Artist: AMBOLLEY, GYEDU-BLAY
Title: Simigwa
Format: LP
Label: Academy
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"Gyedu-Blay Ambolley unleashed his unique brand of simigwa music on an eager yet unsuspecting world in 1975 with the release of this, his debut album. Suffused with his larger-than-life personality, this LP is an absolutely irresistible manifesto of his heavy afro-funk simigwa philosophy. This record spawned a genuine dance craze in Ghana and is even considered a foundational record of the hip lifestyle of hip hop that is popular in Ghana today. Long sought-after by collectors, Academy LPs and Voodoo Funk have teamed up once again to revive this incredible record from the vibrant musical scene of 70s West Africa. Mastered from the original master tapes and featuring the rather remarkable original sleeve, this is an ultra high-quality reissue that continues the reputation weve built with our previous releases. This is a limited, one-time only pressing of 1500 LPs." -Academy.

Artist: PSYCHEDELIC ALIENS, THE
Title: Psycho African Beat
Format: LP
Label: Academy
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
LP version. Includes 12-page booklet with historic photos and liner notes written by band leader Ricky Teifer. "Most anticipated African release ever! Like most stories involving aliens, this one seems, well, made up. But it really happened. For a few years in the late 60s to early 70s worlds collided and aliens walked among us. Psycho African Beat is the complete recorded output of this amazing group and their unprecedented music that combined elements of American soul , funk, garage rock and psych with African rhythms and melodies -- and made music. This magical moment lasted for three short years producing only three releases: One four-song EP and two 7"s. Today, these three original releases are the most sought after and most elusive African funk records. It took Frank Gossner (Voodoofunk.com, Soulpusher, DJ Franco) four years, nine visits to Ghana , and dozens of newspaper ads and radio announcements to track them down. Official release of these long lost gems, licensed directly from the band. Sharp!" - Academy.

Title: Lagos Disco Inferno
Format: Double LP
Label: Academy
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"Welcome to the Lagos Disco Inferno, the first compilation of rare, Nigerian Disco to be released outside of Africa. Compiled by Frank Gossner (of Voodoofunk.com fame), this record contains 12 tracks that represent the sound of Lagos in the late 1970s. Dean Disi (Music Journalist and formerly Director of Lagos based label TYC Records) wrote the liner notes for this album: ⿿It was the era of sheer ecstasy. The music not only represents the vibrancy of youthful expressionism of the time but is also deeply rooted in African rhythm though not traditional in phraseology. This collection of songs marks the development of Nigerian urban pop culture. There was diametric difference in the music of the discos and the music play by the groups. Disco music as played by the DJs was essentially western. The fans could connect with this easily. It was hip, urban and stimulating. The young Nigerian groups were hooked on it and tried to play it but with a distinctive African stamp of their own.⿝ Some of the artists on this record were stars of their times while others remained in obscurity. Lagos, a uniquely vibrant, gritty, energetic and sometimes quite dangerous tropical metropolis has always been much more than just a city. A state of mind where third world poverty met the oil boom, where African traditions clashed with Western decadence. Make no mistake, this stuff will have you dance in a feverish rush in no time." - Academy.
