Artist: O BANDO
Title: O Bando
Format: LP
Label: Shadoks
Country: Germany
Price: $44.00
"Originally released in Brazil, 1969. Numbered edition of 500 pressed on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a heavy sleeve with a double-sided insert. "O Bando was recorded in 1969 in São Paulo by 5 guys and a beautiful singer, Marisa Fossa. The production was state-of-the-art, hosted by one of the 3 top producers of Brazil. For 1969 it was recorded in Scatena studios in São Paulo with 8 channel equipment, which was the best you could get at this time. The music has sophisticated brass arrangements, very much on the same level as US bands Chicago Transit Authority, The Flock and Blood Sweat & Tears, with the charm and rhythms of Brazil exotics. If you like the album by Liverpool, this one would be for you. A real summer record, should make the stoned psychedelic listener move his hips and dance or at least nod their feet. Great guitars, smashing vocals, Samba rhythm, horns, tons of effects, a real trip to Brazilian underground music. One of the best!" - Shadoks.

Title: 1977-1980: A Day In The Life Of Gilbert & George
Format: CD
Label: Artpop!!
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"A complete collection of the early works of Edward Ball, including his chums Daniel Treacy and Joseph Foster. Recording ground breaking DIY singles together as the TV Personalities, O Level and the Teenage Filmstars in the late 70s, this triumvirate of pop entrepreneurs later launched or co-founded the Whaam!, Artpop!, Creation and Revola labels -- quite literally inventing a syndicate of sound and ideas that reverberated gently throughout the 80s, violently throughout the 90s and inescapably today. Including the original released recordings of the We Love Malcolm EP as O Level, the Teenage Filmstars singles Cloud Over Liverpool and I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape, this Artpop! package doesnt disappoint, reissuing the original Revola compilation from 1992, plus previously unavailable extra tracks. Also containing extensive recording documentation, quotes from all involved and a plethora of pictures." -Artpop!

"To be performed, Takemitsus score must be realized, either ahead of time or improvisationally; what ORourke plays here is his own Tokyo realization of the piece; there is also a well known London version recorded by Roger Woodward in 1973, reissued on CD in 2006 by Explore Records." --Seth Tisue. "A tape composition from 1992 (originally released on CD) now issued in a revised LP version on Three Poplars. Limited edition clear vinyl in a special dyecut sleeve with insert. 1000 copies. ... As I walked out, I thought Ive really started now, and I dont know where I am going to sleep tonight. I felt excited, but also a little unhappy and alarmed. I wished I had not started out in the evening. I had been planning my tour all the weeks that I had walked to and from school in the squalid London streets. I thought, I shall get away from all this and wear only a shirt and shorts and not go near anyone for weeks and weeks. I had a longing to hide myself in some very isolated place, and I thought immediately of the Lakes. I wanted to go to them, but cant remember what made me finally change my plans and go to D. instead...." - Three Poplars.

"O Voids is probably the 1st band outta Montreal Ive heard this year. Their approach & sound seems pulled right outta 82-83 American post punk, not all that dissimilar to Mission Of Burma. Ive no doubt there are certain masonic like devotees who believe that NO ONE could EVER deliver like MOB & that a mere comparison to Bostons most hallowed band of all time are the words of a heretic. Guilty as charged, bub. What can I say? O Voids remind me of Mission Of Burma & sometimes thats a good thing. Even on here."-Siltblog. Edition of 500 copies.

"UK ambient group O Yuki Conjugate were formed in 1982 by Tim Horberry, Roger Horberry, Clare Elliott and Andrew Hulme. The result includes a reissue of their first two albums with bonus tracks, two additional full length LPs of unreleased material, a 7" single of their first ever recordings, a DVD featuring excepts from their Scenes in Mirage and Peripheral Vision videos, as well as large-format poster and detailed listening notes that give a unprecedented insight into the world of OYC. Artist: O.R.D.U.C
Title: Pink & Purple
Format: LP
Label: New Bulwark
Country: Netherlands
Price: $25.00
"O.R.D.U.C. was founded in 1971 and stands for One-O-Seventh Royal Dutch Underground Company and was led by Nicko Selen, who ran also the label, and later IF Records, along with friends who played guitars and drums. Highly naive electronic music, partly inspired by krautrock. At first O.R.D.U.C. was a band which wanted to play a mixture of Frank Zappas and Pink Floyds music from the late sixties. But after the initial members had left, Nico Selen decided to go on with O.R.D.U.C. as a project for experimental music." - http://433rpm.blogspot.com. Original copies of this obscure LP from 1981, edition of 500 with insert. O.R.D.U.C.s first recordings were on the V/A "17 To 7 On 33" 7" (Plurex/1980).

Artist: O.W.L.
Title: Of Wondrous Legends
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Limited edition 180 gram vinyl version. Proof that theres still excellent albums out there to discover. Drawing mainly on art rock and early light-prog aesthetics, O.W.L deliver an ambitious song cycle which at its best transforms into dazzling psychedelia. A pro-level recording and elaborate arrangements that utilize keyboards, flute, vibes and multi-tracked male vocals make for an appealing surface, and unlike the typical Moody Blues derivates, theres lots of personality and depth. The mood is cerebral and refined, but the commitment and songwriting should impress even those with no immediate love for the genre (like me). The dominating style is dreamy melodic prog-rock like the British album Spring, but the vocal style and ghostly soundscape may at times recall Freeborne and Time on Shadoks, while the chamber music intimacy reflects a possible Pearls Before Swine influence. Theres more keyboard than guitar, which is typical for the style. Impressive on many levels, with hypnotic Eastern lysergia on Midnight Carnival, the albums epic center-piece. The artist was formerly with the pre-LP Mountain Bus, and recorded this as the first in a projected series of albums. --Patrick Lundborg, author of The Acid Archives. Of Wondrous Legends is a Chicago baroque psych classic recovered from the dustbins of history. To the few who have heard it, it has earned comparisons to Tim Buckley, Pearls Before Swine, and 60s British prog-folk. O.W.L was founded in 1968 on Chicagos north side by Stephen Titra. A founding member of the beloved Midwestern hippie jam band Mountain Bus, Titra left that band just as their Dead-inspired, bluesy jams gained serious regional traction in order to fully devote himself to the inward-looking, singular vision of O.W.L. Of Wondrous Legends was recorded at Chicagos Universal Studios over a six month stretch in 1971 and a handful of test pressings were produced and circulated, but despite serious interest from a number of major labels, this gem went unreleased. The passage of time only further helped ensure the albums place in near total obscurity until a copy of one of the test pressings was unearthed in a Chicago junk shop in 2004. Following several years of collaborative efforts on this lost epic, Of Wondrous Legends now sees its first public release after some 35 years of obscurity. Mastered from the original source tapes. Features copious liner notes and vintage photos." -Locust

Artist: OAKEATER/YELLOW SWANS
Title: Split
Format: LP
Label: Black Horizons
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"A rather appropriate unearthing takes place on this record, as YELLOW SWANS are posthumously paired up with Chicagos OAKEATER. First up is Yellow Swans, with a single side-long track that should please fans of their later, brighter more psychedelic sound as well as those of the more rigid, structured and even melodic sound found on their final LP. Masterfully mixing huge guitars, shards of mixer feedback and discreet loops. Oakeater on the flip side performs the funerary rights with three tracks that fall somewhere between a satanic ritual and a cosmic synth trip, with meditative vocals, throbbing synthesizers, and distant piano lines. On the label and art/design end this was a collaborative effort between Black Horizons and Dead Accents. Comes packaged in a custom euro-style sleeve, offset silver ink on black linen paper. Black vinyl with silver on black center labels in an edition of 500 copies." -Black Horizons

Artist: OATH
Title: s/t
Format: CDR
Label: Oath
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Amazing debut solo release from the most under-recorded member of Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice. Satya Sais Oath project couldn?t be further removed from the psych folk boogie / blues of her husband Wooden Wand or the deliriously red-eyed improv of the extended Vanishing Voice or even her work with her heavy psych band Totem. Satyas solo work leaves folk music behind entirely - think Let The Power Fall-era Fripp, Mort Garsons Black Mass, Adelbert Von Deyens Planetary Best, Bobby Beausoleils Lucifer Rising soundtrack, Louise Huebners instructional LPs, and even occasionally some of Burzums weirdo experiments in MIDI. The bulk of Oaths self-titled CD is heavy, creepy synth exercises with Satyas trademark vocals, with occult lyrics echoing and overlapping into a nightmarish song cycle, complete with a curveball instrumental cover of the Daddy Cool / Spectrum prog classic Make Your Stash, with guest Wooden Wand on bass. Limited to 100 copies, and a teaser for Satyas eventual full length LP on Yik Yak. Certainly with this release, Satya proves herself to be the best kept secret of this far-reaching tribe. 100 copies."

Where did he go after this record was finished? Why did one of the greatest rare record dealers in the world insist hes seen a second Justen OBrien album? Title: Deceiving Illusion
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"A thousand years ago, in 2006, Michigan moonlighters Odd Clouds drizzled down their LP opus, The Cavernous End. Within the sphere of open-eyed freeform organized psych-jazz sprawl, nothing compared. Years later that album still kills, but not much has followed in its wake (there have been some loose tapes but those are more in the crude basement fuckaround vein). So we are personally xxtremely pleased to be able to finally offer up the bands latest album-length affair, Deceiving Illusion. A six-song spelunk into the deranged group brain responsible for noise scene mainstays like Fag Tapes and Tasty Soil Records, Illusion rumbles through a hall of mirrors of zones/styles, from freaky garbage punk to robot throat games to motorik brass meditations to unhinged 70s German commune beardo psych-blazers. The journey is the destination and all that. Abuse yr Illusion. Black vinyl LPs in 3-color pro-silkscreened jackets with artwork by Chris Pottinger and Jamie Easter, plus a double-sided photocopied insert. Edition of 400."

Price: $58.00
"Numbered edition of 500, heavy gatefold sleeve on 180 gram vinyl with 4 page insert. Originally released in Iceland, 1970. This self-titled album was the only one that Icelandic progressive rock trio Odmenn ever released. It was made at a critical point in Odmenns history when the band members had agreed to take a sabbatical year while the guitarist studied law at the University of Iceland. They got together for the last time a year after the album was released and split up directly after having played only one gig. Odmenn was formed in early 1966 by the Johannsson brothers playing the most popular music clubs in Reykjavik. Most of Odmenns music could be categorized as protest songs or social studies, touching topics like anti-war protest and fights against pollution, greed and deception balanced with more positive stances like hope for a better world with love and eternal brotherhood. Psychedelic guitar pieces had become their trademark. Odmenn recorded this double album in Copenhagen with a release late December 1970. Odmenn made a great impression with their blooming mixture of energetic blues rock and was probably one of the best progressive rock bands in Northern Europe. 15 great songs released as a double album with massive 4 page insert and many photos never shown plus long liner notes." -Shadoks

Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Rose Mansion Analog
Country: China
Price: $15.00
"This is the real deal — completely blown out guitars and organ, frantic breakdowns, hypnotic chord sequences, and some of the best Lou Reed-styled guitar Ive heard in forever. From building repetition to wide open grooves, this thing is pure energy." - Foxy Digitalis.

"The Offset: Spectacles are probably the most stubborn band in Beijing. Their brand of precisely overblown Cantonese rock n roll condenses the urban scream of their native Hong Kong into blasting surrealist bangers that are as captivating as they are uncompromising. In concert, the band dispenses with pleasantries like stage banter or directly facing the audience and challenges the clangor of the Chinese capital with their own cathartic racket. Inspired by the massively influential Chinese band P.K. 14, the Offset: Spectacles moved to Beijing in 2009 in search of like-minded musicians. Within two years, they had started Rose Mansion Analog with three other Beijing bands: Soviet Pop, Hot & Cold, and Golden Driver. The boutique label is dedicated to analog recording and reproduction, documenting Beijings thriving scene through the lo-fidelity, one-room-and-a-mic tradition of early blues recordings. On stage, Vince Li and Ah Kis guitars strut and snarl against the steady pulse of Ou Jians bass, producing a darkly cinematic sound thats forceful and driving. The group aims for what they call “phantom rhythm”: without a drummer, the roaring percussive clash of pawn-shopped 1960s guitars gives the impression of ghostly snare-hits and echoing cymbals." - Noisey / Vice.

Artist: OGI
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Medical
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Originally released in 1980 on EMI France, the OGI LP (OH-JEE-EYE) is the work of Hungarian-born PETER OGI (pronounced as "ohgee"). Peter Ogi obtained formal education in music composition at the Budapest Music Academy and quickly thereafter formed the very early Hungarian punk outfit, the SPIONS. Though never documented on tape, the Spions were considered very important in the Hungarian music scene. In the late 1970s, Peter began traveling back and forth between Paris and London where he worked together with legendary producer of the Sex Pistols, MALCOLM MCLAREN. Their collaboration was integral to the creation of the OGI LP. It was recorded in Autumn 1980 at Pathe Marconi Studios, Boulogne. The album was composed by Peter Ogi with lyrics written by Malcolm McLaren on over half of the tracks. Unfortunately, the record was criminally overlooked most likely due to its French-only release. It is now being reintroduced for the first time in over 30 years. The LP is a phenomenal creation of synthesized pop. The albums opener "King Kongs Fear" creates the mood with minimal synth leanings and unusual hooks that set the stage for an adventurous slide down the synthesized rabbit-hole. The 2nd cut "Resist Dance" was also a 7" single and is a standout track of infectious catchiness. Officially licensed from EMI and features re-envisioned front and back cover art. This reissue is over one year in the making and is lovingly presented on high-quality 180-gram magenta vinyl in a hand-numbered limited edition of 650 copies." - Medical.

Artist: OHIO PENITENTIARY 511 JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Title: Hard Luck Soul
Format: CD
Label: Jazzman
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"If musical accomplishment is anything to go by, the members of the Ohio Penitentiary 511 Jazz Ensemble would immediately be given their pardon. Their privately-pressed LP from 1971 is a legend in obscurity, and a master class in what can be achieved in the most trying of circumstances. The 511 Jazz Ensemble was made up entirely of serving prisoners in the Ohio State Penitentiary. It was founded in 1971 to give those prisoners with musical aptitude an opportunity to be productive and creative. Band leader Reynard Birtha was originally from North Carolina, where he played in a band called The Outer Limits before getting into a scrape with the law and being incarcerated by the local sheriffs office. During a stint on a southern-style road gang, he escaped and ended up in Cincinnati, and through a mutual passion for music, he met fellow musician Logan Rollins, nephew of jazz legend Sonny Rollins. They became friends and jammed at local clubs before both ended up in the State penitentiary, for reasons not entirely clear. At the time it was customary for musicians to visit the prison and give concerts, especially during the Christmas period. Reynard remembers renowned musicians such as Art Blakey and Kai Winding giving recitals at the prison. These visits were not only a source of entertainment for the prisoners, but they were also a source of inspiration for musicians like Reynard. He and Logan formed the 511 Jazz Ensemble, incorporating the remnants of the prison Pit Band. Reynard recalls that "the number 511 was the P.O. box address of the prison, and we would perform in the yard during every holiday, while the prisoners marched around and got their food." Both Reynard and Logan had been to music conservatory and could read, write and arrange music as well as play in any musical key, unlike most of the rest of the band, which gave rise to difficulties in keeping the project going. However, with their enthusiasm and perseverance came success, when the visiting Ohio State University Band were so impressed after jamming with the inmates that they returned to make a record. Funding was put forward by a wealthy club owner and his conglomerates from Columbus, microphones and studio equipment were brought in from the outside and the recordings were made in the auditorium of the prison chapel. Unfortunately, as far as the business side of things was concerned, Reynard admits he was "green" and didnt receive any payment for his efforts. In fact, to this day he has not even seen, let alone owned, a copy of the LP, the album which contains his sole recorded output. "All I knew what to do was how to read, write and play music." The Hard Luck Soul LP was the bands only recording, and the group disbanded after the release of Logan and Rollins. The music on the album comprises of four long tracks, each allowing the soloists to express themselves without restriction. Free of chains at the time the music was made, the result is a unique, compelling insight into the freedom that jazz can afford, giving a sense of hope and liberty to free and incarcerated men alike." - Jazzman.

Artist: OHKAMI NO JIKAN
Title: Mort Nuit
Format: CD
Label: Fractal
Country: France
Price: $17.00
"Ohkami No Jikan is a Japanese psychedelic group led by Asahito Nanjo (vocal, guitar, bass, keyboards, composer, producer). Nanjo is the leader of many other groups, including High Rise, Musica Transonic and Toho Sara. Apart from Nanjo, the line-up is not fixed but varies according to the concept that the group is following at any particular time. Members of many Japanese underground groups, including Fushitsusha, Les Rallizes D/nud/s, Toho Sara and Holy Angel have participated in Ohkami No Jikan, pursuing different musical approaches. Depending upon the members and concept the sound of this unique group varies dramatically, the one constant is the vibration created by Nanjo. As a psychedelic group that explores all music, from heavy, dark sounds to jazz, contemporary and experimental, Ohkami No Jikan occupies an important position in the Japanese underground scene. After only three tracks available on compilation (Tokyo Flashback 2 PSF, Japan:new psychedelic underground Manifatture Criminali & Live from the devils triangle, Vol.2 KFJC-FM), Mort Nuit is their first album. They concentrate on the heaviness of minimal music : a dark group textures that psychedelicise the gap between the silence of medieval music and the dynamism of 20th century composition." - Fractal.

Title: Choju Gigaku (Play On Animals)
Format: 7"
Label: EM
Country: Japan
Price: $17.00
"Em Records presents a slice of lost history unearthed for your enjoyment and delight. A first-ever reissue, on limited edition 7" vinyl of Choju Gigaku (Play On Animals), an ultra-rare 33rpm 7" flexi-disc by esteemed sound designer Matsuo Ohno, the legend behind the soundtracks for anime classics Astro Boy (1963-1966), Submarine Cassiopeia (1964) and Space Battleship Yamato (1974-1975). The original flexi-disc was released as a souvenir during the famed World Expo 70 in Osaka (think Stockhausen and Xenakis), but was available for only a brief time and soon disappeared, an object of rumor and mystery for collectors. As befitting Expo 70s remit as a meeting of world cultures, Ohno chose 6 well-loved Japanese and international songs -- and rendered them entirely in animal and bird sounds, using analog tape recordings. Choju Gigaku contains equal measures of musicality, magic, madness and mayhem, with domestic and barnyard animals combining their natural and pitch-shifted voices with the calls and cries of a multitude of birds. Eschewing musical instruments, Ohno utlized Japans first variable-speed tape recorder to create these melodies, adding delay and reverb to the warm analog mix. The five songs on Choju Gigaku are "Sekaino Kunikara Konnichiwa," the theme song for Expo 70 originally sung by Haruo Minami, the Japanese traditional songs "Sakura Sakura" and "Yagi Bushi," an Italian song "Funiculi, Funicula," the Russian "Volga Boatman" and an American classic "Oh My Darling, Clementine." Recording in Sogosha studios (his production company) in Aoyama, Ohno was ably assisted by avant-garde composer/musician Takehisa Kosugi (Taj Mahal Travellers, Merce Cunningham and many others), who was an integral part of the recording process. Housed in a full reproduction of the original triple gatefold sleeve with liner notes newly written by Matsuo Ohno (in 2011)." -EM.

""I am not interested in sounds that already exist." Thus spoke the esteemed "Onkyo designer" Matsuo Ohno, early in his expansive, influential career. This reissue of his stellar 1978 LP I Saw The Outer Limits presents him at the peak of his powers, combining his mastery of classic analog tape music techniques (honed to perfection while providing sound design for Astro Boy and numerous other films and TV programs) with then-state-of-the-art analog synthesizers. This is a true under-recognized classic, a masterfully recorded, massive-sounding poetic construction of unearthly sound -- an undulating, breathing behemoth, with Ohnos galaxy moving beyond "sounds that already exist" in search of new sonic spaces. Title: I Saw The Outer Limits
Format: Double CD
Label: EM
Country: Japan
Price: $29.00
"Mind-stretching analog synth wizardry from the legendary Matsuo Ohno, sound designer for Astro Boy and many other Japanese films and TV programs. His first non-soundtrack release, from 1978, is a massive, undulating galaxy re-released here on CD with a bonus mini-CD reissue of a rare 1970 flexi-disc Play On Animals, rated as one of 2011s top releases by Byron Coley of The Wire. This reissue of his stellar 1978 LP I Saw The Outer Limits presents him at the peak of his powers, combining his mastery of classic analog tape music techniques with then-state-of-the-art analog synthesizers. This is a true under-recognized classic, a masterfully recorded, massive-sounding poetic construction of unearthly sound, a breathing behemoth, with Ohnos galaxy moving beyond "sounds that already exist" in search of new sonic spaces. Matsuo Ohno was born in Kanda, in central Tokyo, in 1930. The relentless bombing onslaught of the war years, the near-apocalyptic conditions, were defining, formative forces. As a youth he was interested in Surrealism and philosophy, and was uninfluenced by music and musicians -- an exception being the electronic works of Karlheinz Stockhausen. Other early influences were the film director Fumio Kamei and the dramatist Michio Kato; rather than viewing himself as a musician, and never studying under any masters, Ohno forged his own path as the original "onkyo sound" artist, defining himself as an "onkyo designer" in the 1960s. His innate independent streak manifested itself early on, when, chafing under creative restrictions, Ohno left a prestigious post at NHK, Japans national broadcaster. But of course, his skills were in high demand and he was extremely busy as a freelance sound designer for a wide range of films, television shows and radio programs, developing his ear and his technical savvy. In 1963 he began his most famed efforts, providing sound design for the legendary Japanese animation series Astro Boy, with Takehisa Kosugi as his assistant. I Saw The Outer Limits was the first full-length non-soundtrack release by Matsuo Ohno. The record was a huge step for him, being non-programmatic music, designed to stand alone, free of visual imagery. Ohno himself has stated that he was uninterested in notions of message, expression and representation. Shinji Hinoki, a producer at Toho Records, approached Ohno with the offer of releasing an album; Hinoki perhaps envisioned something to cash in on the popularity of the synth-driven elements of Pink Floyd -- what he got was something much more abstract and otherworldly. Hinoki supplied both title and subtitle, including the latters variant spelling of "marijuana," a ploy to evade Japanese censors. On these recordings, made at Sogosha in Tokyo, his private studio, Ohno used the EMS Synthi AKS, which at that time in Japan carried a price close to that of a family car, the newly-released Roland System 100 (three of these, in fact), and a custom-made synth. He combined these synthesizers with his virtuosic control of analog tape recording techniques, resulting in a magnificent LP. The original vinyl release was, however, somewhat marred by 50 Hz hum generated during the mastering process at Toho Studios. This EM CD reissue restores the masterpiece to its primal, clear, massive glory. Housed in a foldout thick paper sleeve. Liner notes and biography in Japanese with an English translation. The bonus disc is pressed on a mini-CD (8cm) and packed in a triple foldout sleeve, in the same style as the original 1970 issue, and is inserted in the EM 1098CD sleeve." -EM

Artist: OIL TASTERS
Title: S/T
Format: CD
Label: Lexicon Devil
Country: Australia
Price: $13.00
"Originally issued by Lexicon Devil in 2005. The Oil Tasters only existed between the years 1980-1983 and managed to release two 7"s and an LP in their lifetime. Out-of-print for well over 20 years, Lexicon Devil stepped up to the plate in an attempt to reintroduce this mighty Milwaukee juggernaut back into the general public with a CD compiling all their long-deleted catalog. A three-piece with the unusual line-up of bass/vocals (Richard LaValliere), saxophone (Caleb Alexander) and drums/backing vocals (Guy Hoffman), Oil Tasters set the Milwaukee scene alight in their day with their trailblazing mix of Dada-esque smart-arse lyricism, avant-garde jazz rhythms and skittering, punk-rock energy which blended together to produce a unique, unprecedented sound. Both Richard and Guy had spent time in the late 70s in The Haskels, Milwaukees original punker outfit, and when that band called it a day, they decided to take a less orthodox musical approach. Roping in friend Caleb Alexander on saxophone (who actually learnt his trade from another 70s Milwaukee habituate and wildman, James Chance aka James White/Black of The Contortions) and inspired by a strange mixture of old Dixieland jazz, Coltrane and post-punk a la Public Image Ltd., they created something really different from the then-emerging cookie-cutter punk scene. Sonically, you could throw a few names around: in Oil Tasters one can hear traces of John Lydons snarl in the way LaValliere barks out his sarcastic tomes; the menacing, angular punk-funk-jazz of the Minutemen, especially so in the meaty, Watt-ish bass lines; and the Dada art-rock styling of Pere Ubu ca. 81/82. This release comprises both of their self-released 7"s and their subsequent LP released on Joe Carduccis excellent Thermidor label (they were actually recommended to Carducci by his good friend, Jello Biafra), all of which have been newly remastered at Dex Audio in Melbourne from the original reels which, funnily enough, had spent the last 5 years collecting dust on the shelves of none other than Henry Rollins office. Huh? The CD reproduces the front cover of the original LP, contains an 8-page booklet with liner notes from longtime fan Keith Brammer (of Die Kreuzen/Boy Dirt Car) and Richard LaValliere himself, a plethora of band flyers and photos and a full 40 minutes of surrealist, one-of-a-kind post-punk."- Lexicon Devil

"Amazing sitar psychedelia from the early 70s. Dutch hippie Okko combined his instrument, sitar, with rock and electronic elements. The result was a tremendous album with some cool original tracks like Ganges Delta, Himalaya Highway or East Indian Traffic, together with a couple of brilliant Beatles covers, all of it with great sitar of course, but also Moog, tablas, flute, guitars, bass and drums. The album should please anyone into psychedelia, rock, sitar sounds and funky sitaresque stuff ala Ananda Shankar in its most rocking version." - Okko.

"If Skip Spence were somehow, instead of finding his white-frocked self stuck in the rat-infested hole that was Bellvue, transplanted to the pine forests north of Duluth in a sonic nest of gimbri, bells, shakers and clothed in Tibetan silk, one would come slightly closer to the reality of Jakob Olaussons migratory whims. To be sure, that foggy and only slightly inland empire of synapse-twisters like Ben Chasny offers a step on the trodden trail, but this isnt the same road weve traveled before. Olaussons huge ears protect him from the cold and keep the sun from turning his face to a series of desert crags, as his compositions slowly fade down the walls of four-track bedroom artistry into atemporal suites that shrink huge expanses and are a bellows to the microcosmic. Enter the Moonlight Farm." - Destijl.

Title: Moonlight Farm
Format: CD
Label: Destijl

Price: $12.50
"Jakob Olausson is a farmer in the south of Sweden, from Landskrona, and he works there in the fields of sugar beets. Not to re-hero-ize the life of the prole, but the workday sun has had a clear influence: Moonlight Farm is a rec made on a dime, in a dime-sized bedroom apartment, and it transcends all the limitations that that scenario has thusly taught us to expect. A real "statement", in the micro-politics of personal resistance / expression in a globally commodified life, and were here to sell it to you. Moonlight Farm is comprised of ten songs, somehow both comforting and unsettling, concerned with the classic subjects: the garbage, the flowers, ones mother, and the love of them all. Laid thick with a vague dissonance, they possess a mask of fog / haze, but the trail between writer / performer / song is not often trodden in such a deftly crystalline manner. Enter the Moonlight Farm. "From one loner to another, this is everything that the phrase private press conjures up and more. A modern classic. " - David Keenan / The Wire. "Well, no reason for me to make music anymore. This kid hit it." - Ben Chasny / Six Organs of Admittance. Jakob has toured extensively thru Europe and somewhat thru the States, sharing the stage with Samara Lubelski, Times New Viking, MV EE & the Bummer Road, James Blackshaw, Charlie Nothing and many others." - Destijl.

"At some point all great explorers, from Amundsen to Kishan Singh Rawat, come to an opening up and cast their minds across a big space. A clearing, a promontory, a look out from a place no ones been before. Jakob Olausson ventured deep on Moonlight Farm, his debut for De Stijl in the winter of 2005. His singular expression returns on Morning and Sunrise, an explorers codex, a gaze through to whats more important and less seen. The path yet traveled and the sun arcing over it. Morning and Sunrise is a different record from Moonlight Farm. Neither progression nor the preferred natural progression describe how. There is more electric guitar and it really whisks at your earbones, the playing is beautiful. Jakobs singing glows more. It gives light and shows love as it reassures, makes no false promises, says: You can be understood. Honest as the elements, whether you count four or 118. Words like loner will be hung on Morning and Sunrise, and thats okay, we associate clarity this potent with solitude. And this could be the most lucid psychedelic record ever, morning is just so clear, and anyway, its not really loner, because you are there all along. Dont we all just want to know how the next person gets along? Come out into the morning and see." - De Stijl.

"Old Apparatus are a four-piece audio/visual collective transmitting from East London that have been releasing bass-oriented electronic dance music on Malas underground label Deep Medi Musik. This edition for The Tapeworm is an improvised instrumental piece using guitar, piano, violin and found sound ambiences recorded entirely in the front room of the house they share together. Given that most forms of electronic music are bound by linearity and grid-based digital audio workstations, Old Apparatus consciously embarked on an exploration of non-linear forms of musical expression. Title: Songs For Nadine
Format: LP
Label: Milvia Son

Price: $9.00
"Milva Son is pleased to present the first appearance of Bob Frankford on vinyl (along with the simultaneously released track on the label sampler 7"). Other than a handful of pseudonymous cassette micropressings leaked out over the past quarter century, Bobs vision has been, shall we say, strictly personal. In Bobs words: At the time, I was deeply immersed in the Basement Tapes, especially the classic boot on Surprise Records, (which still has the best track sequencing of all the various incarnations). I just wanted to sing and play songs like that. And I wanted to be all of the original members of the Dead. I was living in a closet (literally) in an apartment behind the Nottingham co-op in Madison, eating tomato soup and crackers every other day and paying rent with sheets of this ridiculous green gel. My roommate had a dual cassette deck with a mic input. My dad had a cheap classical guitar that I knew he hadnt played for years so I borrowed it and taught myself how to play. I scotch-taped a radio shack microphone to the body and bounced the tracks from one cassette to the other with the microphone input turned on. Some strange things happened, sometimes by accident. So says Bob, and we are inclined to agree. Some strange things did happen, but perhaps nothing quite so strange as seeing these songs and experiments with feedback made available in the permanent format. The beginning of a long journey, retraced. 300 copies pressed, color printed lyric insert, priced for the Great Recession." - Milvia Son.

Title: Films et Musiques Originales dEtienne OLeary (1966- 1968)
Format: LP
Label: Tenzier
Country: Canada

"ɴienne OLearys filmography consists essentially of three experimental films completed in Paris between 1966 and 1968. Day Tripper, Homeo (aka Homeo: Minor Death: Coming Back from Going Home) and Chromo Sud constitute a cinema of resistance. These brutally personal and subversive films form a body of work with few precedents. OLearys contribution to French underground cinema is not, however, limited to the introduction of a new cinematographic language. The potency of his oeuvre resides in three unsettlingly evocative soundtracks composed by the director himself. This music is now available on vinyl for the very first time (180 gr LP – 300 copies)." - Tenzier.

Since the 1960s she has influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth and ritual. This material is exclusive to this release and is not included on the recent Important Records 12CD Reverberations: Tape & Electronic Music 1961-1970. "I of IV" was made in July 1966, first released by CBS alongside works by Steve Reich and Richard Maxfield. "Big Mother Is Watching You" was also made in the summer of 1966 at the University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio, and track 3 was made at the San Francisco Tape Music Center in 1965. The three pieces on this CD are all live experiments, which at the simplest level use either an array of oscillators or filters, a mixer and one spool of tape feeding a series of (variously set up) stereo tape machines. Long delay lines, pile-ups of noise and rich sonorities are the stuff of this music. The third piece also samples a chunk of Puccinis Madame Butterfly, which only makes this music seem even more contemporary." - Paradigm Discs.

Title: Four Electronic Pieces 1959-1966
Format: CD
Label: Sub Rosa
Country: Belgium
Price: $16.00
"Sub Rosa presents Pauline Oliveros early and definitive tape and electronic music of the late fifties and sixties -- all released for the first time ever! Born in Texas in 1932, Pauline Oliveros is more than ever an important American composer. Her accomplishments speak to an array of disciplines: her pieces for accordion; the creation of the Deep Listening Institute, a center dedicated to fostering artistic creativity through workshops, performances, and new technologies; her approach to improvisation in relation to meditation; and her numerous and varied collaborations with, among others, John Cage, Morton Subotnick, Terry Riley, Sonic Youth, Erold and Andrew Deutsch. Each piece on this release exemplifies her systematic exploration of electronic sounds, which was fundamental to this period. "Mnemonics" prefigures her meditative and breathing pieces. "V of IV" structures sound as noise. "Time Perspectives" is among her first variations on silence. Finally, "Once Again" develops a wild energy that out-strips itself, a frenzy the likes of which is hard to find even to this day. As Oliveros explains, the detailed methodology behind her work offers a unique inquiry into the process of artistic invention itself. "My work with electronic music began in 1959. My first tape piece was an ambitious four channel work called Time Perspectives. The piece was made by recording small sounds from objects resonated on a wooden wall and changing the tape speed. I used cardboard tubes as filters by inserting the mic into the tube and recording sources through the tubes. I used my bath tub as a reverberation chamber. Sections of the piece were improvised and then subjected to speed changes. When the San Francisco Tape Music Center was established together with Ramon Sender and Morton Subotnik there was a pool of equipment to use and I began to work with electronic sound. Rather than cut and splice small pieces of tape together to make a composition I chose to work in real time. I used two tape machines with the tape running across both machines to make a delay system. I used two or more oscillators at high frequencies to produce different tones. These tones would also interact with the bias frequencies of the tape recorders. I would play the oscillators into the tape recorders improvising my way through the piece. My system of composing in this manner was my own invention." --Pauline Oliveros

Title: Primordial/Lift
Format: Double LP
Label: Taiga
Country: USA
Price: $34.00
"Primordial/Lift is a continuation of Pauline Oliveros 80th birthday celebration. This double vinyl record contains the previously-unreleased second performance of Primordial/Lift from September 25th, 2010. The first performance of this work, which took place in 1998, was released on CD in both edited and full-length versions. Interpreting a score penned by Oliveros in 1998, Anne Bourne, Andrew Deutsch, Miguel Frasconi, David Grubbs, Jason Huang and Suzanne Thorpe joined Oliveros at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn to divulge this bizarre and surreal sound work. Centered around a low frequency oscillator, the group swirls cello, voice, sampler, glass drones, e-guitar, violin and V accordion into a molten mass dropped from outer space. Along with the simultaneously released Deep Listening Band Needle Drop Jungle 2LP, this title completes a tetralogy of Oliveros releases on Taiga that started with the Deep Listening Band Then & Now and Timeless Pulse Trio 2LPs. Primordial/Lift was mastered by James Plotkin, cut direct to metal and pressed on 200 gram virgin vinyl in an edition of 500. It comes packaged in a double-wide jacket with the original scores printed in metallic ink and a flooded pocket. The jacket is encased in a custom slipcase, with gorgeous photographs by Michael S. Carlson from deep within the expansive Taiga forests southern edge." - Taiga.

Title: To Valerie Solanas And Marilyn Monroe In Recognition of Their Desperation
Format: LP
Label: Roaratorio
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Shortly after it was published in 1968 the SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas fell into my hands. Intrigued by the egalitarian feminist principles set forth in the Manifesto, I wanted to incorporate them in the structure of a new piece that I was composing. The womens movement was surfacing and I felt the need to express my resonance with this energy. Marilyn Monroe had taken her own life. Valerie Solanas had attempted to take the life of Andy Warhol. Both women seemed to be desperate and caught in the traps of inequality: Monroe needed to be recognized for her talent as an actress. Solanas wished to be supported for her own creative work. Commissioned by the Music Department of Hope College, Holland Michigan, To Valerie Solanas and Marilyn Monroe in Recognition of Their Desperation had its premiere in 1970. Though everyone knew Marilyn Monroe hardly anyone recognized Valerie Solanas or took her Manifesto seriously. I brought the names of these two women together in the title of the piece to draw attention to their inequality and to dedicate the piece." -Pauline Oliveros "This LP contains both the 1970 Hope College premiere, performed by a 14-piece ensemble, and a 1977 recording from Wesleyan University, performed by a 43-piece orchestra. Roaratorio is proud to present the first commercially available release of this eerie, beautiful, and important Oliveros work. Cover artwork by Judith Lindbloom. Edition of 150. "In honor of her 80th birthday, medusa presents a silver, screen print quad fold-out box (7.25x 7.25x0.25in.) art edition for one of the most inspiring human beings on the planet. Seven Passages was recorded at the San Francisco Tape Music Center in 1963 for a dance choreographed and performed by Elizabeth Harris with Pauline Oliveros performing the music. Using inside piano strings and bowed flexible brass rods from a telephone exchange. These rods were flat, and were easily clamped to the inside of the piano and resonated nicely. I still have the rods." - Medusa Editions.

Title: The Minecxio Connection: Live! At The Rosendale Cafe
Format: LP
Label: Roaratorio
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"One of the most unexpected yet fruitful partnerships of recent years: in the mid-1990s, Pauline Oliveros, electronic music pioneer and sage of the environmental-drone, began working with Reynols, the prolific and resolutely undefinable Argentinian group. Their first joint effort sent Oliveros music through the rigours of Reynols heavily processed studio treatments; THE MINEXCIO CONNECTION : LIVE! AT THE ROSENDALE CAFE finds them collaborating on-stage in real time. Recorded in August 2000 during Reynols first trek through North America, they offered up a version of "Six For New Time" (originally composed by Oliveros for Sonic Youths GOODBYE 20th CENTURY LP), along with idiosyncratic throat-singing and hypnotic dream/dronescapes. The venue may have been a small cafe in rustic upstate New York, but the sonic results sound like emanations from the deepest of Deep Listening caves under the earth." - Roaratorio.

Title: Supercharge
Format: Double LP
Label: Harbinger Sound
Country: UK
Price: $30.00
"As all Mother Savage tapes begin their transubstantiation into the new holy relics of Noise, one seldom-heard act still stands at a comfortable distance from the rest of the roster. A collaboration between Andy Bolus (Evil Moisture) and Mark Durgan (Putrefier), Olympic Shit Man divorced itself from the ultra-saturated, no-mind quest for pure filth by combining velocity and density while compromising neither. Most cut-up noise of the time buzzed your ears like a Stuka, uncatchable but lacking heft, while the harshest acts demolished all, but maneuvered like a tank in winter. Boluss EMS synth blurts and Durgans tactile junk scrapes capture the full spectrum of frequencies, while the pairs tape splicing strategies create asymmetric constructions that rattle around the room like a washer with an unbalanced spin cycle. As with the collaborations between Evil Moisture and Macronympha (The Tentacles of the Octopus Sometimes Compete Against One Another), Mlehst and Macronympha (Macrosonic), and Ruzensturn & Gurgelstock and Masonna (Arschloch-Onna), Olympic Shit Man is ferocious yet fleet, vibrant yet filthy, jaw-clenching yet hilarious. This vinyl reissue trisects the original cassette content into three 20 minute sides of vinyl, giving you an extra index point with which to process the mayhem. Side four includes two unreleased live tracks from 1994 and 2006, the first a fizzy, spastic sugar rush, the second a cascade of synth and toy squiggles that curlicue onto a wide canvas. Wrapped in a full-color jacket and including a 24-page Bolus comic book, Supercharge accomplishes what all reissues should: it doesnt just narrate epic battles of the past, it reintroduces all-but-forgotten combat tactics to a new generation of aural guerillas." - Harbinger Sound. Format: Double Picture Disc LP
Label: Olyvetty
Country: Italy
Price: $38.00
"Olyvetty is an audio visual environment project that started in Berlin in 2006 when the musician Claudio Rocchetti and the visual artist Riccardo Benassi met. Olyvetty is the distortion of a symbol, the language prevailing over the content, the information over the production. With this new project, which was presented at Netmage 08 for the first time, the depths of noise and minimal-techno have been systematically plumbed. As all-encompassing as a hole , a double picture-disc vinyl was recorded manually. The two artists both live in Berlin , where they met and started their collaboration. What they have in common is their actual research on sound, which means a direct interaction with the object and its surface through the use of different supports, both durino production and live processing." - Digimag. Price: $15.00
"OM reunites one of the most powerful rhythm sections in rock music: Al Cisneros [bass, vocals] and Chris Hakius [drums], both ex-members of the legendary Sleep. Variations on a Theme is comprised of three long songs employing a series of rhythmic chants whose cadence-like textural drive conveys flight. The albums numerous lyrics serve as symbolist vehicles to a state outside the field of time and space. Variations on a Theme is a series of vibrations and flow. The opening track,On The Mountain at Dawn is the thematic blueprint of the entire album; a transportive series of differentiated verse with sets of solid groove. Kapils Theme furthers the motif while the closer Annapurna breaks the spell, where the final wash of sound reflects the infinite." - Holy Mountain.

If you think that once the music hits the air and it can no longer be "contained," then your needle hasnt slid through this groove because its heavier than a flightless bird. MR. CHASNY doesnt remove anything from the scale either. His side, "Assyrian Blood," contains what seems to be subliminal fuzz/noise blips-like bugs hitting your windshield except that you can hear them. Thankfully they coalesce into a stunning guitar solo that cuts through the chant and goes straight for the jugular. Both tracks are exclusive to this release." - Holy Mountain.

"Having played together in Æthenor for the last couple of years, Steve Noble and Stephen OMalley came together to play as a duo at Cafe OTO in 2011. These recordings are the result of these two hot and sticky nights in East London. Noble is a regular at Bo Weavil Recordings, having appeared on over nine recordings for the label, and a linch pin in Londons improvising community. So it was bound to be a memorable night of music to see these two meet. Steve Noble studied with Nigerian master drummer Elkan Ogunde in the early 1980s and over the last 20 years has played with most of the great players from all four corners of the globe. Stephen OMalley is predominantly a guitarist, producer and composer who has been at the center of avant-garde/drone metal, best known for his group Sunn0))), and also a prolific collaborator with many of the finest improvisers. Noble sets the recording off with a full tribal charge, while Stephen, instead of firing off a shard of ecstatic notes and chords, coaxes his guitar into singing a slow, ever-growing roar. But soon the two are off into some wild, creative rampages -- exciting drum and guitar territory sounding at times not too dissimilar to Hainos Fushitsusha, brutally beautiful, shredded riffs from OMalley meet with Nobles exuberant rhythmic force . On St. Francis Duo, the memory of these two nights can be heard in full violent sonic attack." -Bo Weavil.

Title: Interceptor
Format: Double CD
Label: Helen Scarsdale Agency
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"OMIT is the nom de plume of New Zealand electronic musician CLINTON WILLIAMS, whose homespun constructs detour from the sculpted grit and mottled distortion found in the work of his countrymen and-women. His masterful Quad 3xCD opus (Corpus Hermeticum, 1998) makes palpable the artists contentious argument with his own unwieldy mousetrap of tape-loops, modular electronics, effects pedals, drum machines, and the creaking sounds of his house. Interceptor is the result of an experiment with a portable studio outside his longtime home of Blenheim. With two suitcases of drum machines, effects, and analog synths, Williams recalls being "pissed off with myself wasting time recording this stuff when I was trying to find a job." His frustrations stripped away much of the grandiose sweeps of ambience and shadow, leaving behind a life-support system grid of overlapping, phase-shifted blip and click. An undertow of hypnotic tonalities pulls those rhythms toward a crepuscular gloom. Williams has always been at odds with his own work, yet his self-doubt continues to deliver magnificent albums which thrive in a symbiotic struggle with mechanical disintegration."-Helen Scarsdale

"This is the first American CD release by veteran New Zealand artist Omit. Previously he has had three compact disc releases on the prestigious New Zealand label Corpus Hermeticum. Patterned after the paranoid electronics of Klaus Schulzes Cyborg, Omit tinkers with outdated synthesizers, delay pedals and tape loops to shape plastic signal patterns and oblique modulations to evoke sprawling voids of nightmarish emptiness. Sublime wooden rhythms and unsettling, textured scrapes sporadically appear in the synthetic wash, suggesting that Williams has encountered the higher profile electronica of Alva Noto. Such parallels are purely coincidental, but Omit deserves a broader audience." - Anomalous.

"Obsessive electronic composer CLINTON WILLIAMS returns with a new album recorded under his OMIT moniker. As with all of his previous work, Tracer is an antiquated behemoth, constructed from analogue synthesizers, primitive drum machines, homespun electronics, and numerous effects pedals. Simple wooden rhythms trot, trudge, and even glide along taut metric grids hot-wired with bursts of mechanical splutter and the occasional creak from Pierre Henrys wooden door. An occasionally menacing, but more often melancholic orchestration of synthetic tones ripple, flex, and dissolve across the uniform structuralism, creating an ecstatic paranoia rarely heard with such splendor, rigor, and sublime blackness. If sonic references are required, then the Klaus Schulze masterpiece Cyborg remains the closest analogy to what may be found in Tracer." - Helen Scarsdale Agency .

"First album by Glenna Van Nostrand, a Cambridge, MA-based performance artist obsessed with archaic telecommunication hardware. Using solo vocals run through an old telephone, amplified by a variety of radios, her work creates its own rhythms through hypnotic layering, repetition and the imperfections built into her chosen delivery system. Alternately ethereal and cracked, her performance takes simple kernels of thought and speech, creating mystifying vistas of otherness that hint at the eternal now. The only specific musical accompaniment comes from her use of a telephones touch pad as a keyboard, but the rich weirdness of her compositions is consistent and dazzling. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Machines With Magnets with Keith Souza and Seth Manchester in Providence. Are you ready for two side-long slices of the Omnivore experience? These sample-based meditations are as lyrical as they are ecological, featuring re-purposed ghost vocals which serve as narration for Lopatins signature amorphous, ambient passages. Lopatins Juno-60 is still prominent, but Returnals placid, synthetic surroundings are accelerated through darker, more unpredictable terrains via Lopatins use of samplers, analog filtering, tape-op, piano, plate reverb and sub-bass. Title: Returnal
Format: LP
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $22.00
"Gatefold LP version. Returnal is the fourth album from Daniel Lopatins Oneohtrix Point Never project, after Betrayed In The Octagon (Deception Island, 2007), Zones Without People (Arbor, 2009) and Russian Mind (No Fun, 2009). All 3 albums being superbly compiled on the Rifts double CD set (No Fun, 2009). It sees Lopatin fine-tune his craft for the creation of deep atmospheres and textures even further. Starting off with the mind-blowing triptych of "Nil Admiari"/"Describing Bodies"/"Stress Waves," which fires off into a noise/rhythm excess before entering a zone of relative calm, building to the melancholy of the final part. This sets the tone perfectly for the albums title track, a stunning, out-of-this-world ballad featuring Lopatins near-desperate vocal delivery, ending what could be seen as one of his most chilling and thought-provoking sides to-date. The atmosphere is slightly lifted as the darkened sun comes up over the ruins on "Pelham Island Road" and "Where Does Time Go," with the album closing with edgy broken beats and the fourth-world possible landscapes of "Preyouandi," which fades into the distance with echoes of the "Returnal" chorus closing the loop. Whats burnt into memory here is Lopatins love affair with the long, slow path back home... the cycle... the hypnotic sector... the ghost in the machine... and whether people are making dance music or hip-hop or space head-music or metal, the ouroboros is present in every sector -- as it was in Bachs study, and in the elephant songs of the Ituri forests. Instrumentation: Akai AX-60, Roland Juno-60, Roland MSQ-700, Korg Electribe ES-1, Voice. Recorded using a personal computer. Mastered by James Plotkin. Tape-op & additional engineering by Al Carlson. Awesome spot-varnished cover design by Stephen OMalley." - Editions Mego.

Label: Editions Mego

"Returnal is the fourth album from Daniel Lopatins Oneohtrix Point Never project, after Betrayed In The Octagon (Deception Island, 2007), Zones Without People (Arbor, 2009) and Russian Mind (No Fun, 2009). Format: Double CD
Label: No Fun
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Oneohtrix Point Nevers Rifts trilogy comprises Daniel Lopatins first three full length records - Betrayed in the Octagon, Zones Without People, and Russian Mind. The Rifts trilogy travels from the outside-in, beginning with the dark space sonatas of Octagon, down through the mechanized vistas of Zones and completing itself with the haunting electronic animus of Russian Mind. This journey is underscored with a natural growth which sees Lopatin developing his unabashed worship of the analog poly-synth as a free standing musical apparatus towards a fully realized OPN world of sound; at once incorporating synth prog, modern noise, early techno, drone, minimalism and computer music. With Rifts it is possible to zoom out on the OPN project and recognize Lopatin as both an auteur and alchemist; achieving a signature sound while drawing on a buried history of electronic music. The double disc includes all 3 albums in its entirety (originally released on limited edition vinyl only) as well as selections from rare and out of print cassette and CD-R releases, with recordings spanning as far back as 2003. Fully re-mastered for digital audio by James Plotkin, art by Tom Scholefield." -No Fun

"Daniel Lopatins Oneohtrix Point Never represents a rift in time; an isolationist expedition into the archaeology of sound, notably the analog polysynth as a means of organic creation. ??Zones Without People? is the second record in the OPN trilogy; acting as a bridge between the drifting, alien compositions of ??Betrayed in The Octagon? and a music more rooted in melody and introspective nostalgia as a search for self. An exercise in ??in between-ness: reconciling noise and melodicism, the stasis of drone and the spasomadic nature of concret, the historical narrative of 70s Kraut synth music and 80s techno. Arpeggios and sequencers play a key role in this amalgamation, as these forms of repetition create an attachment to a certain sentiment neither human nor machine. The record reflects this transformation; the A Side has distinct emotional flourishes, while the majority of the B Side seems to be overtaken in cold, mechanized melodies (like attempts at teaching a machine to feel). Format: LP

Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"NNAs second split LP unites two American artists on the cutting edge of experimental electronic music: Brooklyns Oneohtrix Point Never and Los Angeles Rene Hell. Daniel Lopatin and Jeff Witscher have each been working tirelessly in the US underground for the last several years, releasing progressive, forward-thinking, and highly acclaimed music under a wide variety of guises and manifestations. In 2012, we see them each offering their respective unique visions and interpretations of digital music in the modern world, processing the world around us through the lens of technology and modern sound. Oneohtrix Point Never brings us Music For Reliquary House, which consists of sonic reworkings from the Reliquary House audio/visual installation, a collaboration between Lopatin and video artist Nate Boyce. In a series of five pieces, Lopatin delivers a sequence of hallucinatory informatic assaults, a satirical re-envisioning of modernist sculpture. Picking up where 2011s Replica left off, OPN uses digital technology to dissect human speech patterns and timbres almost beyond recognition. Via computer, Lopatin converts pieces of text to human speech, only to dismantle it entirely, surgically reassembling the scraps of frequencies and the shrapnel of pure sound into something new altogether. Starkly melodic at times, but altogether harsh and inhuman as a whole. Rene Hell presents In 1980 I Was a Blue Square, a suite of five pieces for piano, synthesizer, and computer. Juxtaposing mid 20th century classical music with chaotic electronic blasts, Witscher creates his own style of contemporary music that is peaceful and violent on top of itself, creating a rift of confusion that sits nicely between more vast, soundscape-like vignettes. Witschers previous forays into the worlds of noise and ambient are tastefully apparent here, indicative of an artist who is able to retain a broad array of influences and use them in a way that is both personal and original." - NNA Tapes. "Underground cartoonist KEIZO MIYANISHI left behind one of the greatest documents from the 1980s. Self-released on his own Cupid & Psyche label, the single contains two songs, "Cortigiana dal velo" and "Mune o tutunde," which pair guitars and bass over some of the most tripped-out drum programming of all time. This psychedelic masterpiece ranks alongside the first White Stains 7-inch as one of the all-time greatest from the era. There is an outtake from these sessions, "Haha nareba koso," which is just as amazing, and the three songs would fit in a Terminal Boredom discussion about acid punk classics from Crawling Chaos to Chrome.  In 2007, ONNA reappeared and released a double-CDR with his partner, dancer BARAE. A track appeared on PSFs Tokyo Flashback 6, and the label also released an album titled Katawa in 2008. In addition to the studio material from the 7-inch, this CD includes two outtakes from Katawa, a solo piece from an obscure cassette release, and four live tracks from 1983 featuring a young MICHIO KURIHARA (WHITE HEAVEN, GHOST, BORIS) on second guitar. These are the first Kurihara recordings and come from a long-deleted double live Onna CD released in the early 1990s. This CD is packaged in a mini-LP sleeve with a booklet reproducing flyers, photos and posters from the era. Miyanishi and Onna have made significant but largely unnoticed contributions to the Japanese underground. Hopefully this release will vastly expand their profile worldwide." -Holy Mountain. "Exact repro LP of this album originally released in 1985. Hailing from Nigeria, William Onyeabor made a number of incredible Nigerian soul and funk albums towards the tail end of the 1970s. However, as the 80s kicked in William began to experiment with the new sounds and bleeps that could now be tweeked on modern synthesizers. Anything You Sow, William Onyeabors final LP was released in 1985 and is a true masterpiece of Afro-electro thats been rediscovered by modern acts such as Keiran Hebden AKA Four Tet and Caribou. Kicking off with the 12 minute epic When The Going Is Smooth & Good, which was used in Keiran Hebdens Essential Mix, this is a truly pioneering piece of Afro-electro-disco with a clear message in the music. Dipping in and out of intricate percussion workouts and driven by bleepy synth grooves, it has an irresistible lo fi charm. Followed by the up-tempo This Kind Of World, another percussive electronic workout that begs the question have you ever seen this kind of world?...it will appeal to fans of Nigerian Afro-funk and fans of more modern Shangaan Electro." - Wilfilms.

"There are times when you collect material, ideas, and emotions without being able to combine them. You feel as if you are laying the foundations of a work without knowing its form and you wait, feeling curious. You let the sounds rest until the evening when birth resembles death. The fruit is ripe for an instant only, the time it takes to fall. Like the virgins veil. Bold wine, austere lineage. Since 1978, Baudouin Oosterlynck has been introducing his music in the floor, the walls, the windows, etc., thereby creating his first musical installations and sound installations. The music no longer goes towards the listeners ears but it is the listeners ears that go towards the music. All of this happens in silence. He did musical performances in function of acoustic phenomena particular to specific architectures. He completed 15,000 km on foot and by bicycle in Europe, looking for variations of silence. For the past fifteen years he has been producing listening prosthesis and special instruments played by the listener in silence! There are more than 180 opuses to date." - Metaphon.

"New short film by visual artist / musician Roberto Opalio, one half of My Cat Is An Alien. Filmed on March 21st, 2006, the video represents a visionary, introspective view of the empty spaces over the city, Torino. Through a unique, hand-manipulated shot made in real-time, Roberto Opalios poetic fragmentation and distortion of real objects recalls early film experiments by Man Ray, as well as a certain Warholian psychedelia in the use of filtered light as a main principle of creation / perception of ones own reality. The soundtrack, recorded the same day appositely, leads to a further estrangement with the use of Opalios looped wordless vocals and electronics merging into a heavy, ecstatic stream of sounds." - Opax.

Title: L.A. We Revise Your Neglect
Format: LP
Label: Thin Wrist
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"From Los Angeles, Open City chase two electric guitars and one close-miked drumkit through scurrying pointillist sketches, firecracker drones, and explosive smears of colour. Members of Open City have previously played with the likes of Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier, and Phill Niblock, and theres no denying their strong grasp of the language of higher minded improvisation. Yet their approach is undercut with a real rock sensibility, made most manifest in the barbed wire tones of the guitars. Indeed, the combination of avant theory and punk rock aethetics drops them in a similar space to Sonic Youths Goodbye 20th Century. Drummer Andrew Maxwell runs the gamut of percussive techniques, from all-out pots and pans attack through the kind of sonorous cymbal work that Eddie Prevost uses to illuminate AMMs darker paths. Twin guitarists Peter Kolovos and Doug Russell veer from Sonic Youths Moore/Ranaldo tag team wrassling to setting their guitars up as lightning rods for the liquid flow of electricity. Though the music is formless, the group are so aggressively focused that even the slightest of movements feels totally inexorable." - David Keenan; WIRE.

The group use a constant flow of deep drone, pointilistic cut ups, rich texture and silence to create Alpha music. Unrepeatable and unpredictable, aggressively abstract, time-stamped, adaptive, actionist, attentionist, fun. Open City aims for a moment before music, the unsettled pause before a devastating blow. Franck Lopez and the other band members have dug into their archives and compiled a great selection from their very rare tapes plus other treasures in parallel to its official vinyl/CD discography, Opera Multi Steel recorded during the 80s several K7 tapes including many unreleased tracks: Autres Appels (1985), Eternelle Tourmente (1986), OMS/Modern Art (1987), Je Regarde La Pluie (1987), Regret Qui Sécaille (1987) . Those K7s were home-duplicated in those times in very limited quantities (between 100 and 300 copies). This 3LP box set is an anthology of the tracks featured on those different 80s K7 tapes (originally 2-track reel tape recorded) that were the seeds of some songs rearranged or re-recorded later and even contains some demo versions of never-released songs. Those different limited edition tapes are nowadays deleted and considered as real collectors items." - Vinyl-On-Demand

Artist: OPERAZIONE NAFTA
Title: Cavuru
Format: LP
Label: Siltbreeze
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Located within the Trapani Province of Sicily, OPERAZIONE NAFTA considers their self-described "un-rock" as "a blowjob from Luigi Russolo." Theres little doubt the great Futurist author of the The Art Of Noises manifesto would be anything but chuffed by such salacious bravado. Indeed, the trio pours on the racket and sounds like they were hatched in a custom-built Russolo intonarumori. Successfully putting the on back in bonkers, Operazione Nafta doles out only The Berserk, which might be why, at any given time, their unstoppable onslaught taps into rock / improv fizz a la Sun City Girls, Etron Fou Leloublan or the Butthole Surfers, various FMP blat, and MEV-like electronic scramble. When they claim "We are Operazione Nafta and we kill Bambi!" who among us would question it? Besides, a nice bowl of Sicilian-styled venison ragout would really hit the spot. Released in a vinyl-only, one-time edition of 500, Cavuru is the bands debut release." - SIltbreeze.

"The first release from Minimal Wave originally pressed in 2005, the Oppenheimer Analysis 12" EP is back again by popular demand. This EP is a third pressing hand-numbered edition (999 copies) on 180 gram vinyl of selected tracks from the Oppenheimer Analysis cassette entitled "New Mexico" released in 1982, as well as two others that were previously unreleased. Andy Oppenheimer (nuclear weapons consultant) and Martin Lloyd (previously involved in the Survival Label, also known for his project "Analysis") formed Oppenheimer Analysis in the early 80s shortly after meeting one another at a Science Fiction Convention in London. They opened up for such bands as Hawkwind and Spizz Energi, and were reviewed in Melody Maker back in the day. Check the sound samples and images here. Note: the spot color on the sleeve is a powder blue." - Minimal Wave.

Title: Nataraja Da Nada
Format: LP
Label: Paradise Lost
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
"Warehouse find of this relic from 1989. Hard ass Texas psych/biker rock, with incredible "spiritual tangents" and a pretty cool overload of general stupidity and blabber. Includes insert." - FE. "The lyrics are obscure, but what I pick up spells L-S-D. About halfway through the track the trio takes off for the Andromeda Galaxy, a 10-minute space guitar jam with echoes of Manuel Gottsching and Terry Brooks, before Rameshwar the vocalist reappears to send a final transmission back to the Solar system. Whew! No coincidence they called their recording shack The Sponge - there must have been liquid acid running down the walls in there. Over on the reverse side is The oracle speaks, another 24-minute trip which Im pretty certain was recorded in a lysergic state - theres no other way to explain the strange wave-like in/out-of synch drumming. Beginning with ghostly whispers of Sanskrit the piercing Voice appears again to intone the LP title, before setting off on a bizarre imitation of rootsy garage rock interspersed with crude acid guitar leads.... A conceptual tribal basement acid space guitar trip that is as good as anything Ive heard from a modern - as I believe them to be - psych band... heads who enjoy Ya Ho Wha 13 LPs can find comfort in the fact that there were freaks as flipped out as Yods guys 15 years later, right in the middle of the Reagan-Bush American heartland." -- Acid Archives. Related to the Skuldedog CD we carried a few years back, this is a 1989 release of 1985 re-recordings of material originally written in 1976.. or something like that. Very Highly Recommended!

Title: Oramics
Format: Double CD
Label: Paradigm Discs
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"DAPHNE ORAM is best known for her design of her Oramics system, and also for co-founding the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1957, but until now the only easily available piece of music by her on CD has been the 8-minute long "Four Aspects." There was also a 7-inch EP from 1962 on HMV, released as part of the Listen, Move and Dance series that was specifically designed to help children dance. Although the short pieces on this record are very basic it could be argued that this is the first ever electronic dance record! Now for the first time is a survey of nearly all the major pieces that she produced since her departure from the BBC in January 1959 until her final tape piece in 1977. The two and a half hours of music on this 2CD set covers the whole range of Orams post BBC output. All of the music is electronic with some occasional use of real instruments, especially small percussion and piano frame. There is also some use of musique concrete techniques. The works fall roughly into the following categories: works for TV and cinema advertising, film soundtracks, music for theatre productions, installations and exhibitions as well as concert pieces and several studio experiments. There are also a few short pieces that resulted from an experimental music course given by Oram at a high school in Yorkshire in 1967." - Paradigm.

Title: Oramics
Format: 4 LP
Label: Young Americans
Country: UK
Price: $49.00
"Young Americans is a new label operating under the Modern Love umbrella, proud to present an extremely special vinyl pressing of some of the most important early electronic music ever made. Daphne Oram was the founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, a department she more or less single-handedly created in 1958, camping out at the BBC studios for nights on end splicing tapes and working with various modified machines to create her abstract soundscapes. Eventually the BBC bent under her pressure and in studio 13 created the soon-to-be-legendary Radiophonic Workshop, with Daphne Oram as its first director. Oram also invented her own "drawn-sound" technique, a process whereby strips of 35mm film would be manipulated before being fed into her home-made "Oramics" machine which would convert and "read" the film into sound. Despite her considerable and historic list of achievements, Orams life and work remain largely unknown by the wider public. As this remarkable 44-track collection shows, however, her work ranks amongst the most varied and pioneering ever made, and its quite incredible to think that this is the first time any of these precious recordings have been available on vinyl. 155 minutes/8 sides of vinyl cut by Lupo at D&M, housed in a heavyweight 300 gram gatefold sleeve, featuring rare archive photographs." -Young Americans

Title: The Daphne Oram Tapes: Volume One
Format: 4 LP
Label: Young Americans
Country: UK
Price: $50.00
"Daphne Oram, founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, died in 2003 leaving a colossal archive of reel-to-reel tapes and documents behind. This important collection of material eventually made its way to Goldsmiths College, London, who have been administering it on behalf of the Daphne Oram Trust for the last few years. The collection holds over 400 tapes made by Oram during her lifetime, and 211 of those have been archived and catalogued by the college so far. The Daphne Oram Tapes: Volume One is the result of almost two years spent trawling through the archive in an attempt to piece together a coherent document of one of the most pioneering and genuinely experimental characters in electronic music history. Although some of Orams recordings have surfaced on the Oramics compilation (YOUNGAM 001LP), this compilation reveals a complex, dark and sometimes disturbing body of work which has, until now, been partially obscured by the more recognizable Radiophonic bleeps and whirrs the Workshop is best known for. This first volume focuses on Orams love of experimental forms, of musique concrète, of the science and mystery of sound and composition. It comes at a time when her work is only just starting to gain wider acknowledgment in scholarly as well as popular circles. The "Oramics" machine (the first electronic musical instrument in history to be designed and built by a woman) has gone on display at the Science Museum in London, an important step in what will no doubt be a sustained effort to assert Orams rightful position as one of the most important figures in modern music. Working through the archive has been a life-changing experience, revealing a wealth of musical treasures that include recordings and sound effects made for Stanley Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssey and Jack Claytons The Innocents, all the way through to field recordings made in Africa. This first volume, put together with the help of Goldsmiths and Daphnes family, is the first in a planned series that will, for the first time, make Orams most important and personal recordings available for public consumption. Deluxe quadruple vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve." -Young Americans

"This 10" record brings together two very rare and early EPs made by these pioneering electronic musicians. Both records have not been in print since 1962. Title: In The Midst of Chaos
Format: CD
Label: Destijl
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Free jazz group Oranges one and only release In The Midst Of Chaos was recorded in 1978 and became renowned saxophonist Paul Flahertys first record. Its also the first and only release of legendary out guitarist Barry Greika, who along with Bob Laramie on bass and Glen Hobbit Peterson on drums remains a terribly under-recorded group. Orange made a screaming, blistering, howling slap of a record that defies categorization, as it pushed the already hazy 70s into uncharted confusion. An LP release of only 200 copies on its only run, it received the notice of seriously few. Besides the band, only two people definitely heard it; one sailed it out the kitchen window, the wife of the other demanded the thing leave the house. But as the times have changed, were just certain its gonna sell wildly now. So here you go, hardcore free-form improvisation enthusiastically rejuvenated, without shame." --Charles F. Destruction

Price: $28.00
"The 1976 follow up to Wedge was No One Left But Me. Due to the lack of offers the Orange Wedge also released their second LP as a private pressing that was to be sold at gigs and local shops, and it sold like hot bread making this one an elusive piece among hard rock collectors. Their sound here is still 100% high energy, though an evolution has been made and the band sounds a bit more sophisticated. It was their best selling album at the time with a pressing of 1000 copies that hardly made it out of Baltimore, so heres a very good chance to rediscover this amazing piece of pure rock power. Here at Wah Wah we have respectfully worked on its reissue to offer you a killer release in thick cardboard paste-up sleeve, and featuring an insert with the story of the band and lots of cool photos gently provided by original Orange Wedge guitarist and composer Joe Farace. This is a limited reissue of only 500 copies, so hurry to get yours before they just disappear from sight as it happened with the original pressing!" -Wah Wah

Title: Wedge
Format: LP
Label: Wah Wah
Country: Spain
Price: $28.00
"Wah Wah is proud to offer the two LPs by Baltimores high energy hard rock pride Orange Wedge. Having become one of the most successful live acts in Maryland, Orange Wedge nevertheless didnt get to sign a contract with a proper label, so in 1974 they decided it was time to invest some of their money into the self-production of their first LP. Wedge, the resulting work, shows a highly energetic band performing their own original compositions direct to your ears. Housed in a plain blue sleeve with the title stamped on front, 500 copies were pressed, some to be sent to record companies with the hope of getting a proper contract and others to be sold at gigs and a few of them at local Maryland shops. Needles to say they were quickly deleted and the record is nowadays a much sought after treasure among collectors of the hard rock genre. Here at Wah Wah we have respectfully worked on its reissue to offer you a killer release in thick cardboard paste-up sleeve with silver lettering stamping, and featuring an insert with the story of the band and lots of cool photos gently provided by original Orange Wedge guitarist and composer Joe Farace. Title: Make The Rules/Phenomenal World
Format: 7"
Label: Sing Sing
Country: USA
Price: $6.50
"Formed in Milwaukee, The Orbits were a mod/powerpop three-piece band whose outstanding "Make The Rules" can be heard on the 2nd volume of Powerpearls. Old bandmate (and also Shivvers drummer) Jim Richardson once qualified the combo as "Brian Jones on speed fronting The Jam". In fact, the trio was typical of the US vintage late `70s powerpop sound, as they were true garage activists drawing from the `60s legacy much more subtly than their UK contemporaries. Juvenile, disarming, devoid of all pretence or anything. Original members, bassist Scott Krueger, guitarist Breck Burns and drummer Bob Wrenn werent at the first attempt to start out a band. They played in early incarnations of The Orbits like In A Hot Coma, The Craze (which included guitarist Howie Epstein), and The Drones but their only 7" vinyl appearance was due to The Orbits. Indeed, released on the tiny label No.1, "Make The Rules" backed with smashing "Phenomenal World" were in the bins in 1980, in fact the same week than Milwaukee bandmates The Shivvers "Teen Line" 7" single. They would be remembered for their blistering sets (they covered The Jams "In The City", The Whos "So Sad About Us") but their studio counterparts were really worth a try. The Orbits sound was tight like a strong black coffee (or its chemical equivalent) but enriched with a lot of pop artifacts (clear vocals, handclaps, peals of guitar riffs, "lalala-la" background vocals). The Shivvers and The Orbits would later morph into one, keeping The Shivvers name and would include Jim Richardson, Scott Krueger, Breck Burns, guitarist Mike Pyle, and singer, songwriter, keyboardist Jill Kossoris." - Sing Sing.

Price: $16.00
"Recordings of Mauritanias first modern musical group with some never before released material. Formed in the 1960s, the Orchestre Nationale combined folk instrumentation with brass sections and electric guitars. Dreamy and hypnotic sessions are reminiscent of other post-colonial West African orchestras, but diverge with experiments in Mauritanian classical tradition. All but vanished into obscurity in the ensuing decades of military dictatorship, these recordings slated for destruction were salvaged during a 1978 coup détat. Comes with extensive liner notes. A co-release with the mighty Sahel Sounds label. Old school tip on covers." -Mississippi.

Price: $16.00
"Editions Mego is suitably chuffed to announce a CD reissue of San Francisco guitarist Bill Orcutts acoustic hardcore blues stormer A New Way To Pay Old Debts, previously released on Palilalia in 2009, and for many, one of the highlights of recent years with its unique visionary take on solo guitar playing. At the heart of Orcutts sound is a vintage acoustic Kay guitar equipped with a DeArmond pickup. After the neck was broken and subsequently repaired, the guitar was downtuned so as to withstand the tension of the strings, and played with the A and D strings removed. This all lends itself to an intense set of raw, blues-influenced songs that sound heavier than most of the guitar records in your collection put together!! In addition to the original album, this CD reissue contain 2 tracks from the High Waisted 7" (also previously released on Palialia), as well as 4 unreleased tracks. Bill Orcutt: 4-string Kay, voice." -Editions Mego.

The language that Orcutt uses looks familiar at first glance, but cuts deeper and its a myriad of twisted audio thats both full-on and drenched in melancholy, usually in the same gasping breath. While a lot of it is the classic face-melting style, some quieter segments counter balance on the title track as well the epic closer "A Line From OlMan River" and "Heaven Is Closed To Me Now." "Gatefold LP compiled from tour recordings documenting the guitar/drum duo of Bill Orcutt and Chris Corsano. Twelve tracks recorded August & September of 2012 in Brooklyn, Easthampton, Philadelphia & Baltimore. Edition of 500"- Palilalia.
"The Raw and the Cooked is not Bill Orcutt and Chris Corsanos book of recipes involving apples, marzipan, and rainbow sprinkles, all of which require a miniature blender and an Easy-Bake Oven. The Raw and the Cooked is not an experiment in which Bill Orcutt tries all the possible ways to eat raw kale and Chris Corsano tries all the possible ways to eat cooked kale. The Raw and the Cooked is not a musical soap opera set in the kitchen of a brunch restaurant in which Bill Orcutt and Chris Corsano star. The Raw and the Cooked is an LP that consists of 12 tracks that guitarist Bill Orcutt and drummer Chris Corsano recorded on tour during August and September of last year, in Brooklyn, Easthampton, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. Its slated for a June 1 release of just 500 copies on Orcutts own Palilalia label, and before it drops, you can stream the first track below, which showcases the duos penchant for a sound thats completely off the rails. Country: Germany
Price: $14.00
"A four track mini CD combining the never released two 10"s Maus (DS57) and Die Hennen Zähne (DS66). Die Hennen Zähne opens with Die Kralle, actually a David Jackman track from his archive recorded in the early 1980s. Next is the title track Die Hennen Zähne, a joyful noise not unlike some of the TNB/Organum material including the sound of broken glass and Tibetan horns, best to be experienced LOUD. Maus is the centre piece of this mini album and typical old school Organum. The album closes with the more quiet and haunting Kazi, a live improvisation featuring collaborators Michael Prime and Emma OBong. Digipack. 600 copies. Total playing time: 18:18 min." - Die Stadt.

Title: Ikon
Format: CD
Label: Robot
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Robot Records (in association with Siren Records, Tokyo) is very pleased to announce the re-release of the Organum Ikon EP in the digital domain. Appearing only for a short time as a small edition cassette on Aeroplane (1987), and then later as a 12" EP (1989) on Christoph Heemanns Dom Bartwuchs label, Ikon proved to be a monumental achievement in the Organum sound. Within the five compositions, Jackman combined self-made woodwind instruments along with vast droning environments to create spacious, haunting landscapes. These melodic undercurrents were paired with voice, percussive streams, and an assortment of textural elements that convey an incredibly eerie yet beautiful sense of space. Remastered and including an alternate mix of the title track, Ikon is an awesome document of one of David Jackmans most important works." - Robot.

Title: Sanctus
Format: CD
Label: Die Stadt
Country: Germany
Price: $16.00
"The first album in a trilogy of new material, Sanctus represents the new architecture of the Organum sound. Recorded utilizing an implicit graphic score, the album is comprised of four discrete parts, each a variant of the others. These are not parts as in a movement or continuation of the composition, but rather four distinct audio canvases that represent a continuum of the elements at large. Composed in the spirit of the early Organum material, David Jackman has resurrected the droned-based, percussive turbulence of earlier years with a distinct new form of compositional systems. These new systems are scored for grand piano, Hammond organ, tower bell, and gong. While each element retains its distinct acoustic quality, the whole of each piece resonates the art of its totality. The results convey an ecstatic sense of presence, vast expanse, and, ultimately, infinitude." - Die Stadt.

Price: $26.00
"Jochen Schwarz / Die Stadt is very delighted to announce the re-release of Vacant Lights one of his all time favourite works by David Jackman, in combination with a second CD comprising of five unreleased or hard to find tracks entitled Rara Avis. David Jackman, active since the late sixties as a member of The Scratch Orchestra and later with many solo works and under the name Organum with changing line-ups, was supported on these recordings by some of the main collaborators during this Organum phase: Dinah Jane Row, Jim ORourke, Eddie Prevost (AMM), Christoph Heemann (H.N.A.S.), Robert Hampson (Main) as players and Steven Stapleton (NWW) and Peter McGhee in the studio. Most of the recordings on these two CDs show the more contemplative side of the Organum sound, the main characteristic being Jackmans playing of various types of bamboo flutes some of which were actually made by David Jackman. "233 numbered copies. Heavy matte picture sleeve plus matching card insert (both full CMYK). First vinyl release by Organum in over 7 years. It is hard to underestimate the importance and significance of Organum. David Jackman (the force behind the project) wishes the audio to speak for itself and prefers not to attempt to describe the contents of this release. However, it is worthy to note that the greatest possible care was made to every aspect of this release -- which was mastered at Prairie Cat Mastering, who provided the most clear and dynamic audio possible. Title: Salute
Format: CD
Label: Robot
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Early collaborative material from 1984. Originally only available as a cassette (released initially by the UKs Frux label, then later on David Jackmans Aeroplane label) in very small editions. Salute is comprised of 8 parts and can be viewed as the first full-length collaboration between Organum and The New Blockaders following the release of the legendary Pulp 7" in 1983. These pivotal sessions, as the title suggests, were landmark recordings. The result was in essence an appreciative salute amongst the collaborators with respect to their individual as well as collective work. This remastered edition is a massive improvement in sound over the rare cassette versions. Not only do the intense tonal textures finally blaze through in their truly maximum form, but the CD edition also allows for an uninterrupted running program. Each disc is minimally packaged in a clear jewel box." -Robot.

The penguins march to the horizon. Little Dark Wing is the first piece to appear from a series of new piano works by Jackman. Here Jackmans extensive graphic and visual background reveals a new palette of chordal systems. Further recordings of these graphic scores are forthcoming in mid-2005. Comes complete with bird. "CD issue of an LP previously issued on Silent Records in 1985. "Crux" is an Organum track, featuring Andrew Chalk on bowed gong, David Jackman on drone flute & bowed piano, Dinah Jane Rowe on drone flute and Stephen Stapleton on chair. Its a pretty classic piece to say the least. "If you like the dronescapes of traditional Far Eastern musics, youll love Crux; if you wigged out to La Monte Young at his most conceptual, youll do much the same with this. Better still, you may love Crux having previously heard none of these supposed influences; youre simply wired for sound." --David Ilic. "Flayed" features mainly AMMs Prévost on drums, general percussion and acme thunderer whistle, while Jackman added some bowed gongs and electronic sounds." -Matchless

"Following their maxi CD Tinnitus Vu on Touch in 2004 Tocsin is the first full length album by these two renowned sound artists. Whereas Zev simply reworked already existing work by Jackman for Tinnitus Vu ,this time the artists agreed to both meet in the studio for Tocsin . They created and recorded sounds from a piano which can be found at RMS Studios London and a stainless steel piece built by Zev circa 1989, over the course of several hours, took the recordings home, and after a period of each one mixing these sounds by themselves came up with what can be heard on this CD. Two distinctively different works/sections by both artists which form a multilayered and fascinating album. Design by Jonathan Coleclough. Edition of 600 copies in full colour 4 panel digisleeve." - Die Stadt.

Title: Wind Songs
Format: LP
Label: Siwa
Country: Japan
Price: $20.00
"Following a number of small run releases (and an appearance on a recent volume of PSF s Tokyo Flashback series) heres a vinyl only set of Sabu Orimos solo shakuhachi work. Recorded by Orimo in 2007-2008 and played on unlacquered natural bamboo flutes. With an approach to his instrument described as "Japanese old stone age style" (or the somewhat misleading term noise shakuhachi) Orimo might be said to be working on the fringes (of the fringes) of Japans broadly defined psychedelic scene. That said one could ask if Siwas motives here might not just be a case of trying to peddle the hated music behind a veil of blatant exoticism. Yes that does mean that after a number of rock/folk moves were dishing up some more exquisite improv. And you deserve it. Heavy weight vinyl only edition of 299 in five color handpulled screen printed sleeves." - Siwa.

"Here is what we would name some of the best, most important, unreleased at the time, historical and lost West coast psychedelic recordings ever. This legendary band includes none other that the famed Kenneth Anger soundtrack Creator Bobby Beausoleil as well as a very young David La Flamme, before starting his legendary band Its A Beautiful Day. As for the music, we are talking waaaaayyy out tunes here! The complete B-side features a single long tune which can best be described as Theatre of Eternal Music (the famed Pre-Velvet Underground La Monte Young/ John Cale Drone Band) meets Its A Beautiful Day. This is the missing link between the Drone avant-garde and the hippie scene symbolized by two people that couldnt be further apart. On the other side you will find Middle Eastern influenced hippie psychedelic jams that will remind you of bands like the Beat Of The Earth. No gimmicks, just a true slice of pure acid psychedelia. Old News #5 kicks off with "Pedal And Pedal," a refined beauty of a live set at Tokyos Super Deluxe, to only be followed by a massive blast from the past in the shape of the monstrous "Detain The Man To Whom," recorded in 1992. Record two delivers the genuine weirdness of studio session "Its Not His Room Anymore," backed by the ripping "Mother And Who," which is an alternate version of what would become ORourkes live set at the 2003 All Tomorrows Parties Festival in the UK. Format: LP
Label: From The Nursery

Price: $15.00
"From The Nursery is proud to announce for our very first release, a full length album by Brooklyn power duo, ORPHAN. ORPHAN lives up to the name: a spidery squall, scattershot by tortured vocals, abandoned and abused, organized and chaotic, joyous and outraged. Think early Melvins, think Karp; metallic black, acrid smoldering, napalm in the morning. Named Best Album of the Month in the August issue of Vice magazine. Limited to six hundred sixty six numbered copies, pressed on white vinyl, and featuring original sleeve art by Los Angeles painter David Ratcliff." - From The Nursery. First release on artist/writer Bob Nickas new label.

Title: Decapitated Lovers
Format: LP
Label: From The Nursery
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Decapitated Lovers is the second album by Brooklyn sheet metal duo, Orphan. Prominent among the albums nine tracks is a sprawling anthem, "Tarantula Downforce," which clocks in at over 8 1/2 minutes, and a cover of "Well Fed Fuck," originally recorded by Born Against. The album features cover art work by Gardar Eide Einarsson, and is limited to 500 numbered copies pressed on clear vinyl. While many bands trade the bratty racket of their debut for a more mature sound on their second effort, Orphan remain willful misfits, having mastered a kind of precise abandon — math rock by an idiot savant. Or savants. Orphan is Brendan Majewski on bass guitar and howling, strangled vocals, and Speck Brown on relentless, fight-club drums. In 2008, Other Music named Orphans debut “the most ferocious record of the summer.” Two years later, that damaged intensity continues to drive the cold dark heart of a band called Orphan. Concurrent with Decapitated Lovers, Black Tent Records has released a split 12-inch with Orphan and Baltimore band, Dope Body. All of Orphans tracks are exclusive to this release, including their cover of “Dragnalus,” which appeared on the first album by Unwound." - From The Nursery.

Title: Ladybird Labyrinth
Format: LP
Label: Ultra Eczema
Country: Belgium
Price: $28.00
"Orphan Fairytale is the solo moniker of Eva Van Deuren, member of the lady folk troupe Maskesmachine, who started blowing my mind 12 years ago as a street performance troupe in Antwerp. Besides my own ladyfriend, I dont think I know anyone better than Eva, and her boyfriend (Audiobot madman) Carlo Steegen. For some reason this makes it even more difficult to write a decent description for this record; we live in the same mansion, and I could write a lot of stories about doing the dishes together, or putting the garbage out. Orphan Fairytale is a dedication to Evas mom, who died when Eva was 14 years old. A melancholic soundtrack to the loss, and a way of dealing with it! A maze of ever-changing Casio trips dripping with childish ecstasy, a belly dancer oozing for endless adolescence playing with burned dolls in a Barbie house filled with pedals and looptapes! Melanchotronic folk reminiscent to some Moondog, the contemporary Finnish crew, Delia Derbyshire, and Asian pop. This LP comes in a full color collaged cover design by Dennis Tyfus with 2 inserts. These psychedelic songs were recorded at various times (from late 1960s & early 70s and beyond) and in various places (some were recorded in Istanbul where Wolfgang travelled in early 70s with his band Zippo Zetterlink, others were recorded in his home in Hamburg, still others were recorded with friends). Title: OV
Format: LP
Label: Epicene
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"DCs Orthrelm is Mick Barr (Crom-tech, Quix*o*tic, Octis and more) on guitar and Josh Blair (ABCS, WWIII, Supersystem) on drums. With three full-lengths under their belt, they join the Ipecac Recordings roster with OV, a one-track album that spans 45-minutes and multiple musical genres. Orthrelms first recordings avoided repetition of any kind, no choruses, no riff repeated. The early material distilled the over-the-top, raging parts of metal. Music moved at a blistering pace, never giving the listener a moment to relax, no resolutions and no familiarity. There were more notes than the listener could ever possibly absorb. With OV, Orthrelm embraces repetition.... sort of. While metal still undeniably influences Mick and Joshs music, this new recording equally evokes flavors of the Middle East and the early minimalism of Tony Conrad." Vinyl issue of the Ipecac CD.

Artist: OTTE, HANS
Title: orient:occident / minimum:maximum
Format: CD
Label: Pogus
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
minimum:maximum (1973): texts / sounds / pictures. An environment (simultaneous concert in Stockholm and Bremen) for two organists: Karl-Erik Welin and Gerd Zacher, keyboard instruments. orient:occident (1977): for two woodwind-players and tape: Ingo Goritzki, oboe; Hans-Wilhelm Goetzke, clarinet. "Perhaps best known for his piano work Book of Sounds these two works by German composer Hans Otte were composed in the 1970s. In that decade his aesthetic creed became increasingly clear: the search for the character and individuality of sound as such, which must be rediscovered and re-experienced independent of superimposed structures. The composer understands the dialogue with sounds as the discovery of their nature. (Ute Schalz-Laurenze). While Hans Otte was an enthusiastic, one might say visionary promoter of fellow composers, such as John Cage and David Tudor, whose impacts had registered to the general public long after their force reached the surface, he nevertheless remained deeply committed to his own music. Ottes writings, simple lines that say: words are just something added on; all great things laugh; when something is reminiscent of nothing; and, its really something - that voice that was once in the mouth, all direct us to his music, because: everything always happens: Now.  It is Ottes music that betrays his particularity of thought to what (is everything), how (it happens), and when (is now). Words are just something added on. Collectively, these aphorisms reflect an aesthetic that dispenses with words which may address themselves to an understanding of the world. Here, however, the world to be understood is indescribable. What is everything? When is now? How does it happen? The message is that words tell, music is. Listen. The titles of these works: orient:occident and minimum:maximum, suggest a relationship between seemingly disparate things to remind us of Ottes adage: It is the gardener who owns the garden."

"Following an initial LP and a few singles on other labels, we present two thrilling live sides documenting recent shows in Australia and New Zealand from Campbell Kneales new project post-Bircvhille Cat Motel. Kneales been a massive personal favorite here at Tape Drift since he first hit the scene in 1997. Reborn in this new guise, hes taking no prisoners and leaving audiences stunned by the majestic power of his noisy epics. Its hard to imagine Campbell topping the peaks of his vast BCM catalog, but these two tracks are a dream come true and suggest he may just have done it. Massively brutal sound here - perhaps one of his noisiest yet, but of course its got all the hidden melodic elements and attention to detail that youve come to know and love. Thats METALLIC... as in, has the surface qualities of metal not METAL... as in, has the surface qualities of Metallica... step back you fucking freaks. Although the broken bricks of BCM are still plain to see amid the burning wreck and ruin, Stillborn Plague Angels represents the first fully formed sentence in a new chapter of Campbell Kneales ongoing tome of star-spangled, psychedelic, noise-OM. Bark Haze (Thurston Moore & Gown duo) hit back with focused power-drone guitar duelling from the heart of the bong, smoking out into tunnel-visoned, crumbled-amp chunder. ""Staring at the screen - I can never get enough - Oh baby give me - Some of that stuff" New single taken from the recent series of pop videos created by Sam Meringue of Outer Limits Recordings (aka Matrix Metals, Flashback Repository, Yoga, 90210, The Sweethearts, Foxy Baby, Explorers, etc.). The A-side "I Need My T.V." is a Squeeze-meets-XTC vibed track that will appeal to fans of the Rangers l.p. on OESB as it sounds like a half-remembered lost classic from an 80s infomercial beamed onto a thrift-store VHS. "Burnin Through The Nite" is performed by OLRs The Sweethearts (a collaboration with Zak Mering of Greatest Hits/Raw Thrills) and rides its nocturnal groove all the way to #17 of DJ TONY FRANKELS NIGHT BURNER HIT CHART (circa 1972).  "I know i got a habit - and i aint gonna break it - a mans just gotta grab it yeah - and get a little crazy" - OESB.

Title: Akashic Record (Events: 1986-1990)
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Outer Space is a rapidly-evolving sound entity headed by John Elliott and joined by a constantly rotating cast of Midwestern U.S. electronic figures. Akashic Record sees the project grow in many different directions from the self-titled Arbor album created throughout 2008 and 2009 while retaining similar aesthetics of synthesizer experimentation and its esoteric relations. Recorded over the course of a year with close engineering assistance and compositional contributions from Andrew Veres in home and studio situations, a fresh array of fidelities and ideas previously unexplored have been mined and documented. New contributions from the elusive Philip Whiteside (of Wavehead) and Drew McDowall (past Coil/current Mirror Eye member) expand, stretch and challenge previous working methods. In the tradition of many other past releases, Jeff Hatfield (of Cleveland, Ohios Fragments) makes his essential appearance as well. Akashic Record sees the project move on from the stripped-down, primitive nature of the old into a more urgent, fractured and aggressive set of reality-based compositions. The work was created based on the events of others in mind; those doomed to circumstances beyond predictability or imagination. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin." -Spectrum Spools.

Price: $23.00
"John Elliot, operating under the moniker Outer Space IS one third of American nu-electronicists, Emeralds. Musically, this is an electronic smorgasbord of five trippy tropes that rip the inner light fantastic. II is the logical progression. It is an effort based on group format, and is an evolution from the debut Outer Space album. The central core of Elliott and Andrew Veres worked to arrange, record, and mix for a new direction and a new sound; headed down a path of cracked concrete and dissolving memory from the aether. Many different textures and composing methods are applied here, to make a more varied and spontaneous array of songs. Experiments ranging from looped, broken m-400, jagged rhythm beds, and modular synthesis. Severing the obsessions of death and anxiety, and creating a work based on "the current," and those involved in the process, II has a different feel with less claustrophobia and more breathable air. Imagine the sounds are a liquid, with different masses and changing color. II is first in a trilogy of sounds to be released in 2012. Its considered to be the second full-length effort by the project. Reality comes first here with a narrative of events that are real and happening right now. Close attention to detail reveals more than what is seen on the surface. The information is presented clearly; its up to the listener to use the intelligence provided for full comprehensive understanding. Guest appearances by: Andrew Veres, Philip J. Whiteside, Drew McDowall, Jeff Hatfield and Adam Miller. Produced with Mellotron M-400 and synthesizer. Sounds mastered by James Plotkin. The artwork features gentle, acidic, shimmering drawings by Graham Lambkin. Printed on a deluxe mirror board and pressed on 150 gram vinyl. Limited edition of 1,000 copies." -Blast First Petite.

"John Elliotts Outer Space project is a laboratory for electronic investigation. Acting as a continuance of the studies of mid 20th century electronic music composers such as Nik Pascal and Laurie Spiegel, Elliotts music is deeply indebted to the inner workings of the electric signal. Acting almost as a meditation, through the simple gesture of translation Elliotts process begins to reveal itself as electricity is converted into acoustic pressure and potential; the melody of physics. The six recordings on the album are each a microcosmic view into Elliotts practice; a keystone, illuminating his solo practice as well as his work as a member of Emeralds. Composed and recorded over the past three years without the use of digital synthesizers and arpeggiation; a record closely connected to a personal path, attempting to make sense, to understand ones journey. Mastered by Keith Fullerton Whitman; pressed in a second edition of 350 copies on black vinyl with full color gloss covers and black and white printed inner sleeves.." -Arbor

"Outer Spacist play a pummeling style of punk rock that sounds like Wayne County fronting Simply Saucer (or maybe weird period of early Alice Cooper). They have had a large cult of townies going giggly for years now. We approached them to do a single a long long time ago and for a while it seemed like a project that would never be realized, but lo and behold our day has come! The A-side has the band rockin heavy like the herd of Chocolate Watchband obsessives that they are, but the B-side is a steady trip that brings to the front the bizarre mind of their frontman DARTAGNON JONES KLETTING SALT, a man who truly escapes a singular adjective. Featuring members of Night of Pleasure and Day Creeper. Edition of 500." -Columbus Discount

2008 reissue. "Initially released privately by the group in 1993 (prior to Rinjis formation of his Pataphysique imprint, which would release the rest of the groups output in addition to many other interesting recordings), this LP was limited to just 200 copies and has long been sought-after by aficionados of the Japanese underground. Needless to say, until now, if one were to be lucky enough to find a copy of this LP, it would come with a somewhat prohibitive price tag; we offer it once again in the vinyl format with its original presentation for those of us for whom the depth of our fanaticism may not always equal that of our bank accounts. This LP shows the groups long-standing interest in the avant-garde and improvisation, featuring some amazing soundscapes which find their way through both the beautiful and the abrasive; they definitely explore some far-out territory, but there are also glimpses into the beautiful saturation of their more "rock" side on occasion, with some particularly expressionistic guitar work from Rinji within the context of a slow-burning psych blowout. This LP features the initial lineup of Rinji Fukuoka (guitar, voice), Iwao Yamazaki (drums), Kouji Nishino (bass) and Kunukunu as guest on VCS3 synthesizer during the track "Air." [...] This vinyl reissue is limited to 500 copies and it is presented with its original artwork which features a stark plain white jacket with Overhang Party simply printed on the front. " -Mutant.

Format: LP

Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"We here at Mad Monk have been fans of Adam Krineys many projects over the past few years and feel deeply honored to offer the vinyl debut of his long-running fucked-jazz unit Owl Xounds (formerly OWL SOUNDS). Taking their psychedelic rhyhmic core of drummer Kriney (LA OTRACINA/BLIZZARDS/RUST IONICS/CASTANETS/THE PLACES) and upright bassist Gene Janas (Screamin Jaw Hawkins/Bern Nixs SEDITION ENSEMBLE) to any reedsman up for the challenge, the boys explode it all with Austrian sax-ist Mario Rechtern, who has been invlolved with free-music since the late 60s playing in the REFORM ART UNIT (with Sunny Murray, Linda Sharrock, & Leena Conquest) and more recently as a guest in the Weasel Walter QUARTET/SEXTET/TRIO. Truly and honorably a post-ESP expression, it is much a post-SST expression. While the instrumentation and framework are a staple of the jazz/improvisaion tradition, the directions and velocities at which OWL XOUNDS exist are just as informed of the worlds of hardcore/punk and experimental noise. Citing the MISFITS as the most important band in his musical education, drummer/leader Kriney always felt the connection between the punk he grew up on and the free-jazz he became aware of later in life, the energy, the volume, the commitment, and most importantly the UNDENIABILITY of them both! And similarly the ostracism of the two is not to be ignored, being an outsider, the alienation from popular music, from popular culture, and from everyone around who just didnt get it were also of significance. It is with these considerations that this LP was named, for after all, from Albert Ayler to Thurston Moore to Glenn Danzig to Kawabata Makoto to Peter Brotzmann, they and we are all Teenagers From Mars, and we dont care! This LP is a split release with Krineys own Colour Sounds Recordings." - Mad Monk.

Title: Parabolic Rock - 1975-1982
Format: Double LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"From their wine-soused, Magic Band obsessed roots to their art-rock/new wave end some ten years later, OZZIE made some fantastic music. They built up substantial followings in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. They were a Mabuhay Gardens regular, sharing the bill with bands like the Weirdos, The Sleepers, VOM, and the Nuns. In Sacramento, they played with everyone from the Rutabaga Boogie Band and the Talking Heads to the Nerves and the Fleshtones. However like many bands of the time, their limited output (only three 7-inches during their lifetime) and difficulty fixing them to one musical subgenre led to their obscurity and ultimately them being forgotten. In the early 90s, S.S. stumbled upon Ozzies 1977 debut single, "Android Love," and flipped. He tracked down one of the bands main members, WILLIAM FULLER, and struck up a friendship with him. A decade later S.S. tosses Fuller the idea to reissue "Android Love" single with a different B side. Fuller digs out some reel to reel tapes, an act that starts a multi-year odyssey through the Ozzie archives. The proto-punk meets glam wildness what made "Android Love" (produced by PUBLIC NUISANCE/TWINKEYZ DAVID HOUSTON) such a great song was present in the tapes, but there was more: Massive doses of Blue Oyster Cult inspired hard rock brilliance, Roxy Music glam drama, Sparks-like art, Bomp! Records-worthy power pop, edgy new wave that recalls the Suburban Lawns, and mid-Seventies-style underground rock sounds that thrill any collector of private press obscurities, all with a Keith Moon/Jethro Tull inspired drummer. By the time, S.S. was done digging through the archives, hed assembled a solid double album worth of unreleased and live material, as well as alternative tracks and a few gems from Ozzies previously released stuff. Complete with a full history of the band, lots of photos, and archival images The Parabolic Rock: 1975 - 1982 is the definitive document of Sacramentos forgotten band, one worthy of mention with Sacto underground icons Public Nuisance, the Twinkeyz, and Tales of Terror." -S-S
