time Has Come and Sing A Song For You (unreleased at the time) followed before Anne disappeared to her Hebridean retreat and that was it. Anne Briggs summed up in her voice, in her attitude to life, in her looks, that brief sunlit period of the folk revival perhaps better than any of the other great singers - Shirley Collins, Sandy Denny, Jacqui McShee that came from it. Theres a deep magic at work in these unadorned, unaccompanied songs - an ancient, spine-chilling voice from the traditional heart of England that speaks through the young and beautiful form of Anne Briggs even to us - misfits of our technological world." - Bo Weavil.

Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $29.00
"A collection of British songs about love, adapted and sung by Shirley Elizabeth Collins of Sussex, England; with guitar and five string banjo accompaniment by John Hasted, Ralph Rinzler, Guy Carawan and Miss Collins. False True Lovers was Shirley Collins first full length album, recorded in London by Alan Lomax and Peter Kennedy and released on the prestigious American Folkways label. Title: The Sweet Primeroses
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $31.00
"Bo Weavil is yet again proud to be releasing more of one of the greatest English folk singers, with the Topic Records The Sweet Primeroses LP released in 1967. Those unfamiliar with the topography and historical geography of the SE of England probably picture bland, flat, grassy country - over-farmed, distorted, contorted by man - a land with no bones and no secrets. Anyone who has walked at dusk through the dark hollows of the ancient Weald or, with a stiff sea-breeze, on chalk downs in the footsteps of prehistory knows different. Shirley Collins music, particularly where accompanied by the sonorous arrangements of sister Dolly, exemplifies this ambivalent environment of her ancestors. Born and brought up in Sussex, Shirley and Dolly were surrounded by song. The hymns and ballads of the countryside sung in church or in the air raid shelter, the songs, collected by Cecil Sharpe, sung at school. In the Collins family existed an echo of that tradition which had mostly disappeared by the 1950s, the ancient and wise tradition of song. This true folk music, like true poetry, raises the hackles on the back of your neck in acknowledgment of some ancient, almost forgotten truth." - Bo Weavil.

Title: Back Porch Hillbilly Blues Volume 1 & 2
Format: Double LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $35.00
"This is the limited (500 copies ) double vinyl pressing of avant-hillbilly master fiddler Henry Flynt, originally on Locust, as two separate CDs. Flynt scuffles through a most peculiar set of electrified and acoustic bumpkin fiddle howls and screeches circa early to mid 1960s. From the enviable opening echo rock, in which Flynt does his best to compete with the electro-echo buzz of a Jorgen Ingmann or Link Wray to the beauteous instrumental glow of the extended modal country jam of Jamboree, Flynt proves once again that his is not a music simply rooted in the taut belt of New York isms, schisms and jisms. This is music that howls from a unique voice whose love for the folk songbook (known and imagined) is as resonant as a cowbell and as deep as a freshwater." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: FOSTER, JOSEPHINE
Title: This Coming Gladness
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"This is Colorado-based Josephine Fosters (Born Heller, The Supposed) debut release for Bo Weavil Recordings, and her third full-length album. This Coming Gladness is the highly-awaited follow-up to 2006s A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing on Locust. This Coming Gladness is transcendental fin de siècle songs from one of the great unsung voices and songwriters of our modern times. Josephine Foster unites rarely united royal realms: self-penned operatic art songs cast in freely-rendered blues with electric guitars and drums beating the path along with harp and piano flourishes. She has a voice that was trained for opera, but creaks like ancient mountain folk floating out from a dusty Victrola. She surpasses any "weird-folk" labelling through the sheer timelessness of her songcraft -- making baroque balladry sound new yet remembered from some not-too distant shared American past. Joining her on this recording is electric guitarist Victor Herrero and drummer Alex Nielson." - Bo Weavil

Artist: HOLCOMB, ROSCOE
Title: The High Lonesome Sound
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
"The third release from London based label Bo Weavil Recordings, goes further into the depth of traditional American folk music with the legendary Roscoe Holcomb performing 17 powerful songs shaped by the hard times and conflict between old and new that marked his life in the rural Appalachian mountains. The sounds on this record were collected 40 odd years ago. Sometimes when you listen to Roscoe Holcomb sing it mightve been 400 years ago. Sometimes it could be happening to you right now. These songs and instrumental pieces go back to the 20s and 30s and beyond, into the mists of pre-recorded time. They are the traditional songs of the Kentucky mountains before the advent of radio and record player when itinerant musicians, market places, church and country fair were the conduit of tradition. But these songs, recorded in the unique high and lonesome style of Roscoe Holcomb, were the last folk songs. Already, 40 years ago, Holcombs music was not appreciated in his own community. He was a throwback, a dinosaur in the age of the Twist. A singer with a truly high lonesome sound that sends shivers down the spine, and a hard-hitting wonderful banjo-player/guitarist. This LP also contains Roscoe performing unaccompanied ballads, banjo and harmonica solos. These recordings were previously released by Folkways in 1968 that had a powerful influence on the folk music revival, and has been crying out for a new vinyl release. Accompanied by some of the original notes on the lyrics and history of each song and some new comments on Roscoe in 2005." - Bo Weavil.

Title: The Blark Ark
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Its no understatement that The Black Arc is one of the most sought-after underground free jazz releases of all time. The original Freedom vinyl LP and the brief Japanese CD reissue were criminally out-of-print and impossible to find. Both versions popped up on internet auction sites once in a blue moon but when they did they always fetched insanely astronomical prices This record simply is THE BOMB -- a perfect combination of Noahs soulful compositions and playing, infused with plenty of sweet/sour/in/out forms and shapes from the incredible line-up assembled for this release. Plus we get to experience Arthur Doyles outrageous debut on a recording session, increasing the playing and feeling to an intense level throughout. And dig the spaced out afro-delay on Jumas percussion (yes, that Juma from Hendrixs killer Woodstock show of the same year). All of the players on this record combine to make it a CLASSIC and its esteemed reputation is well earned." - Oren Ambarchi

Title: The Wild Wild Berry
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
"Limited to 350 copies. This is the first recording for Bo Weavil by English folk singer Stephanie Hladowski, coming together with regular recording artist, C Joynes. The Wild Wild Berry is a highly individual record that accents both of their respective styles. Chris melodic beauty is equally matched by Stephanies turn of phrase. The album contains their renditions of 11 British traditionals, some better-known than others. All the songs were mostly selected from archive recordings at Cecil Sharp House, and chosen on the basis of something unique about the original recording, rather than the song itself. Nothing about the record is a let-down -- the simple melodies and powerful authority make this a recording that one will play a thousand times over." - Bo Weavil.

Title: God Feeds The Ravens
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"An exciting new release on Bo Weavils Wooden Weavil series. English acoustic guitarist C Joynes, a resident of Cambridge, has released a few self produced excellent CDRs. Joynes uses a heavy thumb-led finger-picking technique that harks back to traditional country blues and early ragtime, however, he uses this technique to explore alternative melodic traditions: the English folk-tune; North and West African music; elements of classical Indian music; proto-minimalist and impressionist musics from the European classical tradition. His approach to the recording and compositional process contains a subtle and unassuming experimentation, at times including collaged fragments, field recordings, processing, en-plein-air recordings, and cut-and-paste. The version of Since I Lay My Burden Down incorporates variations on lyrics and vocal lines drawn from a different song entirely. He has a penchant for reworking over-familiar pieces and stripping them of their kitsch and cliché, presenting them afresh, such as with Christmas Medley, the arrangement of A Night In Tunisia, and the gospel-based And When The Sun Begins To Shine. Joynes music is instinctive, well-researched, placid, and evokes a certain simplicity and naiveté."-Bo Weavil.

Artist: KRAUS, SHARRON/MEG BAIRD/HELENA ESPVALL
Title: Leaves From Off the Tree
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $19.00
"Bo Weavil is so excited to be releasing Leaves From Off The Tree: a three-way project of Sharron Kraus, Meg Baird (Espers) & Helena Espvall (Espers). This is a beautiful recording of traditional folk material, with the most stunning singing and arrangements of some of England and Appalachias finest songs. The songs on this record were recorded after many an evening swapping songs (and beers!) in Fishtown, Philadelphia, where Sharron had moved from her native England, and Meg and Helena were already installed. Meg and Sharron both had traditional music backgrounds and would meet up and teach each other Appalachian and English ballads, and improvise harmonies and alternate melodies. At some point, Helena was invited along and her voice and cello added a rich new layer. We wanted to record the songs in a way that would capture the relaxed atmosphere of our gatherings, so we recorded all nine songs live in one afternoon." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: MCPHEE AND JOHN SNYDER, JOE
Title: Pieces of Light
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"First time vinyl reissue of Joe McPhees classic CJR LP from 1974. Repress of the original artwork. Another reissue of ultra-rare, 70s McPhee vinyl. In 1974, Pieces of Light was recorded and released by the CJR label. McPhee had picked up on the growing electronic music movement, and recorded a set of duos on saxophone, trumpet, E-flat alto horn, flute, modified Nagoya harp, chimes and voice with John Snyder, who played an ARP analog synthesizer. The result is a stunning six-part meditation on how best to combine acoustically and electrically-driven sounds. McPhee at times anticipates and complements the limited wave forms of his playing partner, but the two dont try to mimic or play on top of each other. They shift, meld, and counter each other. McPhee at times plays extremely jazz-tinted phrases, in alien vistas created by Snyders synth, without ever coming off as quaint. Definitely something a little different from the fire music of the time. Joe McPhee (tenor saxophone, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, alto horn, flute, chimes, harp, voice); John Snyder (synthesizer)." - Bo Weavil.

Title: Underground Railroad
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"First time vinyl reissue of Joe McPhees classic CJR LP from 1969. Exact repress of the original artwork. Trumpeter and saxophonist Joe McPhees first album,Underground Railroad, has been virtually impossible to find on vinyl, issued in an edition of 500 copies onCraig Johnsons CJR label -- it was recorded next to Johnsons house at the Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, New York. It sold out and was never reprinted on vinyl until now. Underground Railroad is comprised of three pieces, the title-track, "Harriett," and "Message from Denmark." The band features McPhee on cornet, pocket trumpet, and tenor, Reggie Marks on tenor, soprano, and flute, bassist Tyrone Crabb, and Ernest Bostic on drums, and is a scathing fire music release. There are wild, ecstatic interactions between McPhee and Marks, while the rhythm section harness the moaning, screaming, crying, and wailing done by the front men. On "Harriett" and "Message from Denmark," the music takes on a decidedly more spatial feel. This is McPhee at the height of his powers of improvisation and composition. As far as vintage ecstatic free jazz goes, it doesnt get much more nail-biting than this. Limited to 500 copies. Joe McPhee (trumpet, pocket cornet, tenor saxophone); Reggie Marks (tenor and soprano saxophone, flute); Tyrone Crabb (bass); Ernest Bostic (drums, percussion, vibes). Recorded on April 13, 1969, West Park, NY." - Bo Weavil.

Title: Nation Time
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"First time vinyl reissue of Joe McPhees classic CJR LP from 1970. Exact repress of the original artwork, limited to 500 copies. "What time is it?" Joe McPhee shouts at the opening of this classic LP. Time at last for a vinyl reissue of the highly sought-after, ultra-rare Nation Time. Why this wasnt done years ago is anyones guess. Nation Time catches the exuberance of the master in his youth, playing a glorious to-the-wall mixture of R n B and free jazz motifs, with a great deal more thrown into the mix. Two of these three long tracks were recorded at a concert at Vassar College on December 12, 1970: "Nation Time" and "Scorpios Dance." Featuring the electric piano of Mike Kull and the relentless percussion of Bruce Thompson and Ernest Bostic, there is a definite hint of rock. On Nation Time McPhee also plays with a burred R n B tenor tone elastic enough to blend with the searching, spaced-out solos from Kull and McPhee himself. "Shakey Jake," recorded in a studio the next day, adds an alto saxophonist, an organist, and an electric guitarist, and is far and away the full-on dancefloor cut of the LP. Free at the fringes, booty-moving at the core. Call it what you want; free jazz, free-funk, fire music, or simply great music." - Bo Weavil.

Title: Trinity
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"First time vinyl reissue of Joe McPhees classic CJR LP from 1972. Recorded on November 28, 1971 in the Parish Hall, West Park, New York. Exact repress of the original artwork. This excellent trio recording of blues-inflected out-jazz from 72 follows up on the hugely successful Nation Time, which was actually recorded a year Later. McPhee says it was not only a turning point in his music, but a turning point with his tenor sax as well: "With Trinity, I began to feel more comfortable with the instrument. Not having a bassist also removed me from a normal jazz context, let the music just be what it was... The larger space provided by the trio gave me more time to explore the instrument, the colors became more clear, the area I wanted to work became more defined." Even for Joe McPhee, Trinity is a far-reaching record, as broad as you can possibly imagine. McPhee delivers animalistic howls, plaintive melodies, and bluesy ramble. The group sound spans from free-range "space" music with vocals to high-intensity energy laid down over kicking drums. Each duo combination is explored at length, winding in and out of trio improvisation. Group improvisations guide this record, a simple conversation between three strong musicians with strong ideas. Joe McPhee (tenor and soprano saxophones, trumpet, pocket cornet); Mike Kull (piano and electric piano); Harold E. Smith (percussion)." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: MCPHERSON, DONALD & TETUZI AKIYAMA
Title: Vinegar & Rum
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $17.50
"Recorded in New Zealand in 2004, is the duo recording of New Zealand guitarist Donald McPherson and Japanese guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama. A beautiful meeting of 2 virtuoso acoustic guitarists, both thoroughly schooled in the vast world of improvising. Donald McPherson, a native New Zealander has been playing the guitar since the tender age of 12, he studied at the Otago Art School in the 80s and in the 90s he released a number of extremely limited lathe-cut folk records. Tetuzi Akiyama is often associated with the improvising community in Tokyo generated around Tokyos Off Site venue. But to Tetuzis sound owes just as much to the country blues guitarists of the 30s. His sound has taken the blues form into a new world of minimalist improvisations. His loose playing side steps the usual clichés of the guitar in both the free improv and traditional folk scenes. Tetuzi has a varied number of very different projects from free improvisations, working with musicians across the globe, to hard minimalist electric blues boogies, a startling example can be found on Idea Records Dont Forget To Boogie LP and Headz live CD version. This record finds Tetuzi and Donald playing melodic folk improvisations that grow and morph into compositions that on each listening uncover some new layer of beauty. Both playing on acoustic guitar, they have a level of communication and understanding of each others playing, that allows a musical connection to grow and blossom into a full-length recording of delicate melodic mayhem. And the CD is limited to 1000, there are two extra tracks on the CD that do not appear on the vinyl version." First CD on BoWeavil; LP version is coming out later..." - Bo Weavil.

Title: St. Francis Duo
Format: Double LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $39.00
"Having played together in Æthenor for the last couple of years, Steve Noble and Stephen OMalley came together to play as a duo at Cafe OTO in 2011. These recordings are the result of these two hot and sticky nights in East London. Noble is a regular at Bo Weavil Recordings, having appeared on over nine recordings for the label, and a linch pin in Londons improvising community. So it was bound to be a memorable night of music to see these two meet. Steve Noble studied with Nigerian master drummer Elkan Ogunde in the early 1980s and over the last 20 years has played with most of the great players from all four corners of the globe. Stephen OMalley is predominantly a guitarist, producer and composer who has been at the center of avant-garde/drone metal, best known for his group Sunn0))), and also a prolific collaborator with many of the finest improvisers. Noble sets the recording off with a full tribal charge, while Stephen, instead of firing off a shard of ecstatic notes and chords, coaxes his guitar into singing a slow, ever-growing roar. But soon the two are off into some wild, creative rampages -- exciting drum and guitar territory sounding at times not too dissimilar to Hainos Fushitsusha, brutally beautiful, shredded riffs from OMalley meet with Nobles exuberant rhythmic force . On St. Francis Duo, the memory of these two nights can be heard in full violent sonic attack." -Bo Weavil.

But soon the two are off into some wild, creative rampages -- exciting drum and guitar territory sounding at times not too dissimilar to Hainos Fushitsusha, brutally beautiful, shredded riffs from OMalley meet with Nobles exuberant rhythmic force . On St. Francis Duo, the memory of these two nights can be heard in full violent sonic attack." Bo Weavil.

Artist: REINES DANGLETERRE
Title: Globe et Dynastie
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"Limited to 500 copies. Bo Weavil is totally psyched to have the opportunity to release the second album by Reines dAngleterre -- this time, a thoroughly studio affair. Reines dAngleterre is a fascinating collaboration between avant-outsider musician Ghédalia Tazartès and two electronic botanists, èlg and Jo aka Opéra Mort. This album covers more of the wild ground the band started with on 2010s Les Comores (SIDRA 003LP), but going further into a musical terrain that defies definite description -- a slow trip into wizards intimacy, synthetic jungles, undersea zoos and Tibetan-industrial complexes. It feels like one has stumbled into disturbing dreams from a different realm. A quality of mystery, trickery and hallucinatory movements slip and shift across the recording. This is out-there, experimental music with no fixed idiom, with a unique quality that defies most of todays recordings. Embossed card cover." -Bo Weavil.

Artist: REINES DANGLETERRE
Title: Les Comores
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"Reines DAngleterre (trans. "Queens Of England") is a band made up of French avant-garde legend Ghédalia Tazartès and a couple of hyperactive young Parisian upstarts, Jo Tanz and él-g. Both of these characters are steeped in subversive operations covering psych-folk and "toon-psych" films (él-g), and the Tanzprocesz label (Jo Tanz). They also both perform under the moniker of Opéra Mort and have made work as Lö Jengi. Reines DAngleterre are a damaged conglomeration of live concrète, sound poetry, faux ethnicity and sincere eccentricity. Les Comores (a reference to the island off the eastern coast of Africa which France still administers as an "overseas collectivity") is comprised of inexplicable ethnic residue and feasts on duality: chaos and order, narrative and anti-narrative, construction and destruction, comedy and dread. The glottal panoply of vocals ride in tandem with electronics: cracked, beaten, weathered and bruised. This is a brain-meltingly dark, gloriously unstable affair, but not one devoid of emotion. Edition of 400 hand-numbered LPs, housed in a heavyweight matte black embossed sleeve with insert." -Bo Weavil

Artist: STARVING WEIRDOS
Title: Into An Energy
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"This is a new release by Californias extremely prolific avant-drone duo, Starving Weirdos. These eight new pieces bear all the hallmarks of Starving Weirdos greatest work: the dizzying mixture of instrumental sounds, electronics, and field recordings, the pointillistic attention to sonic detail, the duos post-production technique, which achieves something like the aural equivalent of deep-focus photography. On Into An Energy, the duo of Brian Pyle and Merrick McKinlay is joined by occasional collaborators Steve Lazar and Greg Devaney for the length of the record, and perhaps their chemistry together accounts for the elusive shift in focus heard on these cuts. You see, even though Starving Weirdos routinely break out the rain sticks, the horns, the hand drums, the guitars, or the cup-and-ball, at its core their art is a kind of deep-forest-ghetto-musique concrète. You can never tell if what youre hearing is a real-time performance or a product of copious editing and overdubbing, whether those sounds emanated from tapes or from live instruments, whether it occurred in a tangible three-dimensional space or in a virtual soundcard reality. Most of the time, its a combination of all these, and the results are profoundly transportive and disorienting. Yet while the Weirdos song and album titles suggest an esoteric or spiritualist bent, their music is always reassuringly lucid, even earthy. Theirs is a mysticism grounded in the ordinary sounds of everyday life in their native Humboldt County, California. At their best, Starving Weirdos achieve that high romantic ideal: to make the familiar strange, and make the strange familiar. " Bo Weavil

Title: Rolled In The Midst Of Never-Ceasing Currents Flowing...
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"N/A ...Without A Rest Forever Onward. Firstly, this is not for the faint-hearted, but fear not, this is not another noise record. This LP is something else altogether. This is a massive, glorious psychedelic din, a thick fog of dramatic sound events. Starving Weirdos latest offering promises to enfold the listener who will experience the ecstatic grandeur of Anton Bruckner as much as the rich industrial drone of David Jackman. This is Lhasa in California -- a world drenched in ecstatic thrills and intense ethereal exploration. There are sounds, there are drones, there are rhythms and there are songs -- a glorious concoction that moves in a vertical fashion. As we live today, in all this murk; all this twisted history and convoluted present, we can be thankful that these folks in California came together to create such a glorious record for all to bathe in. But this, like all good things, is limited and will not be around forever. Step in now or forever remain the great unwashed. Edition of 350 numbered LPs, housed in a heavyweight silkscreened sleeves." -Bo Weavil.

Artist: TALIBAM! WITH ALAN WILKINSON
Title: Dem Ol Apple Pie Melodies
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $25.00
"LP release. Determined to continue collaborating with revolutionary blitzkrieg musicians in perpetuity, Brooklyns Talibam! (Matt Mottel and Kevin Shea) were set up on a blind date with Alan Wilkinson by Bo Weavil Recordings for a London basement show in May 2008. Like a late 60s Sadean love-in ripe with Joycean epiphanies, Talibam! heard in Wilkinsons tone the strength and grit of a fine British pint served cool and fresh... a perfect energy to swing-bounce their roly-poly hieroglyphic dance mayhem. A second gig happened in fall 2008, followed by this recording in winter 2009. If Talibam! and Wilkinson were a rugby team, theyd be in first place, trouncing competitors with more riff-hard tenacity and more powerful/declarative end-zone dances. Balancing contradictory cultural fragments into a psychedelic yin and yang power drive of glitch emission, sprezzatura horns, Zarathrusta organ drone launch, and sayanora-rama drum spills, Wilkinson, Mottel, and Shea turn animatronic nihilists into veritable musicological sexphorisms -- they cut the tension on the dancefloor like that abrupt liminal point between peace and footsie, between donuts and bagels, between lizards and turtles. These three dangerously handsome myriad-men from the future have materialized mixed signals into sharp-fanged foreign accents on this red-eye voyage to vinyl metropoly, a 2-sided ecosystem of Gatsby-killer morph-prov entitled Dem Ol Apple Pie Melodies. Limited edition of 350 hand-numbered copies. Lavish heavyweight matte sleeve with insert, designed by Damien Beaton." -Bo Weavil

Artist: TIGHT MEAT DUO
Title: Vanishing Fist
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $18.50
"Like all the great visionary thinkers of our time, from Iggy Stooge to Arthur Doyle, David Keenan and Alex Neilson are autodidactic polymaths devolving advanced thought back to punk-primitive motion. Judging by the music heard on Vanishing Fist, their first salvo under the name Tight Meat Duo, these twentysomething/thirtysomething Glaswegian deviants are prime examples of the dictum that the new wave of free musicians act on impulse. Theyve studied and immersed themselves in some of the most life affirming vibrations of all time, those silhouettes, shadows and forecasts of tomorrow disguised as free jazz, as Sun Ra almost put it; sensed this essence flooding their synapses, rewiring their DNA, messing with the id so inherited 3D vision becomes implanted Third Eye cosmology; and now theyre getting in on the aktion. Mini gatefold LP sleeve." -Bo Weavil.

Title: Obliquity
Format: LP
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $23.50
"Obliquity is a free jazz record, if youll forgive the use of such a hoary, old fashioned phrase. Its scorching, heads-down momentum, rhythm and drive places it in direct line of descent from the fierce originators of the genre: Ayler, Sanders, Graves, Frank Wright. It also swings. At times it dances. Obliquity is a free jazz record through the prism of the improvisational movement in Europe, though. This is no attempt at polite revivalism or looking back/up to the 1960s. Wilkinson/Edwards/Noble are producing new, vital music of and for now. John Edwards pins down the trio with precision and energy -- his tremendous internal rhythm on display to full effect throughout. Alan Wilkinson is a ferocious improviser, probably best known for membership of the demon Hession/Wilkinson/Fell trio. Obliquity features full-spectrum Wilkinson: flatouttakenoprisoners saxophonication, squeals, coughs, sustained improvisational experimentation and east London tribal chanting. Steve Noble is an upright drummer with a surgeons accuracy, his crisp percussion work has accompanied dancers, funksters, poets and tuba players. But hes not played better than here: great power, allied to grace, a subtle touch and solid time -- the drumming drives the music on to real heights." -Bo Weavil.

Artist: WOODEN SPOON
Title: The Folk Blues Guitar of Wooden Spoon
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"Wooden Spoon is seeking to create a music free from the influence of the modern world, to evoke some kind of state of pastoral introspection at once joyful and sad. Influenced by the Takoma school of guitar players, Popol Vuh & folk music from around the world, Wooden Spoons methods are instinctive, and his music has a reality and honesty rare in these times." - Bo Weavil.

Artist: ZECHARIA, ZADIK
Title: Kurdish Melodies On Zorna
Format: CD
Label: Bo Weavil
Country: UK
Price: $16.50
"Zadik Zecharias zorna playing is a powerful relentless blast of beauty. The drone-like qualities that engulf both the listener and player are unyielding in their intensity from start to finish. The instrument, well known in the Middle East, particularly in Kurdistan, Iraq and Turkey, is similar in sound and intensity to the Scottish bagpipes. Zadik takes few pauses for breath, but wildly plays a continuous flow of melody weaving around the Dola drum that provides a pulsating rhythm. Zadik Zecharia was born in the Sharnash Village in Kurdistan and moved to Israel in 1950. Zadik has dedicated his whole life to playing the zorna -- a traditional, trumpet-like instrument (but longer and narrower), that has been identified with the Kurdish people. There are two kinds of melodies: Chopie and Shechni. The Chopie are the fast melodies, tunes for dancing with the high notes of the Zorna. The Dola drum always accompanies the Zorna on Chopie tunes. The Shechni are slower melodies in the background, sad tunes that are usually played while the celebrators are sitting around the table. It reminds them of their Motherland, Kurdistan, and serves as an intro to the partying and dancing. (Tzadik Zecharia, Jerusalem 2005) First released on cassette in the 1980s, Bo Weavil reissue this with a beautiful digi-pack designed sleeve. Limited to 550." - Bo Weavil.
