Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Reissue of the complete works by this unusual NYC trio from the early 80s. Featuring Barbara Ess (bass, ukulele, thumb drum, vocals), Verge Piersol (drums, vocals), Gail Vachon (keyboards, ukulele, vocals). This features their debut 7" EP on the illustrious 99 Records label (produced by Glenn Branca, from 1980), plus their Tellus comp. track and their album on Neutral from 1982, Beat It Down (produced by Wharton Tiers). Barbara Ess was the co-editor of Just Another Asshole magazine, an ex-member of the Theoretical Girls and a pretty crucial figure in the whole NY no wave scenario. Their sound wasnt the atonal no wave screech I was desperately hoping for at the time, but more of a toy-instrument-inflected performance-art cache of weirdness." - Forced Exposure. Liner notes by Dan Graham, Lynne Tillman, Wharton Tiers, Barbara Barg, Kiki Smith & Gail Vachon.

Title: Chants and Songs
Format: CD
Label: Swordfish
Country: UK
Price: $14.00
"We The Source Family were given this Sacred Name of God YHVH, the Tetragrammaton by our Earthly Spiritual Father whom we called, simply, Father. We came together every morning and chanted this Ancient and Sacred Name in many forms.  During this transition into The New Age the Age of Aquarius this ancient and Sacred Name is finally going Mainstream so we have come to realize that the time has finally arrived to release our original Chants.   Although some of these Chants are "Beautiful" . . . we could not call this a "Beautiful Album". The Chants are sometimes inspiring and occasionally haunting Chants.  Most of the recordings were made on inexpensive equipment - and it has deteriorated since it was recorded in the early to mid 70s.  At one of our morning Meditations, just before The Source Family dispersed, someone suggested that we try to record all of our Chants. Maybe 20 of us gathered later that morning at "The Sun Palace" . . . and set a $29.98, monaural tape recorder with a tiny, built-in microphone on the floor in the middle of the circle. We have re-mastered all of it, to attain the best quality sound possible from the original tapes.  We encourage you to sing along with these Chants."- Source Family.

Title: God And Hair
Format: 13 CD Box Set
Label: Captain Trip
Country: Japan
Price: $120.00
"2nd edition now available. No longer comes w/ the original oversize box or booklet, but priced at a much lower price. This 13 CD box set collects the complete available recordings of 70s cult rockers from CA, Ya Ho Wha 13. Led by the late Father Yod, who supposedly died in a hang-gliding accident in the late 70s(?), Ya Ho Wha 13 released numerous LPs (and at least one 8-Track) on their own Higher Key label in the mid-70s. Only distributed locally at the time, some of these have been reissued in psuedo-legit (or outright bootleg) fashion in the UK over the last decade (although more recent Swordfish releases are fully authorized), but have never been widely available. These records epitomize the insanity of highly-personalized psychedelic exploration via the fringes of rock music and its subsequent private documentation better than anything else produced by the human race to date. Tribal-acid pound from the familys key group members (Djinn, guitar; Sunflower, bass; Octavius, drums) and freakish vocal output from Yod himself, wailing away on top like the king of the universe. The exact number of of Ya Ho Wha albums has never been clearly specified until now, but this incredible box set appears to put them all in place, plus a few CDs worth of unreleased material. This new edition features a wooden box with wax seal, with the 13 discs contained in 3 plastic cases. Its not as deluxe as the original packaging (which had 13 separate jewel case editions -- but that was for "then," this is for "now." The music still represents the ultimate in the weird & insane world of private press psychedelic documentation, not to be missed. Contains the following albums: 1) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76: Kohoutek (the debut release on Higher Key from 1973). 2) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76: Contraction (1974). 3) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRT OF 76: Expansion (1974). 4) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76:All Or Nothing At All (1974, with 4 bonus 7" tracks). 5) YAHOWA 13 (1974, with two bonus 7" tracks). 6) YAHOWA 13: Savage Sons of Yahowa (1974). 7) YAHOWA 13: Penetration: An Aquarian Symphony (1974, the masterpiece, one of the 25 most destroyed rock records of all time for sure!). 8) YAHOWHA 13: Im Gonna Take You Home (1974, again! & and another monster record; lets not forget Gregg Breths words from the past -- after all, his copies were handed to him by wisdom: The ultimate acid album there is. Insane vocals and screaming, 100% twisted guitar and total permeated feeling of being completely fucked up! This album is the epitome of the term acid.). 9) YAHOWA 13: To The Principles For The Children (1974-75). 10) FIRE, WATER, AIR: Golden Sunrise (1977, the 8-track only release). 11) YODSHIP (undated, showed up as a UK boot/legit issue a few years ago; classic acid-folk floatation/chant from Osirus & Sunlight with the brothers and sisters). 12) VA: Related Singles (featuring Sky Saxon on most tracks). 13): VA: Unreleased Materials (jamming post-Yod psych from Djinn, Sunflower, Octavius, etc., with Sky Saxon on some tracks)."

Format: CD
Label: Swordfish
Country: UK
Price: $14.00
"New reissue of this all-time classic from 1974, licensed directly from Father Yods Source Foundation in Hawaii. Previously only available as a long gone bootleg or as part of the 13CD Capt. Trip box, now readily available. This is one of deepest Ya Ho Wha albums, right up there with Penetration. "The ultimate acid album ever! These seminal west coast weirdsters are rumored to have had members of the 13th Floor Elevators and Sky Saxon involved and perform with them. True or not, this album is extremely rare and musically very, very weird! This mystical and drug-influenced collection of lysergic acid heads created some of the scariest sounds ever, definitely NOT for the faint hearted. After you light the blue touch paper, stand well back, because this toxic concoction will liquidize any cerebral matter within a 10 metre radius! Manic, screamed vocals are accompanied by relentless 100% twisted guitar on this mega rare platter. Presented in its original and totally authentic gatefold sleeve with the lovers and the chariot tarot card cover and the proclamation divine communion time is here, little kitties -- YA HO WA 009 --Licensed to give life! I could write a book on the cover. It is an absolute masterpiece of design, and probably the greatest cover in music history. Suffice it to say if you were to fully grasp the meaning and symbology of it, you would have the keys to magically transform your person and environment into your hearts desire and ride the chariot of god into the future of your own will, one with god. -- Djin Aquarian (Guitar) on Im Gonna Take You Home." -Swordfish

Title: Magnificence In The Memory
Format: LP
Label: Drag City
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"The legendary Father Yod was a wealthy man, with a rich inner life, a family of disciples that loved him, many, many women and seemingly unlimited power. So why at the height of his success, did he choose to spend his time playing rock and roll? Having a band in residency at Father House provided him and all his children with another path to travel in their never-ending search for experience and wisdom. Taking time out from their busy schedule as Fathers students and spiritual seekers in the Source Family, Sunflower, Octavius, Pythias and Djin took instruments in hand and, at a mere gesture from Father, turned up the amps and began tapping into the cosmos. First, they recorded themselves. The energy was good. Equipped by Father with instruments and effects pedals to ensure that they could create music that came from the spheres, their sounds provided spiritual growth to everyone in the Source Family. After a time, Father became the lead singer, as a way to record wisdom in a modern, youth-oriented way, Djin tells us. And YaHoWha 13 was born with Sunflower, Octavius and Djin. The music was recorded at a studio in the Father House on a TEAC 4-track reel-to-reel machine and was released on the Source Familys Higher Key Records label. In a couple short years, nine LPs were created, to be sold at the Source Restaurant and at YaHoWha 13 shows. Much sought-after items today, theyve all been reissued. Even more exciting is the material that wasnt released - enough music to fill over sixty albums, all of them mind-blowers. Skimmed from the riches in Isis Aquarians vaults (by Dave Nuss of the No-Neck Blues Band), the nine tracks on Magnificence in the Memory run the gamut of YaHoWha 13s rainbow of styles, from the whispered funk of Camp of the Gypsies to the screaming and stomping of, well, Camp of the Gypsies. Storming through moments with abandon, Father and his Sons never repeated themselves, committing everything they did to tape in a single take. The capacity of their riffs and grooves to sound like German prog bands of the same era, psychedelic rock bands of several years previous or the as-yet-uncreated avant sounds from the indie rock movement a decade away is testament to their ability to tap the source of human inspiration. Adds Octavius, These cuts will always be a source of inspiration. The songs on Magnificence in the Memory were chosen to provide a non-stop exciting listening experience for Source fans and neophytes alike - and as Sunflower has stated, Fathers music is our legacy and represents the voice of the times." -Drag City

Title: Pain/A Thousand Sighs
Format: 7"
Label: Unknown
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Most-sincere moments of unmediated clarity/genius from improvisational psych-rock collective Ya Ho Wa 13. Father Yods spiritual encirclement and their well-jocked music tends to be discombobulated at best, but these songs record a very different story: brahmanic ascension, heart-wrenching expression, a beautiful simplicity and sincerity that shines through immediately and captivates with our first utterances of astonishment. This, my children, is the real art. Pain & A Thousand Sighs can go blow for blow with the most celebrated of the 1970s rock/psych/experimental cannon, moments of revelation that break through the cult of personality and attempt something much more universal than a simple exercise in improvisation. An essential release."

"Official reissue of this album from 1974 -- one of the heaviest albums from Father Yod and crew. Along with Im Gonna Take You Home, its just the best -- one of the finest sacred space cadet acid-mantra psychedelic death trips of all time, for sure. Captain Father Yod moans & groans a perfect vocal chime over the top of the searing guitar rip of "Djin" and a massive cloak of tribal percussion and general peaked whatsis. Touched & tipped by higher forces you can only dream of -- this contain the most intense passages created by the band Ya Ho Wa 13. One of the best album covers of all time, too. "This was called an Aquarian Symphony back in 1974 to herald through music, the coming of the Aquarian Age, September 17th, 2003. It was ahead of its time. Now its time has come!" -- Djin Aquarian, (guitarist), May, 2003." -Swordfish

Documentary video by Evan Wells, in conjuction with Isis and E from the Source Family. Going back to the Beatnik era of the late 50s when Baker ran a sandal shop in Hollywood it goes through the origins of the Family in Los Angeles in 1967 to the dispersal in the mid 70s. Many of the original members of the Family are interviewed and the new and extensive footage from the 70s is featured throughout. "Back in the early 70s a curious group owned and operated a health food restaurant in Los Angles. The Source Family was a religious group of young people centered around the father figure of Father Yod, a WWII flying ace and spiritual searcher. This group of young people also performed improvisational music backing Father Yod under the name Yahowa 13. When Father Yod died in a hang gliding accident in 1975, the group dispersed. In 2007, with the publishing of a book about the Source Family, the original Yahowa 13 reunited for some shows and did some studio recordings. These are the long awaited results, the first studio recordings in over 30 years by Yahowa 13! Original members Djin, Octavius and Sunflower jam out like the ensuing years never happened. Incredible improv pieces with mind melting guitar and the psychedelic low end throb that all Yod fans will immediately recognize. Literally, the best reunion album of all time!" -Prophase

Title: The Operetta
Format: Double LP
Label: Swordfish
Country: UK
Price: $44.00
"The psychedelic find of the decade-their long-lost final magnum opus. Rumoured to exist for years-often put down as just rumour though. Here it is, unearthed from tapes thought lost forever but now found after nearly 30 years. The first thing to be released from Ya Ho Wha 13 since 1975. In the spring of 1975 the Family was homeless and was travelling on the West Coast after having been driven out of Hawaii by local laws (they would return later that year for what would be the final time with Father). Ya Ho Wha had taken a spontaneous journey to the East which had culminated in his initiation in the Great Pyramid of Egypt on Easter Sunday. Upon his return to the San Francisco area a warehouse in Corte Madeira was rented for the Family to gather for their Aquarian style morning meditations and meetings to greet the dawn. This is where The Operetta came down. It represents the first musical channelling from the time after Ya Ho Whas Easter Ressurrection in the Great Pyramid (returning transformed) and the last total musical recording he would make with the band. The 6 pieces which make up The Operetta form the culmination of all the YaHoWhan recordings -- thunderous percussion, massive psychedelic guitar swirlings are all vying for space with Ya Ho Whas spontaneous chanting in this intense journey into inner self. The final and most awesome of all their creations. A strictly limited edition 2 LP set presented in a gatefold cover featuring previously unseen photographs from the Familys personal archives, it comes with an insert featuring a transcription of Ya Ho Whas thoughts and comments on the piece when he heard the tapes played back to him shortly after they were recorded. One off pressing -- this is destined to become as rare as the Higherkey original" - Swordfish.

"It was 1972, time of the cult-occult-commune explosion. By day, the Source Family served organic cuisine to John Lennon, Julie Christie, Frank Zappa and others at the famed Source restaurant. By night, in a mansion in Hollywood Hills, they explored the cosmos through the channeled wisdom of their charismatic leader, Father Yod. Father was an outlandish figure who had 14 ??spiritual wives,? drove a Rolls-Royce, and fronted the rock band Ya Ho Wa 13, now considered by collectors to be one of the most singular psychedelic bands of all time. 7 x 10 ? 280 pages ? over 200 original period photographs." - Process Media. Title: To The Principles For The Children
Format: LP
Label: Swordfish
Country: UK
Price: $31.00
The fifth Ya Ho Wha 13 album to be officially reissued by Swordfish, in their continuing series - licensed directly from the Source Foundation. Has the original artwork, 180gm vinyl and all new 2006-written liner notes by Isis. Plus lyrics! Limited edition of 500 copies. This album was originally released on Higher Key around 1975. "At the end of 1974 The Source sold their restaurant and moved to Hawaii. There they went looking for paradise only to encounter hostile locals, who were reluctant to rent out a pad for Yahowa and his 13 wives, forcing them to temporarily retreat to Northern California. But they eventually reconfigured themselves and returned to Hawaii for a final fractious stand. To The Principles For The Children dates from this period and the tension shows. Its two long tracks are broken into untitled fragments, one of them an ode to woman power worthy of Helen Reddy. More frequently Yahowa locks into heaven chant mode, surrounded by instrumental rings that recall The Magic Band of Abba Zabba. Very possibly, this album explains a great deal of the Fathers philosophy - that is, if you can make out the words, of which there are many. By way of compensation the ensemble seamlessly blends effects and percussion, and when the kidschorus of Yahowa starts up at the end youll know youve already been somewhere." - Byron Coley.

Format: 7"

Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"Now-Again Records presents exact reproductions of two of the four 7" singles that the Iranian psychedelic rock musician Kourosh Yaghmaei released before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Taken from Back from the Brink, the only legitimately licensed Kourosh collection, these recordings were thought lost after Islamic fundamentalists took control of Iran. They werent: Kourosh had protected them -- along with key ephemera from the 70s. Here, fans of the 7" vinyl format can purchase Kouroshs last two singles as he originally released them. The first single presented here, Hajme Khali, is a masterful psychedelic dirge that was included on this labels Forge Your Own Chains anthology. Akhm Nakon, the b-side, is perhaps Kouroshs most famous song in the West and is psychedelic funk music at its best." - Now-Again.

Title: Up From The Sewers
Format: CD
Label: Lion Productions
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Super political, rocking, anti-establishment communal band (c. 1970) put together as a result of the Kent State Massacre. As the Euphoria Blimpworks Band, fronted by Howard Berkman from morose garage punksters the Knaves, they played demonstrations and student strikes when they werent opening for blues royalty -- or being the first band to play the yard at Cook County Jail. They were inter-racial, anti-war, Stop the Bomb, free love hippies, the wildest of the wild kids. And this is the quintessential anarcho-hippie record, a surprisingly well-engineered indie effort which came inside home-made silk-screened jackets, with twisted, poetic lyrics (Dylan or Arthur Lee and Love? you decide), and funky, rocking bones -- political, sociological, ecological, reflective and free-love sexy. The Karma Dusters really cook on the up-tempo tracks, sounding at times like a cross between The Blues Project and Dylans band circa 1966, augmented by some dazzling violin. This excellent sounding master-tape reissue has two bonus tracks; it also has two booklets -- one is for the outrageous and explicit Gonzo history of the band and their urban commune; the other is a wrap-around booklet for lyrics, all served up together in a Mylar plastic sleeve. You just know the FBI has a huge file on these punks. But do they have the album?" -Lion Productions.

"Second solo full-length from Ed Yazijian, also known for his long running but sparsely documented collaborations with Dredd Foole, featuring eight disparate tracks recorded between 1996 and 2009. Each side starts off with some slow burning guitar (accented by bowed contrabass and violin on side two) that reverberates with an ease past midnight vibe. The album then weaves through a personalized space featuring eastern percussion, mainlined/cosmic violin drones and intercepted radio transmissions from an unknown origin. The record concludes with a contemplative guitar which is enveloped in tape hiss that eases its way in before fading away. The LP pressed in an edition of 350 copies and is presented in a full colour printed sleeve that is at one itself and with the spirits an opaque facsimile." - HP Cycle.

Fully opens to tree diagrams poster! IYS – stem, branch, expression. Radiative expansion. The tree is silent. Make it speak. Assault on Venus. Cartesian grid or dimensional zones? Plants & animals. Airplanes, birds. When we hear a natural sound, how is it perceived? Is destruction an abberation in space-time? Process music. Nature can be quite quiet. Infrequent sounds in isolation. Overnight Campsite. Revealed roots. Primitive sound genesis. Time lapse structures. Wild environments. Some things in nature are meant to be broken, like the shell of a nut. Sound of life torn apart. Not the brittle crispiness of dried fall. Pattern perception. A specific, localized sound environment. Tree removal. Reverse animation. Search for the right sized subject. Madrona. Logging roads, island trek. Sacrifice. Microcosm in sound recording. Detailed exclusion. No looping. A finite numbered sequence. Its inversion alongside. A trailer full of dissected specimen. Ladder and camera. The cultivation of a sonic germ. Is the spirit intact? A single flower tops the tree. The waxy green leaves are first plucked. Its a skeletal reversal rehearsal. Displaced matter. Three days of taping. Prepared systematic process. Horizontal reorientation of sound contents. Wood audio emissions. Tanglewood. Time compression shifting. Tiny becomes tinier. Tinny becomes tinnier. Analog reels reality analogue. The beast has left. Careful with that axe! Levels zero and one on up to the branch tips. Field drawings and photos. Archeological dig in the dirt. Unearthed trunk. Title: New York Nuts and Boston Beans
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Violinist/vocalist C Spencer Yeh & unrivaled saxophone elder-titan Paul Flaherty team up without the assistance of acclaimed drummer Chris Corsano for the first time. Along for the jamz is bonkers Boston trumpeter Greg Kelley. After performing numerous times and honing a distinct group dynamic as a trio over many years with celebrated percussionist Chris Corsano, Yeh and Flaherty decided to try it out one-on-one. The record comprises of the best from two live sets from a short duo tour in the Northeast -- at the celebrated venue Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, and Nom DArtiste in Boston. With minimal editing, this is the sound of two people tearing at the limits of their instruments, these iconic configurations of metal and wood; hurling their respective accumulated life experience into one another, exposed and raw. The duo is likely one of the most dangerous configurations for people to interact within, musical or otherwise. Greg Kelley on trumpet is added to the mix and the results mutate into an even more mysterious form -- the trumpet is indistinguishable from the vocals; the saxophone creaks so the voice doesnt have to." -Important

Title: The Elementary Particles
Format: 7"
Label: Arbor
Country: USA
Price: $5.50
"This collaborative work between US improviser C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core) and European sound artist Lasse Marhaug is one of the most diverse and rewarding efforts by either artist. It is the result of hours of recording, cut up and spliced together, giving the listener a glimpse into various short snippets of the sessions. Harsh quick sonic blasts, violin scrapes and drones, field recordings, vocal exercises, room clatter and more are used in the process, but the way that they are assembled and woven together provides a nonstop experience that goes best with highly concentrated listening. Still the result is so varied that something new can be heard on every listen; a recording so intense you can never truly grasp what is actually happening; most definitely a highlight in both artists discographies. In an edition of 400 7"s in proprinted foldover sleeves with art Jose DeDiego and an insert." -Arbor

Title: Songs 2002
Format: Cass

Country: USA
Price: $6.50
"Double A sided cassette reissue of a severely limited one-sided LP, and what might be C Spencer Yehs most trying, challenging and rewarding foray into a world previously unknown to him, and us: his world of song. Songs 2002 contain what are perhaps subtle homages to early Eno and primo era Bowie vis a vis the studio treatments of the raw sounds with which were more familiar in his previous work. Yehs songs work within two generalized veins: ala Enos early attempts to communicate liquidly within a rigid language and structure as pop/rock, and similar to Keiji Hainos sense of mythos and personal pulse. Recorded over 10 yrs ago, ultimately, these songs can stand aside the most difficult of outsider aesthetics. There is nothing really new here, aside from what is essentially editing and narration. Might just be me, but I think hes found love, both in what inspires him, and a new found expression." - De Stijl.

"Spencer is one wanted cowboy, so he makes more records than most have nosehairs. And many are droney records, which as all record nerds secretly know, are about as tough to lay hands on as your own boogers. But whenever he slides off into the uncharted desert like this, its worth extra attention. Carefully sculpted audio ping pong games are played with scatological rasberry sounds. Toilets flush, wind whistles, straw bubbles spew, Donald Duck talks to you on a fritzed cb radio, and bits of a strangled laugh track flop like dead fish. Go further into the dunes, and skeletal, all-thumbs acoustic guitar licks start to be circled by esophageal vultures who attack the spiney dead. Yessir, lets get lost." - Angela Sawyer, Weirdo Records

Title: Transitions
Format: CD
Label: De Stijl
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"C S Yeh (C. Spencer Yeh) flings open the door and steps inside with Transitions, his first full-length album of songs after years of establishing himself as one of Earths top humans in experimental music and unbound improvisation, both alone and in collaboration, on record and onstage. The effect Transitions has on you may or may not depend on your familiarity with Yehs past work; regardless, his path in music has always been about and rather than or. And the addition to his catalog of work that Transitions represents is nothing short of startling: songs that flit between sculpted guitar riffs and measured, just-shy-of-lush synth-pop, wry lyrics delivered in guileless tones, the remarkable fact that Yeh made every sound on the record. All the same, his most ardent fans will have little trouble understanding the move and recognizing this distinct voice. ‪Its plainspoken confidence and intrepid spirit are as present as when hes carving drones or emitting speckled and serrated noise. Transitions is simply a different form ‬of Yehs unmediated expression. As youd guess, for a career outside guy really coming inside for the first time, Transitions involved quite a bit more behind the scenes strategizing than it would for some indie band on its third album. Think of how English can sound so jarringly beautiful on the tongue of non-native speakers: everything fits even when, maybe especially because things might seem ever so slightly off. Thus we have a new language of melodies, ones of a spirit with say, Slapp Happy, but which wouldnt sound out of place on a Magnetic Fields record. Ultimately, the pop heart on display is characterized by the artful mind behind it - and besides, when we say pop are we talking popular, or populist? Perhaps the space were trying to sketch here could be found between the artists covered on Transitions: Father Yod and the Spirit of 76 and Stevie Nicks. Perhaps citing the varied examples of Jim ORourke, Dave Gahan and the aforementioned Peter Blegvad in artful songcraft could be useful (whether or not they were inspirations). Perhaps were not talking about a space at all, but instead a particular sort of freedom in a music landscape defined by cages and enclosures. Questions, questions - what do we know, were only observers. All thats really clear is that C. Spencer Yeh is transitioning into, not away from." - De Stijl.

Title: Northern Resonance III/II
Format: LP
Label: 8mm
Country: Italy
Price: $26.00
"Yeh and Wesseltoft met in Oslo, Norway, in the cold winter of 2008. Within the combination between the highly dynamic peaks of Spencers violin and the warm, eternal continuum produced by Jons harmonium, they found the key to deliver a flux of epic, organic drones that sound like nothing they have recorded before. Two years later (february 2010), they did it again, same room, same set-up, same magic. The best takes from those sessions are on the two sides of this Lp. This is the sound of the Norwegian fjords, so powerful and bright like a northern resonance, as perfectly defined by its title. The cover artwork by Lasse Marhaug give the final touch to this gem. Ageless. Full colour pro-printed cover, edition of 300 copies." - 8mm

Title: Cincinnati
Format: CD
Label: Dronedisco
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"The cooperative of composer/improvisers John Wiese (Sissy Spacek) and C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core) reveals itself again, presenting a collection of new works titled Cincinnati. So far Wiese & Yehs previous full-length documents have been culled from live performance situations and one could site Cincinnati as the duos first studio album. Recorded face-to-face in late 2007 at Ashworth Tap Room in Cincinnati OH, Cincinnati reveals further unexpected developments and strategies of this ongoing partnership. Familiar machineries were primed, but an increasingly alien attitude was fed through and processed into churning and bewildering shapes. The results of these sessions were catalogued and surgically isolated into specimens by Yeh; a little editing employed to carve the forms somewhat presentable, but no "studio trickery" to mask the organic nature. Mastered by Saff Mastering to sharpen the bulbs and polish the blades, the whole of the fourteen tracks form a monumentally intimate body touched by indeterminate intuition, instant composition, and interior logic. Wiese and Yeh first joined together on a stage in Columbus OH, and since then have participated in the No-FI/CMN "Free Noise" 2007 tour in the UK, as well as fireworks-laden travels through coastal, midwest, and southern USA. With many finished missives yet to be issued, and many ideas discussed but not yet realized, the combined restlessness and curiousity of the team insures that "Cincinnati" gestures not only towards the past and present, but the future as well. Cincinnati is available in an edition of 500 copies in the increasingly alienated compact disc format. The included 8-page booklet contains a pictoral documenting the typical meeting between the two players."

"The malformed compositions of C. Spencer Yeh and Sick Llama come from opposing spectrums of noise music, though their similarities are undeniable. Whether it be Yehs solo piece for violin or Sick Llamas gunked tape work, the spirit of improvisation shines through.  On Yehs track, the churning sounds of metal scrapes and light tinges, like crossed electric static and growing, buzzing drones are the result of one violin.  His unique approach to the instrument marks him as one of the most exciting improvisers today whether it be with his solo work or through his work in Burning Star Core.  Sick Llamas untitled piece is one of his most concise and interesting tracks; crushing and dirty with the hiss of tape static.  Coming from the stoned mind of Heath Moreland of Fag Tapes, the expected tape aesthetic is transferred to vinyl with a compilation of cut up compositions, evoking a series of mystery sound sources.  In an edition of 500 7"s in proprinited fold over sleeves with art by Maya Miller of Heavy Tapes/Religious Knives." -Arbor

"Sounding like Laddio Bolocko playing Aufgehobens songs, this amazing quartet shares a seriously mindblowing connection with the huge underground noise scenery in the United States. This half-an-hour free-form session between these Ohio-based dudes is a long electroshock torture which features Yeh (experimental violinist/electronic musician with a highly growing reputation around the world) playing bass here, Jewell (experimental drummer/electronic musician also involved in Pink Reason and Psychedelic Horseshit) on drums/electronic junk and John Rich/Jon Lorenz (Wasteland Jazz Unit) totally immersed in a hyper-amplified and nihilistic sax playing. Title: At All Ends
Format: LP
Label: Weird Forest
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"At All Ends is the third major record in the Yellow Swans vast body of work. This record is an assured record of chiming drone and heady pelvic sky fuckery. New sounds emerge from the Yellow Swans camp that are more hushed, and whisper with the logic of deep space. Whereas the last record was a laser beam guided minimal transmission with dark overtones, this new release injects sonic clouds full of pink oxycontin. Guitar lines sketch out a melodic vision that stupifies with hypnotic repetition with layer upon layer of rich and dense guitar chug build into multi-orgasm songscapes that leave the loins sore and the mind spent. An exhausting journey into pleasure and single-mindedness. Elements of lush drone stretch the proceedings in vast strokes. Yellow Swans veer towards krautrock territory with this new record, and it will go down in the big books as their most beautiful and vibrant record thus far. beautiful single pocket gatefold jackets with art by Jamie Potter." - Weird Forest.

Title: Dont Cry
Format: 12"
Label: Hospital Productions
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Yellow Tears is the sound of a drop of urine being pushed through an infected urethra. An uncomfortable attraction to the golden realms of natural expulsion, this is the audio collage equivalent of a childs worst day at a carnival as an actionist nightmare of disturbing imagery and sounds. Dont Cry shows these young masters at work carving out sculptures of depravity using god knows what for source sounds. The listener is introduced to a mostly quiet, subtle psychology of fear, childhood trauma and locked cellars. Power comes from the absence the familiar. Separating themselves from narcissistic heard, the band requires decades of therapy to begin to solve their problems. Bad dreams are supposed to be frightening. 12" 45RPM EP. edition of 500." -Hospital

Title: S/T

Label: Ultra Eczema

Price: $29.00
"I have been begging the Massachusetts based acidfolklorist Joshua Burkett to do a record on Ultra Eczema for years. I met him through Ron of Sunburned Hand Of The Man about 5 years ago, when they did a duo radiosession at Radio Centraal, which later got released as a Pewtr Trust CD-R on UE. I was struck by Joshuas mix of shyness, amazing and heavy acoustic guitar playing and his encyclopedic knowledge of weirdo music. His music is usually so silent that it makes you all tense and walk on socks instead of wooden shoes. The Yellowbeard LP is a collection of adolescent/teenage recordings made by Joshua Burkett between 1990 and 1994, probably right before the time he joined Wayne and Kate Village in Vermonster! Some of the recordings were overdubbed in 2008. This is a beautiful collection of collaged scrambled bedroom madness, teenage wilderness, guitar noise, acidfolk, almost psych, organ fuckery, space between the tape deck and the player, outsider beauty! This LP comes with a glow in the dark sticker and an insert in a neon yellow/black fold open silkscreened cover design by Dennis Tyfus, limited to 300 copies." -Ultra Eczema

"First ever reissue of this cult-classic folk/rock album, originally issued by Straight in 1969. Super in-demand for the last decade plus (even if fucking Christgau gave this one a B+ upon release) and now finally available -- buy it now before the cops show up." - FE. "Timely reissue of this late 60s folk/psych classic from husband and wife team Jerry Yester and Judy Henske. Yester had previously enjoyed an element of fame courtesy of his stint with The Loving Spoonfuls, but following the bands demise in 1969, he set about producing this little gem with acclaimed folk singer Henske and a bunch of pals which were said to have included Ry Cooder and David Lindley. Farewell Aldebaran , which is often heralded as one of the most proficient and creative albums of its genre, with Henskes incredible range of vocal styles (during her short solo career she had effortlessly made the transition from comedian to folk singer and then on to an accomplished rock singer) elevating the album to a higher plane. Her mind-blowing vocals on the opening track, the hard-fuzz Snowblind, gives an early clue to Henskes talent and range, and although this particular vocal style only features on the one song, the sheer diversity of her singing makes every track on this highly original and experimental album a unique experience." - Radioactive. Plus a look at Joe Brainards remarkable cover illustration and design, a rare manuscript by Abner Jay detailing his time at the antebellum-fetishizing Stephen Foster Center in Florida, Grouper talking to Ilyas Ahmed, an account of the life and work of poet and educator Nancy Dupree, comics drawn by clients at Portlands Full Life center for developmentally disabled adults (who were given 14 pages to create new work), drawings by J. Bradley Earl of Woods/ Woodsist/ Fuck It Tapes, and a look at the collaborative music of Black Twig Pickers and Jack Rose. Contributors include Erik Davis, Doug Elliott, Justin Farrar, Ross Simonini, Sara Jaffe, Kevin Elliott, Jesse Studenberg, and Michael Neault. The lovely cover is a detail from a new painting by Mingering Mike (image of Pres. Obama as a boxer) plus reproductions of his new Obama-themed works inside. Other art includes full-page illustrations by Tara Sinn, E*Rock, Mark Weakley, Pedro Lourenco, Forrest Martin, Jess Fogel, Sylvie Spencer, and Susan Wilmarth." - Yeti

Artist: YEZDA URFA
Title: Boris
Format: CD
Label: Syn-Phonic
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
⿿Yezda Urfa was/is a Midwestern progressive rock outfit who recorded their debut album ⿿Boris⿝ in 1975 on a shoestring budget, and pressed a few hundred copies with the idea of getting a recording contract and some radio airplay. This effort failed on a massive level but, undeterred, the band pressed on. The album is a bizarre mixture of symphonic progressive, hardcore punk, and even a bit of bluegrass, maybe best compared to a high-speed collision between Yes, Gentle Giant, The Dead Kennedys with a dash maybe of Hüsker Düs ⿿Land Speed Record.⿝ Quirky enough for you? As an on-line reviewer noted: ⿿This music is unanchored in any conventional sense of rhythm, meter or melodic development. This is music that is wildly extreme in its form and style, often manic, but often successful as well. A low budget affair, but the quality of some of this music demands the listeners attention nonetheless. Boris was recorded at the end of what the band describes as their ⿿acoustic⿝ period, and this is what accounts for most of the difference of the material that is common to both of the bands releases. Boris And His Three Verses, Including Flow Guides Arent My Bag, 3, Almost 4, 6, Yea and To-Ta In The Moya all appear on both Yezda Urfa albums⿿on ⿿Boris⿝ they feature a great deal of acoustic guitar and piano in spots that were later re-scored for electric instrumentation. Another difference between the renditions of these numbers on ⿿Boris⿝ and the later versions is the lack of any vocal harmonies on the later efforts. Some of the best elements common to good symphonic progressive rock are, obviously, a blend of electric and acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmonies. These two elements make the earlier recordings on ⿿Boris far better than the later, somewhat slicker versions they recorded. There are other differences as well... keyboardist Phil Kimbrough tends to favor Moog, electric piano and clavinet on ⿿Boris,⿝ while the later recordings feature more synthesizers and organ... and vocalist Rick Rodenbaugh was in better voice on ⿿Boris⿝... and to my ears at least, the tempo of these tunes is ever so slightly slower, just enough to make a noticeable difference for the better.⿝ In essence, an exercise in mad genius and dexterity, from a band who never took themselves too seriously." - Syn-Phonic.

"Understand this: Yoga dispenses a sinister frailty of howling swells in hissing static that combusts into crawling shock heaps, to the effect of Mayhem performing Twin Peaks incidentals in a prairie recorded by The KLF. A brief description casts them as black metals answer to Throbbing Gristle. The texture-based rendering of their compositions sails them on a strange sea between song and sound effect as it bobs along the waves like a dead mans bottled message. Aspects of Goblin rehearsals in dead hills is interrupted as Monster Zero carves mountain sides with lightning breath. Oscillating leads pummel into churning riffs as if "Caledonia" was performed in an echo chamber near Lodi, New Jersey. "After some five years in the making, at last the first official collaboration between Chicago acid-punks PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SOUND and Minneapolis noise/folk guitar legend MICHAEL YONKERS has come to fruition. The sessions for this collaboration began back in 2004, and a seemingly perfect one it is-driving guitars, reverbed static, rippling electronics and Yonkers urgent vocals meld into a freaked-out stew that truly bleeds out of ones speakers. Side two is perhaps even more fierce, as it captures the PCWS and Yonkers first live appearance together at the first Million Tongues festival in Chicago, 2004. Edition of 500 copies." - Spiral Staircase.

Title: Period
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Carbohydrates Hydrocarbons is not only a great collection of punk-induced psychedelia, as heavy as anything can be without sludging to death; it was also the best thing Yonkers had done since Microminiature Love, and a high point of the Blind Shake. A few years later Yonkers and the Shake got together for a brief split/collaborative album on Learning Curve Records. Good stuff but not quite as powerful as the two aforementioned monsters. Now comes Period, Michael Yonkers and the Blind Shakes first full album together since Carbohydrates Hydrocarbons and their best yet. Like Yonkers and the Shakes previous work, Period is tuneful and heavy and punk and psychedelic, but there is also something more. The album has an energy which is dark but not sinister. Yonkers lyrics are intense, even painful, but his voice is strong. The swirl of sound created by his homemade guitar is other worldly, and when woven into the guitar/baritone guitar/drum throb and punch created by the Blind Shake, Period is nothing less than great. Seriously, after six straight months of listening to Period, I rank it up there with such classics of heavy weirdness as Von Lmos Future Language, High Rise II, and Monoshocks Walk to the Fire. Period is even worthy of a listen next to Blue Cheers Vincebus Eruptum. Period by Michael Yonkers with the Blind Shake will stand as a classic. I am sure of that. Vinyl copies of Period are housed in a Stoughton old style tip-on sleeve." S-S

"The second of two startling Yonkers releases is an eight-band LP of solo, modified guitar improvisations. These recordings were picked from a number of tapes representing the entire works recorded by Yonkers that utilized a severely altered Steinberger knockoff guitar (that has since been retired). The music was recorded on a high-speed four-channel cassette machine, further manipulated during mastering. This is the noise record that lucky regional Yonkers aficionados have been hoping for since witnessing his infrequent, brain-scrambling, all-instrumental performances - and then some! Vinyl-only edition of 303 numbered copies in a gorgeous, four-color hand-screened jacket by Minneapolis artist and printer Dan Black complete the scrumptious package." - Neros Neptune.

"Secret Seven Records is proud to release the first ever reissue of the lost psych-folk LP Goodby Sunball by cult favorite, MICHAEL YONKERS. Privately released in 1974, Goodby Sunball was recorded at Yonkers home studio a few years after Microminature Love and just before Lovely Gold. "The music for Goodby Sunball was written during the recovery period following serious spine surgery. The surgery had not gone well, I was laid up for months, and had to learn to walk again. So, the music was written using an acoustic guitar, while laying in bed. When I was able to be up and around more, I started recording the songs...a little at a time. It took about 7 months. I recorded the tracks in the little studio I had in my place. It was all recorded on two-channel, tube type machines (back and forth between machines). The vocals were done in the bathroom, to give an expanded sound."-Michael Yonkers. Limited to 500 copies." -Secret Seven

"When considering Grimwood, itd be a mistake to not also give thought to Microminature Love. Recorded in 68 for Sire, MML languished unreleased until the spring of 2002, when we unearthed it swank on wax (later reissued as a Sub Pop CD). Called the greatest psych record of the 60s by more than a few, its no stretch to say that had it materialized, it wouldve altered the lay of the land. Tho recorded in 69, Yonkers privately released Grimwood in 74, along with 3 other recs: Goodby Sunball (recorded in 71), Michael Lee Yonkers (72) and a duo with Jim Woehrle (73), borders of my mind. If they sold at all, they sold horribly. There is a photo inside Sub Pops MML CD of Yonkers throwing copies of Grimwood up in the air, as theyd seemingly become disposable, as well as a heavy burden to lug around. Enterprising rec collectors have had a run on Grimwood for some time and its been impossible to affordably obtain. So here it is, remastered, digitized and priced for the people." -Destijl

Title: Lovely Gold
Format: LP
Label: Drag City
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"The legend of Michael Yonkers has taken its place among the great stories of underground rock and roll music. Hed been playing rock and roll for nearly forty years when Microminiature Love was finally issued in 2003 (Sire had taken a pass way back in 1968). A thousand noise-rock ears pricked up -- for Yonkers, a reclusive Minneapolis dancer-musician with a handful of self-released records over the years, had seminally prefigured proto-punk/metal/noise through his own brand of amped up garage rock. Since the revelation, Michael has picked up where he left off, exploring blown-out frequencies with collaborators around the globe, and his work has claimed a seat next to immortals like The Fugs, Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and even ol Jimi. What a lot of folks STILL dont know is that Michael put aside his hand-built fuzz boxes and bellowing vocal style in the 1970s to record and self-release some truly curious albums of lilting loner-folk music, including Grimwood, Goodby Sunball and Michael Lee Yonkers. Of this holy trio of albums, only Grimwood has yet seen reissue. Throughout this time, Yonkers layered madrigal-like vocals, simple acoustic guitars, and used electricity in only the most subtle of ways - all to serve his somber, mesmerizing songs. This brings us to Lovely Gold. Planned as the fourth LP in his 70s trilogy, it was never released - a true crime, because it is an exotic work of homespun brilliance. Recorded in 1977 on a four-channel tube type tape recorder that Michael built himself by combining parts of other machines, it is perhaps his most multi-faceted solo album. The trademark Yonkers chug appears (though more stripped-down and dreamlike) and even some spraying acidic guitar on the title track, but the sweeping choral voice arrangements on gorgeous hymns like Will It Be are entirely unique and indeed lovely creations. Whats more, while digging through his archives Michael located previously lost cuts intended for the album, including the harrowing, near-Krautrock glide of Nevermore. Utilizing original photos and the exact layout specs/fonts/and notes of the planned 1977 Lovely Gold release, a lost classic at last becomes available -- once again! How many more reside in the Yonkers vaults? Only time (and Michael) will tell..." - Drag City.

"Originally recorded in 1968 and slated for release on Sire Records, Microminiature Love languished unreleased until unearthed and released in a limited pressing on vinyl only by Destijl Records last year. Our friends at Aquarius Records had the following to say about the vinyl release : ⿿An obscure late-sixties ahead-of-his-time visionary gets his due with this LP reissue. Yonkers stuff was like nothing anyone had heard back then (or even now really): fucked-up garage psych with demedntedly genius lyrics and crazy acid-friend guitar. Yonkers, a legendary Minneapolis ⿿ area figure, built his own effects pedals, cut his Fender Telecaster down to a plank, and playedlinke no one else ever. Im at a loss of words on how to describe this. "Ami Yoshida and Christof Kurzmann are both well-respected artists within the international community, each performing in a wide range of contexts from abstract to pure pop. Both are best known for their long-running duos, Yoshida for Cosmos (with Sachiko M) and Kurzmann for schnee (with Burkhard Stangl). This project finds them in far less comfortable territory, and a s o is the outcome of two years of hard work. a s o contains recordings from the first meeting of Yoshida and Kurzmann in March 2004. The collaboration was a difficult one, partly because of their wildly different backgrounds and partly because of the communication issues due to their language differences. Four translators helped the project along over the course of the two years it took to make this record (Taku Unami, Toshimaru Nakamura, Yuko Zama and Kae Uchihashi). Although it was a long and complicated journey, the end result is very organic and accomplished. a s o contains an extremely broad range of abstract approaches from both artists, resulting in a wildly different soundworld from any of their previous recordings, and has been beautifully captured as always by recording engineer Christoph Amann. The impeccably minimal yet lush CD design is by Hirozumi Takeda, utilizing images provided by Asuna." - Erstwhile.

Musically its mostly a solo release by Yoshimi (featured on steel guitar, vocals, shell syntheizer, percussions, electric guitar, shaker, bell, whistle, drum machine, keyboards, drums, field recordings, etc.). The music is a soundtrack to a documentary movie of the same name; the movie focuses on the women of Yunnan, a remote area in southern China -- near Tibet, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. This movie (which is included as the DVD in this 2 disc set) is 42 minute film with various street shots of these Yunnan woman -- in the markets, looking at food, in the fields and just standing around in total elegance, in the most colorful clothing imaginable -- with no-narration or overt linear intention. Title: Electric Day
Format: LP
Label: Bureau B
Country: Germany
Price: $18.00
"LP version on 180 gram vinyl. The Bureau B label reissues Yous Electric Day, first released in 1979 on the small German label, Cain. As synthesizers grew more popular from the mid-70s onwards, an increasing number of groups swapped the classic instruments of a rock band for sequencers and synthesizers. Pioneers (and paragons) of this electronically-created music included, of course, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Manuel Göttsching et al, who represent the "Berliner Schule" (in contrast to the Düsseldorfer Schule which developed around Kraftwerk and company). A hitherto less celebrated, yet outstanding exponent of the Berliner Schule was the Krefeld combo You. Udo Hanten and Albin Meskes teamed up with another iconic figure of electronic music, Harald Grosskopf, to issue two fantastic albums as the 1980s began. Without disowning their Berlin role models, You nevertheless came up with their own hypnotic mix of sequencer patterns, synthesizer melodies, pulsating drums and sporadic acoustic guitar phrases. Now and again they even ventured into experimental territory. Tracing Yous path from the idea of founding a band to the release of their first LP, one encounters a host of illustrious characters from the electronic/Krautrock music scene. Peter Baumann, for example, a member of Tangerine Dream for so many years, was the first to hear the material played to him by Hanten and his guitarist Uli Weber at his Paragon Studios in Berlin. They also met Harald Grosskopf here, a member of Rolf-Ulrich Kaisers "Kosmische Kuriere" and former drummer with Klaus Schulze. Grosskopf was a member of Manuel Göttschings Ashra band at the time. Which just leaves the sound engineer, the legendary Conny Plank. It was he who suggested that You and Grosskopf get together to set up the Spiegeltraum Studio in Krefeld, with Grosskopf supplying the recording gear and Hanten the musical equipment. Grosskopf completed Synthesist, his most famous work, before You recorded Electric Day halfway through 1979. It now appears with four CD-only bonus tracks on Bureau B. The musicians: Udo Hanten, Albin Meskes, Uli Weber, supported by Harald Grosskopf (using the pseudonym Lhan Gopal at the time)." -Bureau B

Title: Time Code
Format: LP
Label: Bureau B
Country: Germany
Price: $18.00
"LP version on 180 gram vinyl. The Bureau B label reissues Yous Time Code, first released in 1983 on Rock City Records. A hitherto less celebrated, yet outstanding exponent of the Berliner Schule was the Krefeld combo YOU (Udo Hanten, Albin Meskes). Their debut album Electric Day immediately launched YOU into the elite echelon of Germanys electronic music scene. It would take four years for them to deliver their sophomore LP, entitled Time Code. If Electric Day was characterized by Harald Grosskopfs pulsating drums and Uli Webers solo guitar, Time Code emerged as an altogether more electronic affair, with both Grosskopf and Weber having left the project. Reduced to a duo, YOU largely remained faithful to their style, but expanded upon it. Time Code displays more range and variation than its predecessor. Downtempo and faster numbers alternate and sugar-sweet melodies are followed by expanses of ominously dark or crystal-clear synthesizers. Hanten and Meskes new sound was further refined by the use of drum computers and the omission of guitar. The album perfectly illustrates the transition of electronic music from the 1970s to the 1980s. Sequencer patterns owe much to the legacy of the Berlin School (Berliner Schule), while the synthesizer and drum computer sounds heralded the advent of the new decade. The level of interest and excitement was particularly high in Italy, where songs from the album featured heavily on the radio. Listeners were clearly impressed by "Live Line," which has resurfaced in various techno productions over the past 20 years, either as a cover (by Diolac Duvai, for example), or as "Elektro Message" (by Gigi DAgostino)." -Bureau B

Title: Hidden Love
Format: LP
Label: Parts Unknown
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"From the Great White North and the twisted mind of a one time child actor comes "Hidden Love" the first 12" EP from Young Governor. While no doubt people will jump to comparisons of Jay Retard, Home Blitz, and Kurt Vile, that is doing Young Governor a grave diservice. The perfect summer record just in time for summer, "Hidden Love" is the perfect blend of pop, singer songwriter, lo-fi, and dare we say folk. Ben Cook the mastermind behind it all has been a busy boy indeed. Its a wonder that he finds time to write and record not just Young Governor material but also releases music under the banner Bitters, all the while being a full time member of the much heralded outfit Fucked Up. Wonders will never cease and you will no doubt find yourself humming aloud the songs of pure pop class demonstrated here after just a few listens." - Parts Unknown.

Title: Travelers Advisory
Format: LP
Label: Drag City
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Mixing a hammered dulcimer and a drum machine makes no logical sense. Taking your lyrics from instruction manuals is not a good idea. Covering Michael Hurley in 1986 is about as out of step with the times as you can get. And yet... somehow this 25-year-old 12th-century/folk/electronic album feels perfectly up to date and dare we say...cooler than anything else youll hear this year! Drag City and Yoga Records proudly present Matthew Youngs Travelers Advisory. Recorded at home, made and distributed at the end of the first age of vinyl, Travelers Advisory is a startlingly original work: an utterly unique mix of vocals, dulcimer, banjo, Casio synths, and electronic drums, Matthew played every instrument & recorded every note. A graphic designer by trade, he too created the album artwork. Aside from a few traditionals and one cover version, Young composed everything. The haunting song Young chose to cover, Werewolf, comes from another original, Michael Hurley, approximately 20 years before Hurley came back into fashion with the kids. The striking blend of electronic & traditional should appeal to fans of Arthur Russell; another pioneer responsible for an unlikely wedding of drum machine and cello. Opener Objects in Mirror does indeed evoke Russells intimate home recordings compiled on the posthumous Calling Out Of Context. So much private press music comes off as the result of some sort of vanity -- private press is often nothing more than code for vanity press. Hearing Travelers Advisory, one is struck by the vivid image of an artist who is full of ideas and learning how to express them as he goes along out of a sense of necessity. Young is the receiver and transmitter of strange ideas drifting in the ether, and renders them quite understandable to any open-minded listener." -Drag City

"The latest solo recording from NATE YOUNG, founding member of Michigan noise legends WOLF EYES. This record represents a new direction for Young, as he deviates from trademark aggressive murk-and-misery sounds of his previous works, and instead opts for a queasy, subdued zombie lullaby consisting of bizarre rhythms, synthetic melodies, and almost gamelan-sounding ritual sleepwalking. Featuring an epic closer with contributions from past & present Wolf Eyes members AARON DILLOWAY and JOHN OLSON. This is a record to sit and get absorbed in, a non-linear travel through a different place altogether. Mastered by LUPO at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin." -NNA.

Mystiphonic is the fruit of two years of recordings at Youngs Isophonic Sound Laboratory in Brooklyn, "comprovisations" which are more electronic than the previous EM releases, and yet this new LP retains Youngs emotional life-long horn playing, a romance which began in his youth in Kansas City. Also carrying on from previous releases is the all-encompassing warmth and organic/oceanic feeling of Youngs music, a rootedness that has been present since his early exposure to Charlie Parker, on through his San Francisco years and ever forward, linking past, present and future through deep American soil to his world-embracing current music, all united through his "Isophonic" philosophy. The Mystiphonic blend of electronics, percussion and horns is one of subtle beauty, sure to please Youngs fans while attracting new admirers." -EM.

It was the A-Bands third live show and we were calling ourselves Advent for the evening in honour of a local record shop who - judging by their filing system - thought they were stocking an album entitled Richard Youngs by Advent rather than Advent by Richard Youngs. For reasons that escape me now, Id hoarded 171 used train tickets. It felt like a cool idea to read them out. So I did. Not in the privacy of my own home, but to an audience. They seemed to enjoy it. "Jagjaguwar is excited to reissue Richard Youngs Advent , Youngs very first record originally released in 1990 in the vinyl format on Youngs own No Fans label. Only 300 LPs were released initially. It was then later released on the Table Of The Elements label and quickly went out of print. It became a true underground success story, a critical darling, with Alan Licht, for example, putting it on his minimal top ten list in the publication Halana. Simply put, it is an essential work in the body of work of one of the most important modern day progressive minimalists. Includes a new essay by Richard Youngs. A three-part composition for piano, voice, and ultra-nasty oboe and electric guitar, Advent indicated signs of life in a genre long dormant in the 80s experimental scene. It continues the tradition from [Terry Rileys] Reed Streams on down with gusto. --Alan Lichts Minimal Top Ten List, Halana.

Format: LP
Label: MIE
Country: Scotland
Price: $26.00
"MIE are delighted to be releasing the excellent Amaranthine on vinyl on the 16th January 2012. Richard is one of our favourite artists on the UK experimental scene and to release this new, singular work by the man himself is very exciting for us. Bringing rhythm to the fore, Amaranthine is built around layered percussion and Youngs ever present vocals. The asymetrically patterned underlay is scored for drums, household objects and handheld percussion; at points scything fuzz guitar cuts through the sense of ritual with abandon and deep synths bubble up out of nowhere before dissipating into solo shakuhachi. Amaranthine is another typically atypical Youngsian release in which he ventures deep into uncharted musical space, all the while retaining his essential Youngs-ness."- MIE.

Title: Autumn Response
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"A spartan folk-pop record filled with tinder-box intimacies, composed of some of the shortest songs ever recorded by Richard Youngs. The simplest form of trickery comes from Richard Youngs restrained use of an acoustic guitar, bringing it back to Youngs basics. Twenty-six seconds into I Need The Light, the first track off the album, the listener is confronted with the pivotal element of the record, the drawing line between the hardcore Youngs purists and fairweather fans: the track, like others on the record, features Youngs double-tracked voice splitting in two -- as one overlaid performance veers away from the other. This gesture warrants such a title King of the Progressive Minimalists -- which is often used beside his name by critics -- as the confident inclusion of such an effect grants it legitimacy. Youngs voices slipping away from one another is on par with other intense representations of singularity such as Donald Judd and Malevichs Suprematicist Composition: White on White. Pop is a gesture, a stance, a pose. Autumn Response is a singer-songwriter album, as Youngs fingers slip over the steel strings with little feet and whispery toes, his gently prophetic songs evoke Roger Waters and the folk phase play is sure to appeal to fans of Animal Collectives Sung Tongs." - Jagjaguwar. 2007 release.

Title: Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Make a proper pop album." Thus was the simple dare handed to Richard Youngs from his friend Andrew "Paz" Paine during their weekly Sunday meet-up. Ever the modest master, Youngs said in accepting this friendly challenge that he merely endeavored to capture the "beats and hooks" of contemporary pop. We present the results here as Beyond The Valley Of Ultrahits. Among bright, hypnotic loops, Youngs voice finds its inner Bowie. But let it be known: this collection of house-inspired gems displays much more than a capacity for pop emulation. Its a confirmation of Youngs craft and prowess, no matter the terrain. With enviable grace, experimental minimalist Youngs sets his sights on the pop world and claims it as his own. Youngs heretofore unknown love of Pet Shop Boys and the Madchester sound is reimagined via his unique avant sensibility and atmospheric wand strokes. Originally released in 2009 as a very-limited CD-R on Paines Sonic Oyster label, Jagjaguwar is honored to present Beyond the Valley of Ultrahits, remastered and on vinyl for the first time." -Jagjaguwar

"With scores of releases both solo & in collaboration that stretches back for more than 20 years, Richard Youngs perhaps needs the least amount of introduction of any of the artists Root Strata has worked with. Were extremely excited to help Richard add another singular entry into his discography. Core to the Brave hits with a shock and never lets up. Composed of what appears to be blown out bass & spastic drum rhythms, these tracks cascade into shimmering loops of distortion, their weight reaching a critical mass that often feels likes its on the verge of ecstatic collapse. Everything is elevated further in & up by that one and only voice, floating over top like a lush wind come down from the mountains." -Root Strata.

Title: Festival
Format: CD
Label: Table of the Elements
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"For this recording, Scotsman Richard Youngs brings a mixture of emotive balladry and avant-garde sound collage to the fore. Guitar feedback and distorted synthesizer drones introduce the album, suggesting it may be tough going, especially given that their is a high-pitch tone that could shatter windows cutting through the mix. The largely instrumental album switches down a gear from the courageous experiments that see clock chimes, Casios, and electric guitars interweaved, and the drones give way to the lilting ballad "Sea Is Madness" -- which has a heartbreaking refrain that resonates with the same desperation as Robert Wyatt performing "At Last I Am Free." This closing track could easily bring one to tears if it werent so distractingly intricate with its minimalist phasing effects. Wondering if Youngs could top this monumental achievement, he subsequently explored this reduced song style further on the album Saphie and floored his fans with his ability to write heart-wrenching ballads as well as being a super-sonic noise architect. Festival is certainly a standout in his expansive catalog. Coming as it does on Table of the Elements, one could only expect a genre-defying exploration." - Sylvie Harrison, All Music Guide

Title: Like A Neuron
Format: LP
Label: Dekorder
Country: Germany
Price: $18.00
"Richard Youngs is a prolific British musician (located in Glasgow) with an extremely diverse output. Dusted Magazine once wrote he is "defying strict genre classifications since the early nineties, swapping labels, styles, partners, motifs, and recording techniques as the desire has struck him". So his new album for Dekorder might not be a surprise to anyone following his career. Still, a self-proclaimed all-electronic "ecstatic House record" comes somewhat unexpected. With a line of distinctive synthesizers often used for Techno/House Music Youngs recreates the energy, euphoria and frenzy of these styles without ever trying to recreate the music note by note. The final outcome sounds like recordings made by aliens who have received transmissions about House Music but never listened to the music itself. The album reminds of the sound of hallways/corridors inbetween large House parties where you can hear the music from several floors collide. While its an emulation, interpretation or replica of House Music, its still managing to evoke similar feelings even though some might find it difficult to dance to the music. In the past, Youngs has released several albums on a dozen labels such as VHF, Jagjaguwar, Table Of The Elements, Gipsy Sphinx, Majora, Chocolate Monk, Celebrate Psi Phenomena, Fusetron and his own No Fans outlet. He has collaborated with Neil Campbell (aka Astral Social Club), Matthew Bower, Simon Wickham-Smith and many others and was a member of the A-Band and has performed live and in the studio with Sunroof! And Skullflower. Additionally, Youngs played bass for Jandek, appearing on three of his live records/DVDs. Limited edition of 500 copies!" - Dekorder.

Title: River Through Howling Sky
Format: CD
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"If the musical real number line is infinitely dense, then the most recent work of Richard Youngs endeavors to fill in all of the holes on it. River Through Howling Sky is Youngs latest full-length. It returns to the more meditative and drone-y side of his songcraft (circa Sapphie (1998) and Making Paper (2001)), although this is no true devolution: all of his recordings to date have some measure of these qualities. So what is it that sets River Through Howling Sky apart from its predecessors? It is the density on the recording, both intra-spatial and otherworldly. The howling guitar that points unerringly to some imagined horizon line. Throughout, Youngs is the calm and steady wolf, chanting odes to infinity. Expose the ancient Brotherhood of Pythagoras to River Through Howling Sky , and you would find knowing nods, pursed lips, and secret incantations in caves. An unwitting acceptance that not everything is rational or conceptually circumnavigable. Our western tonal system relies on ratios, i.e. strings whacked at particular intervals. Youngs howling guitar and circular chants -- with the help of a spartan amount of percussion and electronics -- may just encompass all the possible ratios and, mystically, more." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Rurtain
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"At this point in time Richard Youngs should need no introduction. Through his vast discography (spanning over 20 years), he has created a fascinating body of work which has found a home on labels such as Forced Exposure, VHF, Jagjaguar and his own No Fans imprint. Like all great artists, Richards work is hard to pin down and continues to evolve, mutate, and blossom into new forms, while at the same time bearing a unique characteristic that lets you know it could be by no-one else. Split into two parts, Rurtain is a new electronic piece which picks up from where the Core to the Brave LP on Root Strata left off, but taking a more abstract road into something more skeletal and strange. In the first part, broken beats cluster around minimal hits of percussion and wordless vocals that sound like theyre trapped in a vacuum, evoking a slightly unsettling atmosphere. Things become a little more celebratory in the second part with the addition of some very erratic organ playing, giving an ecstatic and almost "free-jazz" feel to the piece. The B-side features three very different interpretations of Richards originals by Neil Campbell (Astral Social Club), John Clyde-Evans and Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never). Neils version expands the organ of the second piece into a huge kaleidoscopic drone, while John hones in on the woodblock and percussion to make something more metallic and abrupt. Finally, Daniel Lopatin closes the LP grandly by adding violent stabs of digital synth and melancholic guitar-playing to Richards voice, almost creating a kind of futuristic ballad. Five tracks of unclassifiable electronics, limited to 300 copies. Recorded by Richard Youngs, Neil Campbell, John Clyde-Evans and Daniel Lopatin in Glasgow, Yorkshire and New York, 2011 - 2012. Mastered by John Hannon at No Recording Studio and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering." - Alter.

Title: Beating Stars
Format: LP
Label: HP Cycle
Country: Canada
Price: $14.00
"Beating Stars is the second release by Richard Youngs and Alexander Neilson and finds the duo working a celestial vibe over the albums four tracks. The LP begins with a cosmic folk interpretation of the traditional "Rolling In The Dew", with Richards voice transplanted amongst electronics, acoustic clatter and steady minimal percussion. From there the record ventures into more abstract territories where hovering electronics, searing guitar and explosive drumming all meld into a psychedelic haze. The album concludes with the side-long "Sent Onto The Stream", a twenty-two minute journey of skittering percussion and sustained tones of bent frequencies. Pressed in an edition of 420." - HP Cycle.

"Oh yippee... another demo to listen to. I have to confess that listening to music can be a chore sometimes. After a hard evening on the 8-track all I can usually bare to put in my ears is the easy-listening pleasures of Judas Priests greatest hits. However, having witnessed these two weave such a serpentine spell under Jandeks live morose wanderings, would it be wrong to expect a little magic from these two? JESUSMARYJOSPEPH! What was supposed to be a quick listen as I tidied up the shed turned into an hour or so of utter drooling epiphany. I was typing my yes! yes! YES! email before the end of the second song! The finest Richard Youngs record since Lake and Advent... which I suppose means EVER, saddled high on the horse with the glorious ear of master collaborator, Alex Neilson. Shimmer, hum, twinkle... so SO masterful. These two should be knighted by the Queen. Gah... muh... awww, the english language fails me. Absolutely superlative." - Campbell Kneale.

"Holed up in Glasgow, probably in a black-consumed tenement flat, Richard Youngs and Andrew Paine deliver a sacrament as they usher in the long dark night. This slow thirty-seven minute journey is a beautifully cold concern, the chilly sound of bells, spidery percussion and high tone drone giving this an emotionally barren air. Rumour has it that the vocal parts, the musical moans that drift in and out of the albums single track, were recorded blind - the music muted as the pair worked. The title is possibly a play on the word channel, the album sounding more like the séance channelling of a void rather than any underwater adventure between England and France. Although the more I think about that the surer I am that Im wrong. Like a single outstretched hand reaching out from the black of the void, Paine and Youngs cast a spell through the polycarbonate. 8/10" - Scott McKeating (20 August, 2008).

"For the past eight years Andrew Paine and Richard Youngs have met on almost every Sunday and recorded music. Mauve Dawn is the result of ten meetings during 2004. Its nine tracks feature processed epinette des vosges, glockenspiel, vintage keyboards and guitars alongside granularly synthesised household objects hacked together with resonated voices and filtered bells in a stereo field heavy on ring modulation. One part of the Mauve trilogy, this is an instrumental album of classic length." - Richard Youngs & Andrew Paine.

"Paine and Youngs dont fulfil the expectation of pastoral views of the title on this disc, instead creating an electronic aural of an MRI scan. All three tracks are ruled ring modulated lines, multiple signals wound in kiss-and-tell streams. The transmission theyve titled "Norfolk Sunset" has a distracted chill to it, mundane phrases and words chopped and reverbed as layering comes and goes. As electronic waves are bounced down through the track it becomes hard to follow any of these fleeting thoughts to end-of-sentence conclusion. As with much of their collaborative material theres a genteel feel to the music, even when it walks the more confusing paths. Like plugging a mic into the brain whilst manipulating sines with the other hand, the closing "Old Girton Fayre" is wet crawling early electronics. How they quite manage to summon up pre-dusk gentle rain through this tracks sounds is 8m 15s of unexpected genius. So that rustic-hinting title isnt too far from the mark after all. 8/10" - Scott McKeating (30 July, 2008 ). Title: 20 Years
Format: LP + 3xCD
Label: VHF
Country: USA
Price: $34.00
"20 Years celebrates two decades of music from RICHARD YOUNGS and SIMON WICKHAM-SMITH, featuring four previously unreleased albums. The set includes the first new vinyl from the pair in almost 15 years, plus three other projects (presented here on CD) that were all completed and intended for release by the duo in the 90s, but fell by the wayside for various reasons. 20 Years, the newly recorded LP, is one of the heaviest, most uncompromising records of the duos long career. It consists of eight electro-acoustic reworkings of their first (unreleased) recording from 1987, and is a blistering set of tracks as wild and weird as anything theyve ever done. The SMIRR CD features four epic instrumentals in the vein of classics such as LAKE and Asthma and Diabetes, flowing with extended grandeur, mixing drone and eccentric instrumentation in the duos immediately identifiable style. Songphases ten simple, lovely tunes are a reminder of their considerable "trad" songwriting and performing prowess. While Youngs has worked in this style on his solo efforts, hearing Wickham-Smith match him track for track is a revelation. "Dream Song" is among the formers most moving pieces. Finally, LIVE!!! is a head-scratcher of an album, recorded live in-studio in full-on Dadaist style--extended clavinet mania, Casio jams and plenty of outre expression. This set is packaged in a gatefold jacket with essays by DAVID KEENAN, NEIL CAMPBELL, MARC MASTERS and JON DALE and an extended interview with Youngs and Wickham-Smith. The CDs are housed in a custom-bindered insert in the pocket opposite the LP, with each disc held snug in its own die-cut pocket, and the audiophile-quality LP was cut by JOHN GOLDEN." -VHF

Tracks like the immortal college freak-out Dance: Help the Aged (Give Them A Heart Attack), the minimal pulse epic Chord, and the psych-fuzz rock mania of Goat have been undiluted in their majesty by the unbearable decade that has elapsed between then and now. "Debut album from the duo of Richard Youngs and Tirath Singh Nirmala (nee John Clyde-Evans) that has the pair creating a bucolic minimalist meditation. Side one interchangeably features hammered strings, gong/cymbal washes, droning vocals, and breathed shackuhachi/flutes. The second side leads with a melodious encounter before delving further into a glimmering psychedelia with sawed strings, fluttering reed organ and electronic drift. The results resemble a non-western approach to traditional musics filtered through the personalized aesthetic that runs through each of the artist?s prior works. The LP is enclosed in a full colour cover with suitable "of the earth" imagery." - HP Cycle.

Title: Electric Lotus
Format: LP + CD
Label: VHF
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"This epic double set combines an LP of all-electric rock mayhem with a CD of subtle drum/shakuhachi tracks. Electric Lotus is the YOUNGS and NEILSONs self-proclaimed "rock" album, and it is a mind-boggling clutch of guitar/bass/drums demolition. Coming off like an amphetamine-fueled Guru Guru, the music tumbles out in a crazy quilt of stun-level attack zonage, especially on the side-long "Electric Lotus." Neilsons staggering free-drumming hits a new peak here, stepping beyond his laudable work with Jandek, Bonnie Prince Billy, etc., into new realms. Youngs lights it up with raging guitar and bass action, including some deeply psychedelic leads and heavy riffing. Lotus Edition is a companion CD of restrained and completely live duos for drums and shakuhachi. A couple of the tracks feature the kind of long notes, bowed cymbals, and other droneage heard on previous releases like Partick Rain Dance, but in a stripped down live setting." - VHF

Title: Site/Realm
Format: LP
Label: VHF
Country: USA
Price: $10.00
"Someday, the meeting that occurred between these two guitarists will be legendary. For now, its only available on the archaic 12" LP format. Matthew Bower has been carving great big swaths of sound into the collective unconscious of hundreds of young people for over a decade. His work with Skullflower, Total, Sunroof!, etc ranks as some of the most memorable and durable (not to mention enjoyable) of the "noise" era. Richard, on his own and with assorted collaborators, has been busy issuing creative and personal missives from a practically unknown and unexplored corner of the universe of sound. The music on this thing is two side long tracks for electric guitars. "Site" bakes the listener with radioactive waves of high pitched and droning feedback. After a few minutes, a zen like peace emerges from the noise, causing the listener to fall into a deep trance which induces thoughts of flowers and birds and peace and stuff. "Realm" works a slightly less dense tangent on the two guitars as atom-splitters formular, but still manages to throw off all sorts of sparks. As if all of that bragging about the music wasnt enough, the record comes housed in a beautiful fold-out jacket, lovingly hand screened and assembled by Charlestown MAs Kristin Anderson. You know her work from various Poon Village and Sound@1 releases, Ill bet. 2 tracks, about 50 minutes." - VHF.

Title: Relayer
Format: CD
Label: VHF
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The second collaboration between these two stalwart titans of the true UK underground comes eight years after their first pairing on the Site/Realm LP. The title no doubt a nod to the odd resemblance of seven-year-old Rosalie Bowers cover art to another LP of the same title, this Relayer throws out the live methodology of the earlier LP for a dense set of layered studio recordings. Like the music of Matthew Bowers Sunroof! group, the tracks are rainbows of colors and textures with string drone, percussion, bleeps, and the unidentifiable, competing in a mix devoid of the traditional lead with backing schema. Many tracks have the kind of welcoming electronic bed seldom heard since the demise of Harmonia, with ring-modulated fuzz bleeping away over a chugging, but non-oppressive beat." - VHF.

"Youth of the Beast is pure primitive electronics, suffocating saxophone scrawl and epic percussion. Acting as the solo output for Raccoo-oo-oons Andy Spore, this record is YOTBs first vinyl offering following up a few tapes on Night People and Fuck It Tapes. Blistering vocal screeches and mixer feedback blasts meld with stray tones as brass wails and drums are pounded. Spore is a master of channeling the spirits right into the basement where he crafts his jams, creating a captivating mass of noise and psychedelic signals crossing for a painfully beautiful 10 minutes. Breathless sax solos and massive tribal percussion interspersed throughout. The sum of all these parts is something intense, unknown; an ever evolving sonic creature as bleak as it is restless. In an edition of 315 records with EPIC xeroxed double sided/double foldover (youll understand it when you see it) sleeves and printed labels by Spore." - Arbor.

Title: Obscure Tape Music From Japan Vol.4 - Music For Theatrical Drama
Format: CD
Label: Omega Point
Country: Japan
Price: $22.00
"Joji Yuasa composed for some theatrical drama in his early years. This CD contains two works of them, "Mittsu no Sekai" (Three Worlds,1959) and "Oen" (A Woman named En ,1963). "Mittsu no Sekai" is constructed from orchestral composition and tape sound : music concrete. This midsection seems industrial music. Actually he was influenced upon Edgar Varese in his earliest years. On the work "Oen", all the metamorphosed sound made from concrete sounds are used and combined for a tragic story of a woman in Edo era, named En who was put in prison for forty years. This music concrete work aims not only depicting the situation, but also lighting up heroines dark passion, conscious and subliminal mind and psychological demension. Their deep sound materials are made from amplified innerplayed piano, snapped long coil and others. track 1-10 : Joji Yuasa "Oen" (1963) / 2812" track 11 : Joji Yuasa "Three Worlds" (1959) / 2142" - Omega Point.

Title: Obscure Tape Music of Japan Vol. 12
Format: CD
Label: Edition Omega Point
Country: Japan
Price: $27.00
"...Miniatures Of Concrete Works. Edition Omega Point presents work by legendary Japanese composer Joji Yuasa -- one of most important composers in Japan after World War II. "Nadja, Twincling in Stars" (1963) is the incidental music, by NHK Radio, based on "Nadja" by Andre Breton who made "Declaration of Sur-Realisme." The actual chart of constellations was played by three players (violin, piano and vibraphone) which was used as the music score. Birdsong, electronics, and sound generated from inside the piano using music concrète techniques were constructed at the NHK Electronic Music Studio where Yuasas first so-called pure electronic piece "Projection Esemplastic For White Noise" was made in the same year of 1963. "Music For A Cenotaph For Industrial Victims" (1972) was set in the woods of Tama Hills, in the suburb of Tokyo. The music consists of echoing wooden bells in the woods, made from lowered marimba moderated by square wave, various metamorphosed sounds reminiscent of industrial work to accompany the offering flowers by the attendants, and again, more reverberant sounds of wooden bells. "Music For The Main Pavillion Of The Okinawa Oceanic Expo" (1975) is a musique concrète work which was made for the Oceanic Expo in Okinawa prefecture in 1975. Folk music with an indigenous stringed instrument (Jamisen), voices of various sea birds, the engine sound of a boat, and metamorphosed instrumental sounds reminiscent of the wind and waves combined with orchestral chamber music. Italian folk song "To The Sea" is arranged for chamber orchestra and recorded by the composer as an important sound source of this work. Limited edition of 500 copies only." - Omega Point.

Title: Obscure Tape Music of Japan Vol. 14: Background Sound...
Format: CD
Label: Edition Omega Point
Country: Japan
Price: $27.00
"...In Textile Pavillion Of EXPO 70. At the EXPO 70 in Osaka, many avant-garde artists contributed architectural, space, environmental design and sound works. In the Textile Pavillion ("Sen-i Kan" in Japanese), Japanese composer Joji Yuasa and filmmaker Toshio Matsumoto presented a remarkable experimental event, "Space Projection Ako" for multi-channel tape music and image projection. Also included in the presentation at the Pavillion was background sound for several spaces and objects, composed by Joji Yuasa, mainly. This original master tape was provided by Yoshimasa Matsumoto, the sound operator at the Pavillion, who was also a sound engineer for 60s film and television which included "Ultra Q," "Ultraman" and others. For the first track, "Music For Pattern-Slide Monyoh," abstract textile images were projected on the walls of a corridor ("Monyoh" means graphical patterns). This concrete sound was composed specially for this space. "Music For Colourful World" (by unknown mixer) was played and recorded by three electric guitar players. "White World" involved the same interior space as "Colourful World," except it was painted white, in contrast to "Colourful World." Music for this room was made out of sound material from "Projection Esemplastic" and "Icon For White Noise," both important electronic works from Yuasas early years. "Voices Of Dolls" featured a group of tall, gentleman-like dolls set in a lobby space, accompanied by meaningless text in Japanese, English and Portuguese coming out of them. The Japanese version is a part of Yuasas concrete work, "Voices Coming." An English version (by Joseph Love) and a Portuguese version (by Joaquim M. Benoetez) were recorded for this project. For "Voice Of Raven Objects" (by unknown mixer) the artist Masunobu Yoshimura created ravens and arranged them here and there on the Pavillion. The accompanying sound was made from modulated Noh chant and lines from a story coming out of the mouths of the ravens. "Background Sound Of Central Dome" was taken from events such as "Space Projection Ako" that took place in the dome space of the Pavillion. This background sound was prepared from marimba modulated by a square wave. Premiere recordings on disc, housed in a cardboard paper gatefold sleeve in an original design. Includes newly-written liner notes in Japanese & English. Limited edition of 500 copies." - Edition Omega Point.

Title: Obscure Tape Music of Japan Vol. 1: Aoi-no-Ue
Format: CD
Label: Edition Omega Point
Country: Japan
Price: $27.00
"2010 repress. Volume one of Omega Points Obscure Tape Music of Japan series, featuring Joji Yuasas "Aoi-no-Ue" (1961) and "My Blue Sky" (1975). Joji Yuasa (b. 1929) is one of most important composers in Japan after World War II. "Aoi-no-Ue" was composed for experimental theater at Sogetsu Art Center. The sound of this work is made from the chants of Japanese traditional "Noh" theater. "The text is recomposed by me keeping the original words. And it was sung in the style of Noh-chant by three brothers ... This work is composed mainly based on the metamorphosed sound of Noh-chant. The other sound is concrete sound such as bird songs, water drops, glasses, the warped sound of a vibraphone, some generated electronic sound and others. These sound sources are diversely changed, metamorphosed through all the possible electronic techniques at that time, and finally mixed and reconstructed on stereophonic tape. This piece had taken almost half a year to complete, working with the excellent sound engineer Zyunosuke Okuyama at the Sogetsu Art Center." --Joji Yuasa. This package also includes his final electronic music piece "My Blue Sky No.1," made at NHK electronic music studio. This studio was the 60s and 70s mecca of Japanese electronic music. Yuasa explains: "In this work only clicks, pulses and the various kinds of beats induced from them -- varying pitches, width and their frequency of pulse -- are adopted. For example, I controlled successively occurring pulses of low frequency sine wave by means of triggering with the frequency of the square wave." Limited edition of 500 copies for this second edition. Housed in a cardboard paper gatefold sleeve in the original design. Newly-written liner notes in Japanese and English by the artist himself. New and quite different cover art for this second edition by Ryuhei Yuasa." - Omega Point.

"Calling the three members of Yuganaut ⿿multi-instrumentalists⿝ is a little too easy. What is needed is some kind of word that would connote being multiple bands. Between them they could be a small brass group, an electric chamber ensemble or a straight-ahead jazz trio. But such formal confines may not leave room for the moments of playfulness or the passages of spacey psychedelia that sneak in between their evocative and highly original sounds. Between them, band members Stephen Rush, Tom Abbs and Geoff Mann play Fender Rhodes and Moog synthesizer; trumpet, trombone and tuba; bass, cello and violin; and drums, toys and didgeridoo. Does that sound streamlined? Their previous release also included mandolin, euphonium and vibes. More important than the listing of implements is the fact that the three gentlemen of Yuganaut are more than conscientious about leaving room in the music, not just for each other but to let the music grow. Between them they can boast of Reggie Workmans tutelage, performance with the Warsaw National Symphony and membership in the Fela-inspired Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra. Which is to say there is tradition, formalism, groove and a sense of fun at play. They are at core, perhaps, a jazz band; but being a jazz band means (or should mean) that anything is possible. Theres ritual, theres storytelling, theyre contemplative, extrapolative, expressive, even impressive. Yuganaut is not here to be pigeon-holed. Theyre just here to play for you. Yuganauts first album, This Musicianship (ESP 4044), was released on ESP-Disk in 2008. Personnel: Stephen Rush (rhodes, moog, trombone, toys) Tom Abbs (bass, cello, violin, tuba, didj) Geoff Mann (drums, percussion, trumpet)" - Engine. Limited to 100 copies, in silkscreened jackets.

Title: Memai
Format: LP
Label: Midi
Country: Japan
Price: $32.00
"The last remaining copies of Yura Yura Teikoku backstock vinyl from MIDI Records in Japan. These records are totally out of print. A uniquely Japanese sonic hybrid of Jimi Hendrix, Murahachibu, Neil Young, Les Rallizes Denudes, 13th Floor Elevators, and 60s Japanese pop, Yura Yura Teikoku have amassed a tremendous Japanese following in Japan but remain criminally unknown elsewhere. Former PSF and CAPTAIN TRIP recording artists, Yura Yura Teikoku, have spent the last 15 years honing their experimental yet infectious ecstatic pop-psych sound. Their early work on PSF and CAPTAIN TRIP is compelling but pales in comparison to their later, brilliant recordings from MIDI Records. All of these release were recorded at Soichiro Nakamuras (of Japanese psych legends WHITE HEAVEN) Peace Studios with YOU ISHIHARA (also formerly of WHITE HEAVEN) producing. Yura Yura Teikoku bass player Chiyo Kamekawa also plays in THE STARS (PSF) with Ishihara. Co-conspirator MICHIO KURIHARA of GHOST plays second guitar on a number of Yura Yura Teikoku tracks as well. Singer/guitarist Shintaro Sakamoto is also an accomplished visual artist and his illustrations decorate the covers of these beautiful full color EP and LPs. All releases are on color vinyl and/or picture disk." - Mesh-Key. The two 10"s are from 1999, the two Picture Discs are from 2001 and the other 2 LPs are from 2003.

"Available for the first time outside Japan, This 2003 hour-plus live recording captures (Yura Yura Teikoku) at the height of their powers" - Mesh Key. ⿿From Japan springs forth the greatest band in the world, Yura Yura Teikoku. I have profound love and respect for this band⿿s music and I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought me.⿝ - Michio Kurihara, THE STARS/GHOST/DAMON&NAOMI guitarist. ⿿Yura Yura Teikoku is Japan⿿s sensational, psychedelic, pop-noise explosion that Western ears have never heard. The sheer amount of noise generated by these three mere men has become stuff of legend in Japan: only Yura Yura Teikoku could pull together a sound this brutal, this large and make it into something this meaningful, this unique.⿝ - W.D. Marx, THE FADER.

Artist: YUSSUF JERUSALEM
Title: A Heart Full Of Sorrow
Format: CD
Label: Born Bad
Country: France
Price: $16.00
"2010 release. A Heart Full Of Sorrow is a disillusioned album for broken hearts. This is the work of Benjamin Daures, heir against his will of a tradition of loner in the vein of Ian Curtis, through Morrissey, to Kurt Cobain. Made in his suburban bedroom while smoking joints, A Heart Full Of Sorrow is a first album, dreaming of other places (Death Valley or the dry plain of Texas) as a way to escape local boredom and the gloominess of Paris outskirts. These are drafts of ballads, thrown on a 8-track like break-up letters to teenage years. Benjamin plays all the instruments: a skullish drum machine, a shy guitar, and unconfident vocals. When you listen attentively, you will understand that the fragileness is the force here. This is about sincerity, nakedness, and about not hiding behind the primitive energy of garage rock -- to put back songwriting into angrily-played songs." - Born Bad.

Title: Blast From the Past
Format: LP
Label: Floridas Dying
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"The first 7" I put out on Floridas Dying was a split with Buttercups and The Creteens (Benjamin Dauress band at the time). 2008s "Heart Full Of Sorrow" was the first LP released on Floridas Dying, and if I have things my way a Benjamin Daures LP will be the last thing I ever put out on Floridas Dying. Benjis a life long friend and a brother till the end. That being said it is with great satisfaction that I release the follow up to "Heart Full Of Sorrow" on Floridas Dying. "Blast From THe Past" is nine more tracks of beautifully sad pop songs about chivalry, death, and heartbreak that manage to successfully integrate Norwegian black metal, Rocky Erickson, french pop, and spaghetti western guitar work into one incredible album. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!" - Floridas Dying.

Artist: YVES/SON/ACE
Title: Parade of Thoughts/Cant Sleep
Format: LP
Label: Night People
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Yves/Son/Ace is a solo outlet from the Factums/Love Tan camp out of Seattle. Less an experiment in synth noise and drone then the"Cold Showers" Night-People cassette, Parade of Thoughts/Cant Sleep evokes a sort of deconstructed synth pop aesthetic. Druggy, hushed vocals float over vintage rhythm machines, synth noise goop, and lost world music radio tones. Minimal, isolated, deranged, and savage, Yves/Son/Ace is junk pop music for a disconnected world full of detritus and longing. A subtle sound that grows in your skull like fungus on rotting wood." - Night People.

Artist: YXIMALLOO
Title: Fangs Of Lucifer
Format: LP
Label: Old Gold
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
A surprising and well deserved reissue of 1981-86 era tracks by Naofumi Ishimarus project of 20 + years. Imagine a cross between prime Half Jap (Jad Fair even supplied the cover art to some of his tapes from the early 80s) with the some of the more electronic LAFMS projects and youll get the gist. Beautifully packaged as well. "Naofumi Iziwaru was another one of the first to respond to Old Golds formative request for musical submissions. With dozens of releases under the name Yximalloo dating back to the 1970s, Nao had put a transdimensional dent in the cassette underground and his collaborations with Jad Fair raised more than a few wooly eyebrows. He sent us numerous tapes and they put us on the floor in a puddle of our own souls crying out for more, rethinking our own music making, and asking to please - please! - let us re-release his music. This resulted in five tapes of our own hand-picked smorgasbord, resequenced at his request. When he began making CDs, we tackled the daunting challenge of compiling about 40 minutes worth of his best music from digital and analog to marry on clear vinyl. It took several years, a lot of late nights, and handfuls of reverse/fast forward, but in the end, we were happy, Nao was happy, and now you can be happy, too dammit. Electronic clank, off kilter funk, galactic babble, pre-historic riddims, utterly melodic snatches of techno wizardry are here set forth. Most were sold in Europe; grab what few are left from Fusetron. Comes in clear bag with clear inserts with track listing, musician credits (no small feat that!), and instructions for a performance piece called Fangs of Lucifer which we dare you to try, but not unsupervised." - Old Gold. "Its dada and Romper Room, punk and situationist, naive art and sophistry. Eccentricity is just the beginning." - Thomas Peake.

Title: Unpop
Format: CD
Label: ESP-Disk
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Yximalloo is a one-man mysterious phenomenon. He has maintained obscurity, even though he has been making and recording music since the 1970s and his champions include artists as diverse as Jad Fair (Half Japanese), Momus, and members of Animal Collective. This is Yximalloos first recording in 9 years, and it is his first to include his one-man-band sound of guitar, laptop and vocals. It builds on his primitive trance-like rhythms mixed with offbeat pop sensibilities by way of crude electronic sampling. A true masterpiece, a modern-day Moondog off the streets of present-day Tokyo, London, NYC, and wherever you happen to be." "Hes John Lee Hooker with a synth, Wild Man Fischer with a bone. Hes totally central and totally unknown." -- Momus. 8-page booklet with notes by Momus and art by Jad Fair." -ESP-Disk
