Artist: AGENCEMENT
Title: Viosphere+ Selected Works 1984 - 1991
Format: CD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $24.00

"...dont imagine any rigid structure. Fixed points are constantly forced into motion, and the provision of any explicit three dimensional model is avoided entirely. Again we are shown that the priority of music is that it represents a structure that cannot be reduced to the visual or linguistic." - 1991 review in Bijutsu Techo art magazine

"Hideaki Shimada who started making art and improvised violin experiments in the late 1970s in Kanazawa. As a continuation of some of these ideas, he started adding tapes, which led to the creation of the Agencement electronic project in 1985. Two LPs were released under that name, then his first CD "Viosphere" in 1991. Art into Life is now reissuing this album, plus three previously unissued tracks from the same period, under the title "Viosphere +". Of particular interest is the previously unreleased 1988 studio session with Hironari Iwata - from Toukaseibunshi from the same 80s experimental scene. Its a heavily avant-garde performance for guitar, amplifier and autoharp.

Comes in a box with a 12 page booklet of performance photographs from the period and several 2011 visual works. Limited edition of 200." - Art Into Life.

Artist: EMBUDAGONN 108
Title: Radio Embudagonn
Format: Double LP + Cassette
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $45.00

"Wataru Kasahara has been making music and art under the name Embudagonn108 since the 1980s. This 2LP set reissues "Radio Embudagonn", a self-released double-CDr and booklet set in an edition of just 18 that saw virtually no distribution at all in 2009. Its a record of an intensely distinctive approach to sound collage that drew together AM radio recordings from the late 1980s with Kasaharas own compositions. Its a deeply moving portrait of his inner world of consciousness at that particular historical moment. Includes a 12-page booklet - each one individually handmade by Kasahara and includes purpose-made prints, porn mag collages, etc. Comes in a 12 inch envelope, tied with a black-dyed kite string. Artist: GEERKEN, HARTMUT & MICHAEL RANTA
Title: The Heliopolar Egg
Format: 5 CD Box
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $52.00
“Documentary recordings of Hartmut Geerken and Michael Rantas November and December 1976 tour of the Middle East and East Asia. Geerken is known for his long relationship with Sun Ra (including compiling a discography), but he wears many other hats too: musician, film-maker, archivist. Ranta is a percussionist best known for his famous “Improvisation Sep.1975” collaborative record with Toshi Ichiyanagi and Takehisa Kosugi. This is a CD reissue of an LP boxset, originally released in 2010 as the last release on the now dormant Italian label Qbico. The tour started in Iran before moving east to India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Korea, and ending in Japan. At their show in Osaka, they played together with Toshi Ichiyanagi. This edition includes the concert with Ichiyanagi, solo performances by Ichiyanagi and Shoko Shida, as well as a rare Delhi performance that was originally only included in the highly limited 6LP edition of the Qbico set. All the tracks overflow with rich multi-dimensionality, providing a glimpse of Ranta and Geerkens depth as performers. Boxset. Includes a 12-page booklet with flyers from the period.Limited edition of 500.” - Art Into Life.

Artist: GILLIS, ANNE
Title: Archives Box 1983-2005
Format: 5 CD Box
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $52.00
“As though pursuing the smallest of impulses to their logical end-points, French composer Manon Anne Gillis began creating sound works and performances in the mid 1980s that were simultaneously quotidian and theatrical.
This is the first archival release to cover her work in its entirety: from the 1983 Devils Picnic release, right up to her 2005 installations and exhibitions. This 5CD box includes all of her albums on the (CRI)2, DMA2 and Rangehen labels, her only collaborative single with G.X. Jupitter-Larsen, most of her compilation tracks (minus a few where the original master tapes have gone missing), and 11 previously unreleased tracks. This is dense and detailed work, ripe with ancient dreams, bodily functions, darkness, secrets, and beautiful seclusion.
All tracks newly remastered by Colin Potter in 2015. Boxset including disk sleeves with the original artwork and a 20-page booklet.Limited edition of 500.” - Art Into Life.

Artist: HAMMER, JOSEPH
Title: Roadless Travel
Format: CD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $22.00
"LAFMS musician Joseph Hammer creates unparalleled works of tape manipulation. However, as yet there are comparatively few solo albums by this phenomenal artist. To rectify this situation, Art Into Life has decided to release Roadless Travel, his latest album. The album comes with a dense 24 page booklet of liner notes (essentially a full history of Hammer) by T. Sakaguchi, who has enjoyed a long friendship with him and is the foremost Japanese historian of the LAFMS scene." - Art Into Life.

Artist: KONAGAYA, JUN
Title: Travel
Format: CD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $23.00
"Jun Konagaya is best known as GRIM, but in 2012 he published a story and CD called “Organ” about a young girl called Magnolia and a monster called Gamahead. Travel presents the second part of the story. Several years have passed and Magnolia has set out on a journey, where she records the many things she sees and hears. It is unclear whether her journey is real or imaginary, and as she wanders between dream and reality she stumbles across some ruins in the middle of a forest. Her feet carry her closer to the ruins, as though she is being summoned there. She then hears a woman singing underground.

Includes a 40-page booklet that illustrates Magnolia’s adventures. Joint release between Art Into Life and Eskimo Records. Boxset. Limited edition of 300." - Art Into Life.

Artist: KUWAYAMA, KIYOHARA
Title: Approximate Dates When The Sun Reaches Each Hour Of Right Ascension
Format: LP + Cass
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $37.00
"Kiyoharu Kuwayama (Lethe) is a Nagoya-based artist who began creating work in 1988 using a halftone-scale violin, household items, and other assorted found junk. After numerous collaborative performances and recordings, he began the ongoing "Catastrophe Point" series which makes use of the resonant qualities of huge abandoned industrial buildings. For this release, we have chosen two pieces of his guitar work from the mid to late 90s. The release is a dual format LP and cassette set, with the five-part "Electric Guitar Solo" recorded in 1999 on the LP, and the very different tape recording "Interference" on the cassette. Both pieces are very different in feel to Kuwayamas more recent work, ripe with dense and seething impulses.
Individually silkscreened packaging (each set is unique) by Kuwayama himself. The jacket, insert, poster, cards, etc are all silkscreened images based on Kuwayamas original photography. Limited edition of 100." - Art Into Life.

Artist: LEWIS, JOSEPH AND DAVID STEANS
Title: Our Demons and Our Demons 2
Format: CD/DVD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $17.00
"John Mylotte (aka Sir Ashleigh Grove) is the leader of the ultra-mysterious cult group Metgumbnerbone, which also includes Richard and Philip Rupenus of The New Blockaders. This is a heretical two-part work, entitled "Our Demons 1 & 2", and was filmed on mini-DV cameras by Mylottes friends David Steans and Joseph Lewis. The films capture various ritualistic actions performed by ten masked individuals, somewhere in the blasted landscape of England. The films overflow with a warped humour, confusing the viewer as to the participants real intentions. The background music weaves an even more cultic atmosphere - not noise, but a kind of self-imagined trad folk. This version comes with an additional, stand-alone, remastered CD of the soundtrack. Only a small proportion of the soundtrack was used for the final cut of the film, so this is the only place where you can hear the full soundtrack. Highly recommended for all devotees of Metgumbnerbones uniquely eccentric sensibilities! Hardboard cover with tarot card prints by Joseph Lewis, and liner notes. Limited edition of 150." - Art Into Life.

Artist: NEW BLOCKADERS AND ARTBREAKHOTEL, THE
Title: Haikagura (灰神楽)
Format: Double CD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $29.00
"The New Blockaders and Nobuo Yamada released a collaborative album, “Prickle/Crevice” in 2005. They sent sound materials back and forth over the past nine years to create these latest collaborations.
Two titles will be released simultaneously. The “81/44” LP is credited to Richard Rupenus & Nobuo Yamada; while the 2CD set “Haikagura” uses their group names, The New Blockaders & Artbreakhotel.

Rusting metal junk, discarded as trash by a world that saw no value in it, but when filled with blood, flesh and bone it can be transformed into potent sources of energy. Those chunks of energy are designed to rouse once more our savage souls, to drag us out of our comfortable everyday reality into an imaginary world. TNB present us with a choking, vacuum-like, hermetically sealed space where you utterly lose touch with your senses, whereas ABH dwell with our senses then push them towards freedom.

The cover art is a classical, elegant portrait photo by Rupenus which has then been walked over and spat on by Yamada. Package consists of a long box, containing a handmade ‘objet’ card made of scrap metal (each one is different in shape and design) and a twelve-page booklet of artwork by the two musicians. Limited edition of 250." - Art Into Life

Artist: NORD
Title: s/t

"Nord, consisting of Satoshi Katayama and Hiroshi Oikawa, were one of the leading groups in the Japanese underground music scene of the 1980s. The groups two members now perform separately, both of them using the Nord moniker. This is the first CD reissue of their debut LP, originally released by Pinakotheca Records in 1981 when they were still performing as a duo. This reissue includes a disk of bonus material recorded around the same time as the LP. The bonus material includes four previously unreleased studio live takes recorded on April 29, 1982, and a complete version (18:49) of their live set at Shinjuku Loft on August 24, 1981 (part of the live set was previously issued on the "Live Materials" cassette on Vanilla Records). Artist: ROSENBOOM, DAVID
Title: Roundup Two
Format: Double CD
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $25.00
"For over four decades, composer-performer David Rosenboom has developed unique circuitry and software for making musical models of the wondrous natural world come alive. Traversing the raucous and the sublime, ROUNDUP TWO presents live performances with vacuum tube analog computers, solid-state manifestations of chaos and harmony, musical interventions on political tunes, virtuoso performers interlinked with hybrid processing, and more. ROUNDUP TWO is an essential, historical document containing important examples from a sixteen-year period in this innovative artist’s extraordinary, pioneering work. Acknowledgements and history Several of these pieces appeared in an audio, cassette package released in 1987 by Slowscan editions, s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, titled Roundup, A Live electro-acoustic retrospective (1968-1984). For Roundup Two, all those pieces have been re-mastered from tapes in audio archives that were in various states of preservation. Several that were originally presented only in excerpts are now presented in complete, unedited versions, and other works not on the original Roundup have been added." - Art Into Life.

Artist: RUPENUS AND NOBUO YAMADA, RICHARD
Title: 81/44
Format: LP
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $31.00
"The New Blockaders and Nobuo Yamada released a collaborative album, “Prickle/Crevice” in 2005. They sent sound materials back and forth over the past nine years to create these latest collaborations.
Two titles will be released simultaneously. The “81/44” LP is credited to Richard Rupenus & Nobuo Yamada; while the 2CD set “Haikagura” uses their group names, The New Blockaders & Artbreakhotel.

Side A: 20% heavily armed with random discharges of radio-wave theatre and metal noise. Multiple blows with a heavy hatchet along the time axis, but no blood flows. From the speakers, the right and left wing exchange blows but reconciliation remains eternally unreachable. Steeped in idle repetition in a comfortably heated secret chamber. With several random passers-by, sounds like those made by slapping a wet towel alternate between life and death but in a continual state of existence. However, it was all meaningless.

Side B: Misshapen metal objects roll around randomly, 100% liberated in their movement. Junk noise flies about in every direction, howling at distant objects, wildly spasming, rolling around on the floor, having sudden heart failures, and constantly apologizing for its own violent impulses. Yes, finally the expression of those capricious modulations begins to show its charm, and losing none of its freshness rusted fragments fly up into the air in Japan and the UK.

Handmade jacket consisting of a decorated transparent acrylic sheet (each one is different). The background color changes according to the light conditions. Limited edition of 150." - Art Into Life.

Artist: TOUKASEIBUNSHI
Title: Stratosphere Sound
Format: LP
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $27.00
"Hironari Iwata began his solo project Toukaseibunshi (Transparent Molecules) in 1985. In the same year he formed a second unit called Haiginsha, and began collaborating with Merzbow and Agencement. Iwata also ran the independent label Angakok, releasing several albums on cassette and curating a compilation that featured some the most radical musicians of the period including H.N.A.S., Asmus Tietchens, P16.D4, DDAA, etc. But in 1988 he suddenly ceased all musical activities. He returned to public attention twenty-one years later in 2009, when PSF Records released an edited reissue of his early album, “Meta-Inorganicmatter Meta-Newlon”. “Stratosphere Sound” is Iwata’s latest work, underpinned by his feelings of poignancy and deep passion towards his own music.

The release is designed to emphasize the concept of transparency: it is pressed on clear vinyl and comes with a photographic print by Aqua (Iwata’s photography alias) on special transparent film. Limited edition of 200." - Art Into Life.

Artist: YEAST CULTURE
Title: IYS
Format: LP
Label: Art Into Life
Country: Japan
Price: $34.00
“This is a field of action implied, in the many possibilities and several contextualities of time...”,“...projecting music outside the realm of musicology, with a well structured leap into the biological realm of sound and perception...” citing the IYS LP for example in note 56. – excerpted from Part II of THE NOISE OF HISTORIES by Giancarlo Toniutti, posted on http://www.23five.org "Full color deluxe gatefold, 180g gray vinyl printed by original artists! Fully opens to tree diagrams poster! IYS – stem, branch, expression. Radiative expansion. The tree is silent. Make it speak. Assault on Venus. Cartesian grid or dimensional zones? Plants & animals. Airplanes, birds. When we hear a natural sound, how is it perceived? Is destruction an abberation in space-time? Process music. Nature can be quite quiet. Infrequent sounds in isolation. Overnight Campsite. Revealed roots. Primitive sound genesis. Time lapse structures. Wild environments. Some things in nature are meant to be broken, like the shell of a nut. Sound of life torn apart. Not the brittle crispiness of dried fall. Pattern perception. A specific, localized sound environment. Tree removal. Reverse animation. Search for the right sized subject. Madrona. Logging roads, island trek. Sacrifice. Microcosm in sound recording. Detailed exclusion. No looping. A finite numbered sequence. Its inversion alongside. A trailer full of dissected specimen. Ladder and camera. The cultivation of a sonic germ. Is the spirit intact? A single flower tops the tree. The waxy green leaves are first plucked. Its a skeletal reversal rehearsal. Displaced matter. Three days of taping. Prepared systematic process. Horizontal reorientation of sound contents. Wood audio emissions. Tanglewood. Time compression shifting. Tiny becomes tinier. Tinny becomes tinnier. Analog reels reality analogue. The beast has left. Careful with that axe! Levels zero and one on up to the branch tips. Field drawings and photos. Archeological dig in the dirt. Unearthed trunk. A missing organism is globally dispensed with. And still this thing persists. A strange evolution through sound. Creepy." - Art Into Life.
